First off I’m very new to wordpress, so I am sure it is user error.
I’m trying to create a forum for our boyscout site and installed bbpress tried to create forums but the index page looks totally broken only partially shows one of five forums. The page is here:
I’m not sure why the text is all smashed together and no indexes shown. WordPress version is 3.7.1
Any help is appreciated.
Edit: Link removed
I have the BBpress 2.4.1 plugin installed on http://www.thefilthyfew.nl with the Gamefun theme, but it is not displaying properly. I found out that the theme is to blame, because when i change it to the simple twenty thirteen theme, it works like a charm.
I still have to style it so it’s white now in stead of black, but never mind that for now. The thing that is going wrong: when i click on a forum, for example ‘Main forum’, (which already has 1 topic and 2 posts in it) nothing displays. No topics, no formfields to post anything, only the title ‘Main forum’ is displayed.
Please help me, i’ve been struggling with this for a really long time now š !
I’m using WordPress 3.7.1
Try this one, I haven’t used it, but seems to cover what you want
https://wordpress.org/plugins/membership/
I installed a bbPress forum on my WordPress blog as a trial, set up a couple of trial forums, then didn’t work on it for a week or two. In that time, that trial forum, with no links from anywhere, received more than 500 spam registrations. Obviously I’m not happy with that, for although the spambots were prevented from posting (mostly), it was still a pain removing all the requests.
On my WordPress blog, I use WP Captcha-Free plugin to stop spam, and it works really well. One of the attractions of installing a forum within WordPress was using this plugin on the forum as well. But it doesn’t seem to apply to bbPress.
Does anyone know if there is any way to make this WP plugin work in bbPress, or is that a silly question?
Thanks.
Is there anything I can do to help?
@Stephen Thanks. I have moved to the forum to sub-folder for the time being.
donāt give up, Iām pretty sure if you find the conflicting topics and delete them the import WILL work just fine, I know itās not perfect, but I think it is worth it.
@manuxel Thanks. I will look into it again once I finish setting up the main WordPress site.
I’ve installed bbPress on a local installation, under port 8080 to avoid a conflict with another program using port 80. It appears to work just fine from the WordPress Dashboard, but I can’t do anything in the front end – I keep getting ERROR: Are you sure you wanted to do that?
I’ve spent the last hour on Google, reddit, this forum, various blogs… nothing seems to help.
Can someone explain how to fix this, please? I posted the same question last week and got zero response.
This installation is staying on a local machine, so it isn’t as though all my problems will soon be solved. I’m never uploading to a normal hosting server.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thank you!

I wanted the same thing, so I built it…
Have fun —
I have created two categories with forums beneath the categories. However the forum root does not display any of this. I am only able to go to each category by the direct link. Forum link is
https://birdseyeminecraft.us/wordpress/wordpress
This is still in development so excuse the sloppiness of it. Are categories in a different root the then the default one? if so where can i find it?
Hi,
I have a similar problem except that I don’t want a sidebar to appear at all.
This is the index page for the forum:
http://www.chmaonline.com/forums/
And this is the actual forum page:
http://www.chmaonline.com/forums/forum/chma-members-bulletin-board/
Within WordPress I can only find the one page in the Pages area of the dashboard, and that is the index page. There I have told it to have a template which is Full Width No Sidebar, but that makes no difference. I am using the Responsive Theme by ThemeID. I can’t figure out where the page is that has the actual forum posts on it, I guess it is being generated somewhere behind the scenes. (I tried the Widget Logic plugin but I don’t know how to make the WP filters they are talking about.)
Any help you can provide would be wonderful!
Thanks,
Jane
I had exactly the same problem as you did.
I wanted an easy way to update the email that new users receive.
After learning that the emails are not sent through bbPress, and instead through wordpress, it was easy to find a better mail plugin that would do exactly what I wanted. I found WP Better Emails.
It is an HTML (or text) based email plugin that looks much more professional than the usual text based message that WordPress sends out.
Now, my new users receive a nice little message with links to specific forums:
Introduce yourself, Popular Posts, and Forum Rules.
You can see how I use it by visiting my forums and signing up. I’ll delete you after a few days if you let me know.
Nothing to thank me for, after a couple years wanting this import script, I’m more than glad to help, I just want to see it work for as much people as possible. I tried everything this past 4 or 5 years I think to combine my forum with my wordpress, I didn’t want a blog nor I wanted just a forum, and thanks to you and bbPress I’m so close to finally have what I wanted.
And thank you for that link, I was testing with 100 rows per second, I’m not on a dedi, but in my little VPS I think I could at least try 500 every 0.2 or something close.
Cheers and good night š

Hi! I noticed that BBPress profile does not include several fields of the core WordPress profile. Is there any way to include them? It is very important for my website, because others plugins need those fields to work properly. Notice that I donĀ“t need to create “custom fields”, but to include the core WordPress fields.
yes, there’s a plugin that does this for you
https://wordpress.org/plugins/bbpress-notify/
Haven’t used it yet, let us know if it works for you
ok, I can see your problem
Not sure why the plugin isn’t picking this up – would be worth a post on the authors support site
http://veppa.com/blog/forums/
However lets also try a different approach.
Download “widget logic”
https://wordpress.org/plugins/widget-logic/
This plugin lets you specify conditions for when widget items are displayed.
You would then put all the widgets for both the blog page and the forum page in one sidebar
Against each of these you then specify whether you want it to appear on the forum page, on any page with a sidebar that is not the forum 9ie your blog), or on both forum and other sidebar pages.
you do this by putting the following code in the widget logoc box that you will see appears against each widget
For a forum sidebar you put : is_bbpress() ie is this page a forum page
For any other sidebar you put : !is_bbpress() ie is this page NOT a forum page
For any item to appear on both, simply leave the logic blank.
Give that a try and come back and let us know how it works

Hello,
As part of a project for a forum in French which will be online soon, I completed the translation in French of bbPress and I improved (at least I hope) many strings already translated so that they are more true to the original english meaning and context.
I’m entering the translations one by one on translate.wordpress.org/projects/bbpress/2.4.x/fr/default and I would like to discuss with the french translation team about a number of aspects of the project, eg nomenclature, accents, etc.
Thank you and good day.
Hi
I am experiencing the same problem with WordPress 3.7.1 and bbpress 2.4.1. New installations, but can’t activate the plugin. It says ‘You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.’
Hi all,
for me is the following problem in the activation of bbPress 2.4.1:
Warning: Missing argument 1 for WP_User::__construct(), called in *⦠/wp-content/plugins/bbpress/bbpress.php on line 263 and defined in *…/wp-includes/capabilities.php on line 473
Warning: Missing argument 1 for WP_User::__construct(), called in *⦠/wp-content/plugins/bbpress/bbpress.php on line 264 and defined in *⦠/wp-includes/capabilities.php on line 473
Fatal error: Call to undefined function is_user_member_of_blog() in *⦠/wp-content/plugins/bbpress/includes/core/update.php on line 348
*… = The path I have hidden for safety reasons
On the website WordPress 3.7.1 is used. The website has an internal area. Here are pages only visible when a user has logged in. The goal of mine is to make bbPress run inside the internal area.
Reach that goal, I use on this time following plugins:
WP-Members 2.7.3 from Chad Butler
Members Only Menu Plugin 2.0 from Brandon Wamboldt
so far everything is stable, only now, after the installation of bbPress there is this error in the activation.
Please can any one help me with this problem?
I unfortunately am not familiar with PHP functions.
There is something strange going on here.
I suggest you delete the bbPress plugin from the plugins section of your WordPress install.
Verify that Jetpack is working correctly.
Now download bbPress and install it again. https://wordpress.org/plugins/bbpress/
By script I meant the file SMF.3.PHP found attached in THIS TICKET as written in the first post of this topic.
You download it an then upload it to your site in this path
/bbpress/includes/admin/converters/
Should be in the plugins folder
Then follow the instructions in the link from my other post.
Hope that helps
Thank you for the hints but in my case, I have the bbpress as plugin in WordPress.
How do I approach it? Thanks.
When I have the plugin ābbPressā activated I get this video (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDAp8M7CuPk) included in the slideshow on every product page as well as a blank image and a pop up message that reads āThe page at http://www.curioclayworks says: Image cannot be loaded. Make sure the patch is correct and the image existā. When the plugin is deactivated (which it is right now) the video disappears and I only have the blank image with the pop up. Iād like to only have the images I select to be in the slideshow on each product page and I certainly donāt want an install video to be apart of that slideshow. When I disable the bbPress plugin I lose functionality of the āJetpack WordPress.com Stats: Put a chart showing 48 hours of views in the admin barā which Iād like to keep and Iād like the functionality of the bbPress plugin itself for the future. Iāve looked through my media library and I the video isnāt there. Iām not sure how to remove it and keep bbPress active. Any tips?
WordPress version: 3.7.1
bbPress version: 2.4.1

Ok, I see what your trying to achieve.
Create a ticket on Trac for this http://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org
I have a client experiencing the same issue, using bbPress 2.4.1 with WordPress 3.7.1 – replies showing up not in sequential time order, so it’s hard for users to keep track of the discussion.
In a post I just checked reply #9059 shows below #9056 but above #9057. Threaded replies are enabled to 6 levels.
Any advice would be much appreciated.
