Hi, I’ve searched around the web for some hours now and hopefully I’ll get the correct answer from you.
I need to translate the plugin bbPress into Norwegian, I’ve fetched the translation from http://translate.wordpress.org/projects/bbpress/dev/nb/default and made sure every string is there with the .po editing software Poedit. I’ve downloaded both .po and .mo file for the Norwegian translation.
Norwegian is activated generally as WordPress language already.
So the problem is the localization and naming of the files, I’ve tried different directories and names:
wp-content/languages/bbpress-nb_NO.po and .mo
wp-content/languages/bbpress-nb.po and .mo
wp-content/languages/bbPress/bbpress-nb_NO.po and .mo
wp-content/languages/bbPress/bbpress-nb.po and .mo
wp-content/plugins/bbPress/languages/bbpress-nb_NO.po and .mo
wp-content/plugins/bbPress/languages/bbpress-nb.po and .mo
wp-content/plugins/bbPress/languages/bbpress-langauge-nb_NO.po and .mo
wp-content/plugins/bbPress/languages/bbpress-langauge-nb.po and .mo
wp-content/plugins/bbPress/languages/bbpress-plugin-nb.po and .mo
wp-content/plugins/bbPress/languages/bbpress-plugin-nb_NO.po and .mo
None of them seems to work, what is the correct localization and naming?
Your best option will be to post the same as above on https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/
They will setup the correct entries for uploading your Persian translations to GlotPress https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/bbpress/dev
Make sure you include the language locale eg. ‘fa’ Persian or ‘fa-af’ Persian (Afghanistan)
Take a look at this thread on creating your own language/translation files for bbPress.
Language file isn't working
@blancdememoire See this https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/trouble-with-po-and-mo-files/#post-127814
You will need to follow the contact link there and ask the French Translations team when are they going to validate the waiting translations on ‘glotpress’.
Hi I have a problem still and I followed the steps of uploading the bbpress-fr_FR.po and bbpress-fr_FR.mo of the latest version with changed names to content/languages/bbpress but it still doesnβt work. Itβs driving me nuts ! Help would be appreciated.
Thank you for your attention

FAQ – https://codex.bbpress.org/bbpress-in-your-language/
The following shows the current progress of bbPress translation to French for the ‘dev’ & ‘2.2.x’ versions:
https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/bbpress/dev
11% – 111 Translated – 879 Untranslated – 628 Waiting
https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/bbpress/2.2.x
% – 0 Translated – 952 Untranslated – 533 Waiting
So quite a few are done but needs an authorised ‘validator’ to approve the ‘waiting’ translations.
You can contact your local translation time via https://fr.wordpress.org/contact/ to find out who the bbPress validators are or if no luck request to become a validator yourself via https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/
All my fault !
I mispelled the mo and po files names, now everything works fine !
the proper files names should be : bbpress-fr_FR.po ans bbpress-fr_FR.mo for French translations.
there are no po and mo files completed for French language in the depository, you need to do them yourself from the pot file that comes with bbpress plugin.
I am in a hurry, so I just translated part of it (it is very long !), what appears on the website but not the admin part yet.
No way to upload it easily in this forum, but I’ll be back once the translation is completed and will give a link to get it.
bye
it seems to me that in fact, the po and Mo files are not translations and we need to edit them ourselves for the French language;
I am at it just now, will let you know if this works…
if you think I am wrong and wasting my time, please say so !
The function get_post_time is disable for translation. You can use a filter, example
add_filter ( ‘get_post_time’, ‘new_date’, 10, 3);
function new_date ($time, $d = ‘U’, $gmt = false) {
$translate = true;
$time = mysql2date($d, $time, $translate);
return $time;
}
Un saludo π
Hi,
I’m having some troubles to customize bbpress to my specific theme.
I really don’t have the time to figure it out all by myself.
Therefore I’m willing to pay a person here on this forum to help customize it to my website.
Thinks to be done:
– Main forum page does not show.
– Translation to Swedish (You don’t need to speak swedish only know how to copy the language file from wordpress into bbpress.)
– And a few other things. More info if interested.
So do you have the experience to fix this for me? Send me a message and we can discuss the deal.
Just follow the steps in the document https://codex.bbpress.org/bbpress-in-your-language/
Set `define (‘WPLANG’, ‘fr_FR’);` in your WordPress `wp-config.php`
Download the .po & .mo files
Rename the files
- bbpress-plugin-fr-fr.po to bbpress-fr_FR.po
- bbpress-plugin-fr-fr.mo to bbpress-fr_FR.mo
Upload both files to `/wp-content/languages/bbpress/ `
I would suggest you use the following page to ask if anyone in the French WordPress community has fully translated bbPress as the translations linked above are 0% & 11% https://fr.wordpress.org/contact/
If you are trying to translate the theme DynamiX or ‘codestyling localization’ plugin then they are issues with their respective authors.
This is fixed in the upcoming bbPress 2.3, you can download and test it from here
bbPress 2.3 Beta 2
Some people has got problem with translation. Everyone puts files in the right place with correct filename but translation doesn’t show all polish translation, some words still are in english even they are translated on file, what to do?
Congrats, the site looks good and looks like you finished the bbPress Arabic translations π
The instructions are here: https://codex.bbpress.org/bbpress-in-your-language/
That said I cannot see any Greek (el) translations for bbPress in GlotPress for the 2.2 or 2.3(dev) branches of bbPress https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/bbpress
I suggest you try asking some of the Greek WordPress communities listed here:
https://codex.wordpress.org/WordPress_in_Your_Language#Greek_.28el.29
In particular on their forum http://wpmania.gr/forum/
(You could also ask when they are planning on switching to bbPress ;))
Have you uploaded the Greek files? could you send me a link to the files?
thanks
Hello,
I have problem. I download polish language for BBpress (pl_PL.mo). Where I must put this file and where I can change language from english to polish?
I make this scenarios:
– upload .mo file to wp-content/language/bbpress – not working
– upload .mo file to wp-content/plugins/bbpress/language – not working
Can someone help me ?
My problem is that the entire sentence is translated ok the only word that is still in english is ‘days’ or ‘day’ and I don’t know from what file or how to translate it.
Does it have to do with date/time formatting ?
Please help
Hey all
I’m running bbpress with wordpress, WPML, buddypress and the buddybosstheme. I have three fora with three subfora each, two fora and their subfora are translations of the default EN fora and subfora respectively.
When I want to create a new topic in NL or FR, these are posted under the default langguage and do not show up in the list of topics of the subforum.
Changing the language in the backend to the correct one does make them show up. If you view a topic you can’t see the actual content.
Same thing for replies. Replies don’t show up, even if you change the language.
Could anyone point me in the right direction?
Thanks in advance
Pieter
The way the post type are setup make them not ready for translations array in array are the main problem.
For info bbpress v 2.2.4, translation files in my wp-content/languages/bbpress/bbpress-fr_FR.mo
All the others strings are getting translated π
