Thanks John for reply,
Yesterday I saw there is an available update for both bbpress and Buddypress. I updated both of them and still can’t see anything in my activity stream.
The wiret part is, I’ve done 10 clean installations with both single and multisite wordpress since yesterday. In Windows and Linux. Everything is working except activity stream still not showing from bbpress.
With new BP1.5 that released yesterday there is no doubt in order to installing these to plugins. First BP and after that we should instal bbpress from the BP settings.
Am I right? No changes any where? any tricks?
If the integration between bbPress and BuddyPress isn’t working, it might be because BuddyPress is in maintenance mode and needs to be updated. In that instance, bbPress turns itself off since BuddyPress may not be reliable loaded.
Thanks for confirming. I’d be happy to add it to the docs somewhere, but it doesn’t seem to be set up for contributions at the moment. Hopefully that’ll eventually come along with the other site improvements bound to happen when bbpress.org is updated to bbPress 2.
I’ve updated all my language files to the latest stable versions. You can download them on my page and use them freely wherever you want.
At the moment there are language files available for the following versions of bbPress:
1.0.2 and 1.0.3 (old versions) formal and informal
1.1 (current standalone version of bbPress, released today) formal
2.0 (the brand new WordPress plugin of bbPress, released today) formal
Please report any errors, missing or faulty translations! Thanks!

Hello,
I have just updated my test site from buddypress 1.3 to 1.5
and installed new bbpress 2.0 plugin and it looks/ works good, with our custom theme
thanks!
we have over 10k topics in buddy press group forums,
anyone successfully managed to move all group forum topics/posts to standalone bbpress forums?
is there any converted available (or any chance someone is working on it)?
I have a bbpress (classic) install with WP deep integration, and figured I’d get a head start on formatting my test install for the eventual release of the plug in. So far I’ve got almost everything styled nicely just using CSS, but I’m stuck on removing a few things that seem to clutter up the presentation of the forum.
1. Does anyone know how to remove the “This forum contains X topics and X replies, and was last updated…” from the main Forum and topic pages?
2. How about how to remove the modification history section and the post # display from posts.
3. Remove the extraneous breadcrumbing, right now it’s Site>Forums>Forum as the default ‘Forum” page. Seems like one level too deep for default bbpress forum starting point. SInce my site will only have 1 forum, is there a way to clean up the sloppiness or at least hide the useless ‘Forums’ link in the breadcrumb?
The forum software has been through several years of development. I’ve seen earlier versions of it used on high(er) traffic websites and it seems to do quite well.
The issue I’m running into is the lack of current version plugins for basic features, such as reply with quotes which seems to have last been updated like 4 years ago. I’m sure with BB2.0 and the integration between WP/BP/BB we should start to see some real life in this community. Vbulletin is great as a standalone board, but does not tie in well with wordpress.
Rule of thumb; Be sure to do lots of trial and error to make sure your plugins are working without issue before you go live on a production site.
When editing a forum topic from the WordPress backend it is updated with a new timestamp (as if it was just published).
This is annoying when trying to make a bunch of SEO stuff (in this case with Yoasts SEO plugin) with existing post titles and excerpts. Are there any reason why this happens, and is there an easy way to disable it?
#1 are you running the old 1x vs. of bbpress or the new plugin?
(I would suggest the plugin for sure as it’s the most updated)
#2 if you are not then here is the page to find the download to the plugin
https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/branches/plugin
*on the bottom of the page is the download link. Keep in mind that this is the most recent vs. and it changes almost daily until everything is finalized.
You simply click that link, save the file to your computer, and then go to your wp installation. In there you will use ftp to go into your wp-content/plugins/ folder.
#3 From there create a folder called bbpress inside the plugins directory.
#4 Upload the plugin you downloaded to your plugins folder
(browse the bbpress download and go into the folders until you see bbp-admin, bbp-includes, etc folders. You upload those into the bbpress folder that you created in your plugins folder)
Structure should look like
wp-content
–plugins
—-bbpress
bbp-admin
bbp-includes
etc….
#5 From there simply activate the plugin.
There are other steps needed to get the forums working properly in wp and your theme, but the above instructions will at least get you going.
I’m having the same problem…I installed bbPress about two months ago and it worked right out of the box, then I got going on other things and just came back to work on it again and I can’t get the forums to display. If I go to the forum page, it has the title; but before, there was a listing of forums and I could navigate through to the topics. I’ve tried using the shortcodes and they work fine, but I’d like to get things working through the standard hierarchy (e.g. forums, topics, etc.).
I’ve cleared the cache, flushed the permalinks, and changed the name of all the slugs (they’re currently changed back to the default names), uninstalled, then reinstalled the plugin (but didn’t delete settings from the database). Also, I know I’ve updated the plugin at least once since first installing it.
Some sample pages:
http://powerofmoms.com/forums/ (should show listing of all forums, but just get blank page)
http://powerofmoms.com/forums/forum/general-discussion/ (should show topics for this particular forum. Shows description text, but no listing of topics)
I haven’t made any changes at all to the template yet…just wanting to get things working again. Any suggestions?
That did not work. I updated the bbpress/bbpress.php file to clear the cache.
After messing around with the bbpress settings, and then restoring it back to what I had it at originally.
I am not getting this displayed on the pages that weren’t loading all the way.
Catchable fatal error: Object of class WP_Error could not be converted to string in /hermes/bosweb26c/b2552/ipg.cwilson/DOMAIN.com/wp-content/themes/techblog/functions.php on line 41
Does this work if you have bbpress plugin and Buddypress working? I have to say it’s a fantastic plugin especially the Forum Ranks which is what I’m after.
Edit: Everything is working as it should be. For some reason it was not updating correctly. The only thing that is not working is that I already have a number of posts, i.e. 10 plus. However it does not display that information within the post count. Only displays any new posts that i have created since installing this plugin. It is only when I go into existing posts and re-save them then it counts.
Edit 2: All is well, however only normal users do not have the rank displayed. I have set them to subscriber, member and even forum participant to no avail. I will keep this updated should I find a solution
Hi; just checked the translation of bbPress 2 over at http://translate.wordpress.org/projects/bbpress/plugin/ and it’s seemingly lacking these two strings:
“This category contains %1$s and %2$s, and was last updated by %3$s %4$s ago.”
“This category contains %1$s and %2$s.”
I apologize. The topic can be considered partially solved. I had upgraded to 2 rc4, but I had not updated form-topic.php and form-reply.php of theme.
Now the tags-topic are not deleted.
Remains the problem update reply from dashboard (no topic attribute)
I updated from bbpress 2.0 beta-2 to the recent version of bbpress, and I was excited to find the forum topics and replies shown in the buddypress activity stream. First I want to thank you for developing this really nice feature.
The thing is that when I click “view” button in the activity stream, the link is not redirected to the original forum topic or reply, and it’s just redirected to this kind of URL. rootURL/activity/p/26442/
Is this a known bug or am I the only one having this problem? Thanks in advance for your reply!
Not understanding this….. (bbpress 2.0 rc4)
1) I installed the plugin.
2) I don’t have twenty ten installed and I got the error “bbPress (Twenty Ten) The parent theme is missing. Please install the “twentyten” parent theme.” This should be updated to use the latest version of WordPress theme 2011
3) Installed twenty 10
4) returned to themes.
5)bbpress theme is not showing its preview .png file most themes show.
6) Activating bbpress theme gives me:
Your active theme does not include bbPress template files. Your forums are using the default styling included with bbPress.
The active theme is broken. Reverting to the default theme.
-> NOTHING was touched or changed. All I did was install bbpress plugin and install the twenty ten theme.
So I thought, what the hell lets create a forum and go to it:
1) forums
2) new forums
3) new: Test
4) Publish
5) view ->
This is somewhat embarrassing, isn’t it?
It seems we can’t find what you’re looking for. Perhaps searching, or one of the links below, can help.
What am I doing wrong? Why is this not working at all?
This is a new one. The topic tags are updated on each reply with the contents of the input box. This is by design but will only result in empty tags if you reply to a topic with the tags input empty, so that forum members can self-police them. They are replaced as easily as they are deleted.
One current drawback is if you trash or spam a topic, it could leave empty tags behind. I’d maybe open a ticket for it, and I can look into it further. Right now I can’t reproduce the bug, but that doesnt mean it isn’t one.
I have the same issue, though at least when the spam is deleted from the Replies admin page the “last author” is updated to a valid user.
Is there already a bug filed for this somewhere? I’d like to contribute a fix if I’m able to.
I have searched for hours and I can’t make sense of how to customize a forum when using bbpress that was installed as a WP plug in.
I want to do two things:
1) get rid of the part that says “This forum contains 2 topics and 3 replies, and was last updated by John John 8 hours ago.”
2) I want to make the forum page wider than the default page width for my WordPress theme.
This seems like these should be very simple customization, but I just can’t figure out how to do it. Can someone point me to where I could learn step by step how to do this?
thanks,
Tom
@enderandrew – If it helps at all, all I did was leave the default setup in place, having installed the bbpress 2.0 plugin. Then include a new custom css file (in the directory of my wordpress theme) and link to this beneath the call to the wp_head() function in the wordpress theme (e.g. in my header.php) – to ensure the custom css file overrides the css included by bbpress.
I simply them overrode any of the styles that I wanted to change from the default. This is a fairly old-school approach to re-branding, but is perhaps one of the least invasive. This wont allow you to change very much of the layout but will allow you to change some of the styling to more closely match your brand and will give you a certain amount of protection against change as the plugin gets updated.
Hope that helps
Hi Jared,
I have also been beating my head against the wall on this, and was thrilled to find your post above.
May I ask what the bug is in Genesis?
What do you think are the odds core will be updated?
I’ll release a plugin that should prevent this issue from happening for others who are looking to run bbPress with Genesis.
Any chance you have the plugin done?
I am working on a pro-bono site for a not-for-profit, and trying to use BuddyPress 1.5 and bbpress 2.0. Been going ok, other than this issue.
Thanks!
No worries. Have you updated to RC 4 yet? Does this issue still happen then?
It sounds like either there is a slug collision, or you’re using a custom theme that is missing the template file it’s trying to include.
I think I finally figured this whole bbpress thing out somewhat…finally!
I just need a little help from the community here to add one last thing.
My forum can be viewed here:
http://www.theurbantwist.com/community
Nevermind the “Company Man Comic” banner that’s there now…it’s just a place holder til I get a banner designed strictly for this forum.
I’m used the bbpress plugin and the default bbp-twentyten theme that came with it…nothing fancy. I just updated some of the css code that would apply to make some of the tables fit.
My main question is how could I go about adding a “Recent Topics” list on the front page of forum as seen on this site?
Open Forums
It looks they’re using the same default theme that I am.
Just curious as to how I would list Recent Topics beneath my forum list on the front page. Like what theme files would I have to edit and such.
Appreciate the help.
Thanks
Sorry for that. Link updated.
