    We’ve done a little tutorial video to show how you can setup either a BuddyPress Group Forum, a SiteWide bbPress 2.0 Forum, or a custom hybrid forum page using shortcodes. You can have all three at one time. Hope this helps ;-)

    You can keep the previous forums, but the data from BuddyPress group forums does not migrate automatically into bbPress site wide forums.

    Cheers!

    I’m trying to migrate from Buddypress to sitewide bbpress too. Any ideas how to make this happen?

    Basically I have already been using Buddypress with its built in groups+forums, but I find a sitewide bbpress forum is better. I would like to keep all the previous discussions in Buddypress forums. Any help is much appreciated…

    Ok just like I thought (yes I’m not smarter than a fifth grader and I should have checked this first) it’s a plugin [Simple Facebook Connect] that is causing my forum page to show the last topic post instead of the page with my short codes.

    I know it’s not your problem but I thought you would want to know about it in case it comes up again.

    I’m sending Otto a not that it is causing a problem with your plugin.. I’m going to activate it and see if I can find something else that will do the same thing but not conflict with yours..

    Thanks for a really great plugin… :-)

    Hi JJJ, I have an issue with my forum and I don’t see anything in the community (I may be searching for the wrong thing)

    My forum is http://jeff-foliage.com/fall-foliage-forum/ and I think it did great last season.

    Somebody asked me what shortcodes I used and when I went to the page in the dashboard it will only serve me the last created forum topic.

    So if under pages I click the page for the forum to view the codes it returns this http://jeff-foliage.com/wp-admin/post.php?post=735&action=edit (I hope I can’t be hacked by giving this out…

    This is a forum post topic that I created last year. If I trash this post it will return the next newest post topic for the forum.

    Can you or someone tell me if there is a simple solution? Is this most likely a plugin problem? (I know most are and I suppose I could go through and deactivate them and see if at any point see the page)

    Or is this a pure database problem, thoughts?

    Oh I’m getting nice comments about how mine looks and I don’t know if my forum looks all that great since I’m in compatibility mode using Weaver theme. But folks seem confused and feel I’ve done great pimping on the CSS when it’s all the theme for colors and what it looks like.

    You are using 2.1, which is good.

    What you need to do is tweak the CSS, I don’t recommend editing core, I would use this instead https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress-custom-css-file/

    bbpress.css, line 48 is what you need to change, ie

    #bbpress-forums .status-closed, #bbpress-forums .status-closed a {
    color: #CCC;
    }

    If you are using bbPress 2.x, bbPress stuff does not get put in the primary RSS feed by default. If it is then I would check and see if maybe a plugin is screwing something up.

    If you are using bbPress 2.x it has widgets that are packed with it out-of-the-box that provide these functions.

    I was going to use the psudo class :before to add a little image next to the links of forums that had subforums in them, but then I realized that bbpress doesn’t add any specific class to these forum links.

    Is there a way to add a class to just the forums that have subforums in them so that I can add this little image to those links?

    Hi Sharq219,

    Before I post, I must say, I am no code-maestro rather a novice at it all. However this is what I did –

    In FTP Panel,

    • Followed this page – %Root Folder of the website in question%wp-contentpluginsbbpressbbp-themesbbp-twentytencss

    • Edited the file bbpress.css (attached the edited version)

    • You’ll notice in top few lines and bottom few lines I changed the background colour hexademical code from #efefef to #0B0808

    • Be careful though, do not change it at all places. I practically changed one place at a time and saved and refreshed to check until I got the results. Best to compare the file I am sending you with your file and see if you can relate & make changes in right places.

    • I suggest to start from the bottom up in the file, you are likely to see it resolve in the end.

    Here is the code of the file I edited – – –

    You can change the size of the avatar in bbpress in bp-reply-template.php on line 953. However, you will run into the same problem as I have. Even if you make it 150px it will still pull the thumb image which is 50px resulting in a fuzzy avatar. If you change the size of the thumb image to 150px your avatars in Buddypress will not look good. Solution? Make bbpress pull the BP_AVATAR_FULL instead of BP_AVATAR_THUMB. But how?

    HI,

    I am having the same problem as this guy here http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/changing-the-url-of-breadcrumbs:

    I am running bbpress 2.0.2 under BuddyPress and although my permalinks are nice and pretty :

    Code:
    /%category%/%postname%/

    The breadcrumbs look like this:

    Home > Foodies’ Place > Forums

    The “Foodies’ Place” link is wrong and it links to here

    http://www.foodiesplace.com/?attachment_id=431

    (no idea where it got this from since the page does not exist)

    The breadcrumb link should look like this:

    Home > FaceCook Forum > Forums

    and “FaceCook Forum” schould link to:

    http://www.foodiesplace.com/en/facecook-forum/

    Any ideas anybody?

    Thanx

    To change BuddyPress avatars use_

    define ( 'BP_AVATAR_THUMB_WIDTH', 50 );
    define ( 'BP_AVATAR_THUMB_HEIGHT', 50 );
    define ( 'BP_AVATAR_FULL_WIDTH', 150 );
    define ( 'BP_AVATAR_FULL_HEIGHT', 150 );

    you can define custom sizes for your BP avatar, replace 50 or 150 with the size in pixel you want

    I’m trying to replace the size of the default bbPress forums avatar from 80 to 150px to match my BP_AVATAR_FULL size… bbPress 2.1 plugin is using 80by80px avatars by default apparently, do you know where to change that value to match 150px?

    I hope so

    anyway as an alternative solution I wouldn’t mind know how to display the simple date of publishing, it’s fine

    Hi all, I am moving my website and forums into WordPress & bbPress from Joomla and Invision Power Board.

    Today, I converted the forums… Everything is working fine except that the posts are markedup in HTML i.e… BR’s and Hrefs. But the HTML is not rendering. This is a problem as I have about 85k posts on the forum. So, they all look like crap at the moment.

    Is there a a way I can allow all posts to render HTML?

    the beta site WordPress/bbPress install is here: http://beta.friendsoffoamy.com/forum

    the original IPB install is located here: http://friendsoffoamy.com/forum

    Any help would be appreciated.

    With the BBPress plugin, the normal WordPress RSS feed becomes a huge list of forum topics and replies.

    I know that you can alter your RSS feed with a post_type parameter, but what about people who are already subscribed to the /feed RSS feed URL? Is there a way to alter the output of the main RSS feed to avoid spamming them with every reply on the site?

    I’m pretty sure this is an extremely rare but known bug. Let me see if I can get jjj’s 2 cents on this. Stand by!

    well it’s not even showing in the chrome inspector, so that’s not going to help, all I know is this is what I have in my stylesheet in my theme folder and it’s not seeing it…

    #bbpress-forums ul.topic.status-closed {

    background: url(../images/forum-topic-closed.png) #ffd2d2;

    }

    hi,

    i am new to bbPress, and now playing with it in localhost.

    i found the topic and reply etc’s permalink get the {post_name} in it, and i just want to change it to the {post_id}, i searched a lot, but not found any good solution.

    maybe someone here could give me some advices?

    thx,

    I have recently transfered old bbpress 1.x standalone forums to the new bbpress 2.1 plugin platform

    The moving was fine and I got back all my old forums.

    However there’s something odd concerning the “freshness” of forums and discussions.

    Normally freshness would display things like

    Posted $years ago, or $months ago, or $days ago… and if very recent, hours, minutes, etc.

    In my case, very old posts appear in the format “posted 674 days ago” or “posted 374 days ago” which is really not nice way to display

    I’d like to display freshness as it was with 1.x forums. “Posted 1 year ago”, “posted 2 years ago”, that is. Alternatively I wouldn’t mind to get rid of freshness and replace it with standard last updated time (last updated on 2nd December 2009)

    I’m running a localised version of WordPress (IT_it), however other dates are fine with other post types.

    Okay, so I guess I CAN change my permalinks, they are just not working with bbpress. I’m no longer getting a 404 error, but I am getting my site with just a blank template. What can I do???

    I wrote a thread earlier stating that I accidently deleted my forum. Well, turns out it wasn’t showing up because I changed the permalinks via wordpress. I’m assuming it just has something to do with bbpress because every other tab works fine when I change the permalinks, only my bbpress forum is no longer to be found. Anything I can do???

    Do I change that in the bbpress .css or my theme stylesheet?

    Hey guys. I have very limited web knowledge so bear with me haha. My problem is that the bbpress forum looks good in Safari but in Firefox it is aligned in the center and overlapping the sidebar as seen here: http://guitartipstricks.com/forum

    Is there any way to fix this? Thanks
