What version bbPress? Are you integrated? If so, what version of WordPress?

The development version of Bavatars has untested compatibility with deep integration. Use it at your own risk, though.

    Hello,

I followed this guide http://www.cssjockey.com/wordpress/deep-integrating-wordpress-271-and-bbpress-0904 (which is very helpful for a beginner) and now have bbPress integrated with WordPress.

What I want to do now is let users upload their own avatar which will appear with their posts/profiles in the forum but also with any comments/profile on the wordpress side.

There seem to be various standalone avatar plug-ins for wordpress and bbpress but is there anything which is compatible with both systems?

I’d rather not use Gravatars if at all possible so user’s don’t have to rely or register on an external site.

Any help, suggestions or pointers would be appreciated.

    bbPress 1.0-Alpha-6 and Wp 2.7

If “it’s easier to integrate with WordPress if you install bbPress in the same database as WordPress” They why does the installer not advise you of that during the config process? I’ve gotten to the same headache. There is no variable in wp-config called “SECRET_KEY”. There are however, “AUTH_KEY” “SECURE_AUTH_KEY” “LOGGED_IN_KEY” “NONCE_KEY”…

Actually, BuddyPress uses bbPress, so it could be argued that bbPress is a modification for BuddyPress.

BuddyPress is a modification for WordPress MU.

As if this guy’s problem isn’t bad enough, I’ve been through the install for the fourth time and when I try to go to the forum, at http://www.noseyparkernews.com/bb2/ I am always returned to the ‘Yada, yada, let’s get started’ page. I click on that button, and I get several hundred instances of this:

Warning: cannot yet handle MBCS in html_entity_decode()! in /homepages/19/d271430659/htdocs/Nosey/bb2/bb-includes/wp-functions.php on line 113

until it gets tired, and asks me to stop or continue the script. All the correct information is in bb-config.php, and the first step of the installation confirms that that is true.

I’m using WordPress 2.7.1, with a standard, off the shelf theme.

plop, are you using integration? If so, what versions of bbPress and WordPress are you using, and what are their URLs?

I still didn’t find a way to resolve this, it’s really weird.

I can access to the bbpress functions on my wp template now with no problem, but my wp admin section is still “broken” (no css, no jquery)

    It’s on localhost unfortunately :/

    Have you asked Godaddy?

Also, Google returned quite a few results, but I am not certain exactly where you are seeing this problem to know what results are relevant.

And finally, is this a WordPress or bbPress problem?

Please post a link to your site and someone should be able to help.

I think you have to add it at the bottom of your wp-config file.

    Hi everyone,

I just integrated bbpress functions on my wp by adding :

    require_once(‘path/to/wp-blog-header.php’);

It works, but now the CSS is broken on my Wp admin, and also the jQuery.

Is there a way to fix it ?

    Many thanks.

I’ve got wordpress running on a windows server through Godaddy. I’m having problems with wordpress using a local host full path as “D:Hosting4218749htmlwp-contentcache/ ?” when it should be “http://www……..htmlwp-contentcache”.

How do I go about changing the path to my server URL on Godaddy’s Windows server ?

I’ve reinstalled mySQL and wordpress over with no effect.

Any help would be greatly appreciated…

As long as they all point to the same user table and usermeta table, you can share the login across as many domains as you’d like, the cookies simply won’t be sync’d (however I have a plugin coming out soon that will share cookies across domains, but it’s not meant for wpmu, just regular wp/bbpress).

Database secret is covered near the start of this topic, it’s hidden in your bb/wp admin menus.

Nightgunner5 is right – you shouldn’t install them in the same directory. You have two real options if you’re using the same server for both:

    1) install the blog in the root and the forum in a subfolders

    2) install them both in separate subfolders

There’s a good explanation on why this all matters here:

    https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/wordpress-and-bbpress-integration-101#post-17412

Personally, I use a separate subdomain for each bbpress install… so I guess that’s yet another option. :-)

    Good luck!

Don’t install it in the same directory – Try WORDPRESS DIRECTORY/forums.

Should I install bbpress in the same directory as wordpress (I’m planning to integrate them somewhat). Or does it matter at all?

Looking good Nightgunner5, and great to see you back.

While possibly a little self serving, i’d strongly suggest doing our upmost to make this plugin work for 0.9 for a number of reasons:

    1) 0.9 is officially the stable branch and has been for over 9 months now.

    2) 1.0.6alpha is nowhere near being the beta.

    3) The next alpha is going to break alot of functions and plugins, to the point that _ck_ has already stated she’s not going to fix her plugins from 1.0.7a -> 1RC1 at the earliest. Aiming this code for 1.0.6a, is probably going to give you more work in the long run.

    4) I know that Sam has posted on the blog that the proposed function changes might not happen now, but there’s still alot of open tickets out there; and alot of works been done on BBpress since 1.0.6a alpha in January. Add in to that all the work done for “talkpress”, and there’s no way the next version is goin to be near RC1 level.

    5) WordPress 2.8 is coming with a new authentication system (yes new to 2.5 and 2.6/2.7’s authentication system), so even if we do get a new release of BBpress at the same time, there’s a whole bunch of coding to be done and tested as an alpha – let alone having the 1.0.beta released at the same time.

Either way, and with the best will in the world, 0.9 is going to be the “stable” release of BBpress for at least the summer. Today’s the 2nd of May, and we’ve not seen an update to 1.0.6a. If 1.0.7 is released on Monday, we’ll have at least 4 weeks of user reports and bug fixes before the next release. If that’s the beta and not not another alpha release, then we’ll have a few weeks of testing/fixing before an RC, and then at least a week before the final release.

Obviously it’s GREAT that you’re building this plugin, and from what i’ve read – it looks ace ( I’m about to install at home in a few minutes), but given the very changeable nature of alpha’s, it’s probably wise to focus more on 0.9 computability; and then making a version1 port when it’s in beta or release candidate. Just my two cents mate.

Other than changing and deleting their own username, those are all great ideas! Changing usernames messes up lots of code, and deleting your own account?!

The Role Manager has been submitted to the bbPress Plugin Repository – in some future version, it will have 0.9 compatibility (if 1.0 isn’t released first).

The BuddyPress PM plugin is for WordPress MU, not bbPress, so you’d be switching over from a forum to a blog hosting social network. The existing PM plugin probably needs to be scrapped — it would be easier to start over (for me, at least), but importing the old data would help everyone that had Private Messaging installed.

The avatars plugin (in my opinion) is doing the right thing the wrong way. By making the plugin a “real plugin” (no editing core files, no putting files into other directories) and splitting the avatars into separate folders, the plugin would be a lot better.

As for resetting passwords, or for that matter, the entire password system of bbPress as a whole, the idea is already being discussed.

In reply to: AJAX Spell Checker

Given that most modern browsers have built in check of some sort (except maybe IE, I’d have to use it to know…), it’s probably best that it not be a part of the app and more than it is for WordPress. I’m sure someone could make a plugin.

I am having the same problem but I don’t see $bb->uri in my config file, I see it in my bb-settings file. Do I change it there in my bb-settings file as it is not in the config file. If I need to add it to my bb-config file where do i put it, anywhere? What effect will this have on my database in the fourm? as I believe the database is shared with wordpress so will it effect the content on the wordpress side?
