That is what I use to display latest discussions from bbPress into WordPress – just use the built-in RSS-parser. Is there something like that in bbPress?

I downloaded the latest release of bbPress. I uploaded all the files/folders to my site. I even deleted them and uploaded them again to see if it fixed it. I get to the install screen and when I click “let’s get started” I get the following error about 200 times.

Admin Can Post Anything, from _CK_ is a great plugin and works perfectly in the latest stable version of bbPress.

Is there anyway to make both Administrator and Moderator able to insert html content?

I’m using a nice hack for wordpress that lets me install wordpress once, and have multiple urls use those files, so when updating day comes, there’s a single update to be done. Is this possible with bbpress? If so, would anyone like to share how to? I’d be willing to test

Could you provide more details? Excuse me, but the documentation of bbPress is very scarce and this complicates the customization of the forum.

For a non-shared DB, you just have to define the database instead of $bbdb

Hi,

I also was stuck on that for a while. I found it easier to downgrade WP 2.7 cookies with this plugin:

Just make sure you juse just the old SECRET_KEY in wp-config.php and match it to the BB_SECRET_KEY in bb-config.php

Clear your domain cookies after activating the plugin and login again. Test login/out on both installations.

Go into your wp-config.php and put the line

@define(COOKIE_DOMAIN,'.diskinserted.com');

then go into your bb-config.php and put the line

$bb->cookiedomain = '.diskinserted.com';

Make you you remove any existing versions of the lines first.

Make sure you clear all cookies for your website.

Then try logging in and testing again.

Mods don’t have the ability to delete users here, only admin.

Sometimes people reply several times if they are getting flagged as spam because they never see their message and don’t know what is going on. They also may be set to bozo mode accidentally and not know it.

Sometimes there is also server lag because of how Automattic does mysql replication. You may post to one server and then the page refresh comes back from another server that has not gotten the posts yet in it’s mysql table.

ashwaag was a strange user indeed, probably a bot in testing, the posts were copies of other people’s posts. One of them was even a post of mine that they just copied. Weird.

Here are some variables that might help…

– I updated recently from 0.9.0.4 (although I also updated my other site and it’s fine)

– I integrated cookies with WordPress

– not limited to Keymaster accounts

– works fine with Safari but not with the latest Firefox

I hadn’t integrated the database yet as I am running three installations on one site and was looking for the best way to do so (I’ve since decided that I’m going to keep them seperate).

My site is new so I’m not too bothered by the thought of starting the database over unless there is a quick fix for this…

New this year is the ability to vote on sites, based on quality/content, so even if a site is not in the regular Top 100 list, be sure to “vote it up” and I will post another list soon with the highest votes. There are some really nice looking forums running bbPress out there that deserve some votes. You must be a member to vote but registration is free of course. The Top 1000 list can also be searched when you are logged in, as well as an experimental Tag Cloud

When we last left the list, it had just topped over 4000 websites.

In the newest list, despite roughly 1000 sites disappearing (small test installs, etc.) the list is now over 6000 strong! This means an average of 15 sites per day are installing and sticking with bbPress. About 10% of these forums are running the new 1.0 alpha (and half of those have not upgraded to the newest 1.0a6, so they need to keep up with the releases).

At this rate, next time I am going to have to make it the Top 10,000 list.

However I am sad to report a dark side has emerged in bbPress’s growth. Because of how much easier bbPress is to control and manipulate with just a basic knowledge of PHP/MySQL compared to other forum software, some “black hats” have latched onto bbPress in order to create a big content spamming network, nearly 200 sites strong. They aim these sites at search engines with topics such as gambling, lottery and foreign currency exchanges. You can see them at the very end of the Top 1000 list, where they sit demoted. This really doesn’t affect the average forum operator in any way, it’s just unfortunate to see. WordPress went through this kind of event too, I just hate to see it happen.

ps. This list also marks the first inclusion of a TalkPress powered site and while it only has a couple dozen posts because it’s brand new, it has the easy access of 7.5million WordPress.com members so it’s bound to grow quickly!

Last year I put the gravatar of the latest poster there instead of the poster name, it looked good, but i dont know if it would with your theme, unless you make them really small like a digg.com avatar. just my thoughts. might look good, good luck

The poll puts itself by default wherever the topicmeta is, however you can change that. Just a guess, untested, try putting this near the top of your topic.php template:

Thanks for the feedback! I downloaded the “blank themes” from refueled.net and tweaked them here and there. I wanted a clean look.

I’m thinking about taking out the “last poster” column until we get more people posting – what do you think? I think it looks kind of stupid with my name showing up for nearly every post.

Unfortunately all Graham/Bayesian algorithms are doomed to fail, spammers have learned how to defeat even the best of them.

The best way to detect is counting the number of links in a post (in html or plain text) and holding any messages with more than 3. Of course they will adopt after many sites start doing that.

I am working on an advanced module for Human Test that will also check these databases, though some require membership:

It’s too “expensive” (in time and connections) however to check all of them on an active site for each post, so I’ll probably limit it to just registration, and maybe the first few posts a member makes.

svn is short for “subversion” a version control system:

“The latest SVN” means checking out the latest version of the code using the software called subversion. You can do that instead of downloading and unzipping, and it makes upgrades and modifications easier as well.
