I found this plugin – https://wordpress.org/plugins/basic-user-avatars/
But, it has not been updated since 2 years.
Any post or reply on any forum throws an error after a long time of trying to submit the post [an error occurred while processing this directive]
The post or reply is successful, you can see it when you reload the page. When you make a post or reply and click submit, you can reload the page almost immediately and see that the post was made, not sure why it hangs so long and then shows [an error occurred while processing this directive]
I have tried this with WordPress 2016 theme with the same outcome. It does not do this on my local development server. This is not a new problem but I have just updated to the latest version and it still happens.
Wordpress 4.7
bbPress 2.5.12
BuddyPress 2.7.3
Hosted on GoDaddyShared Hosting
I don’t know if there is a way to get more info from the server, its go daddy shared hosting
I see this same issue on my staging site. The error only appears when I’m on the actual Dashboard homepage though, not when I’m in any of the other pages in the Dashboard. When the error message shows wp also shows the bubbles saying I have plugin updates. When I click on plugins, the error message is gone and so is the update bubble (all of my plugins are fully updated).
I received the same error message and I just updated all of my plugins as well as my version of wordpress.
WP 4.7, bbPress 2.6a http://wordpress-6213-13994-191680.cloudwaysapps.com/forums/
Having converted from PHPBB 3.1.10 and run all of the repair functions I am having a few issues with things not being correctly reported.
1. All of the voices counts are set zero.
2. Last activity is incorrect; http://wordpress-6213-13994-191680.cloudwaysapps.com/forums/forum/general-hysterectomy/alternatives-to-hysterectomy/ says forum last updated 4 months ago but topics show from just 2 months ago.
I had to use 2.6a to get the import from PHPBB; should I switch to 2.5.11 now?
I can’t seem to find any references for how to add a topic index of recently added topics. Current functionality seems to only make it possible to display recently updated or “fresh” topics. Any help?
My WordPress version is 4.7
My website link is http://www.theparadigmshiftgroup.com
I have already searched for my question in bbPress support forum (where I am posting now), there are previous threads on this question but the plugin mentioned at that time is now unsupported now (bbPress like topics, last updated 2 years ago). Another thread on the same topic don’t have reply. So I decided to bring this matter into the attention of bbPress authors again. If bbPress already contains this feature, please let me know as well.
bbPress don’t have a voting up feature built in. So the topics get sorted by just last activity and not popularity. A forum seems incomplete without a voting option for topics and replies.
I tried different plugins for this feature. There are many plugins on voting but they are mostly for WordPress posts, not bbPress topics and replies. Some plugins are able to put a “Vote Up” option above the topic, but it doesn’t help the topics to get sorted based on it. Some plugins only shows “vote up” written and instead of a button. Moreover these plugins only can vote topics and not the replies.
Please also include a feature to show the number of votes besite the topic in feeds. Because people choose which topic to read in the feed page.
I always found this community very helpful. I am sure this issue will get noticed.
I have just updated to WordPress version 4.7 and bbPress version 2.5.12. I am a web developer creating a site for a client, so the work is only locally on my machine; however, I’ve added the appropriate function to the filter ‘bbp_verify_nonce_request_url’ so that it should be working appropriately (I had to do this to fix the problem that led to this new one). Now, every time I try to post a new topic through the front end (rather than via the WordPress dashboard), the above error appears (“ERROR: Your topic needs a title.”) despite the fact that I have submitted a title. Any help would be appreciated!

I have the latest 4.7 version of WordPress and installed the latest bbPress plugin (updated 4 days ago).
When I click on Forums->All forums, in the WP Dashboard, it shows me a full white blank page. Upon typing website.com/forums, it shows a blank page. The newly created forum link website.com/forums/forum/forum is also completely blank. I’ve tried this on two themes – Twenty Sixteen and Twenty Seventeen. Both showed blank page.
I tried creating a new page and pasting [bbp-forum-index] but that gave me the following code as the result:
{{ partial “head.html” . }}
{{ partial “header.html” . }} {{ partial “sidebar.html” . }} {{ partial “post/header-cover.html” . }}
{{ $paginator := .Paginate (where .Data.Pages “Type” “post”) }} {{ range $paginator.Pages }} {{ .Render “summary” }} {{ end }} {{ partial “pagination.html” . }}
{{ partial “footer.html” . }}
{{ partial “foot.html” . }}
I recently updated WordPress and BBPress. Everything appeared to be in good shape last Friday but today the categories for the forum show on the main menu but the forum and all the related content are missing. I can see that the plugin is active but I do not see it in the WP admin. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks

p.s. I’m not sure what it is you’ve set from “Updated the flooding time to 0”
Is that the “Disallow editing after” or “Throttle posting every” setting?
Or is it from a plugin?
Hi Stephen
What I did was the following:
1. Installed bbpress as mentioned
2. Updated the flooding time to 0
3. Auto assigned the standard roles to the user via Tools -> bbp-repair
4. As admin I created a forum with status “open” and visibility “public”
5. As admin I created a topic with status “open”
6. I logged in with a non admin user and tried to reply on the topic which I’ve created as admin.
My result is now that the user displayed is Anonymous even with logged in user.
I would expect that the name from the logged in user is used instead of Anonymous.
Do I miss something in the configuration?
Best regards,
Marco
Even funnier. All I had to do was deactivate and activate bbPress again. I usually do manual upload upgrading since in past versions of bbPress and BuddyPress my site would crash if I did a normal plugin update or even deactivating and activating bbPres and BuddyPress and I would have to restore the database. Anyway took a chance and no site crash and all capabilities were updated successfully. Yeah!
I managed to reinstate the forums by deleting and reinstalling plugins in a particular order. It didn’t seem to work if they were installed or updated in a different order even if the end installed-active list was the same. I’m running genesis theme with a child theme and the issue started with upgrading to WP 4.7.
Here is what I did which solved it, I do not know why (unfortunately):
1. using ftp, I overwrote bbPress plugin with an old version dated 5/6/2015
2. in the wp-admin area, under plugins, update the plugin to the current one
3. in the wp-admin area, search for, find, install and activate the plugin ‘User Role Editor’. then the ‘Forums, Topics, Replies’ appeared in the sidebar of the dashboard
4. then I could open tools/forums and could see the forum-fixing items here: https://codex.bbpress.org/features/tools/repair-forums/
5. magically all seems to work now
Side Note Bonus: I did stumble across a solution for another problem that I could not figure out before, which is when I switched Themes my Theme stylesheet would no longer load and the Theme displayed without any CSS/broken. The problem is with this DB value: wp_options > template_root > the value was being updated with the full literal path to: C:\xampp\htdocs4\buddypress\wp-content\plugins\buddypress/bp-themes (on a Live Hosted site the path was also the full URL) and the value must be this relative path instead: /plugins/buddypress/bp-themes
@vcgs – All the bbPress backend menus disappeared again after I refreshed the Dashboard backend for the first time after creating the new administrator/keymaster user account. So that must mean the usermeta data is being updated somewhere “after the fact” and that is the root cause of the problem. Very Rough General Example: If WP version is X then update Y usermeta data. At least I know exactly where I should be looking. So thanks for that. 😉
I have the same issue. I updated to wordpress 4.7 and lost settings and capabilities from my admin users. All are keymaster.
I created a new admin account and they has all privileges and capabilities. Tabs (Forums, Replies, etc.) are back for this account but not in others.
ok, so we’ll save a copy of the current theme loop-forums in case we need it, and then copy the one from my plugin to the theme directory to replace it.
Step by step this is :
1. copy the file
wp-content/themes/%what-your-theme-is-called%/bbpress/loop-forums.php
to your PC and save it to somewhere you know and make a note of it so you can find it if you need it in future.
2. then find
wp-content/plugins/bbp style pack/templates/templates1/loop-forums.php
and copy it to your pc (again knowing where you put it, but don’t overwrite the one you copied above!)
3. Then copy this file into
wp-content/themes/%what-your-theme-is-called%/bbpress
The theme should then use the updated file
The theme used here on bbpress.org is called bbpress-org
, the theme used on buddypress.org is called buddypress-org
, I see a pattern emerging, the theme used on codex.bbpress.org is called codex-bbpress-org
, the theme used on codex.buddypress.org is called codex-buddypress-org
, there is a pattern here :shakes fist: ;P
Along with the above, each of those themes is a WordPress child theme, the parent theme is named bb-base
, as you can see below per the announcement blog posts all the above parent and child themes and plugins used on all the sites were “open sourced” back in March 2014
Open Sourcing bbPress.org
Open Sourcing BuddyPress.org
The above posts also link to the source repos, there is also a new child theme that is now used on the bbPress 2.x powered https://wordpress.org/support/ forums and an even newer evolution of this theme is being worked on for the updated redesign of the WordPress forums, you can even sneak a peak at the new design by visiting this URL: https://wordpress.org/support/?new-theme=1
The updates to all of the above and the migration of the WordPress Support Forums to bbPress 2.x, rather 2.6-alpha is one of the reasons bbPress 2.6 isn’t out yet, it’s because we’re making sure bbPress 2.6 will be the best it possibly can be, and by deploying it on wordpress.org and the ensued battle testing of it that has been taking place we’ve got a few things to do before we can say bbPress 2.6 is ready to be released.
I followed the patch instruction and updated the file manually. The conversion did kicked off and the wheel is spinning for an hour now.
Fingers crossed, because it is doing something!!
Hopefully it will not crash, Ill leave it for some time. Will update as soon as possible.
Thanks
Hey @mikehaceman, sorry you are having trouble.
This isn’t usually necessary, but something between your two installations isn’t cooperating, and in these rare cases it unfortunately requires a bit of scrutiny.
WordPress installations since 4.4 and beyond will try to use utf8mb4
for their character set, and utf8mb4_unicode_ci
for their collation. Traditionally these are InnoDB tables, but you’re usually free to decide this for yourself.
utf8mb4
tables have reduced maximum key lengths due to the additional bytes required for each character, so the safe maximum length is reduced to 191
. It’s possible we haven’t updated our special converter table to handle this, so I’ll check, and update it if that’s the case.
If you wanted, it may be worth going through all databases, all tables, and all columns, and ensure that your encoding & collations are what you expect them to be. (This means in your old forums, and your new ones.)
[Edit: Updated this post to reflect what we’ve updated in bbPress’s converter]
I have a WP site , and I installed bbPress and BuddyPress in 2012. It worked great. Then the project got cold, and I now want to start it up again.
However, to keep WP healthy I have updated it version for version. Now it is 4.6.1, and I have bbPress 2.5.11 and BuddyPress 2.7.2
I can not get access to bbPress’ settings.
I can access wp-admin/options-general.php?page=bb-forums-setup and then can click “cofigure bbPress”, but the popup loads a blank page.
I remember that the first time I set it up I had access to a lot of settings, but now I can not access anything.
Where do I go from here? What is the best way to get access again?
ok so something caused this – what have you changed, added, updated?
Hi,
I’m trying to re-do a site.
Now the new site is using the latest version of WordPress (4.6.1) and bbPress also the latest version (2.5.10)
The previous site is using WordPress 4.5 version with the latest version of bbPress.
I exported my old forum, topics and replies and imported those data into the new site.
When I click on the forum, I got this messages, below:
This forum contains 6 topics and 55 replies, and was last updated by xxx 1 month, 2 weeks ago.
Oh bother! No topics were found here!
I also tried to disable all the plugin, switched to default themes and used this little plugin – http://www.rewweb.co.uk/bbpress-wp4-fix/. But it doesn’t work at all.
Is this plugin compatible with the latest version of WordPress?
Does anyone have the same issue? Any solution for this issue?
Can share with me how to solve this issue?
Regards,
CL
I have this same concern. I have to upgrade to PhP 5.5 (and frankly, 5.6 is out of support by Jan 01, 2017, so this is an old issue). Can bbPress be updated to work under PhP 5.5, or at least not throw an error?
