    Hello everyone,

I am new to bbpress. I am trying to make a forum on this website. I uploaded the page templates that came with bbpress onto the server and am using it on the Discussion page, where my forum index is and as you can tell it is running over the sidebar. Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

I know there is a solution to add a code snippet to turn visual text editor on from https://codex.bbpress.org/enable-visual-editor/

But do I paste that in the bbpress function.php file?

the bbpress forum that I installed has no basic text editor, just a blank box.

Does anyone else have the same issue?

aah. forget the title “support”. this is the main title. you will find it everywhere! even on forum homepage:
    http://www.dashcamtest.de/support/

    the topic title is missing!

to show you the difference: i am talkin about single replies NOT topics. it is the same with your reply as single page:

Reply To: no title in content-single-reply.php

as you can see there is a nice title with prefix “Reply to:…”
and THIS is what i miss in my page. do you understand now? 🙂

    Hey guys,

I have been redoing the bbPress starter theme I created and along the way I created a guide on installing bbPress, creating the bbPress categories/forums, cool tweaks you can do for bbPress and a brief bit on how to promote your forum once you have it up and running.

I would really appreciate your feedback on the guide and anything you think needs to be fixed or expanded upon.

Hopefully you find it sooper useful!

    Hi again,
I just played with https://codex.bbpress.org/bbp_author_link/ and adapted it to my theme.

12hoursofmesaverde.com (I have Shopp deactivated right now)
    WordPress = 3.8.1
    bbPress = 2.5.3
    Shopp = 1.3.1

I’m not sure if this is a Shopp issue or bbPress so I am reporting it to both of you.

I can’t run Shopp and bbPress at the same time without bbPress breaking. When I have them both activated, many of the Shopp admin UI abilities go away (no forums tab, some forums disappeared). I also tried to make a new forum and got an error that the post type was not valid. When I deactivated Shopp, bbPress started working normally again.

    yes i’m using wp tweaks.

    plugin-bbpress.php
    bbpress.php
    *forums.php
    forum.php
    generic.php
    page.php
    single.php
    index.php

    forums.php is selected.

forum root is set to ‘forum’, with a mention ‘Possible conflict with bbpress forum slug.’ Below, this same mention is given, referring to the forum base (on single forum slugs)

Trae, thanks for coming back – we all have bad days 🙂

‘As far as sucky themes go, it’s really just my observation. I’m not trying to be cruel. I haven’t seen a truly amazing bbPress theme implementation that makes me go.. “HOLY COW, THIS IS AWESOME.” ‘

Just out of interest, can you let me have a url of a forum (any make!) that does make you go ‘holy cow’ or even “that looks nice” – I’m interested in what bbpress is missing.

ok, are you using bbpress wp tweaks?

And in Dashboard>settings>forums>forum root slug what is the forum root set to?

http://backpackersontrack.com/forums/forum/africa/ –> this one does contain a login screen. This one shows up when clicking on forum: Africa

http://backpackersontrack.com/forum-2/ –> this one doesn’t. This one shows up when clicking on forum via our homepage.

On the forum page on my dashboard, I inserted this code: [bbp-forum-index], referring to our BBpress forum.

    Hi,

When i place any of the BBPress default widgets that ‘list’ (ie ‘Recent Replies’, ‘Forums’, ‘Recent Topics’) on a category.php WordPress template, the listings
shows recent ‘posts’ from wordpress rather than BBPress objects?

Is this a bug or is there anything any one can suggest? I’ve tried resetting the query etc right above the widget output and underneath but nothing seems to work?

Thank you for any advice here!

Yes this is irrelevant as I am using filters to just add new fields. This is why I don’t understand it not saving correctly.

The options are saved but the value on each field is given a ZERO instead.

Is there a filter I missed for when the user saves the settings ?

If it helps, this is the tutorial I followed as it is the only one I have come across so far.

May be I overlooked something or there is a spelling mistake. A fresh pair of eyes might do just the trick.

I have some new spam users which do not complete their registration. so i have to delete them by hand. but it would be awesome if bbpress automatically deletes unregistered users after i.e. 48 hours.

Hello I have the exact same problem (posted this topic https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/pagination-with-threaded-replies/ yesterday too, didn’t see yours I think I am blind… lol)

If you find a workaround please let us know ^^
And if someone has an idea we’ll be really grateful 🙂

    thank you

Heh, I feel bad, and I know better. I’ve been in the Open Source community since 96′ and I do know better. I just always assume all the things have been sussed out.

I’m tired, exhausted from 24hrs work in two days. I do appreciate what you’ve said and actually was able to figure out how to get a different theme to show up.

I just wish there was a less “command-line”y way of doing things for those that might not know how to deal with a shell or to get their hands dirty.

I may not be able to code, but I do know my way around a unix command line.

As far as sucky themes go, it’s really just my observation. I’m not trying to be cruel. I haven’t seen a truly amazing bbPress theme implementation that makes me go.. “HOLY COW, THIS IS AWESOME.”

Anyhoo, again, thank you so much for taking time to respond.

    Cheers,
    Trae

I am close to finish building an extension plugin for MailPoet which allows the user to subscribe to a newsletter when they register on the forum.

My admin settings fields show in bbPress settings but when it comes to saving my field options I do not get back the value I either entered or selected. All values save with the number zero in the database.

This is the admin settings: https://github.com/seb86/MailPoet-bbPress-Add-on/blob/dev/includes/admin/mailpoet-bbpress-addon-admin-functions.php

Can I have some assistants to get my custom settings fully operational.

My plugin is available on GitHub as it is right now to show what I have done.

I hope someone can help me correct this problem please.

    Any help is most appreciated.

    Thank you.

Just to add to this thread as I’ve been experiencing the same sort of issues with edited replies appearing at the bottom of the thread and some other anomalies regarding posts being given strange “Reply to” post numbers (too inconsistent to reproduce).

All resolved for me by turning off the “Reply Threading” setting in Forums Settings. This also reactivated the paginating which hadn’t been working with this setting active.

Not running anything unusual although someone mentioned php version which I know not to be the latest on our server. Details below:

    PHP Version: 5.2.5
    Wordpress Version: 3.8.1
    Active Theme: Twenty Fourteen 1.0

    bbPress 2.5.3 (active)
    BuddyPress 1.9.2 (active)
    Disqus Comment System 2.74 (active)
    Fourteen Colors 1.0.1 (active)
    Jetpack by WordPress.com 2.8 (active)
    Unconfirmed 1.2.3 (active)
    WP Approve User 2.3 (active)

    #142937

Well perhaps I was being silly to begin with – the bbPress import/export tool didn’t seem to list bbPress 2.x on their options. There is a slim chance I did a lot more work than I needed to. However, at the end of the day, the hard work is complete. Over 8,000 threads + replies imported, as well as over 2,200 users. All users properly associated with topics.

The key step was importing users as a separate process — do it BEFORE you import forum threads+replies! When I relied on Pippin’s plugin to do this, it associated the users to admin. It was very messy. Using an existing plugin (make sure you tweak the import plugin to *NOT NOT NOT* send WP notification!) I was able to do this process very fast.

I used the plugin “Export Users 2 CSV” by Yoast ( https://wordpress.org/plugins/users-to-csv/ ) to import users.

Then I used a modified version of Import Users by DagonDesign ( http://www.dagondesign.com/articles/import-users-plugin-for-wordpress/ ) to import the users.

Again, you will need to instruct your users to fill out the Lost Password form, as these plugins do not preserve MD5+salt.
