I have a WP site , and I installed bbPress and BuddyPress in 2012. It worked great. Then the project got cold, and I now want to start it up again.

However, to keep WP healthy I have updated it version for version. Now it is 4.6.1, and I have bbPress 2.5.11 and BuddyPress 2.7.2

I can not get access to bbPress’ settings.

I can access wp-admin/options-general.php?page=bb-forums-setup and then can click “cofigure bbPress”, but the popup loads a blank page.

I remember that the first time I set it up I had access to a lot of settings, but now I can not access anything.

Where do I go from here? What is the best way to get access again?

    Hi,

    I’m trying to re-do a site.
Now the new site is using the latest version of WordPress (4.6.1) and bbPress also the latest version (2.5.10)
The previous site is using WordPress 4.5 version with the latest version of bbPress.

I exported my old forum, topics and replies and imported those data into the new site.
When I click on the forum, I got this messages, below:
This forum contains 6 topics and 55 replies, and was last updated by xxx 1 month, 2 weeks ago.
Oh bother! No topics were found here!

I also tried to disable all the plugin, switched to default themes and used this little plugin – http://www.rewweb.co.uk/bbpress-wp4-fix/. But it doesn’t work at all.

Is this plugin compatible with the latest version of WordPress?
Does anyone have the same issue? Any solution for this issue?
Can share with me how to solve this issue?

    Regards,
    CL

I have this same concern. I have to upgrade to PhP 5.5 (and frankly, 5.6 is out of support by Jan 01, 2017, so this is an old issue). Can bbPress be updated to work under PhP 5.5, or at least not throw an error?

    Hi,

In my website, content of all the topics got invisible.

For example, at https://edugorilla.com/forums/forum/exam-preparation-experience/ it shows both

-> This forum contains 3 topics, and was last updated by Rohit Manglik 1 week, 6 days ago.
-> Oh bother! No topics were found here!

I am not sure how to debug it further. Any leads please?

    I repost some questions

    1) is there a way to add a sort of “code” somewhere, to have the QUOTE in bbpress posts?

    2) If not, is there a plugin that somebody knows? Obviously, if possible, I would prefer some code to avoid another plugin

    3) Anybody knows if the function “quote” will be updated in a future version of bbpress? I think I read it some years ago, but it didn’t still arrive.

    Thank you for helping

    Hi,
I’ve been struggling with a serious import problem since may 2016.
Issue #1 My BBpress forums will not migrate properly with conventional WordPress import/export built in tool.
Issue #2 When I use WP ALL Import (pro bundle) to get a CSV I can actually work with, and manually update the USER ID table and Forum ID and Parent ID, the import works (Forums and Topics are matched up properly) but tool>BBpress>recaculate will completely break the forum, I need to be able to recalculate once in a while… not being able to do this is a problem. And even to get the imports working I have to manually change IDs in the CSVs in order for the imports to match content up properly. And even when using vlookup in Excel, it is painstakingly difficult to manually create a dual reference column where column one is the old ID (for old website forum) and column two is the new ID (for new website forum). This is why I don’t have a fixed CSV for replies yet. I’ve thousands of them.

Authors of WP ALL Import have been of no substantial help. Please any help because I’ve been paying for my old server and new server for months now and it’s gotten very expensive.

Data columns including in Forum Export is:
    id Title Content Post Type Date Order Parent Slug Author Status _bbp_status _bbp_old_forum_id _bbp_forum_parent_id _bbp_forum_subforum_count _bbp_topic_count_hidden _vc_post_settings _bbp_status _yoast_wpseo_title _bbp_forum_id _bbp_last_topic_id _bbp_last_reply_id _bbp_last_active_id _bbp_last_active_time _bbp_topic_count _bbp_total_topic_count _bbp_reply_count _bbp_total_reply_count

Data columns included in Topic Export is:
    "id Title Content Date Post Type Permalink _bbp_old_topic_id _bbp_reply_count _bbp_total_reply_count _bbp_author_ip _bbp_old_sticky_status _bbp_topic_id _bbp_forum_id _bbp_last_reply_id _bbp_last_active_id _bbp_last_active_time _bbp_voice_count _vc_post_settings vc_teaser Status Author Slug Order Parent Comment Status"

Data columns included in Replies Export is:
id Content Date Post Type Permalink Status Author Slug Parent Order Comment Status Ping Status _bbp_post_id _bbp_author_ip _vc_post_settings _bbp_activity_id _bbp_topic_id _bbp_forum_id

For Forum’s I updated Author IDs.
For Topic’s I updated Author IDs, Parent, and _bbp_forum_id

After a successful import for these two post types,
bbpress recalculate will completely break the posts’ hierarchy.

I’ve yet to find a way to get replies to import successfully due to the shear number of replies and _bbp_topic_id’s I’d have to update the new IDs for.

    Hi,

is there any package available with only the changed/updated files? I want to upgrade my customized 2.5.9 BBpress to 2.5.10 but instead of having to re-apply all the customisations I did, I want only to upload the changed files.

    Thanks in advance

    2. I just created a topic to post under a forum. Under my keyholder account, I am able to see the topic when I click on it but when I try clicking on it as a user, it doesnt show up. It just tells me there is “0 replies, has 1 post, and last updated by me” and the topic is not there.

Follow the solutions posted in this topic below. It sounds like the issue is similar.

    https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/first-post-not-showing-3/#post-177978

There are several links in the user profile area but they all seem to direct me to the user activities only…I cannot link to any of the content posted by other users through those links. (Same with the tool bar at the top of the page and all of the drop down menus).

Are you saying you cannot see for example forum topics created in their BuddyPress profile?? Be a little more specific on this please.

I have updated WordPress but still have the same problem. When I change my admin roles I can briefly see the BBpress options in the wp menu. But after one click they disappear form the menu…

Seems like a bug to me or a malfunction with an other plugin?

I read through this forum because I am experiencing similar issues…(I am a keyholder). I am using both Buddypress and bbpress. I do not have programming knowledge or experience, I do not understand codex or php, I’m just looking for someone to hopefully assist me with a simple solution to these issues, so that when people sign up as users, their interactions are seamless and they are able to quickly find the information they are looking for.

    1. When logged in as a user, I am not able to access forums without using the URL to the page. I used the “user roles and capabilities” plugin as recommended above, to change the user settings in the back end so I could view “private” posts and that sort of worked but I still have to use the URL to find the forum page. I have also run the tools for both Buddypress and bbpress. There are several links in the user profile area but they all seem to direct me to the user activities only…I cannot link to any of the content posted by other users through those links. (Same with the tool bar at the top of the page and all of the drop down menus).

Are you using bbPress 2.5.10 or 2.6 alpha from https://bbpress.org/download?

If you’re not using 2.6 alpha that “could” be the issue, it’s updated for the latest phpBB 3.1.x branches, the 2.5.x only supports phpBB 3.0.x branches

(Plus 2.6 alpha has lots of extra improvements)

Just updated to 4.6.1 recently and it seems to work fine on my dev site.

    @pauldamas

If your this was a fresh bbPress installation I would try a re-installation.

We have some users in the forum mention similar issues while having also installed BuddyPress. Do you have BuddyPress installed as well.

You may also have to make sure you have the plugin activated. I have seen users get confused at how the new way WordPress installs plugins with a single button and no screen change. Some people forget to wait after the loading icon goes, then the button turns into an activate button. Some users forget that and do not activate the plugin.

I’m working on my third install of bbpress and still having the same problem I have already deleted 2 previous copies of WordPress and bbpress simply because I don’t seem to be able to getthem to work.

It is looking like I have made some progress though. Where as I was simply getting an empty page I am at least getting a list of forums and even a notice i.e.

This topic contains 0 replies, has 1 voice, and was last updated by ronc0011 4 minutes ago.

    Followed by …

Reply To: My first working topic ever

Which is of course the title of my first reply.

The only thing in any of this is my username and the 4 minutes ago part. I’m not seeing anything that looks even sort of like a forum only a couple of notices that tell me there are forums and topics but forget attempting to actually see those topics or replies.

this is what I get when I navigate to my forums.
“This forum contains 3 topics and 1 reply, and was last updated by ronc0011 12 seconds ago.”
    Immediately followed by…
“Oh bother! No topics were found here!”
I’m just not understanding what is happening here. I have in fact created new topics and replies to the new forum but the items below are the only hint that they exist at all. The only things clickable in those lines are the username and the “12 seconds ago” bits. None of which shows you anything that could pass for the content I created when I made the topics or replies.

Problem solved! I have contacted Zippy courses, it was the theme translation. The theme overrides bbpress plugin translations so it must be translated itself.

I have updated the theme translation files and it works.

    Thanks a lot!!

    Thanks for your help!

I have deleted .po/.mo files so the plugin is untranslated:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/24hykm4gvh1zyc8/before.png?dl=0

Then, I have updated translations automatically through wordpress and this is the result:

    https://www.dropbox.com/s/eua75i925izq41z/after.png?dl=0

The strings I indicated before remain untranslated, as well as the form strings in the screenshot. You can see some strings are translated an some are not. I know the language file contains all the translations but somehow the plugin insn’t finding them all.

    I have no ideas…

    Hi there,

I’m slowly putting together a bbPress forum and have been researching the best ways to quote replies. Many of the threads I’ve seen on the topic are old, some pointing to outdated plugins; others point to trying custom development work. In general, it’s left me wondering how to go about enabling quoted replies.

Is anyone in the same boat? Do any of the mods have any wisdom to share? I’d prefer an updated plugin -type solution, but I’ve also done a bit of web dev and a fair bit of Python, so I’m willing to put in the work and code a solution if need be–I just don’t know where to start.

Thanks in advance for your help,

Regarding password. I’m talking about a single password protected page on my site. Then I use this plugin

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/ft-password-protect-children-pages/

to then password protect child page under that one password protected page. Hasn’t been updated in forever, but despite the warning, it still works fine.

Now, the forums don’t use true child pages, so that plugin shouldn’t work – it didn’t. Tried anyway for the hell of it. So that led me to ask about whether bbpress can be put behind a general password like that – couldn’t find anything about password in the settings.

As for the style plugin, I’ll check that out. Tkx.

Your theme developers will need to be a little more specific than “bbPress code has some problems”.

If bbPress’ code didn’t change and you updated your theme and now bbPress doesn’t work, then this is not a bPress issue, it is a issue with your theme and what changed in the latest theme update.

I suggest you contact the theme developers again, link them here to this post of mine, if there is a bbPress issue, I’m happy to work with the theme author to fix bbPress if that is the case.

    bbPress Version: 2.5.10
    Wordpress Version: 4.5.3

    Hello,

The plugin was installed and activated, worked fine until I updated my theme. The plugin is there in the plugins list activated. However, I cannot locate its settings and “forums” to add new forums. All current forums are gone. So, basically when people click on “forums” on my site, it states “there are no forums”. I have even tried deactivating, reinstalling and reactivating but to no avail. How do I fix this issue? I am hoping someone can help me as my site is live and the forums page is not working. I have even contacted the theme developer but before they can help me i am required to pay for support which i am not so sure whether they can help with the problem.

    Thank you and much appreciate.

    Hi,

I’m having some issues between bbpress and Ultimate Member plugin.
Ultimate Member has a feature that lets us add custom permissions on the menu’s links, allowing X user role to see Y links on the menu. It always works well, except when I’m on the forums root (smilang.com/forums), where all logged-in users see the website menu as group X, no matter their current role. If they go on a specific forum or topic, the issue goes away and the menu gets back to normal.

See the images for an example:

On the forums root (Not OK)
    On forums root

    Elsewhere on the forums (OK)
Elsewhere on the forums (menu is normal)

I’ve also contacted Ultimate Member’s support team about this, I just did a plugin and theme conflict test, it doesn’t seem like it’s my theme nor any other plugins than UM and bbpress. I’m waiting for their answer now but I was wondering if you could find anything that would cause this.

I’m using bbpress 2.6-alpha, I just updated in hopes it would fix things but it doesn’t change anything. WordPress 4.5.3
    Thanks!

    Hi,

I’m using bbPress 2.6-alpha on one site and I was wandering what was a recommended way of keeping that installation up to date with the latest 2.6 code? WP doesn’t report any updates but I guess important updates are made on code and they end up in that ZIP on Download page, right?
