bbpress 2.0 was working pretty well until i installed buddypress 1.5 (test site) and now, instead of the old bbpress profiles (w favorites!), there is the buddypress profile, which is nice, except… the problem i’m having is that as far as i can tell the forum (bbpress 2.0) topic favorites are not showing up in the buddypress profile under favorites or anywhere else that i can see.

i’ve googled around and found other mentions of conflicting profile issues, but so far no definitive answers as to how bbpress and buddypress profiles are supposed to work together.

maybe i’m missing something? i haven’t tried using buddypress before. are the user bbpress 2.0 forum topic favorites available in buddypress somewhere and i’m just not seeing them?

or do the bbpress 2.0. forum topic favorites go missing when buddypress is installed? if that the case, is there a work around?

Hello all,

I am trying to setup bbpress on my test site. I want to replace Simple forum.

I followed BJ’s walkthrough and got it showing on the “forums” page.

From admin interface i created couple of forums, and couple of topics.

I can see the forums on http://www.8ball.lu/wordpress/forums

But when i click on any forum name i get a “page not found” error.

What am i doing wrong?

My parent theme is a custom theme created with Themeframe (im astill working on it, and currently i have only changed the menu). I did not touch yet the default templates.

Not exactly what I planned on doing today whilst sitting in the back of a car! Though whilst browsing these forums I bumbed into this thread and have kicked it off on my iPad with a bbPress test site importing from 30,000 post PHPBB site, been running now for around 30 minutes.

I’ll add some follow ups on how the data Looks in bbPress when I have the right tools

EDIT: ~90 minutes after above

After ~60 minutes I have stopped it and had a look at the WordPress tables with myphpadmin and I cannot see any new posts in ‘wp_posts’ or ‘wp_users’

Is the ‘PhpBB_Not_Complete’ import tool active? i.e. Should I see more than nothing, nil, null as a result of trying this?

I installed bbPress via the WordPress Plugins tab and I have copied the template files to my custom theme and customized them (basicly just removed the sidebar) and added the add_theme_support( 'bbpress' ); line in functions.php.

It’s like the topics are set to hidden.

I have checked and double checked that the publish status is set to published. What do?

Bugs/inconsistencies:

– “Assign topic to” appears on all forums. That’s okay I guess, but should be an option, not mandatory.

– If a “Resolved” or “Urgent” topic is moved to a non-support forum, the prefix will stay, but there’s no way of removing it as the extra controls don’t exist in this forum. When moving support topics to non-support forums, I would suggest stripping away all extra features entirely.

I seem to remember the first time I did it the process was clean, but in all my last attempts I’ve received this error when moving a topic out of the troubleshooting board:

I took it for a spin, and here’s my feedback thus far:

A lot of functionality should be in its own plugins.

– Move forum:

I’m surprised this isn’t in core already; I thought it was. In any case, this would make much more sense as a stand-alone plugin, as its useful for all topics, not just support topics.

– Forum Ranks:

As far as I can tell, it doesn’t tie directly in with support topics; it’s a completely separate feature. Maybe you have plans for it, but if that’s the case I still think you should just have two plugins communicate, as this is something many support forums won’t need. I personally dislike forum ranks. I consider it unwarranted labeling. On the jMonkeyEngine forum we frequently see first time posters with 10+ years of Java experience, which is the type of experience that holds weight in our community, not # of forum posts.

– Please separate your settings from bbPress’ options page. Your plugin offers so many options (which by itself is great) that it ends up bloating the options page.

– I think the default setting should reflect the one in this screenshot:

That part slipped by me in the settings screen, and when I tested the plugin I was puzzled by how I couldn’t change my test support topic to “resolved”.

– What about a widget for the resolved/not resolved drop-down? (Same goes for Assign topic, and possibly some others I haven’t noticed yet). This would make it easier to fit it in with custom themes. This also means admin should have the option to turn off the in-built drop-down.

Oh and as recommended, add the bbpress tag to your plugin. It’s the default bbPress plugin tag, and currently the most convenient way of keeping up with the latest bbPress 2 plugins.

There seems to be some duplication of pages. If you are a WordPress Author, and you have an account on the forum, then you get two pages listing your details. It would be great if there was some way of combining the two.

In the WordPress admin I am getting an error saving forum settings.

with the small details that still need to be worked out, I think we’d better wait till a 2.1 release to actually mention it. a fair amount of people are still a little confused as to where the forums are installed to, how to administrate them, and most importantly, how to integrate their themes into the new bbpress. I’d say after those three major things are mentioned in the install instructions and made a bit clearer / automated, then it’s time to invite the masses

are you attempting to use two different themes for your site? one for the wordpress install and one for the bbpress? in my own installations, I didn’t copy or move any templates around at all, and just installed bbpress and it worked with the template that I was using for my main site…

Same problem, I’m using the BBpress 2.0 plugin with WordPress and cannot get the BB language file to be implemented.

I used define(‘BBLANG’, ‘hethen’); in wp-config and also placed the .mo file in wp-content/languages and in bbpress/bbp-languages/

Modify the <input> tags such that they’re type="hidden". Also make the value="Anonymous" for name and something like value="anonymous@example.com" for email.

Judging from some posts I have seen (correct me if I am wrong), there is no built in way of having bbPress (2.0) made searchable using the standard WordPress search box and having both sets of results combined into one set, and if there is, it is buggy at best. Services such as Google Custom Search have been suggested as alternatives, but would that mean that all posts are searchable using spiders? I mean, would using a service such as Freefind give me practically accurate results, depending on when each crawl was made? Or is there a way to have relatively realtime results just using the standard WordPress search box? I’d much rather have native (even plugin based) search on my site instead of a spider based search engine, but beggars can’t be choosers and all.

You know what I am talking about and why right? We have WordPress setup to only allow comments and posts by registered users. But then one of those users turns rogue. The user starts posting crap after crap and you want it to stop. You could just delete their account, and then they will reregister and continue. How can we get this to stop? Don’t delete them, but instead block him/her? Ban him/her? Block/ban by what? Email, IP, username? What is the best way to do this in WordPress? A plugin? I’ve tried a few but they don’t seem to do anything. Anyone have any recommendations?

I have now searched the internet (yes all of it I think) and it seems there is a lot of confusion about bbpress and how to change languages.

Has anyone got this to work in version 2.0 (Plugin) ?

Here is what I have tried so far :

1: mo and po files uploaded to /wp-content/plugins/bbpress/bbp-languages

2: Looked in and edited a lot of php files.

3. Checked nearly every file in my themes folder (Suffusion).

4. Have been in discussion with Suffusion theme forum.

None of the above has helped in any way

My wordpress is showing the correct language, which is great. A major problem is the Forum is not. I currently have the site offline for now. But it should be up again before the start of next week (well thats what I have told the users)

I’m thinking I’m pretty happy that I found bbPress. I’d appreciate someone chiming in on the following use case for bbPress. Is the following possible?

I’d like to completely prevent a user from registering in bbPress. I want the WordPress User database to control roles and capabilities inside bbPress. In fact, I don’t want users to be able to register in WordPress either. No, it won’t be any empty forum (hampers discussion) because all of the users will be added and updated via an integration between an external customer system and the WordPress user database.

Here’s the perfect scenario for our client.

In the external customer system a subset of customers, lets say 10 of them get a role and custom capability called “Review Committee”. The integration between the customer system and WordPress User database insures the 10 customers on the committee are in the WP User database with the “Review Committee” capability. In bbPress, we’d like the Review Committee to have a private discussion space/thread (sorry, I’m not familiar with the correct bbPress term), controlled by the user capability the 10 individuals have where only the 10 of them with the “Review Committee” capability can participate in their discussion, share documents, etc. For our client, subsets of their customer base like the “Review Committee” example outlined above will come and go but all will need a private space in bbPress to conduct their business.

So, will this work?

I ended up going an entirely different route in order to get forum specific sidebars on the pages. JJ’s answer would have been the easiest to achieve by using widget context, but I wanted full control.

Very long story short…

I started by registering a custom sidebar just for the forums.

I then took all of the bbpress templates and rewrite them from scratch to include my custom code and forum sidebar.

*Keep in mind that bbPress templates are nothing more than WordPress templates, so all rules that you follow when building a custom theme also apply to bbPress. Trying to explain how to build custom templates is WAY outside the scope of what I can provide. There are numerous tutorials all over the internet to get you started.

**If you are not comfortable writing template code, then widget context is definitely the way to go.

1. I just want to be sure we’re both referring to the forum options at /wp-admin/options-general.php?page=bbpress. Forum (and WP) roles have to be set by editing a user profile (/wp-admin/users.php). I believe there are plugins that add functionality, but I haven’t used any of them so I can’t give a recommendation. The would be in the WP plugin repository at wordpress.org/extend/plugins.

2. This isn’t an area I’m strong at, but you’d have to edit either the themes files or the css.

So I’m brand new to WordPress and old hat to programming. I’m trying to piece together a word press site for a friend that he can easily manager and expand. I’ve got most everything up and running with buddy press now save for the forums (without actually having to touch code, craziness!) . My issue is with the forums (I’ve installed the site wide variant).

The issue I’m running into is that the individual forums seem to be rendering as a page and not getting the specific forum templates added to them. I’m using the custom community theme, but this problem is repeatable if i switch to the base buddy press theme. This problem is not present if i switch to the bbpress theme. Each forum listing shows up only showing the forums tagline as if it was page data. I had to do a bit of hackery to get the forum to render at all (deleted the forum page and made a link to /forums in the menu).
