    Hi Jared,

I have also been beating my head against the wall on this, and was thrilled to find your post above.

May I ask what the bug is in Genesis?

What do you think are the odds core will be updated?

I’ll release a plugin that should prevent this issue from happening for others who are looking to run bbPress with Genesis.

Any chance you have the plugin done? :)

I am working on a pro-bono site for a not-for-profit, and trying to use BuddyPress 1.5 and bbpress 2.0. Been going ok, other than this issue.

    Thanks!

No worries. Have you updated to RC 4 yet? Does this issue still happen then?

It sounds like either there is a slug collision, or you’re using a custom theme that is missing the template file it’s trying to include.

I think I finally figured this whole bbpress thing out somewhat…finally!

I just need a little help from the community here to add one last thing.

My forum can be viewed here:

    http://www.theurbantwist.com/community

Nevermind the “Company Man Comic” banner that’s there now…it’s just a place holder til I get a banner designed strictly for this forum.

I’m used the bbpress plugin and the default bbp-twentyten theme that came with it…nothing fancy. I just updated some of the css code that would apply to make some of the tables fit.

My main question is how could I go about adding a “Recent Topics” list on the front page of forum as seen on this site?

    Open Forums

It looks they’re using the same default theme that I am.

Just curious as to how I would list Recent Topics beneath my forum list on the front page. Like what theme files would I have to edit and such.

    Appreciate the help.

    Thanks

My website caches all spam after updating bbpress plugin for wordpress(I am not talking about independent bbpress).

I had to click spam on posts like you say before I updated, but now it works briliant.

In fact, if you see my posts, two years ago, I sought it, at the time that the integration with WordPress was difficult:

    https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/sub-subforum-change-css

Now bbPress has evolved a lot, because it has become plugin an easily integrated with the WordPress and BuddyPress.

So I’m sure that soon this will be improved organization of categories.

    @anointed:

    https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/sub-sub-forums#post-11762

Joining the contents of these two topics that I passed the link, you can get what they want (as you yourself said, tks), but let’s be honest…

It is not easy for those who are only user

    (not even a beginning programmer)

In other forums it is ready. Simply create categories and forums by default that the organization already does this separation. It should also be standard in bbPress.

If you do not want the separation of categories, will not do it, but it uses different categories is because you want to be separated for better organization.

So it is ideal to be implemented this improvement, and as you mentioned, many other features (as plugins).

And preferably, as plugins for WordPress, which can be installed and automatically updated directly by the panel without having to use FTP, as are separate plugins bbPress.

    Suggestion:

is that all plugins from bbPress and BuddyPress, stay in the WordPress directory, thus it will be much easier to use them.

Just updated it to 0.6.0. This has a lot of things done. bbPress 2 RC 3 put the extra action hooks in the post form area, so the toolbar is using those now for placement of the bar. No more delete-dupes using JS :D

I updated today as well and currently sitting with a 404 error. I’ve tried what folgerj suggested updating and deactivating but I am still with the 404. If anyone has any other ideas, I would very much appreciate it!

I just updated the bbPress forum to Version 2.0-rc-3 (I’m using the bbPress plugin for WordPress). Before the update to the new version my forum (a private forum) could be found at

    http://www.buddhistinsightnetwork.org/forums/forum/bin-discussion-forum/

now, when i go there it says there is nothing there (I confirmed the link is the forum link within WordPress). Before the new version, this was the exact link for the forum.

Does anybody know what is going on here?

    Thanks

I’ve just updated to the latest version of the plugin and I’m not getting the error I mentioned before.

Nonetheless, when I update my user profile (from the forum profile), everything seems to be working well except for when I update de Yahoo! and Gtalk info which in both cases are not being saved or updated.

The current RC2 works pretty well. Although news of the RC updates hasn’t been posted in the devblog, or anywhere else as far as I know, I do expect the plugin to go gold sometime soon.

I don’t think that there will be another RC, but then again, I wouldn’t be too surprised if things take a bit longer, this being bbPress and all…

    @croata08

You don’t need Twenty Ten if you don’t use the bbPress child theme. Then you could remove all the files from the themes.

As updating works now, during the process all the changed files would get updated. So if there were to be made changes to the theme, they would get copied to your server.

But why would you? If you want to make a theme from scratch, you could use the child theme as a base with examples of how to write it.

I am using BbPress plugin forum for WordPress.

When I create new topic it has a field for tags, which I enter with commas between normally.

THE THING IS THE TAGS DON’T DISPLAY ANYWHERE ON FORUM.

I think before I updated, the tags appeared on top of the page when reading discussion, but now there are’n there, anywhere.

DID I MESS THE CODE, or are tags not displayed anymore in the new versions of bbpress WordPress plugin?

I haven’t seen anything that would allow them to register with their facebook account… I assume there may be a way to do this but using this to by pass the registration process is what I was thinking that way they could comment or reply with out becoming a registered user.

I don’t know if something like this is even practical.. I just assume all of you are more experienced with this so I look to learn what is working for you.

I’m not a code hacker (editing the PHP is a mystery to me.. I can do it as long as some says what the insertion point is… (has to be dummy proof for me)…

I updated to RD2 2.0 and I haven’t seen any glitches but I don’t have very many users and I’m going to try to sticky and super sticky topic post and see what happens…

Is there a PDF online that will tell me what these thing should do versus what I see them actually do?

if its not getting updates, it doesn’t mean it need updates.

Fair enough. But what about the security issues I’ve been reading about? The tool hasn’t been updated in years, and some of the security issues seem to be more recent than the latest update.

I’ve already found the private messaging plugin in the respository, however, I also found out that this plugin is no longer updated and that it might pose a security issue. Therefore my question, what other options are out there to add private messaging to a new bbpress forum?

BTW, I’ve tried the bbpress plugin for wordpress and am having issues with it, so I’d rather stick to a separate board. Otherwise I could integrate private messaging into my WP blog.

Ok, just updated ro RC2. It’s a great plugin, and it helps me a lot. There is one issue however. The feeds do not work as expected.

Also, I cannot change my password here. I had another account here and lost my password. I requested a password change email and got a message back that I am not allowed to change it. I posted on facebook and did not get a reply to that topic. I made a new account now, but this should really be fixed.

So now to the feeds. I can use feeds by adding a /feed to the end of the URLS, but this does not work as expected and not as it did in the Version 1:

When subscribing to the forum feed, I would expect that I should get a feed of the posts in the forum. Instead I get a feed of the Subforums in the forum. See here:

    http://minecraft.uncovery.net/forums/ is the URL

http://minecraft.uncovery.net/forums/feed shows me the subforums in the order of the latest entry there. I want to see all feeds however, and had that in the last version. Clicking on the link provided does not bring me to the latest post, but to the subforum, where I then have to search again for the latest post.

Now let’s say I want to subscribe to a subforum only:

    http://minecraft.uncovery.net/forums/forum/help/ is the url

http://minecraft.uncovery.net/forums/forum/help/feed does not show me the lower subforums or the topics. Its simply empty.

So let’s go to a forum that has no subforums, but posts in it:

    http://minecraft.uncovery.net/forums/forum/help/access-user-rights-etc/ is the url

    http://minecraft.uncovery.net/forums/forum/help/access-user-rights-etc/feed/ is empty too!

So as a last resort, I want to subscribe to one single topic:

    http://minecraft.uncovery.net/forums/topic/conection-issues/ is the url

http://minecraft.uncovery.net/forums/topic/conection-issues/feed/ works normally. The others do not however.

As an admin I need to know about the new topics posted and AFAIK the feeds are the best and intended way to do so. Please please fix this!

Updated. I pulled the references to those files, so no more errors. In future iterations of the theme, we’ll look into having better profile areas – these are just graduated versions of the TwentyTen author page.

I discovered this problem today and it’s so frustrating I don’t know what causes it:

On most topics I can only see the first post per page. I can turn the page, but only the first one shows up on that particular page. Nothing under the post shows up, not even the html tags are put out. The HTML just ends with ‘[less_than]li id=”post-1218″ class=”alt”[greater_than][less_than]div id=”position-‘.

I later discovered that I can only see a finished, normally rendered page if only one post shows up (e.g. the items per page is set to 15 and there are 16 posts on the topic and I’m on the last page).

The reply section only shows up if the above condition is met and I’m on the last page. After I send my post, it makes the number of posts on that page 2, so again, I can only see the first one and nothing below it.

I was using version 1.0.2 with the Ajaxed Quote 1.2, Allow Images 0.9, bbPM 1.0.1, Private Forums 5.0 and reCAPTCHA bbPress 0.2 plugins when I discovered the problem.

Shortly after that I updated to bbPress 1.0.3 thinking that a file might got corrupted, but the problem hasn’t been solved.

The strange thing is that I didn’t update or change anything in bbPress since yesterday (when it was working correctly).

I have no control for the phpversion, this is on a server I bought access to, so this might have got updated. phpinfo says: version 5.2.17-0.dotdeb.0

I was searching in the database too for a potential malitious comment (because I have had spam users despite using captcha) but I haven’t found any. Plus the nature of the problem doesn’t hint to that. (I can see all posts if I set the items per page to 1).

    MySQL version: 5.1.49-3

BTW, everything in the admin area and besides this problem seems to be working just fine.

    Please help me.

    Thanks,

    Peter

Thing about that is you wouldn`t be taking advantage of the lightweight nature of comments, which is ideal for simple reactions but not so much extended discussions. Actually I really like the term ‘reactions’, as that’s where I draw the line between a comment and a conversation. I’ve updated my mockup to reflect that. Here’s the updated image:

    https://i.imgur.com/y09EW.png

You’d also be confined to a single thread of discussion, which is the key limitation this plugin would resolve. Look at the linked TED page and you’ll see pretty much the exact setup I’m looking for.

Another reason to use comments is that if you’re using a P2-like theme you can enable near real-time comments on your article. This is only possible with WP comments, not posts.

Oh, and then there’s the many types of plugins that facilitate unregistered commenting. Besides anonymous comments, there are plugins to enable posting with a Facebook/Twitter/Google account without actually registering to the site, but just to avoid spam.

Finally, I actually think this “comment conversion” approach would be less of a hack than using bbPress in place of comments. It’s a one way conversion, from one standard data format to another. Removing the plugin only removes the conversion method; what’s left is perfectly standard data, ready for export etc.

In the end it comes down to what you need for your website. Check out “use bbPress in place of wordpress comments” if you want to continue discussing the setup you have in mind.

    Hi,

You may find the French translation for bbpress-2.0-beta-3b in this article about installing bbPress in French. It will be updated as soon as possible with newer version.

Thanks for this great plugin, it works already quite nicely although it is beta.

    Regards, François.
