MemberI want this same functionality.
The problem is, these are all hacks. The bottom line is there’s no functionality to provide this.
I’m disappointed… The more I look under the hood with BBPress, the more I’m kinda let down.

ParticipantYou have to log in there with a wordpress.org account, then you have some additional options. I’m not certain I see a way to create an account there, so create one at wordpress.org and then click “login” https://trac.bbpress.org/login – once that’s done, you will have the option to create a new ticket https://trac.bbpress.org/newticket

MemberIndeed, the poll is a joke, they already have decided to work on WordPress integration OR Matt didn’t do his homework and check if any plugin existed first and just copied the results into a poll.
I guess people are too lazy to check if there is a plugin or don’t understand the way bbPress is set up: as small and less feature rich as possible, giving you the option to customize it anyway you like (through plugins etc)…. Would be a shame if that idea disappeared…

ParticipantWith head hung low I come here to update:
After a week off of this, I fired it up again and noticed that I had installed an older version of bbpress, .9. I upgraded to 1.1 and clicked a few things and was perfectly integrated.
Thanks for helping, everyone, I appreciate it.

Memberdaudev if you are NOT using WPMU then you shouldn’t have so many lines.
delete what you pasted and follow these instructions
6 Login to your wordpress dashboard. Go to Plugins->Add New-> search for “bbPress Integration” it should be the first one. Install it and activate.
7 Go to Settings-> bbPress Integration. Enter the bbPress URL without the www. Your plugins URL leave blank. Click on Save Changes. On the bottom box you’ll see some text copy it. Most likely it will say “define( ‘COOKIEPATH’, ‘/’ );”
There should be only ONE line in both files. Make sure you have the correct checkbox that says wordpress not wordpressmu

Memberthis question should be addressed on buddypress.org but I know the answer!
The Buddypress’ forums uses the BBpress technology for their Groups. Buddypress has something called Groups. The Groups allow people (your users) to form their own group which they can invite people to join or have people join on their own. The group has it’s own forums controlled by the Group creator. The group creator can add/edit put any forum titles they want. Buddypress adapted the BBpress Forums into the groups.
You’ll have WPMU
BuddyPress with Groups (intergrated BBpress)
BBpress which is a forum only controlled by you.
Good luck. I tried it, got it working for the most part but there are things that aren’t address because it’s three different programs trying to be one.
December 15, 2009 at 4:42 pm #32557Topic: Confused re bbpress/buddypress forums and integration
in forum Installationkriskl
MemberHi!
I am new to bbpress/buddypress
we are planning to migrate phpbb3 to bbpress,
so, we plan to have wpmu/bbpress/buddypress
what confuses me and my whole concept, is buddypress forums..
as it is, we plan to move php forums to bbpress
but where do buddypress forums stand?
sure, each group can have a forum – that’s all I know – so I guess they wont replace bbpress forums
Has anyone set up bbpress/buddypress forums? could I have a look at your site and how you are using forums?
Kind regards
Kris

ModeratorI’m assuming (based on Matt’s leanings) that he would like it to be a plugin and accepting that as probably the way it’ll go. A gross assumption, but the chat sounded rather pro-plugin to me. Could be wrong!

There’s no need for deep integration either : you just make bbPress work with the WordPress stylesheet .
Which is what I did, but it begs the question: Why?
If BuddyPress can make it work with one (two) clicks to integrate login and theme, why can’t WordPress and bbPress? Integration means I don’t have to edit two places if I want to modify my theme which, with a superficially ‘integrated’ WP, BB, Wiki and gallery, is much nicer! One less thing to do!
Some people also invested a lot in bbPress ( energy or money ), and trusted the bbPress team, so why make this big and unexpected change to bbPress ?
… I don’t see what that has to do with the price of rice. We’ve all invested time and money in bbPress, WordPress and a hundred other free, open-source applications. If bbPress ‘belongs’ to Akismet, then it’s their right to make the changes they feel would make the software more supportable and usable. They don’t have to ask us anything, but there they are, being good peoples, asking our feelings on the matter. They’re well within their rights to say we’re all fools and do what they want.
And bbPress is GPL open source, so unless I’m mistaken, you can port it to your own forum app. As long as you stay in the GPL too.

@zambrovski : the widgets support can be done using hooks, which are already supported by bbPress . So the UI side ( adding “widgets” from the admin area for example ) is the only thing needed here .
And no @ipstenu, no decision is taken now as I can see in the IRC discussion, the plugin thing was just an idea that we have to discuss, not a final decision . And because I’m worried about the future of bbPress ( which I’m planning to use for a future medium size project ), it is my right to say no !
Some people also invested a lot in bbPress ( energy or money ), and trusted the bbPress team, so why make this big and unexpected change to bbPress ?
December 15, 2009 at 3:06 pm #32555Topic: Bad Practice – BBPress Admin
in forum Requests & Feedbackillustrationism
MemberWhen you go into the BBPress admin and try to edit a user’s profile, instead of loading an admin-panel page (like it should) it loads from the theme, which not only can break the edit process, it can make it extremely difficult to fix if you don’t know what you’re doing.
When you’re in the admin, navigating and doing admin things, you should remain IN the admin. The theme should be completely removed from the admin. Period.

ModeratorCan people now use these plugins created and improve upon them so that they are now available in the latest version of BBpress?
Yes, that’s called GPL
Just credit her original plugin in your spin-offs and make sure to release them under GPL.
