    Erlend,

    Thanks for your comment.

Yes, It does have an effect to be one category deeper (at least according to Matt Cutts from Google).

So, yes please, I want to generate the URL’s without any additional sub-category… and Yes, I would not mind if i had something like ../forums/general generated.

Would be great if you could tell me how to take this extra subdirectory layer off in bbpress ?

Yes! I very much want to use bbpress template tags within wordpress theme files. I tried it and get an error. I know the bbpress 2.0 codex will come out soon, and maybe that will help. But in the meantime? Thanks!

It sounds like you have tried to install bbpress 2.0 using bbpress 1.0 instructions. bbPress 2.0 is a WordPress plugin and should be installed and activated accordingly. If you are going to FTP upload it, place it in /wp-content/plugins.

Just another thought thrown in here, although it doesn’t really tie into P2.

What if nested replies were made possible by BuddyPress activity replies? That’s already made possible via the activity view, but it’d be super cool if those replies could be integrated into the post view.

For what it’s worth, removing “topic” should have no effect on SEO.

If you have a “General” forum, i.e. at /forums/general , wouldn’t you rather avoid the confusion if a user starts a thread called “general”? I actually don’t know what would happen in this scenario…

Well, I have a quick, but questionable and probably not recommended, solution, if you just want to style with CSS.

    1) Copy the content from bbp-twentyten/css/bbpress.css to your child theme styles.css – this should give you all the ids and classes to work with;

    2) Rename the original bbpress.css file to something else, in order to turn it unusable – this should be done because the original bbpress.css file always override your theme’s CSS;

    3) Style at your taste.

This should avoid your work from being deleted on every update.

When an update occurs, just do step 2 again.

A quick and easy solution like this is unlikely to be the right one in this case, but works for simple styling.

I have upload the bbpress 2 uncompressed folder to public Directory of my Domain Sever but NO Installer there when i go to Domain Plz Help.

    “Quick Instructions

1.Download bbPress from the download page

2.Upload the uncompressed files to your server

3.Optionally upload language files to “my-languages” – You will have to create this directory

4.Visit the intended URL of the bbPress site

5.You will be greeted with the bbPress installer

6.Follow the instructions in the installer

7.Visit “Settings” in the admin area to customise your installation

8.If you have any questions, ask in the forums”

After a standard installation of the bbPress 2 plugin, I am getting this kind of URL for my forum posts:

    http://mywebsite.com/forums/topic/this-is-the-name-of-the-forum-post

For SEO purposes I would like to shorten the URL to this:

    http://mywebsite.com/forums/this-is-the-name-of-the-forum-post

I tried to the content of the field “Topic slug” , but it keeps on returning, whenever I save the settings.

How can I shorten the URL structure of all posts?

I have already figured out (I think) the easiest way to make websites share users, but what exactly is the best way to have each website link to the same forum (if possible, with it’s own theme to fit the websites scheme, but unnecessary).

The reason I ask is because I don’t want to just off-site link to the forum… I’d like the domain and the navigation to stay the same.

I am trying to do the same. We are using both the buddypress group forums and sitewide bbpress (2.0).

Anyone successfully used this method with bbpress?

I am trying to integrate my forum into my wordpress forum but the integrated forum is off set.

It shows to the right of the page and the right hand side of the topic headings is cut off. The theme that I am using in wordpress is twent eleven 1.2.

I can’t access my bbpress admin page as I keep getting unregistered user messages. I have submitted another post about this.

the url to see how my blog appears is here

I recently tried to integrate my bbpress forum (what do Chrisrtians believe) with my wordpress blog (food for thought. Somehow the end result what do christians believe being integrated with chrisrtiansbelieve.

Christiansbeleive is a wordpress that i tried to create a long time ago and had forgotten about it.

The consequence of this is that I don’t have access to my bbpress forum (what do christians beleive?). I keep getting unregistered user messages. I can’t even reset the password.

Is it possible to delete this integration link and to give me access to my forum?

Let’s say I have a fresh WP 3.2.1 and NO plugins installed.

In fact, everything is default from a fresh installation.

I am lead to understand that bbPress is an enhanced version of the built in forums in BuddyPress. In order to have a web2.0 type forum with sharing and favoriting and comment-post-topic interaction you need to add bbPress.

    First I install BuddyPress 1.5.1.

Then I install BuddyPress Template Pack 1.2 to assist in moving over the BuddyPress pages to my site.

Then I go to WP settings and allow users to register. There are some new additions to the drop down menu here so I select the default user role and set it to “member” this should be sufficient to allow users to post new topics.

Next I run though the BuddyPress Template Pack wizard (with all defaults) and end up with a working BuddyPress site that is integrated into my theme.

    Works good.

There are no groups or forums yet, and one member ‘admin’.

I now have a basic forum where a user can register and create a topic, reply to topics etc.

My aim here is to have ONE forum (one) that has user-created posts that are also integrated into the forum for discussion as topics, the user created topics are actually posts with full text and featured image and all that jazz.

So on the front end I now have a menu with the default BuddyPress pages (they have been created by BuddyPress) activity — members — groups — forums — register

Now what I want to do is add the ability for a registered and logged in user to create a post that becomes a topic in the forum. Sounds simple right?

So to add this functionality, I download and install bbPress 2.0.

All it seems to have done is add three new areas to my WP Admin left margin:

    forums — topics — replies

Moving on I want to install bbPress Topics for Posts 0.6

According to this plugin creator, this plugin is supposed to Add an option to the Discussion meta box to use a bbPress topic instead of WordPress comments, and displays that topic beneath the post on your site.

So as of right now I have 4 (four) plugins installed, and I need another plugin for users to be able to add posts, then they can see the bbpress post to topic option and integrate it into the forum themselves.

Once I find this plugin, I will continue this thread.

I’ve just installed bbpress and I can’t view posts. The post topic appears, but not the posted discussion comment/question. After the listed topic, I see “This topic has 1 voice, contains 0 replies, and was last updated” followed by the reply to box. But the discussion comment/question isn’t anywhere in sight!

    Help truly appreciated! Thx.

Doesn’t matter now. Its actually WordPress itself that handles this, not bbpress.

i’m adding bbPress to our WP blog, followed the instructions in the Theme Compatibility sticky and appended all the functions from bbPress/functions.php into myTheme/functions.php. as soon as i reloaded the page, i got a critical fault error. can’t find the required class. since i copied all the files across as instructed, shouldn’t the file be locatable? i’m not sure where to even begin with this. i thought integration would be relatively simple, i’m sure its something simple i’m overlooking.

please help me out so i can get cranking. i’ve already blown away the theme i built because i didn’t know bbPress’ cute little update ‘feature’, so i’m anxious to get back on track.

should mention, using latest of WordPress and bbPress.

    thank you very much

Just figured it out. It was a strange setting in my blog template. All is well now. :)

I never did get it to work correctly. I just made number of topics showing 5. Then it created a new page.

But now I have a similar problem on the main Forum page. I now have 6 forums, but only 5 will show. There is not a page 2 link at the bottom. I adjusted the settings to only show 5, but still no page 2.

    Any suggestions?

BTW, I am using the plugin version and have not altered the templates.

I solve it myself.. It seems that all unpublic forum are classified into private posts in bbp_map_meta_caps(), including hidden. I change some code and it work well. Maybe adding a read-hidden-post in post_type during activating bbpress is better. Thanks so much..

I personally find it ridiculous that someone would suggest that the developer shouldn’t have to do the documentation. Or at least that is what it sounded like when I read these comments.

If the dev doesn’t completely supply documentation, how is anyone else going to know what the heck to do with this plugin?

If this is such a great plugin, then make it easier to integrate into the themes.

It is difficult enough getting our websites up and functioning without having to pull our hair out trying to figure out how to use a plugin that is supposed to be so great.

I have noticed that there are a lot of dev’s who don’t contribute much documentation for wordpress. How unfortunate they assume everyone can read their minds.

This topic has been up for months and still having no clear directions. Hope everyone else figures it out. I’m not going to bother with this.. If the dev doesn’t care, I sure don’t.
