Thank you John, I use bbPress 2.1 and using Shortcodes actually improve something. The list of forum looks better. But still not working correctly, you can see it again in http://site.teamcyanide.eu/example-forum.

I know no one will take so much trouble but if you want I can give you access to the web or create an instant portable wordpress (http://www.instantwp.com/) with themes, plugin and everything ready to see what errors have. If not, nothing happens, I understand that you do not waste time on this with me.

John thank you very much for your help, really appreciate it

    HI there,

sounds to me that you have missed a couple simple but necessary steps:

    1) You need to ensure that the sitewide forums have been installed as well as the buddypress group forum. Both are installed from the “forums” tab of the buddypress setup menu;

    2) You need to be sure to delete AND empty the trash, of any page slug that was created which has “forums” as its name. This is necessary to allow the sitewide forums to use that slug.

    3) Be sure that you create a new page for buddypress group forums that is anything other than “forums” (call it “group-forums” for example)

    4) Be sure to go to Settings/Permalinks and hit “save” one time after all of this is setup.

We’ve done a little tutorial video to show how you can setup either a BuddyPress Group Forum, a SiteWide bbPress 2.0 Forum, or a custom hybrid forum page using shortcodes. You can have all three at one time. Hope this helps ;-)

    Thanks for your response.

I’m going to take a look at that plugin and see why it’s not working and see if I can fix it.

I’ll try to get the author to updated the plugin with a fix, if not I’ll fork the plugin.

Anyways thanks for the kind works and I’m glad you are taking a fancy to the bbPress project :)

Please let us know whenever you have any questions and we will do our best to help!

Hi Jaredatch – thank you for looping back to me and your links … i did indeed read in a post by John James Jacoby about security issue(s) so i can appreciate that … i also tested the plugin you mention but it kicked out errors which i posted in the WP forums so perhaps the plugin author will have info or fix down the road ..??..

in a bit of thinking outloud and in the for-whatever-its-worth depts … the first time i saw shortcodes work in a WP forum solution was with Simple:Press plugin … i was actually suprised that shortcodes did work and then i got excited about using them – e.g., wrapping some forum content so that it was public, while other forum content reserved to be private and require login … also, the audio shortcode to play clips within forum posts, all of which was cool … thus not sure if Simple:Press introduces security issues by allowing shortcodes or not ..??..

my only problem with Simple:Press was / is that it was too much configuration (in turning off stuff) and i liked the clean, minimalism inherent in bbPress … and now that it is plugin and works within WP, means i’m throwing my hat in this bbPress forum ring and look forward to seeing it’s ongoing growth …

in the meantime, i’ve had to rethink my shortcode issue – namely media files … e.g., where do i put these files in WP if i don’t want to create a post for them, but have them referenced from within forum posts … which lead me to discover a really cool program, open source, and share as fyi in case others might be interested …

the program = http://ajaxplorer.info … it comes with a bridge for WP so user accounts can be shared by both … it is a file manager of sorts for your web site that makes it pretty easy to keep files private or make them shareable … i’m almost done testing this and i’m pretty sure at this point that it will be my go to tool to upload media files*, then create the shared-encrypted links, then put those links into my bbPress forum posts … thus keeping my forums to mostly text, yet linking out to media files as need be via using Ajaxplorer …

lastly, i just wanted to go on record with BIG gratitude for all the hard work your bbPress team does in helping the rest of us in the WP worlds have really nice forum solution – Kudos to you and your seed – and i hope the Divine blesses you all for i certainly feel blessed / lucky to have tools like bbPress and forums like this for knowledge sharing – THANK YOU!

    cordially, chuck scott

*yes i know that i could use WP Media Gallery but that gets a bit unruley since uploads are stored in blog-id-year-month folders … thus if i had ten pop tunes i wanted to upload to server, easier to create a dedicate library system with folder called music and subfolders under that … then it is easier to add new files to those folder collections versus having to track down different folders and try to remember what is in the 2011 folder vs 2012 let alone what blog-id it might have been uploaded under but i digress …

    Hi

We installed bbpress in our wordpress site

We created some forms using bbpress

Also we created some posts inside the created forms using bbpress

From this link http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/bbpress-20-shortcodes we found short codes.

    We used

[bbp-topic-index] – this is listing forms

[bbp-topic-index] – this is listing topics.

Is there any way to list form wise topics that is we need to list first form name then all topics in that then second form name then all topics in that etc. Please advise.

In some sample bbpress sites we could able to see all form names listing and then if we click on any one form name all topics in that form will be listed like http://singletrackworld.com/forum/forum/classifieds-wanted Please advise how to achieve this.

    Thanks

I’m fairly certain this is disabled because it’s a big security issue. You wouldn’t want users to have access to all your shortcodes.

    Similar thread https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/shortcodes-from-other-plugins

This is mentioned in that thread and is probably what you will want https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress2-shortcode-whitelist/

Hi – i’m using bbPress 2.02 on a Multisite install but am a bit bummed to see that there is no easy way to include media in forum posts – e.g., audio, video, images …

based on the Trac, it appears the next version will allow for oEmbed thus videos might be able to be included but my question is what about MP3 audio files ..??..

i have tried several audio plugin players that work fine in my WP Posts but bomb when i try the same shortcode syntax in bbPress forums – e.g., [audio:http://www.my-domain.com/audio/some-file.mp3%5D

    [audio src="http://www.my-domain.com/audio/some-file.mp3"]

in using other forum solutions, e.g., Simple:Press – they have option to allow or not allow WP shortcodes in their forum admin … thus my audio shortcode works as well as other private vs public content shortcodes with Simple:Press …

accordingly, is there a way to enable WP shortcodes in bbPress ..??..

thanks in advance for any pointers that can be shared … cordially, chuck scott

Well I come here 1 more time because I really can not do more and I need a little help please.

I am using a child theme called Arras Classical Gamer. I test many times and try a lot of tutorial but is really impossible fix problem with bbpress.

You can see my website here http://www.site.teamcyanide.eu working perfectly with buddypress and pluging like BuddyPress Template Pack. That was my first hard mission but I do it well and everything work good with some change on CSS.

Now the only problem I have is that forum bbpress dont work good. For example I creat a forum called Starcraft 2 and when I clic on view look what happen:

    http://site.teamcyanide.eu/board/forum/starcraft-2

I create a category of Starcraft 2 forum and look:

    http://site.teamcyanide.eu/board/forum/starcraft-2/protos

So is simple, dont work but I continue looking here on forum and google then I try use Shortcodes from here http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/bbpress-20-shortcodes, and look what happen:

    http://site.teamcyanide.eu/example-forum

You can see ok I can fix the CSS to make it look better, but if you clic on forum or category continue with same problem, just test yourself and can see it.

So guys please, some one can tell me please what can I do for implement my forum of bbpress in my website?

I know on internet I have other forums and scripts, but I really love bbpress and all software make it by wordpress, buddypress, etc.

Someone have mercy on me and help me a little? :)

    Thanks.

Don’t understand that completely. Is it possible to make a new comment field and field when you post a topic with shortcodes?

    #112392

I have not personally tried that, so I’m not 100% sure. However I think you best bet is going to be using shortcodes to try and do this.

I’m working on what you said.

I’m a little stuck on the shortcodes. To display a single topic, the short code needs an ID code, but I’m not sure what the ID code or name is for each of my topics.

I’ve played with a few obvious choices, but nothing is working yet.

    More dumb questions…

I created the pages, added the short codes and unchecked the box.

However, I can’t make the registration feature show up on the live site.

When I manually input the page name into the browser, I CAN see it, but that is the only way it shows up.

If I go to the live site (and log out), I’m not getting the option to register. It says “you must be logged in…”, but it doesn’t give me a way to register or login.

How do I make that happen?

    Thanks

    Jim,

What I mainly wanted was a web page where the layout was similar to the bbpress.org forum and I wasn’t looking for the colours, etc, to look the same. I have found that a new theme isn’t required and instead I did the following:

    1. Create a new page in wordpress

    2. Create a layout using <DIV> tags and use bbPress shortcodes to specify where the forum components should sit

    3. I then added CSS to the style.css of my WordPress child theme to control how the forum looked. For example, I didn’t want the forum navigation text or the text saying how many posts there are, etc, so I turned them off via CSS.

I’m not sure if that’s the best way to do what I wanted but once I “discovered” shortcodes this was all very simple and didn’t require a new theme or PHP changes, etc, so was fairly easy.

Let me know if you want any more details about what I did and I post them here.

    Jon

You will need to use the shortcodes listed on https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/bbpress-20-shortcodes

So for example you will want to create a ‘Registration’ page that will have the [bbp-register] on it.

Then you will probably want to create a ‘Login’ page that has [bbp-login] on it.

Lastly, you will want to go into your Forum settings (Settings > Forums) and uncheck “Allow guest users without accounts to create topics and replies”.

Yes the forums show up when I change the theme to the bbPress 2010 theme.

    #112160

More likely it’s your theme not working with bbPress, then. Does whatever you’re trying to do, work correctly with TwentyEleven or bbPress (TwentyTen) ?

I’m still hacking around and have just discovered shortcodes…they do some of what I wanted and, for example, can give a similar *layout* to the .org page. Still want to change some of the way the content looks, e.g. remove the navigation path above the forums and topics lists (is that possible without a theme or code change?), and I guess that may require a theme or code change but I’ll keep investigating.

It is the bbPress shotcodes I can’t get to work. I thenk that it is bbPress is not working with the Zeoal theme.

    #112158

Short codes are not used in bbPress, to limit their exposure from unauthorized users. Most shortcodes do not have capability checks attached to them, and since bbPress comes with its own shortcodes, we don’t want shortcodes inside shortcodes.

    Maybe in a future version.

<b>Gautam Gupta</b> tried to help me with this code:

    global $allowed_tags;

    $allowed_tags=array('name','class','id');

I pasted it inside function.php file; unfortunately its not working.

I’m using https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/google-syntax-highlighter/ plugin. and want my bbpress forum members to make use of pre tag and this plugin highlights the codes they post on the forum.

It uses the following syntax: <pre name="code" class="c">

    please help.

I installed bbPress 2.0.2 on my WordPress 3.3.1 site and I can’t get the shortcodes to work. If I add a shortcode to any of the forums it just shows the [shortcode].

http://www.rmminc.org/forums is blank the forums I created don’t show up on the page.

Below are two forums I setup

    http://www.rmminc.org/forums/forum/homelessness

    http://www.rmminc.org/forums/forum/poverty

Hi thanks for listing the shortcodes, these make things easy.

What id goes in this one? Where to find it?

[bbp-single-topic-tag] – Show the topics within a specific tag

Do these work for bp’s install?

    #57752

You would want to disable the admin bar site-wide for “Subscribers”.

Then you would have a link in your site/theme that takes your members to the bbPress profile page where they can edit their profile.

If you disable the admin bar and use login/registrations forms via shortcodes there is really no reason for the users to ever use /wp-admin unless the specifically went to it.
