    Hi, took a while (been checking a lot of backups to pinpoint the moment of the bug appearing). But I could recreate te same by setting up a new site, add a second admin to the site and then installing and activating BackWpup, checking the settings (a nice new column in Users named ‘BackWPup role’, and still all standard roles available on a new user), then installing and activating bbPress and bingo. Only the first admin (or probably the admin who installed bbPress, thats the fitting scenario for the live site) is now Keymaster, for new accounts there are only 4 standard roles available (no admin, only subscriber, writer, author and editor).
    Opening All users shows both users are actually Site Role = admin, BackWPup Role = BackWPup Admin and Forum Role only the user installing bbPress is Keymaster.
    Then when I open the other user and scroll down to Site Role (named just Role here) IT shows — No role for this site –. Scrolling down shows both the role setting for BackWPup and Forums, with BackWPup defaults to BackWPup Admin (probably because I didn’t configure it yet) and Forum Role = — No role for these forums –.
    In our live site I see the following: With bbpress installed, activated, used with some forums and 3 different users, in the user edit view there’s a Role field (limited to the 4 lesser roles), a BackWPup Role and a Forum role.
    When we deactivate bbpress the Forum Role is gone, but now the Forum Roles are visible in the Site Role list, next to the aforementioned roles, still lacking the Admin role.
    The same happens when deactivating bbpress on my test site.

    Hello all,

    I no longer need a forum on my site so I’m trying to remove bbPress to streamline things. When I go to deactivate bbPress, pretty much everything is fine except for one thing – when I view a single post or single page, the sidebar is gone.

    This doesn’t happen on the homepage.

    Any advice would be great.

    Hi Stephen,

    Thanks for responding! I actually updated from 2.5.2 to 2.5.4. Before I updated, I could just activate bbpress on a site-by-site basis on the multisite network and folks could use it just on their particular site. When I updated from 2.5.2 to 2.5.4, they could activate it on their site and I could see Forums, Topics, Replies but they couldn’t. I tested with the various roles and only Network Admin could see the menu items Forums, Topics, Replies. However, the actual forums were there and if I sent the site admin or site editor, etc., a direct link to the site forum, then could access it. It’s just the menu item visibility that’s the problem.

    Thanks!

    Why, this is fabulous! Thank you so much for your help!!

    I tested with your modified code for about an hour, and can’t seem to find any issues. I will post an update in case I do discover any problems…

    But this does appear to be the solution to searching single bbpress forums, including private ones in Buddypress. Thanks to you, @tobyhawkins! 🙂

    My site uses bbPress 2.5.4 for forums and topics. New topics can select a forum to be placed in. But when selecting a forum to read the error is Page Not Found.

    Example, http://raptureintheairnow.com/?forum=devotions should show the forum of Devotions. But from the main page http://raptureintheairnow.com/ all the topics can be viewed.

    All other plugins and themes are current.

    Permalinks are set to default.

    Hi Guys,
    I just updated my wordpress to version 4.0 and all my bbpress forums are
    returning a 404 page not found error.
    I have tried everything I have found on here and nothing works.

    All the topics are there in the dashboard, but when I want to view them — Not Found
    Apologies, but the page you requested could not be found. Perhaps searching will help..

    I disabled all my plugins and reactivated them one by one.
    I tried changing my permalinks to all the settings and saving them/ switching back etc and nothing happened.

    http://straight-talking-golf.com/members/stg/

    Trying to repair the forums and I get this:
    You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page
    P.S; I have full control over the server.

    @stg – then it is probably a plugin conflict.

    Plugins

    Deactivate all but bbpress and see if this fixes. if it does, re-enable one at a time to see which is causing the error.

    Themes

    If plugins don’t pinpoint the problem, as a test switch to a default theme such as twentytwelve, and see if this fixes.

    Stephen,

    The issue seems to be when permalinks are set to default (whether plugins are contributing or not I don’t know), but on this other thread we have another two who ‘fixed’ the issue by going away from default permalinks.

    I was installing bbPress on my website, using the Tools > Forums > Import forums. It was going okay until it reach converting replies. My forum have 52 600 messages in 18 000 subjects from 1200 users.
    – I visited the url mysite.com/forums and I see it well, but at first sights it seems there is no replies at all in every message.
    – Here is what I see in the yellow box.

    Can you tell me what to do from here ? (as nothing keep going, but the little wheels keeps tuning)

    Yes. That’s not ideal. I think the problem is the bbp_pre_get_posts_normalize_forum_visibility function in bbpress > includes > forums > functions.php.

    I’m not going to vouch for the security of this (although I think the logic is ok and cursory testing seems to bear this out) but you can get round this by changing your my_bbp_filter_search_results function to the following:

    function my_bbp_filter_search_results( $r ){

        //Get the submitted forum ID (added in gethub > bbpress > form-search.php)
        $forum_id = sanitize_title_for_query( $_GET['bbp_search_forum_id'] );

        //If the forum ID exits, filter the query
        if( $forum_id && is_numeric( $forum_id ) ){

            $r['meta_query'] = array(
                array(
                    'key' => '_bbp_forum_id',
                    'value' => $forum_id,
                    'compare' => '=',
                )
            );

            $group_id = bbp_get_forum_group_ids( $forum_id );
            if( groups_is_user_member( bp_loggedin_user_id(), $group_id[0] ) )
            {
                function my_allow_all_forums () { return true; }
                add_filter( 'bbp_include_all_forums', 'my_allow_all_forums' );
            }
        }

        return $r;
    }
    add_filter( 'bbp_after_has_search_results_parse_args' , 'my_bbp_filter_search_results' );

    To negate the danger of plugins forgetting to manage permissions for posts properly the normalize function visibility automatically steps in on any WP_Query activity and shuts it down, but apparently doesn’t account for the possibility of forums being private, but viewable by low level users within the group context. By adding the filter only when searching on a single forum and then only if the logged-in user is a member of the correct group I think I have accounted for the security issues, but I’m not enough of a php expert to be 100% confident that I haven’t missed something.

    Hi, BackupWP uses it’s own role list (just like bbpress seems to do with Forum Role).
    With bbPress activated adding a new user also gives me the short list of roles. Deactivated I get a mixed list of roles, and there is no seperate field for the forum anymore.

    I’m trying some scenarios on a clean install, but up to now it’s still ok. I’ll keep trying step by step with adding and activating plugins to see where it goes wrong.

    "if i would i suggest something , for looks i guess would be color coordination for forums and topics, if you switch to topic freshness instead of forum archive.

    so the layout would be

    title of topic
    started by: (user) in (color of forum) title of forum

    or just the title of the forum with the color of the forum as a background/

    imo thats the only suggestion i really want"

    My impressions so far

    finally got this done , but i bet there is a better way of doing it instead of how i did it.

    will post tutorial later if i find a better way.

    I still see plugins enabled, the issue cannot be reproduced with only WordPress 4.0 and bbPress 2.5.4, thus in every instance thus far this issue has occurred it has been a plugin conflict, we need to find this conflict to work out where to from here.

    It should take only a few minutes to test this as I outlined in my original reply above.

    Hi, sorry for kicking this topic, but I’m having a problem probably related to this.
    I have a site with 2 admins/keymasters. As soon as I activate bbPress the other admin loses his role. Apon checking the database I find for him the wp_capabilities change from:

    a:1:{s:13:"administrator";b:1;s:14:"backwpup_admin";b:1;s:13:"bbp_keymaster";b:1;}

    to:

    a:1:{s:15:"bbp_participant";b:1;}

    When adjusting his rights in All Users -Edit the only roles available are: Subscriber, Contributor, Author and Editor.

    And when I disable bbPress and go into All Users -Edit, I can have the full list of roles (Keymaster, Participant, Blocked, Spectator, ..). These are forum roles, not general WordPress roles. Even in the database I find the 2nd admin (actually the 1st admin btw) now has the wp_capabilities a:1:{s:13:"bbp_keymaster";b:1;}, which is clearly bbp related.

    I’m running WordPress 4.0 with main plugins Theatre (http://wordpress.org/plugins/theatre/), WordPress SEO (by Yoast), Contact Form 7 and some minor plugins for adjusting posts, background and the like (nothing role related).

    Are you saying this worked as expected with bbPress 2.5.3 and now 2.5.4 has broken this functionality?

    I am experiencing the same problem. I have updated to WordPress 4.0 two days ago
    Any of my old links to the forums just result in a 404 Error
    I also get a 404 if I access through the /forum route on my web address

    Our website is http://www.sailscorpion.co.uk some of our users have raised it with us.

    Any help on this would be appreciated
    I don’t have any of the plugins shown above

    Thanks

    I’ve got the same problem as @stargatecarterpack

    Whenever I go to a topic, it just shows the first reply, and blank if no replies.

    None of my plugins match the OP list. I’ve gone back to 3.9.2 for now. I’ll try the one-by-one approach on plugins at the weekend, and report back if I find a fix.

    Hi,

    Amazing plugin. Just ran into an unusual problem. I have a large multisite and I’ve been using bbpress and buddypress for a couple years with no problems until now. I just updated bbpress to 2.5.4 and here’s the problem:

    1. site administrator activates bbpress
    2. the site administrator does not see Forums, Topics, and Replies in the dashboard menu
    3. If I navigate to their site as a network admin, I can see Forums, Topics, and Replies

    So only network admin can see these menu items if activated on a site-by-site basis.

    If I network activate bbpress, then everyone sees Forums, Topics, and Replies. I want to allow users to choose to activate bbpress on a site by site basis.

    I’m on 3.9.2 and have tried disabling all plugins except multisite plugin management. Thoughts?

    Thanks!

    Hey guys,

    I’m currently in the process of migrating from phpBB over to bbPress and I could use a little help.

    I was wondering if you guys could help me out…

    I would only like to have 1 Forum on my website instead of the 3 that I currently have and I would like people to be taken to this forum when they visit the root URL of http://www.mmabettingtips.com/forums/

    For example I would like to just have “General Discussion” as the main root forum, instead of having the option to visit various different forums.

    Right now I can’t work out how to do that and I can only show either a set number of the latest posts or the top level forums that are displayed at the moment:

    http://www.mmabettingtips.com/forums/

    Is there a way to set bbPress up, so that it is just one forum?

    I doubt there will be a need to expand the forum in the future, so this won’t be a problem.

    If you guys could let me know, I’d really appreciate it!

    Thanks a lot!
