Hi. I followed the instructions to ‘deep integrate’ but it’s not working. The instructions say “All you need to do is specify the location of that database on installation or afterwards in the ‘WordPress Integration’ section of the “Settings” area in your bbPress admin.”

I did that, but when I then go to the forum url, I get this error message:

    “Deep Integration With WordPress Required

It appears your WordPress installation isn’t deeply integrated which is required for iBlogPro Forum to work correctly (it needs access to WP functions).

“Please see Deep Integration With WordPress”

    Help!

    Hello,

I have a client who want to make changes to the main text from front page. The text is located in front-page.php and is easy for somebody to do manually edit, however that function would be great.

In WordPress I would create a custom field and call it there but not sure how it works in BBpress. Will work via a custom plugin or the function.php?

Thanks in advance for your help here!

right guys fixed the url problem so forum is back up. now have access to the control panel and have myphpadmin installed in wordpress so can edit all the other bits.

Anyone able to help regarding the add topic links etc??

This is a new installation, so am just seeing it. Didn’t notice it during development, and really have no idea how to track it down.

    Integration steps taken:

    – bb-config.php has COOKIEPATH, BB_AUTH_KEY, BB_SECURE_AUTH_KEY, BB_LOGGED_IN_KEY, BB_NONCE_KEY (all keys match values in wp-config.php) & require_once($_SERVER . ‘/’ . ‘wp-blog-header.php’);

    – WordPress-bbPress syncronization plugin v0.8.0 installed & active in both WP & bbP.

    – bbP has a few other plugins but nothing I would think would affect any of the above issues (allow images, auto add favs, bbcode buttons, bbcode lite, new post notification).

Thought I followed all the integration steps to the letter, but I guess something is amiss. Seen anything like this before?

We’ve done this before. Relax. :)

Greatly appreciate you posting Matt, thanks.

With absolute respect though, we know Automattic’s done this before:

    • we were here for BBpress 0.9 not integrating to 2 new versions of WordPress and not getting an update when WP did.
    • we were here for Sam not posting an update/techy questions answered etc for almost 3 months weeks after 0.9’s release
    • we were here for major announcements being slapping into page 3 of non-stickied threads – now apparently they’re half way down IRC logs no-one posts.
    • we were here with the BBpress1.0alphas (who remember that fun and games)
    • we were here with the awful BBpress1.0 rollout
    • we were here with the awful BBpress1.0 testing/bug-fixing (“we have decided to scrap Beta testing and bug fixing and will move to RC1 next week”)
    • we were here when the sole developer left
    • we’ve had 1 upgrade to BBpress to coincide with 5 updates of WordPress

Thats not me being angry or upset or anything, its just that since the move to BBpress1.0 and the removal of the documentation site to be a porn site, all i can do is ask PM/BAquestions. I know we’re not the most loved bunch by developers (or anyone?? ;-]) but we have a skillset thats sometimes often overlooked by developers.

The developer, BBshowcase.com and BBprogress.org (2 main plugin developers/resources) have left the sinking ship. Heck the ship couldn’t do what it actually said for the last 18 months. With silence from Automattic for months all people could hear was the sound of the band who played us out. It’s great that you’re coming with liferafts and a new engine and any other nautical anaology (really shouldn’t have started this ;-] ), but when you get here and start making the same mistakes I don’t think its wrong for us to at least point them out.

Its great you’re here Matt, its great all the people putitng time and development into it are here (thank you all), and heck even if you don’t take BBpress in a way I personally want, thats cool. I’m not here for a personal agenda of the features i personally want. It just that this project screams out for a PM and instead its got a truly lovely lead developer that everyone likes so much they’re too scared/in-awe to say “Dude, please, take a step back a sec, this is mental”.

We’ve done this before. Relax. :)

Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it

You might have more success asking at the wordpress.org or wordpress.com support forums, depending on how you’re hosted.

Sounds like you need some local help to get you through these issues.

Or, can you go back to an installation without integration, without requiring that WordPress file?

    Hi guys

If I install and use Simple LDAP plugin for WordPress, and also install bbPress, is bbPress also automatically synchronized with the LDAP/users, og do I need to have a seperate LDAP plugin for bbPress?

Thanks for any answers in advance :-)

I was a bit baffled by this too, but when I brought it up in the IRC chat, most seemed to think it was a better idea to slowly integrate bbPress into WordPress. I thought that would be far more difficult than starting from scratch, but there were a few people in the chat who know far more than I about such things who thought that was an easier approach, so I’m willing to take their word for it.

Since it looks like the move to WordPress isn’t coming any time soon, I’m working on ways to make it easier to integrate WordPress themes into bbPress 0.9 and 1.0 (and any newer versions) without taking a performance hit like you do with deep integration. I’d rather be developing plugins for bbPress, but as pointed out above, there’s not much point developing plugins for a moving target.

I think these are the best instructions thus far for integration:

    https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/wp-integration-coockie-does-not-work#post-61969

There’s nothing specific to 2.9.1 that would make the integration any different from 2.9 or 2.8.6, 2.8.5, etc. There was a change around 2.5 and again around 2.7 (I think) that caused all sorts of problems, but that’s resolved now and since then the 1.0.x version of bbPress should integrate with the latest WordPress.

I registered. The forum registration was forced through WordPress. I logged in at WordPress. I appear logged in at the forum. When I try page two, I got the login box from WordPress as you experienced.

When I tried I tried loggin in at bb-login.php with the password that was mailed out by WordPress, it said “incorrect password.”

So, I’d say it has something to do with the integration.

Has it ever worked before and this is new, or since installation it’s always been like this?

Guys been having some real problems from day one with this one.

Installed bbpress and a theme, integrated it into my wordpress blog.

all of that had its problems but i got around them and got it to work.

after everything I ended up getting tonnes of 404 errors everything is pointing to the wrong place and wondered how to fix it, first thing was that the forum link was pointing to the root folder but not a php file so It wasnt displaying anything. changed that to the index.php file and it was fine.

however once I got there I noticed the link to the admin cms didnt work because it pointed to the admin file …../bb-admin/ but not ……/bb-admin/index.php (this ending works)

What i did stupidly was in the cms changed the section that says bb press forum url. I changed it to …../blog/forum/index.php

Now that ive done this I can only access it in firefox and I cant change it back It just displays in plain text format aligned to the left of the screen and I no longer have a field to enter the old url.

Can anyone help on both issues, how to get it back to normal and how to fix my page not found errors.

    thanks

I’m using WordPress 2.9.1 and the cookie integration doesn’t seem to be working. I did get the warning that the bbpress integration plug-in had not been tested with my version of WordPress.

Can anyone confirm that this is in fact not working? I believe my settings are correct. If it is confirmed, does anyone have any word on when it will work with 2.9.1?

    Thanks very much!

ok, will look into it.. we have much better development practices now which will allow us to do more with our resources.

not sure how much work it will be to add BuddyPress support (we get a lot of WordPress Mu requests too)

Adding that to bb-config.php just allows you to use WordPress functions in bbPress. What did you want to happen?

    @kevinjohngallagher

I posted the last couple weeks of IRC logs. No one stepped up to do the Dec 30 one, and PeteMall was going to post the first January one, but got stuck on something, so I finished that post. I posted yesterday’s about an hour after the meetup was done. The logs are always available here, even if they’re not posted to the blog. We’re just reposting, verbatim, information available elsewhere:

    https://irclogs.wordpress.org/chanlog.php?channel=bbpress

As a participant in a couple of the recent meetups, I will share my observations.

I disagreed that anonymous posting and email notifications were at all important. I think email notifications happened because the work was largely done (from somewhere) and it was easy for Matt to add. And filosofo had an anonymous post plugin largely done, so that was added.

From the beginning, I’ve argued that bugs need to be fixed first (see number 5 here from Joel http://www.joelonsoftware.com/articles/fog0000000043.html,) things that are built in but just plain not working. I think it’s important to fix bugs before adding new features. At yesterday’s meetup, I think I got that point across.

And with regard to your observation, which I agree with, that the 3 most used tags are WordPress, Integration and plugin: the decision has been made to make bbPress a WordPress plugin. That takes care of the first two: WordPress and Integration. Plugin as a tag here never meant “make bbPress a WordPress plugin” it meant one of these things:

    • you can do what you want with a plugin (i.e. don’t hack the core)
    • there is a plugin available already, here’s the link
    • I’m having a problem with *this* plugin

Until the structure of bbPress stabilizes a little bit, I think there is going to be a problem getting people involved in creating plugins for bbPress, a moving target. It happened with the move from 0.9 to 1.0. Things changed radically enough under the hood that many plugins broke. I wouldn’t waste any time developing plugins for a platform that I know is going to change in the near future, possibly breaking my plugins again.

My gut feeling on the whole thing is:

    • fix bugs in existing functionality
    • ignore anything to do with integration of either themes or logins right now
    • when the 1.x release is less bug ridden, focus on integrating more tightly with WordPress, theme integration, function integration, login integration.
    • focus on plugins that are needed at that point

That’s my take on it, from the outside.

I also think that the development will gel a little bit after the initial flurry of talk, if not activity. Right now I think it’s important to get people involved, show people something is happening, maybe drum up some additional volunteers, and after that the direction can be set more clearly.

The beginnings of projects like this always remind me of the top part of this graph:

    http://www.mascoatsingapore.com/Images/Combo%20sound%20graph.gif

At the beginning you’re not very focused, swinging wildly from side to side, but eventually you narrow your scope and direct everyone’s efforts toward a single point.

In light of whats being talked about in this thread ” http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/whats-happening-with-bbpress “, is it such a good idea to install this and perhaps start using it?

I do feel that the project has a strong community spirit, though mostly I feel its mainly because its closely linked to WordPress.

I really want to use this forum software as whilst its simple and kind of goes back to the roots of the forum days in that ever talked about “web 2.0” style, I dont want to build up a site using this software for the project to be binned later on down the line.

    Many thanks.

From a management perspective, vBulletin has tons more functionality and control over the forum. Ironically, I integrated a vBulletin forum with WordPress last week and it took about the same time/work as integrating bbPress (it’s basically just a wordpress plugin).

If all you want is a “light” forum then bbpress is definitely the way to go, because vBulletin can feel quite heavy sometimes, especially if you don’t benefit from all the features (attaching files is built in).

It’s easiest to just use the same database that you use for WordPress. It makes things easier when you go to integrate the two. Just be certain the table prefixes are unique for bbPress and WordPress. WordPress uses wp_ and bbPress uses bb_ by default, so if you don’t change them you will be fine. You do NOT want to install bbPress using a wp_ table prefix. Bad things will happen.
