In reply to: Forum roles issue

    second question is

you say ‘And every time it is updated (once a day) the roles I have assigned manually are lost …’ – what roles are you assigning, and how are you doing this eg ‘I go onto the dashboard and do this and then do that and then give them the xx role in then yy area’

    Good Morning,

I am managing a company intranet with bbPress, and I have a problem with user roles.

I need that among all the users there is only one Keymaster (me) that manages the entire forum and that the rest are only participants.

The problem is that if I assign users the Participant role, they cannot create topics or reply to created topics. In fact, with the role of Moderator they cannot do it either. Only the Keymaster role allows you to do that, but it also gives permissions that I don’t want to give to all users, like deleting topics.

Another problem I run into is that my user database is connected to my company’s Active Directory. And every time it is updated (once a day) the roles I have assigned manually are lost …

Could someone help me with these problems?

    Thank you very much.

I have been spending way too much time on trying to change the text editor for bbPress forums. Members should not be expected to know how to use html (which most don’t), and many will post text from other websites into a text box. I don’t understand, after so many updates to the bbPress core and so many questions in your Support forum about it, that this issue has not been resolved.

I added code recommended on the bbPress site in the child theme functions.php for my site, added TinyMCE Advanced, and searched for a checkbox in Forums Settings to enable a fancy editor. That checkbox is not in the list of options on my site. And all I see in the text editor for topic replies is the html buttons. Could someone please help us with fixing this issue. The plugin recommendations on this support forum are from many years ago, and those recommended plugins are out of date, no longer being updated, or cause problems for sites when installed.

I would really appreciate assistance. Thanks.

    Good day

I have one problem, I lost not all but some of my replies in the forum.

The problem started when I installed WpFence it then broke my site and in the front end the replies were not showing. At the time, I could not login to the site’s dashboard, the site being https/www.labourlawadvice.co.za, with a Worpress version of 5.3.2, Bbypress Version 2.6.4 and Divi theme.

I then went to cPanel and disabled WpFence was able to login back in but still the replies where not showing n the front end. By then I discovered that even though I can now login but I can’t update the plugins. I then went to the cPanel again loaded updated Divi theme and BbPress buy then, the site was giving me an error of memory which all settings were correct.

I the was forced to use the only backup of the site left, which was saved before migration using WPvivd.

Now, some replies are missing and need help to recover them, if there is a solution to such problem.

    Thank you

Alright, I pasted it in to functions.php, and it seems to be working so far. Thanks so much for sharing! I’ll keep an eye on it over the coming days and hope it keeps working.

Will I need to remove this code if/when bbPress is updated to incorporate this fix?

    Hi there,

We seem to be getting some discrepancies around the panels which include the following for example:

‘This forum has 3 topics, and was last updated 3 weeks, 5 days ago by Name Surname.’
    Viewing 4 topics – 1 through 4 (of 4 total)

Sadly on our set-up, these stats don’t seem to be matching up to the actual real edits, ie it states 3 topics, when there are 4, which you can see by the second line the system displays, it says ‘Viewing 4 topics’ yet above it says there are only 3 topics?

Is this standard, and maybe we are just misunderstanding what it’s counting? If anyone has any advise that would be so much appreciated :).

    We are using:

    – WordPress v: WordPress 5.3.2
    – bbPress v: Version 2.6.4
    – Sadly can’t include a link as it’s behind a login restricted area but we can liaise if anyone can help and facilitate this access

    Thanks ever so much,
    Tonya

caching software stores website pages. Certain events cause these pages to refresh.

so if x is posting and it’s not happening, and then y on the same site does an action, it may refresh the cache and then the post by x may get updated.

Loads of possibilities, just trying to help understand what might be causing 🙂

    Hi,

I faced the same problem after update to bbPress 2.6.4.
It’s very important to show ‘last updated’ correctly, because it’s needed to control the forum.

I’m getting incorrect “last updated” date/time stamps on my forums:

    ShareSoc Forums Information and Discussion

Here is a screenshot highlighting the issue:

If I use the “Recalculate last activity in each topic and forum” tool, then it fixes it, but obviously I don’t want to have to do this every time – I just want it to work without running a tool. Can I run this tool as a cronjob?

    Good day!

I have updated the bbpress plugin on the site and the automatic marking of notifications as read, once the link is clicked, seems gone. I have reverted back to the previous version to make this work.

Can you kindly advise for a solution to make it work for the new version of the plugin? I would be a hassle to click on the read link to clear up notifications. By the way, it only happens when logged in to Safari.

    Please advise. Thank you!

    Hi Robin,

Thanks for the feedback, however the plugin you have suggested has not been updated in 5 years. I would refrain from using it as old plugins could hide security vulnerabilities and from what I can see it is also not tested to work with the latest WP updates.

Do you have any other suggestions?

    Thanks

suggest if you haven’t updated or changed software that you contact your host provider

    otherwise

it could be a theme or plugin issue

    Themes

As a test switch to a default theme such as twentyfifteen, and see if this fixes.

    Plugins

If that doesn’t work, also deactivate all plugins apart from bbpress and see if this fixes. if it does, re-enable one at a time to see which is causing the error.

    Then come back

If you edit a bbpress topic or reply the corresponding BuddyPress activity entry is not updated. The bug is in includes/extend/buddypress/activity.php lines 507, 645.

Even if revisions are enabled !post_type_supports( bbp_get_reply_post_type(), ‘revisions’ ) is true.

Hi, I closed a topic and realized I didn’t like the background color once closed. I then went to change the color in the Closed Topic Content option of the Topic/Reply Display section. I changed the color, updated settings, and saw it didn’t change.

The post was stickied, so I unstickied it, openened it, hit save settings again, cleared cache, and the new color I chose still isn’t showing up, the old one is.

Any ideas on what to try here?

    it exists in both.

Then original exists in the bbpress folder, and is updated by bbpress updates

The amended sits in your child theme folder

    Good afternoon!
I’m reaching out because I’ve checked the settings many times and updated WordPress version and BBpress plugin to the latest version as well and I can’t figure out why this functonalites stopped working. I’m not a programmer I do handle html, css and some basic php.

I’m having an issue with BBpress not nesting replies anymore and also as an admin I’ve stop receiving the notify emails everytime somebody post a new comment.
I’ve updated WordPress to version 5.3.2, BBpress to version 2.6.3 and BBpress Notify (No Spam) to version 2.8.

I’ve cheked the php version my host company is using and is 7.2.7 (beyond what the plugins require).

Could anyone point me to a solution or reason why is this happening? I’ve also emptied my cache.
Sorry I don’t post a link to my website is a private learning group.

    Thank you so much! Luciana

    Hello everyone.

I have bbpress as my forum plugin for my website and I’ve been wanting to implement BBCode for BBPress. I currently have the BBCode Deluxe plugin installed on my site which seemed to have great reviews and is updated. However I had an issue getting it to work. See my question I posted on Reddit – maybe one of you would be able to answer it.

    reddit question

But I was thinking if BBCode Deluxe is not a good plugin for this purpose or there is a better / simpler one, then maybe someone will know about it here.

Thank you in advance for everything!

    BBPress Version 2.6.3

I have just updated BBPress and now my forum toolbar buttons are really hard to read.
How do I change the button text colour from white to black?

(On the text tab, the visual tab is fine)

I use several methods (which still don’t prevent spam accounts) but ..

    1. I have a Google reCaptcha on the Registration Page.
    2. I have a plugin that lets you add a security question to the Registration page.
    3. I have a plugin that sends all new user registrations to “Unapproved”. I have to approve or delete.
    4. I have updated the users view to display the security answers. As a result, I can immediately see if it is a bogus account and immediately delete it.

At the moment it is working Ok for me to do it this way.

Hello all, this is probably a strange request but what the hell, I will give it a shot…

My site is not live yet, it is at https://jimandms.com/ running the latest version of BuddyPress, bbPress and WordPress. I keep them all updated…

Anyway, I have added some posts to the forum. Just general housekeeping stuff mostly. And the complete post shows in my feed on my homepage as well as in the forum. Ideally, I would not want anything to show on the home screen when a forum post is made. I want to keep the two separate to a certain extent.

Or if this cannot be done, then a short blurb about the post with a link to the forum would be acceptable. As it is right now, it shows on the newsfeed as I said and you get a read more on the post and when you click it it shows the whole post.

Anyone have any ideas about how to accomplish this? I checked all of the settings and I didn’t see anything that would help but it is always possible that I missed something.

    Thanks for reading!
    Jim

…Though, with that said, it looks like the aforementioned plugin hasn’t been updated in 8 years, so, perhaps it won’t be possible to get assistance from the authors at this point. Still, verifying if that is the cause of these issues is probably worthwhile.

    #206952

Is it possible that when you updated to 2.6 you ignored the Upgrade routines?

If so, you may want to try reinstalling bbPress 2.6.3, as a last minute fix went in after it was originally packaged.

    https://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/bbpress.2.6.3.zip

If I’m correct, then you will also want to consider running the database upgrades soon. Forums with over 10k users need to do it manually, in your Admin > Tools > Forums > Upgrades

There just has been a major release, which means that has been meetings and things have been set in motion.

This particular ticket has not been updated in some time, so getting it under peoples attention is the best that anyone can do 🙂
