    We updated from 0.9.0.2 to 1.0.2 bechet. Tags worked fine before the update occured. We do have a custom theme installed and tags worked fine with it installed before the update.

    Just reverted to the default theme, and tags are not deleting.

    Can you give more detail into what you mean by changes modifying core bbpress files? please and thanks :)

    Thank you for helping me out so far, and providing tips on how to get better support. I apologize that I’m testy. I’ll be more patient. :)

    All right, i think it is the theme, peacemaker.

    my theory…

    see:

    https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/peacemaker-bbpress-theme-is-incomplete#post-66135

    and:

    why Regisration disabled. This is a demo site.?

    i think the original theme must have been posted onto the theme site before it was fully ready, therefore some of the files needed to be updated..

    hmmm..

    and the guy is no longer building the themes.

    any suggestions of what i can do, in lieu of these files.. i really like this theme for a base to work upon, css wise.

    I’m currently testing the bbpress plugin with the trac version. It’s going great however, i’ve noticed that the front page only displays the main forums but not the subforums/subsubforums. For example:

    MAIN FORUM 1

    MAIN FORUM 2 etc.

    Now within these forums I have subforums and subsubforums.

    MAINFORUM 1

    -Subforum

    MAINFORUM 2

    -Subforum

    –subsubforum 1

    –subsubforum 2

    What is the code, if any, to allow the front page to display all the forums/subforums/subsubforums?

    If there isn’t, i assume that I will have to wait until the trac version is updated, however any help would be most appreciated.

    Just to keep you people updated, this is the progress so far:

    1. Topic & Post Counts – This works fine, except for displaying post counts in forums, jjj said that he’s working on a patch which would be ready by Sunday.
    2. Voice Counts – Check #1330, has patch
    3. Rough Template – Done, except for front-end posting
    4. Admin area clean-up – This is pretty fine
    5. User’s Profiles, Posts, Favorites – Todo

    If you’re interested in development, then you can checkout a copy of the plugin, test out patches or create tickets for bugs/enhancements etc.

    OK so one of my “migration to 1.0 problems” has been resolved. However, the ability to have anonymous posts is still broken. Can the old plug-in be updated?

    Thanks mr_pelle!

    I know this is probably the dumbest question most of you have heard, but… how exactly does this work? Does this get copied into each of those files?

    What happens during an update… is this something we need to save and replace after things get updated?

    the deleted post will always causing missing numbers

    that is because in your template the number is based on post-position which is never updated

    the important part is that the count changes from 21 to 20

    the question is why when you run the direct recount within bbpress itself, it did not change that 81 to 80, but the manual query changes 21 to 20

    if you want those numbers to be continous on the page, you’d have to change your template but it doesn’t affect how bbpress works

    Can someone please give an update on whether or not bbpress as a plugin will be available for testing this week and let us know where we need to go for updates? I check http://bbpdevel.wordpress.com/ and http://bbdevel.wordpress.com/, but neither has been updated in a while.

    From a user prespective

    @kevinjohngallagher and _CK_

    i agree with you two, specially the parts where you say bbpress.org users and mods are updated on bbpress stuff through other sites, relying on wordpress dashboard to spread the news sounds like a last minute attempt to minimize damages, but hey…nobody is perfect)

    A lot of bbpress sucess is due to pluggin developers and i think its “out of order” to post bbpress news on buddypress blog, there are moderators here that are pluggin developers that feel “betrayed and hopless” because they spend countless hours and days and nobody tells them nothing… how would you feel JJJ if it was you? i’m aware nobody is perfect but you did talk about bbpress there and even linked to bbpress.org so why not say something here first? “i feel” your pain mods…

    about the name change… i aalso agree it should be called bbpress 2.0 but i think that alone wont stop all the confusion around different versions… i agree with you (_CK_) but newcomers will still be confused wether its 2.0 or 1.2 because the real confusion its not the name but the several different versions.

    All in all i think the next version is what a lot of users wanted (pluggin integration, no more backpress etc), thing is a lot of the sucess is due to pluggin authors that spent countless hours making sure their pluggins/themes work across several versions, now they have (or not) to start over.

    2 last questions:

    can we install the next version on its own? where can we download the alpha/beta of it? where is it? i would like to test even if its not fully functional like we do for wordpress, i can only find reference to the pluggin version at: http://svn.automattic.com/bbpress/branches/plugin/

    not enough communication around… Good luck and thanks to everyone that works on bbpress wether coding/theming/pluggins or here maintaining the forum.

    I’ve hit the same snag. I tried logging out of my WordPress admin and now I can’t login to the BBpress install or WordPress install.

    http://www.somethingbeautifulpodcast.com

    http://www.somethingbeautifulpodcast.com/forums

    When I click the login button on both WordPress and BBPress it simply sits on the same page or reloads the page. It’s as if the Login buttons are broken.

    I’ve tried changing the force_ssl_admin to true as mentioned here:

    https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/admin-link-doesnt-take-me-to-dashboard

    function force_ssl_admin($force = ‘true’) {

    I’ve updated all my auth keys in both WP config and BP config as mentioned here:

    https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/cannot-access-bb-admin

    (https://api.wordpress.org/secret-key/1.1/salt/)

    And I’ve added define( ‘COOKIEPATH’, ‘/’ ); to my WP and BP config files as well.

    Still no luck.

    Any help would be appreciated. If nothing else I may start searching for the uninstall thread.

    The revision is r2535 but the text in the admin panel comes from bb-includes/functions.bb-meta.php around line 299. That text needs to be changed manually every time you check in code. Looks like they forgot to change it the past couple times.

    I just updated it, so if you check out a new copy, that will be the only file changed, you will have revision 2536, and it will work exactly as 2535 did when it said 2530 in the admin.

    #56992

    Yah, I know that. I eventually used the WordPress custom avatar plugin and updated my bbpress theme to call that function from WordPress side of things.

    Hey,

    Having a problem with the Media Temple re-direct exploit fix.. Had to change all the prefix’s in my database, to correct the issue… I can’t login to my forum now, under any account… User names have dissapeared from posts. I’m still able to login via WordPress though. I updated bb-config.php with all new correct info, still not working… any ideas?

    I’ve now asked about these in two other bbPress forums (subsections of WP forums)

    I’d not waste my time there. The WP.org forums are really great for WordPress stuff (if you now the right terminology), but quite useless for bbPress.

    Post Notification

    Since I started using RSS (which most email clients and phone now handle nicely), I’ve never had a need for this.

    It’s a fairly simple one to code though (with pitfalls), if there was a big enough need for it.

    Subscribe To Topic

    Yeah, that won’t work, and isn’t being worked on.

    Matt annouced in December that it was going to be part of 1.1, but then ran away when people disagreed with him (can you believe a moderator actually asked him a question – sacrilege) and started telling people not to use bbpress while he was making KeyNote speeches at WordCamps.

    It should be working in the trunk version of 1.1, which will be the last version of bbPress to be released.

    After The Deadline

    I typed “after the deadline bbpress” into google and this came up:

    http://gaut.am/2010/06/after-the-deadline-v1-point-7-released/

    Whether it will work with the plugin by a different author i’ve no idea. In honesty, IE7’s the only browser I have that doesn’t have a spell check built in natively, and its got it via an addon; so i’ve never really seen the need for this. Clearly others have though.

    Someone said that part of the reason they haven’t been updated is because the authors are waiting for the new ‘plugin’ version of bbPress to be released

    Sadly the WordPress (small p dangit) plugin will eradacate all code/plugins/themes/support from the current version. Nothing will be compatible.

    A large part of why things aren’t updated is because bbPress looked like it was dying. The decision to rewrite a large chunk of code and go with BackPress made the majority of plugins not work overnight, and the initial thrust of 1.0 made it not worthwhile to upgrade them.

    If we assumed they worked once, and all they’re not doing now is the notification part, you’d think that wouldn’t be very difficult to fix.

    Awesome, i look forward to you coding them and releasing them. Thanks for offering Joe :)

    Greets –

    Well, I’ve now asked about these in two other bbPress forums (subsections of WP forums) and have gotten nowhere fast, so I thought I’d run them through the official forum again:

    •Live Comment Preview — I could get it to put the ‘Preview’ button on the page, but otherwise it’s dead in its tracks. IE reported an “error on page” when used.

    •Post Notification — Notifies Admin when someone posts in the forum. Dead.

    •Subscribe To Topic — Puts the little checkbox on the page but doesn’t do the notification part.

    •After The Deadline — Spell-checker, doesn’t work with BB Editor.

    Someone said that part of the reason they haven’t been updated is because the authors are waiting for the new ‘plugin’ version of bbPress to be released. That’s great, except it doesn’t do any good in the meantime — for what could be a fairly simple tweak of the original code. Both “Post Notification” and “Subscribe To Topic” look like they’d fall under that heading. If we assumed they worked once, and all they’re not doing now is the notification part, you’d think that wouldn’t be very difficult to fix.

    Someone else suggested I downgrade to bbPress v0.9, but (1) my heavily-tweaked theme wouldn’t load and (2) neither Zaerl Editor or BB Editor worked, so I canned the idea.

    Any suggestions for replacements or fixes for the above?

    Thanks,

    Joe

    How did you add it Otto? What revision was the code checked in to? How did the code get updated here so quickly?

    Thanks

    The plugin caused readability problems. A fix was never provided. I followed the advice to stop using it. Has it been updated?

    You couldn’t be as kind as to tell us WHICH PLUGIN you’re talking about could you?

    Chris (and Ashfame),

    Thanks for your thorough and prompt attempt to assist me/us.

    Just so you know, there is no “0php’” line of code I entered.

    Here is line 65 code EXACTLY as entered in bb-config.php, on different attempts. Only difference between the two is “/..” Nothing has been altered…I copied these lines directly from the bb-config.php file adding/changing/hiding nothing. As-In, they are direct cut and pastes.

    # 1. This line (when entered) reveals BLANK forum page: require_once(dirname(__FILE__) . ‘/../wp-load.php’);

    # 2. This line (when entered) reveals ERROR forum page: require_once(dirname(__FILE__) . ‘/wp-load.php’);

    # 3. Here are the errors from attempt # 2 above:

    Warning: require_once(/home/content/08/123456/html/website/forum/wp-load.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /home/content/08/123456/html/website/forum/bb-config.php on line 65

    Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required ‘/home/content/123456/html/website/forum/wp-load.php’ (include_path=’.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php’) in /home/content/08/123456/html/website/forum/bb-config.php on line 65

    # 4. This is how the command line(s) appears exactly as entered inside the bb-config.php file. I copied it from the bb-config.php file without changing anything:

    */

    define( ‘BB_LANG’, ” );

    require_once(dirname(__FILE__) . ‘/../wp-load.php’);

    ?>

    # 5. Random Thoughts:

    a. Important: I don’t/didn’t want to combine bbPress and WordPress locations/databases so I have bbPress and WordPress on separate databases (same server). That said, I notice in the WordPress Integration “settings” (within bbPress) The “User Database table prefix” is set to “wp_”. The bbPress Help line/instructions below the field entry reads, “If your bbPress and WordPress sites share the same database, then this is the same value as $table_prefix in your WordPress wp-config.php file. It is usually wp_.”

    I was instructed to enter “wp_” but am beginning to wonder if that is incorrect since the bbPress and WordPress are on separate databases. If incorrect, there are no suggestions of what line/text to enter in that field (“bb_”?). Just sharing.

    b. Silly thought?: WordPress 3.0.1 came out 24 hours before my attempt to Deep Integrate, and was installed, wondering if something has changed in the WordPress 3.0.1 .php files that makes this a “new” issue; therefore requiring an updated deep integration code line. Not blaming WordPress…just sharing the experience.

    Thanks a ton!

    I guess all your plugins are tagged https://bbpress.org/plugins/tags/_ck_

    right?

    And I believe even your updated plugins support 0.9 ?

    Unfortunately the plugin section is still broken and does not import tags so the _ck_ tag is no longer complete there (update: someone appears to have fixed it in the past 24 hours)

    For now this is the only way to find them all:

    http://bbshowcase.org/forums/topic/_ck_-plugin-catalog-index

    Virtually 100% my plugins will support 0.9 (except ones specifically made to “fix” 1.x)

    <cite>Mark McWilliams</cite>

    Not with WordPres 3.0 anyway, 1 install, multiple sites! :)

    Well, multiple BLOGS, I am not sure if they can get multiple forums going on the first version, we’ll see. But I am sure it’s a goal of Matt’s so they can use it on WordPress.com

    @_ck_ awesome plugin you have there

    I guess all your plugins are tagged https://bbpress.org/plugins/tags/_ck_
