Topic: Sticky post
Hi! I’m just getting my feet wet with bbPress. Two quick questions:
1- Is it possible for a forum administrator to upgrade a post by another user to a “sticky post”?
2- Is there a function/plug in where users can vote to make a post a sticky post?
Well it’s been six month now so we’re long overdue
for another (completely unofficial) TOP 100 report!

Top 1000 requires free registration/login:
http://bbshowcase.org/forums/view/top1000
New this year is the ability to vote on sites, based on quality/content, so even if a site is not in the regular Top 100 list, be sure to “vote it up” and I will post another list soon with the highest votes. There are some really nice looking forums running bbPress out there that deserve some votes. You must be a member to vote but registration is free of course. The Top 1000 list can also be searched when you are logged in, as well as an experimental Tag Cloud
When we last left the list, it had just topped over 4000 websites.
In the newest list, despite roughly 1000 sites disappearing (small test installs, etc.) the list is now over 6000 strong! This means an average of 15 sites per day are installing and sticking with bbPress. About 10% of these forums are running the new 1.0 alpha (and half of those have not upgraded to the newest 1.0a6, so they need to keep up with the releases).
At this rate, next time I am going to have to make it the Top 10,000 list.
However I am sad to report a dark side has emerged in bbPress’s growth. Because of how much easier bbPress is to control and manipulate with just a basic knowledge of PHP/MySQL compared to other forum software, some “black hats” have latched onto bbPress in order to create a big content spamming network, nearly 200 sites strong. They aim these sites at search engines with topics such as gambling, lottery and foreign currency exchanges. You can see them at the very end of the Top 1000 list, where they sit demoted. This really doesn’t affect the average forum operator in any way, it’s just unfortunate to see. WordPress went through this kind of event too, I just hate to see it happen.
ps. This list also marks the first inclusion of a TalkPress powered site and while it only has a couple dozen posts because it’s brand new, it has the easy access of 7.5million WordPress.com members so it’s bound to grow quickly!
Topic: Is this entire site bbpress?
Please pardon the stupid noob post. I am completely new to this area of technology. I am looking for a solution which will function as a corporate portal/intranet.
I like the horizontal tabs as featured on this site. My site would have tabs with company news, policies and procedures, links, blog(s), and of course discussion forums. I am also expecting to have flexible layout capabilities…multiple columns, etc.
With that in mind, I have two questions:
1. Is the entire bbpress.org site strictly bbpress, or does it also utilize WordPress?
2. Does bbPress allow for multiple moderators? Our discussion forums will be devoted to various topics, with subject matter experts within the company moderating.
2. W
I am using bbPress 1.0 alpha. Anonymous user can view vote result text only not vote bar.How to fix it?
It’s time to take another look at the (unofficial) bbPress Top 100 list! I’ve come up with some more advanced ways to find bbPress forums and I am pleased to announce the full list has broken 3,000 forums and provided for some new discoveries for the Top 100:

(based on activity, not quality, which is subjective)
If you register/login you can also see the sites that may have just missed the top 100 via the top 1000:

August update was essentially aimed at finding new sites, not updating stats for existing sites. I’ll do a full re-analysis next month.
Some really nice looking sites among the bunch. I enabled “snapshots” so you can mouse-over their little logo and get a general preview. I hope to improve the list soon with the ability to vote on the design of any site.
Also new for this month is an attempt to guess what country the site is “aimed at” (not hosted in or TLD used). This is very difficult to determine and I estimate my automated route is currently correct only 70% of the time.
Some interesting statistics…
1) bbPress has been installed on at least 4000 sites
2) There are now at least 200 sites with over 1000 posts.
3) A bbPress forum will break one million posts late 2008
More analysis as I have time…
If I missed your site be sure to post it for the next update!
Topic: Top 100 listings
Hi all
I am going live with my site soon, and was wondering how the showcase of Top 100 forums is rated. Is it by number of users on each forum or is it voted for?
Thanks
With the 0.9 release, and now six months after the first roundup, I figured it was time to take another look at the (completely unofficial) bbPress Top 100 list:
http://bbshowcase.org/forums/view/top100
While about 200 sites have gone missing from the previous list, I managed to find about 600 more to make up for it, so the list is now at just under 1500 (a 50% growth).
If you register/login you can also see the sites that may have just missed the top 100, or see the whole deal via the top 1000:

If I missed your site, be sure to let me know for the next update…
