Yes you will set each one up.

    Go into Dashboard>users>add new user

In there you will see a box to uncheck that they don’t see the toolbox, a wordpress role – I set to none for this site.

Once you have set them up and clicked save, then go back in to edit that user and you’ll see at the bottom options for their bbpress, which you’ll set to participant.

    I said:

If you are comfortable in phpMyAdmin and you could export half a dozen rows from each of the ‘forum’, ‘thread’, ‘post’, ‘tagcontent’, ‘tag’ & ‘user’ tables I could have a closer look at why this isn’t working for you.

So if you can export some sample data add the exports to a .zip file and link to it here I will take a look.

nicoblue: I checked your website and – as far as I can see – you solved the problem. I’ve the same issue now; could you help me with the solution?

    Wordpress version: 3.5.1
    BBpress version: 2.3.2
Theme: Default Twenty-eleven (from earlier WP) with my own minor modifications

The problem is the same: the bbpress forum style on the full-width pages are working flawless. But when I use the shortcode, the floating elements are broken, for example the pagination is messed up. The styling was okay a year ago, but I updated bbpress not so long ago, after I did not checked the shortcode pages (my bad…), and yesterday I faced with the problem.

    I show you the difference:

On full-width page, without shortcode (perfect):

    Link: http://www.radu.hu/forum/f/kerdesek-a-pontos-adatokkal-kapcsolatban/

With shortcode, pagination and other styles are broken:

    Link: http://www.radu.hu/hasznos-eszkozok/jo-minosegu-backteszt-adatok/adatok-letoltese/

At the bottom of the page, the new topic box (the border) is wrong:

    Link: http://www.radu.hu/hasznos-eszkozok/jo-minosegu-backteszt-adatok/adatok-letoltese/

If anyone could give me a hint… 🙂

I have been coming to some realizations as to what exactly is happening and some ideas on how to tackle the issues. The solutions I will propose will not be optimal, but better than the current default.

When using bbPress for new user registration they are actually using the WordPress system for user registration. Now I have tried a few plugins to avoid spam with user registration but most seem old and none seem to work out of the box. Welp, if you cant beat them, join them. Instead of using the bbPress registration form maybe I will direct the user to the WordPress backend, or a page similar to the default WordPress backend that I stylize to look like my site’s page. There I can include links back to the forum and they dont get this feeling like they have left my site.

Regarding the registration email, this is actually the WordPress registration email. You can change this to your liking with a host of plugins.

Overall I think there are a lot of rough edges. I cannot ask for too much since this is free, but given the number of support issues revolving around these topics it would be cool if bbPress could incorporate these features on its own. It would make this great plugin just that much cooler.

    Cheers!

    Thanks for the tips Robin!

I got the forum page set up in the site’s menu and it looks like the widgets you mention were already included when I uploaded bbPress, so I put them into the sidebar. I am still not exactly clear on how I would set up a user after they sign up with the contact form 7. Would I need to create their username and password etc and where do I set them up? Also, when I log out as a user, I am getting an error page that says “Oops, this link appears to be broken.” This is the link: http://www.successintention.com/forums/forum/success/?loggedout=true
You also mention that the user will have “no role for this site” for wordpress. Where do I set this up?

    Thanks,
    Suzanna

This will take you several stages but should get you where you want to be

    1. For your forum page

Create a page called forum or forums. In the body of the page type the following code

    [bbp-forum-index]

    And save

If your menu auto-creates then this will appear, if not go into dashboard>appearance>menus

    2. Create a register form

    Download contact form 7

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/contact-form-7/

set up a page called ‘register’, and put a registration for in there

    3. Download bbpress WP tweaks

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/bbpress-wp-tweaks/

This will give you a bbpress sidebar that your forum page will use

Go into dashboard>appearance>widgets and populate this with

    (bbpress) login widget

The url for register will be the page you set up under 2 – so populate this with “/register”, and the lost password url will be “/lost-password”

    (bbpress) forums list

    (bbpress) recent topics

    (bbpress) recent replies

And anything else you want to add

    4. When someone sends in a form (it’ll be emailed to you) then you can set them up, and ensure that they don’t get the toolbar. They will have “no role for this site” for wordpress, and “participant” form bbpress.

That should be enough to get you going, but come back if you need more !

I have tried to install bbPress, but am having issues with the Forum Index page.
This is the forum index: Forums. However, the actual forums work fine, as you can see on a test forum I created called Suggestions.

Any ideas as to why it’s doing this? I’ve followed the few instructions I could find, including the page about Theme Compatibility. I added the bbPress theme files to my own theme, as suggested in those intructions.

Also, is there a way for the link to just be ‘http://thewhitesharks.co.uk/forums/suggestions/’ instead of ‘http://thewhitesharks.co.uk/forums/forum/suggestions/’? Seems a bit long to me…

Hello all I am setting my forum with bbpress

I just checked /forums/forum/name (name is the forum name so let´s say general discussion) it does appear forums/forum/general-discussion

how do I simply remove the forum/ and just let it forums/general-discussion or remove the forums/genera-discussions and just leave in the singular word so it will be…

forum/general-discussion ? I´d be interested in have the links like forum/general-discussion and just leave it like that

    Thanks

Stephen, no luck so far. It seems the problem is with the usermeta data.

Not sure why phpbb to bbpress has issues with passwords. I am able to login to phpbb board seamlessly but the migration is not importing useful passwords.

I can give you access to my cpanel for a closer look the tables you requested. How do I contact you.

It’s as if there is a php file missing in pugins\bbpress\templates\default\extras that displays the search results. Where can I find that?

That’s a great tutorial. And close to what I did yesterday, just without the child theme. I used this: https://codex.bbpress.org/theme-compatibility/

However this had no effect on the search page and I can’t find what page to edit.

From the link it seems that fixes garbled search page. I don’t have a woo theme but I do have a garbled search page. That link requires purchasing a woo theme. Can you post here what the solution was?

    Hi there,

I want to change the text in the buttons above the reply box, for example: I would like to change ‘b-quote’ to ‘block quote’.

Does anyone know how to do this?

    I’m running WordPress 3.5.1 and BBPress 2.3.2.

    Cheers,

    Damian

Can a bbpress dev fork https://gist.github.com/bhwebworks/6146811 and modify to integrate with bbpress?

It is depreciated in favor of the new bbPress Roles & Caps thus why it is not called.

(If you want to see all this history see the change sets attached to #1939

As per the theme support page, I went to bbpress\templates\default\ and copied the bbpress and css folders into my theme folder. I also copied archive-forum.php and single-user.php in to the theme folder.

I made a few modifications to archive-forum.php and single-user.php to fit into the page and remove the sidebar.

Seems like most functions are working now except Search. It still goes to a wonky page. Where do I go to look to fix that?

For those still struggling with the garbled forums page in a stock woothemes canvas installation (or child theme off canvas) this support post at WooThemes really helps:
    http://support.woothemes.com/entries/24051302-Fix-bbPress-forum-search-in-Canvas

The woo team created a simple bbpress template for use in canvas and included the attached files – one template file and a some code for functions.php.

    Works like a charm.

Your first “forum” is actually your home page – most people run forums as a sub to their main site -the site sort of thinks it is displaying

    home>forums>Digital terrestrial

    Interesting thread here

How do I edit bbPress breadcrumbs?

Which makes me think this plugin might be what you need to lose the “home” page bit in the breadcrumb.

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/bbpress-string-swap/

It that doesn’t work, come back and I’ll try to work out where in the plugin you put some code.

    Hi,

I have created an open private forum. When a person registers and logs in, they are directed to the front page of my site. When they access the dashboard and try to click on the forum topics they get a message that says “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.” My question is:

    1. When they log in, is there a way that they could get directed straight to the forum instead of being directed to my site’s front page.
    2. When they go to the Dashboard, how can I give them access to the topics so they don’t get the message: “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”

    WEBSITE: http://www.successintention.com/

    bbPress Version: 2.4.1
    WordPress 3.7.1.
    Genesis Version: 1.9.2
    bbPress Genesis Extend Version 1.0.1

    Thanks,
    -Suzanna
