    95000 topics
    750000 replies
    25000 users

When I run the script several times I think all posts are recalculated but not really sure.

I have som other issues as well.
Imported users do not get a site role or forum role.
    Users post count is zero.
Users do not show up in the memberslist (front end) and are not searchable. But I can access user profiles and the number of topics, replies ans mentions seems to be ok.

Post quotes are not always converted the right way and sometimes even bbcode are parsed resulting in very small text.

I have tried the import on both an newer VPS with php 7 and a older one with php 5.4.
    Vbulletin version 4.2.2

Not able to search for users after importing users and posts from Vbulletin 4.2 to bbpress 2.6RC3. I can go to the profile if I know the name.

Imported users have not been mapped to any forum roles or site roles.

Latest WP version, latest php version, 2016 Theme, latest bbPress version, site under construction.

I installed bbPress, followed the setup and create a forum following directions. When I click on View page or copy/paste url for the forum I get a blank page.

I deactivate and delete bbPress, clean cache and reinstall bbPress. Do everything according to directons and get a blank page.

When I click on the ‘All Forums’ link I get a blank screen even after creating forums. All forums set to no parent and order is set to 0.

I’ve installed and deactivated and cleared cache and mysql and reinstalled bbpress 7 times and keep getting a blank page no matter which url I try to display the forum. What’s that saying about people repeating the same mistake over and over and over??

I’ve run vBulletin for years, and phpBB, but no matter what I keep getting a blank forum screen with bbPress.

    Hey there,

I would like to replace an old vBulletin-Board with bbPress. Yet the polling options are heavily used by users that I don’t want to bother with “goto wp-poll first, create a poll, copy this snippet in your post and adjust the poll-id”. My search so far did not reveal a better solution.
    Is there one?
Is there another wp-plugin that can forum and easy poll functionality?

    Kind regards,
    Nefarius

I imported my vbulletin forum into BB press.

I am having some issues with it slowing down my wordpress.

    I ran all the repairs except this one just keeps timing out;
“Recalculate the position of each reply”

It’s a pretty big forum and I have a good amount of closed/hidding forums.

Having recently migrated from vbulletin where i had category sub-forums with threads and posts inside. What is my best bet given that bbpress doesn’t appear to support that feature?

    Hi,

I’ve been trying for some time to import what I consider to be a very small forum but I can’t seem to get the your import function to progress past what I believe to be the early stages of the process and would love any help you can give me. I’ve tried many different import settings from 50 to 35000 rows and 0.1 to 5 seconds pause. I’ve also tired with and without importing users and purging all existing vbulletin tags. But I can never get past the forum hierachy stage. It just sits there forever churning. Anyway the database is on localhost. My host has lots of cpu and a pair of ssds. The forum has 25000 threads and 210000 posts.

    Thanks!

    Hugh

I am trying to import vbulletin 5 content to bbpress.

    1.Copied database to local location.
    2.Removed prefix
    3.Copied vbulletin5 and converter files.

But it is stuck at the below location.

Calculating forum hierarchy (20 – 29) —> “Not moving from here”
    Calculating forum hierarchy (10 – 19)
    Calculating forum hierarchy (0 – 9)
    Converting forums (20 – 29)
    Converting forums (10 – 19)
    Converting forums (0 – 9)
    No passwords to clearStarting Conversion

I tried to stop and start, removed prefix. Still no luck.

I just need only topics with posts, I can import other stuff manually.

Can you guys please help me with this issue?

@consultjoseph I think this is down to the id not being available.

We are trying various dfifferent ways of doign this now with different url structures. Once we have a solution we will release it as part of the Coffeeblack BBpress extended plugin.

the default code still works for search engine friendly urls but there are a load of other bits i am working on too. like auto setup of urls to match default vbulletin, default kunena, default phpbb and so on. so you can just choose the format from the admin side and it will just work.

Also looking at a sensible way to auto redirect all old urls to the new ones. Which is a harder propsective change but nonetheless it should be done so this solution can work for everyone.

has there been any progress in getting something to import from VBulleting 5.2 or above. They don’t have tables in VB 5 anymore and I am trying to import to BBPress as I am sick of VBulletin and how hard they are to work with. I moved to the cloud about 18 months ago over there and have regretted it almost immediately. I have 57K topics and 300K posts as well as 7K users (not all active anymore). I just need the best way to import the data to BBPress. The VBulletin importer in the software gives me many of the same errors mentioned on the forums here in several threads. I need this done yesterday.. LOL… I have moved my forums from the VBCloud and am putting up my home page. I have all data backed up. I have not tried the articles or anything else, just the forum posts. I couldn’t wait and have to pay another month to stay on VB as my contract was up with them.

Alright, I probably didn’t do this in the best way, but I figured out how to “fork” your github code and create a separate branch but it’s under my username (I didn’t know if it’s okay to just go creating branches in someone else’s repository, so I just set up in my own):

    https://github.com/themichaelglenn/bbpress-vbulletin-permalink/tree/no-f-s-or-id-s-in-forums

Again I need to make clear that I do not know what I’m doing – but whatever I did is working on my localhost and on my test site (which site will only be up long enough to test everything on an actual server, so no link to that site, sorry)

I don’t know if I would still get the topic URLs forum/forum-name/ID-topic-name if I kept removing more code, to get it down to where we were only rewriting the topic URLs? I’d like to try that but I don’t know how much more I can remove before the plugin just stops working altogether.

    @themichaelglenn @readmenow
    You are welcome.

No one actually made any contributions in the end.

the f- part of the plugin was in order to replicate exactly my old vbulletin urls. So it can be removed if not required for your install.

We are just putting a few final touches to our bigger plugin for bbpress / buddypress which includes all the various bits of development we have done in order to make bbpress work more like vbulletin. should be launching in the next few weeks. One of the main aprts of this is i want a configurable permalink structure part in there so things can be added / removed from the rewrite rules to provide variations on the hierarchy.

One thing is the way it deals with forums and subforums.

for your query about removing the number before the forum name and the structure bit

The URL for the child forum is now

    forum/square-enix/final-fantasy-vii

and I want it to be

    forum/final-fantasy-vii

The interesting thing is that the topic “Cloud’s Limit Break” still shows as

    forum/final-fantasy-vii/143-cloud-s-limit-break

which is the URL structure that I want, when someone clicks on a topic, so I’m happy with that.

But I can’t seem to figure out how to remove the parent or top level forum from the forum URL.

You Cannot currently remove the identifying number from the last url part.

if it is a forum or a topic or a reply you must have the ID of the final item in the last url part.
the reason for this is because of the way BBpress saves these as custom post types the id is required to determine what post type it is. forum topic or reply.
without the ID you cannot govern what is displayed. There is no other (correct me if i am wrong @netweb ) for the system to know if /new is a forum a reply or a topic without the id being passed in.

We can certainly build it so the Id is after the name rather than before it. i will sort that out so it works.

    So you can have

    forum/subforum/ID-topic-name
    or
    forum/ID-topic-name
    or
    forum/subforum/topic-name-ID

for topics to be shown. basically the pieces preceding the final topic item are not really relevant its just what you want in there. you can have as much or as little hierarchy as you want. So long as the ID is in the last url part.

    however you cannot have

forum/subforum-name/ because we must have an ID

    so it would always be

    forum/ID-sub-forum-name/ or forum/subforum-name-ID/

IF you check you can actually remove mostly anything before the final url part which contains the ID. discussion on that in github where i explain why this is not an SEO problem. its how most things work in WP.

If you want to post your current forum structures here i will create permalink optioins to replicate these. or rewrites to deal with moving from them to the new structure.

I have the Kunena one from above

    forum/forumName/topicID-topicName

This is interesting, as I am running vb 3.6+ and I am looking to import into BBpress. Looking to go simple instead of all the bloat of vbulletin, even though I added a lot the old forum in design and ‘hacks’

    Hello,

I’m looking for a forum software for my site, but none on the market seems to be satisfying!

It seems forum software has peaked with vBulletin 3.6, 12 or more years ago! How come nothing seems to beat a piece of software that is 12 years old?! Many of the top forums that use vBulletin 3.6 don’t want to upgrade, simply because there isn’t anything better, anywhere.
(here is an example of typical vB 3.6 forum: http://paganforum.de)

My question/suggestion: Why can’t BBPress (or anyone else for that matter) match the design and functionalities and design of vBulletin of 12 years ago?

BBPress should do whatever it takes to reach that level, then we will be ready to pay!! There is a huge need out for a modern forum software! Plenty of people are stuck with their vB 3.6, simply because there isn’t anything better…

But from all the demos I have seen, the current BBPress interface looks and feels more like a Helpdesk support system than an actual forum…

Could someone please direct me to a version/skin/addon of BBPress that looks most similar to a vB 3.6 forum? Thank you!

I am using bbpress 2.5.9 and WP 4.5.3 for a club website where the forums are only available to logged in Participants.

On vBulletin forums I’m a member of, there’s a Member List available to any logged in Member which shows user name, contact info, number of posts, etc. Is it possible to have something like that using bbPress? If so, how?

    Thank you

I have a rather large vbulletin database – just under 2M posts in 160k threads. I am looking for a solution with better photo posting options than vb. I’ve been reading the threads here and I’m not sure if this is a good fit. If I can get it imported, is it just too big to run on bbPress without being slow as a snail?

@thebrandonallen, that would be great news.

I have a vBulletin project waiting for some details to be available in bbPress for more than one year…

I really would like to integrate the whole ‘ecosystem’ on my site based on WordPress but bbPress is still light years away of what some other (even open source) forum scripts let us do.

Hope 2.6 would be “the” giant leap for bbPress.

    Hi you guys,

I’m in the process of importing a rather large vBulletin board. It has around 50’000 topics and more than 3 million posts.

And I’ve got this one question: does bbPress write out or somehowe save topics, which it couldn’t import? So I can get a glimpse at the problem at hand why a certain vBulletin thread has not been imported?

A little more background: I’ve done a few test imports, and so far bbPress is doing a terrific job. To keep import time manageable, I modified the vBulletin converter from bbPress to skip replies, which I import with some more complex SQL queries after the bbPress importer has created users and topics.

Nearly all of my 20’000 users and 50’000 topics get imported, but some vBulletin threads do not shop up with the meta_key named _bbp_old_topic_id. I really tried to spot a pattern there, but had no luck. So I’m hoping there’s a way to gather some more information directly from the bbPress import.

    I’m running bbPress 2.5.9 and WordPress 4.5.2

@scorpnetwork, I too am planning on converting a vbulletin 3.8 forum into bbPress, so I’m looking for the most information that I can get to help me on doing the best moves.

Are you using bbPress right now? Did the migration went well?

    Thank you.

@fmckinnon, I just visited your forum and it seems that you went back to vbulletin.

bbPress did not do the trick on running your community forums?

I too am planning on converting a vbulletin 3.8 forum into bbPress, but really need to get other folks opinions before taking such move.

    Thanks.
