Hi As i have installed bbpress theme in my site but i am not able to send replies to forum topics in dashboard->setting ->permalinks if i select as post name.If i change the permalinks to plain then i am able to send replies to forum topics.But i need to select as postname in permalinks.Can you please tell me the issue what is that why it showing like that.Thanks in advance.

I’ve spent a long time looking through fixes, and nothing has worked for me so far. Currently I am trying to set up a forum/website. I am using the Twenty Fifteen theme with bbPress, except I am currently on a child theme so I can make changes safely.

The site portion looks fine, but the forum looks awkward:

I would like to stretch out the forum side of this page so the posts take up more space. I don’t want to be scrolling constantly, especially with much larger posts. I think the best way to do this is removing the sidebar from the forum section. After the sidebar is gone, however, I don’t just want the right section to be centered and be the same size. I want it to take up the whole page. I understand this makes accessibility across the site a bit more difficult, but I can figure something out later.

How can I convert (move) individual HTML webpages in bulk into bbpress?

What I have is just the 1000s of html pages which consist of question and answers. Now how can I move then into bbpress.

Based on my experience.. my advice to big forums is to use opcache + apply 1925.4.diff patch and be careful with long threads and too many topics under the same group/section.

Even with the patch… I have some trouble with long threads using too much cpu… so I’m always closing threads because of that.

I also got in trouble with high cpu load when we have too many topics under the same forum… because of this problem.. from time to time I create new forums and make the old one a “museum”.

My CPU consumption usually varies from 8 to 30. 40-50 on peak days.
Without doing this “hacks” my website can’t survive… because the cpu consumption goes up to 500 until everything crashes.

I have a simple forum with only 1 forum and a couple of topics so far. I set the forum to Private to make it & contents only visible to logged in users. When I load the page, the title shows as “Private: Private: Forum Name”. Is there a way to drop the redundant “Private:”? New user to bbPress, just installed 2.5.10 on WP 4.5.3.

At first glance, everything appears fine, although the number in the Posts column seems to be a product of adding the number of topics to the number of replies in a given forum. I don’t mind this.
Freshness shows zero, but that’s not a big deal either bc A) I can fix the freshness (but it results in losing posts and replies in the forums. B) Once new forum posts happen, it will repopulate.

now here’s the main issue
Upon clicking on a forum, it says:

This forum contains 8 topics and 15 replies.

Viewing 4 topics – 1 through 4 (of 4 total)

So the top area states how many topics there are accurately but then only 4 are actually displayed.
This problem is consistent across the other forums. (sometimes only 3 or 2 are displayed when more are stated above)

Any idea what that is about? It’s the main issue.

note: i did a repair Recalculate last activity in each topic and forum
and then the bottom forum dropped to 0 and 0.
Any of the forum repairs that I use that involve Topics creates problems in the number of topics and replies and doesn’t fix anything.

HELP is much appreciated.

https://wordpress.org/support currently runs bbPress 1.x, the plan to upgrade to 2.x is expected to be finished by the end of August.

w.org has ~8 million users, ~2 million topics, and ~7 million posts, we don’t expect any issues here, bbPress 2.6 includes lots of performance tweaks and as @siparker mentioned lots of importer improvements also.

It is possible, but would require some custom code, it’s doable, but more coding than just a couple of snippets here to help you out.

An alternative way to what you’ve asked though is kind of shipping with bbPress 2.6. We’ve added support for “per forum moderators”, so you could create a “private” forum and give a single user moderator access to that forum, likewise another forum for another user, and then your site moderators could be moderators of all those “user forums”. This would be dependant upon how many users you have as this would be a manual setup.

Thanks for taking time out to reply and pass along insight. I think I’ll likely hold off a bit longer as I’m weary about whether this is ready for prime time on a really big forum (6.5m comments, 150k+ users). Honestly I don’t need all the bells and whistles so long as the links and pages are SEO friendly and there are robust moderation tools. Rest is just simple comment posting with some options for emoji’s, links, and photo / video embeds and uploads. Oh, and import tools!

I would truly love to migrate over to BBPress. The lack of a performance optimized forum option is a huge void in the WordPress platform IMO. I believe once they get this sorted out and stable, that along with WooCommerce, it makes WordPress the only real player out there for the most part.

Look forward to see this project mature, but can’t say it hasn’t been difficult remaining patient for the last two years as I wait for this to evolve to a point that it’s usable for us.

I recently moved VB to bbpress for my forum.
i pruned a lot before moving.
9k users now.
20k topics
115k replies

I managed the import ok. the key to this is pateiance to a certain degree. the 2.6 alpha i am running worked better for the import than 2.5

However. if moving from VB your in for a bit of a shock. as it does not work the same way. so please do double check everythign before you move. one of my other posts has a plugin to create VB like urls as i came from vbseo across to bbpress which has a very different hierarchy.
however it does put your forum into wordpress which opens up amny other options. which is why i did it.

If you need any help let me know and i will do what i can to advise what i ahve done / used to make bbpress more like vb.

Two major things to not do
Do not leave the default notifications enabled when you move the forum. mine sent every notification ever out again. somethign like 250k emails got sent every time i did the import.
And on top of that i had several test versions so by the time i realised i had well and truly pissed a lot of people off.
Secondly the basic spam filters bbpress uses are different to how vb works and will possibly block some users. I know new moderation stuff is due in the near future but its not in yet so the spam options available are a bit difficult to work with.

English is not my forte. I will try to write you understand what I mean and what I want and something advise.

We’re going to be a big project. We establish mmporg page in which guild will have its pages, posts and also their forum and all in one website.

BbPress will do together with Budypress.

I set up the group in Buda press and there a separate forum, but can not add multi layer one major forum in the forum. It has to do administration on the bulletin board in WordPress.

Assign rights administrators with limited options, but the problem is that it can delete all topics and I do not want it. It may read topics.

I want to set that could delete your own topics and dirty.

I adjusted the law in the bbPress code, such as false and true, may well lubricated.

I just want that each guild had their own separate forum and in which their users and manage this forum only. The others can not do.

Wondering if there’s been any progress with this? Sort of bummed that version 2.6 isn’t out even though it’s mentioned as a solution in this thread I started 2+ years ago.

Been struggling with WordPress x Xenforo integration and have literally bought every commercial bridge addon / plugin and have spent thousands of dollars hiring sys admins and developers to try and make it work. Best case scenario is it works until the next update and then it’s borked again. Most are one way bridges so they force logins / registrations through Xenforo, which also sucks.

Honestly BBPress is the last hope as far as the exhaustive reserach I’ve done on the subject, but it’s dead on arrival for anyone running a high traffic forum. Almost tempted to drop WordPress, but nothing else with forum integration comes close.

Anyone have any type of news beyond try the alpha version and report issues?

I’m having an issue with the multi-line text area. I am able to add the box without issue but when I sign in as a member and fill out the field, in this case it’s called “description” and hit save it sends me to a blank page and does not save what was done. Any thoughts on how to fix this issue.

It is specifically not to add a item into a theme folder as i want the plugin to be totally standalone. with no “Extra” edits required.

So adding the location can that work to add a location within the plugin to view templates etc.

so the template lcoation would be /wp-content/plugins/myplugin/templates/replacementbbpresstemplate.php
