I am using bbpress ver 2.5.4

This is my problem. Spectator can not post (want to change this) spectator can not see private forums (which I want to keep the same)

Contributor can post (I do want) Can see private forums (dont want)

This is what i want to do. I want to either make it so a spectator can post and not see private forums or I want to set it up a new default subscriber role that can post in normal forum sections but can not see or post in private sections until I turn them into contributor.

How do I do this? I am using bbpress as a plugin for my wordpress site not on wordpress.org

    Thanks

for the moment leave it active, the next version of wordpress may fix the issue, but otherwise just leave it there

@robin-w With the code you’ve written now the various parts of the forum is bigger.
The problem is that I can not change manualente all parts of the theme.
The theme for bbPress does not have a css because it goes to get the css of wordpress theme right?

As ever with the theme HUEman this does not happen?

    Very thanks

bbPress is tested with wordpress default themes. It maybe a conflict – you need to check plugins and themes

It could be a theme or plugin issue

    Plugins

Deactivate all but bbpress and see if this fixes. if it does, re-enable one at a time to see which is causing the error.

    Themes

If plugins don’t pinpoint the problem, as a test switch to a default theme such as twentytwelve, and see if this fixes.

Today I updated my wordpress from 3.9 to 4.0. Now all the forum’s topics vanished. The forum shows “sorry brother no topics…..”. In my WP Dashboard, the topics are there but when i open its ‘view’ link, the topics are not there except the title of the topic.

Previously, i.e. before wordpress update, everything was fine and I haven’t installed any new plugins
I am using bbpress version 2.5.4

Someone do suggest. the forum is important part of my site.

Im using the latest bbspress with wordpress 4.0 with paid membership pro. When I post a topic I can see it and any one else that post. When a user goes to a topic they can’t see what I posted but what they posted. This is going on two sites. Could this be a bug? Even some one who is not logged in can’t see my post but they can see others.

    Hi

I just finished an import of a former VBulletin install, including 10 forums and over 183000 replies. It took a long while but finally succeeded.

The problem is that the users imported but not associated with the correct topics and replies. In other words they are all out of sync…the wrong user with the wrong replies.

Is there a way to fix this? I have run all the repair features. But still it is not correct.

    Thanks for any help.

    BBpress Version 2.5.4

    Hi,

I’ve installed bbPress for WordPress in faisa.eii.us.es and it is not showing any forum/category.
It is only showing the main/root forum page, but any forum/category link showed there goes to “no page found”, so anyone can’t navigate to the subforums/subcategories inside, and no one can reach the final forum where the topics are…

    Could you help me? Thanks!!

    not as such

    There is a POT file

    bbpress/languages/bbpress.pot

    see

    https://codex.wordpress.org/Translating_WordPress

so you could in theory translate bbpress into your words

Presuming you have default permalinks (don’t worry if you have no idea what this means) then it is a known issue with wordpress 4.0 and is in the queue for a fix on the next release.

in the meantime you can either

move you child themes up a level

or (better) change your permalinks to ‘pretty’ ones.

see https://codex.wordpress.org/Using_Permalinks for explanation of what a permalink is

    go to

Dashboard>settings>permalinks and set them to ‘postname’

these anti-spammer and security plugins look interesting too, but i have not tested them myself, they should work fine with bbpress but always test carefully for possible confilicts with other plugins you are using, especially plugins that have similar functionality

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/avh-first-defense-against-spam/

and wordpress security is a bigger topic than just dealing with spammers, but sorting out the specifics is up to you 🙂

not really fair to blame the bbpress developers (free software made by volunteers) for not having every possible feature built into core, all forum apps (phpbb, etc) that i am aware of require separate anti-spam plugins

bbpress itself is just a plugin for wordpress, so anti-spam is more a wordpress problem than only a bbpress problem, and there are many anti-spam wordpress plugins out there, and dealing with spammers & bots etc is a BIG topic, and a continually evolving battle for anyone running any sort of website…

otherwise, i think it would help keep this forum orderly if there were a sticky or somesuch with a maintained list of commonly requested bbpress plugins like anti-spam, polls, custom avatars, granular membership permissions, etc

here are the wordpress anti-spam plugins i mentioned in the other topic, all work well with bbpress, start with wangguard which is the easiest to use, all require careful config and monitoring to make sure they are functioning properly

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/wangguard/

Still looking for someone who can do this (you alive, Stephen?) 😉

Most recent bbPress and WordPress users from one install to another all the while linking correct admins to their corresponding posts and making sure forums, topics, and replies all remain correctly linked despite conflicting post IDs with the install we’re importing into.

I’ve gotten my bbpress forum set up on my site and I need to somehow add a link back to the main forum page. Once users click on a individual topic to comment there is no easy link to get back to the main forum.

I figured I could somehow add a link into one of the .php templates but nothing I add to them seems to show up at all on site. If anyone can point me to the correct .php template to modify or if there is a simple setting to enable this I’d greatly appreciate it.

I’m on wordpress version 4.0 and bbpress version 2.5.4
    Thanks,

I can’t reproduce this on a clean install of WP 4.0 with bbPress 2.5.4 and Twenty Fourteen theme. What other plugins are you using? I’ve tried it both with Join My Multisite and this pluginhttps://wordpress.org/plugins/multisite-plugin-manager/ (tried them separately, I mean) and both work.

Can you give any more details? Which theme are you using?

my plugin should allow you to only see the required forums

If I have understood you correctly you want to change the reply form you’ll be looking at

wp-content/plugins/bbpress/templates/default/bbpress/form-reply.php which sets up the forum and on line 57 calls

    bbp_the_content

    this function is in

    wp-content/plugins/bbpress\includes\common\template.php

    line 1706

you’d probably want to write a filter fro that function

if you’re familiar with wordpress args parsing, bbpress does it in the same way

    apply_filter (‘xx’ , ‘bbp_before_get_the_content_parse_args’)

and then write a function xx that adds you initial text to $args[‘before’] should do it

Don’t; have time to write and test it at the mo, but come back if you need further help

    yes my plugin

lets you show that forums exist, but not content
