    I really can’t understand why most people voted for “integration with wordpress”

    Well, probably because… Its one of the 7 core features advertised on the feature page: https://bbpress.org/about/features/

    Also, its been the number one request for the last two years, and its the number one posted topic for the last two years, and the number one used tag for the last two years and… actually to continute would be flogging a dead horse.

    P.S. How bad has Akismet been recently? Not to spark a different conversation but maybe it needs a different way of deciding if Forum posts are spam in regards to teh way it decides if Blog Comments are spam.

    I voted for integration because it’s the number one, most common problem here, based on the number of questions, most often used tag, big selling point was “ease of integration” and that promise has been completely unmet. Getting single log in working for bbPress and WordPress, getting the theme to look the same, having access to WordPress functions, all these things are promised by integration, and none of them work unless you light some incense and candles, sacrifice an animal and dance around naked under a silver moon. Then, MAYBE, you can get integration working. I don’t want a single new feature until that happens.

    Until that point, and until people here stop asking how to do it, I will continue to vote for integration as the number one feature. If it’s not going to happen, then stop saying it will on the front page of this website.

    Guys,

    I’m really happy there is a thread like this. I voted ‘integration with WordPress’ but honestly, there are a LOT OF THINGS I wished, were by default.

    When I switched from SMF to bbPress, I didn’t know what I was getting myself into. The reason I switched was, because SMF is using this license that you can’t change the code or something. And because of that, plugins were hard to find.

    My users who visit my site, daily and already so many years, were totally used to the many features that SMF had/has. So the day I switched, they arrived at a forum who was completely empty.

    Sure there are plugins, but not all plugins work (well) and sometimes you need spent hundreds of hours to get a plugin working. Not everyone has the time for it.

    My forum doesn’t have a private message system, cause the plugins that are available, don’t work on it.

    The forum doesn’t have a build-in feature for users to upload their own avatar. I had to achieve that via a plugin and hundreds of hours spending on this forum.

    I don’t wanna sound like I’m complaining, I just want that it should be clear to some members that they should be a bit more open minded and not think that everything is fine and everyone can handle it. There are webmasters out there, that spent lots of time on bbPress forums and their own site to make it work like a normal forum.

    “Please vote for features which aren’t available yet”

    1. WYSIWYG-Editor

    Availible for about 18 months now mate…

    2. Facebook Connect.

    Can i ask please mate, and with no disrespect, because alot of people are asking for this so there’s obviously a good reason that i’m just missing, in what way is it helpful to BBpress (which right now cant integrate properly with WordPress) to spend development time tyring for integration with someone else’s closed software? What are the advantages to the people who run forums of Facebook Connect?

    Am i missing something since i hit 30?

    We cant properly administer topics and posts, half the plugins we used to use dont work, and folks think Facebook Connect is the way forward? I’m not knocking it, i’m just loking for the reason. Thanks

    *NB – to clarify, i’m not putitng anyones opinion down, I just dont see what the benfits of this system are. We’ve seen every internet company since ’90s (with the possible exception of google) go through Boom Bust scenarios and become obsolete. What the benfits of spending development time on this?

    I really can’t understand why most people voted for “integration with wordpress” and “anonymouse posting” because bbpress is already integrated in wordpress and it exists already a plugin for anonymouse posting. Please vote for features which aren’t available yet!

    My favourites are:

    1. WYSIWYG-Editor

    2. Facebook-Connect

    OK, i may be a little off the reservation here, but for me the One feature that BBpress has seriously lacked has been… The ability to complete simple/standard Administration tasks form the Backend.

    Heck, some of them cant even be done at all…

    Why is it that we’ve not been able to move a post from one Topic to another for 2 years (since 0.7’s plugin stopped working for 0.9a)? That seems a fundamental to me.

    Why is it that we cant move/edit/delete/administer topics (and/or posts) from the Backend?

    Matt, i realise that you’re trying to get to grips with a community that’s been downtrodden for the last year, and you’re re-galvanising what’s left, and that’s all very cool. But may i strongly, and humbly suggest, that BBpress to made to work as a forum and then we go about adding things?

    I know that could sound a little condescending, but 0.9 had loads of plugins (they were horribly organised but they existed), and infact development of plugins and functionality for BBpress only started to slow down once the 1.0.3a debacle kicked off. Without getting all historical out of the 10 features you’ve asked us to vote for on the Poll, 8 of them existed and were working in a stable plugin for 0.9.

    The realism is, BBpress has been a moving target for way too long and while its really great that you’re stepping in (and it is – thank you) there were 9 months of sheer Project Management craziness that have scared alot of Plugin Developers away.

    Please, before you go adding any crazy “the public have spoken and they want …” features, how about getting a Project Plan, a Trac with actual data (and not a Trac that’s 4-5 months out of date as you’re trying to release software you’ve decided not to beta test, even though the last alpha had a huge number of bugs), and give us a platform to once again build upon.

    Many Thanks,

    Kevinjohn

    I voted for integration because, damn it, it COULD be so much easier and looking at all those posts about how it doesn’t work, and all the different solutions.

    After that it would be Facebook (which I want for WP in general – Never got it working right…) and that’s it. The rest I don’t have much of an opinion on.

    I voted for anonymous posting. Offering both registered and non-registered options to interact in the forum seems a logical addition to the core platform.

    WP integration should be a given (better cookies and clear instructions), and my other option for the sake of new users.

    1.1 Feature Poll

    Matt has made a feature poll on what is most important for you to see in bbpress 1.1, so get on there and vote. If you want to tell why you voted that, feel free to tell here!

    #82063

    I just installed and tried the plugin on my local test forum (1.0.2) and it works just fine.

    Select to show the poll on new topic, first fill out the poll questions, then write your post and submit. The poll appears automatically when the topic is started (no need for a “save” button under the poll creation field).

    Guests can read the poll (if so selected), but not vote. Only members.

    I tried both with ajax enabled or disabled. And single vote or test mode with multiple votes. The issues could be a plugin conflict.

    Didnt work to vote. It’s a bit vague right now, deleted it ages ago, but I tried everything and it did not work.

    I think it took a while for WordPress to get where it is today, including video tutorials at wordpress.tv – bbPress is not there yet. WordPress 1.0 was January 2004, and the first video tutorial on wordpress.tv was posted January 2009. bbPress 1.0 was released June 2009. I think there is a lot more development to be done with bbPress before resources would ever be devoted to anything like bbpress.tv (which is not registered ATM.)

    Since Sam stepped down as bbPress lead a short while ago, we haven’t heard who will be replacing him (or how many resources Automattic will devote to the product). Hopefully we’ll get an update sooner rather than later!

    I’m just wondering where it is heading? How do all the requests from users get priority? Do we need to vote on directions, or is there a top-down vision from Automattic? How seriously is a “Portal” approach with WP being considered? (Like SMF & TinyPortal, with latest posts showing on the front page of a WP blog, tighter integration, etc)?

    is there a blog I should be reading for the future of BBpress? Cheers.

    Gautam: How would I do that?

    ck: Alright, as of now, I’m running the modified kakumei theme from my bb-templates folder. I have a backup of the original files in the my-templates folder. Are there any potential issues I need to be aware of before proceeding like this?

    I suppose I’ll devote more time to solving this after I’ve customised this theme to my liking and can apply it to another.

    An other question… how to make bb_rating_dingus() working just once for a precise IP…?

    I mean that a Member can just vote once…

    Good day,

    I am working on a review site built using WordPress/bbPress and am in need of a ratings module. I’ve looked all over but as it turns out what I really want is something that bbpress uses when you go to a plugins page. An example of such a page is below (picked at random):

    http://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/best-answer/

    On the right sidebar there is brief information along with an average rating and the ability to allow the user to vote (and adjust it in the future). What’s more is that users are able to post their reviews within the same page which is perfect for what I need.

    I’m using bbPress in conjuction with WordPress for my site, and since the logins database is used between them a plugin solution can be for either bbPress or WordPress.

    Is such a plugin available, and if so where may I find it?

    Thanks for your help.

    I would love to do it, although I’m a novice coder at best and don’t have time at this point to devote to it. But if anyone’s interested in doing, I offer it as a “free” idea. My meager contribution ;) . Who knows, maybe I’ll do it if I still like the idea in a year or two.

    I created a new forum dedicated to home theater networks at HTNforum.com. It lets users ask questions and comment on how to set up a home theater network and different devices such as HDTVs, HTPCs, speakers, receivers, Blu-ray, game consoles, amps, home networking, home automation and more.

    I have a WordPress site that goes along with HTNforum at YourHTN.com and it’s designed to let people post pictures and talk about their home theater networks. I made it so users can vote and rank each other’s home theaters.  I found wordpress to not be the best tool for asking and answering questions so BBpress was perfect as it let me add a forum without my hundreds of users having to create a new account.

    My forum site has been up for a few weeks now and I haven’t noticed any major bugs. I would appreciate any comments/suggestions on how to improve the forum. Thanks and keep up the good work with BBpress!

    this is not a bad idea at all.. i vote for this

    but the message would need to be stored somehow, even if the user is not registered or logged in, and then submitted for display once the user registers or logs in.

    Hi John – thanks for the code. I copied it exactly & pasted it into my topic.php (except for the styles) but it still didn’t work for me, so I removed the requirement to log in to vote, with still no luck. Hovering changes the stars color, but clicking does nothing at all.

    Do you think it’s likely that there’s a conflict with another plugin that might be causing it to not work? I’m using the following plugins (in addition to bbRatings):

    Akismet

    Bozo Users

    BBCode lite

    BBCode buttons toolbar

    BBPress signatures

    BBPress smilies

    Topics Per Page

    bbPress tweaks

    Human test for bbPress

    Moderator new post notification

    The only one I think I could do without is the smilies, but I really want to keep the others more than the ratings if I can’t figure out how to get it working……P.S. Two days since I posted on mdawaffe’s blog and still no response…..I just get the impression that he doesn’t want to support this any more……

    Here’s the code from my topic page template – hope it helps!

    <div style=”width:400px”>

    <div style=”float:left”>Average Rating:</div>

    <?php bb_rating(); ?>

    <div style=”float:left”> Your Rating: </div>

    <?php if (bb_is_user_logged_in()) :?>

    <?php bb_rating_dingus(); ?>

    <?php else : ?>

    You must log in to vote.

    <?php endif; ?>

    <br clear=”all”/>

    <?php bb_rating_count($topic->topic_id); ?>

    </div>
