I’m new to bbPress and forums in general. . . but i’m noticing that its VERY stripped down. It can’t do much right out the box.
Hi folks, doing a forum install for client on a WP site, and trying to use phpBB, which has all the features they need, but the integration leaves something to be desired… outdated plugins, header errors, failed installs, etc.
Would be nice to see in a features list table what bbpress can and cannot do, with or without extra plugins…
Thanks
Jeff
Are these forums dead? The community for bbPress doesn’t seem very active at all. Scary.
Any hope of getting something like this to work?

Is this thing alive?
I’m still deciding between bbPress, Vanilla and SMF. . .
Advertising is extremely important to me though.
bbPress is the forum plugin for BuddyPress.
Kate I’ve been involved in bbPress (as a plugin developer) for several months and yes I know what bbPress is and no the “bbPress” that you find in BuddyPress isn’t bbPress. This has been clarified several times. Check these tagged posts:

The two softwares are not compatible.

Problem resolved. For some reason I can’t use the bb-config.php file that BuddyPress generates for me, but if I pull the DB credentials from it and into a new bb-config.php file via the bbpress installer, it works.

@zaerl – Thanks but that’s not accurate. bbPress is the forum plugin for BuddyPress. Several tutorials provide links to this site (bbpress.org) for forum integration within BuddyPress. See https://buddypress.org/2010/08/buddypress-and-bbpress-the-future/
Even if the two were not compatible, it still doesn’t address the issue I’m having with removing a failed installation from my server. That problem is completely independent from BuddyPress.
Can anyone help me clear bbPress off my server so I can start over?

Is it possible in bbpress?
OR
Is there is a page plugin?
I heard BBPress will be available as a WordPress plugin and also heard about some arguments.
I think many Bppress users will love a lite wordpress blogging plugin for BBPress too.
What’s your thoughts?
bbPress isn’t compatible with BuddyPress. They are two different products despite the fact that BuddyPress have chosen the name “bbPress.”

I just installed a fresh copy of bbpress 0.9.0.6
I then created a “my-plugins” directory at the root of the bbpress install.
I downloaded the following plugin and put the PHP file within /bbpress/my-plugins
http://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/bb-topic-views/#post-275
However, it doesn’t appear bbpress is loading any PHP plugins found in /bbpress/my-plugins
Any ideas what’s going on?
Hi there!
I installed BBPress about 2 weeks or so ago and have still not found an answer for this. Everything seems to be working fine, except the posts. Whenever you click on a post you get a 404 error (page cannot be found). I cant for the life of me understand why. I have looked at some other posts and still havent found an answer. Can ANYONE please help?
Here is the link to my forums:

I installed bbPress yesterday on a site with WP 3.0 multisite and BuddyPress. Unfortunately I set a key master username that was already in my database, and since I was integrating with cookies, I got an error. Couldn’t find a way to change the username, so I decided to remove bbPress from my server and start with a fresh install. The BuddyPress forum setup page gave me a new bb-config.php file, but when I re-uploaded bbPress today with the new bb-config, I still got the message that bbPress is already installed and do I want to run an upgrade script. Clicking the link to run the upgrade script does nothing, loads a blank page.
I just want to start over from square 1 and install bbPress on my site. How do I clear out this old failed install so I stop getting the message that its already installed?
I would also like to know if the plugin is still on for an 0ct 15th release
I just installed a fresh copy of bbpress 0.9.0.6
Since the default installation does not create a my-plugins directory, I created such a directory at the root of the bbpress install.
However, when I go to put some PHP files for 0.9.x plugins in my-plugins directory, it doesn’t appear those plugins are getting loaded.
I know the *.php files located in my-plugins directory are not getting loaded because I have inserted the following code at the topic of the php files and nothing happens
die('ALERT: my-plugins loaded');
And I never see the message.
Any ideas why my-plugins directory is not loading the .php files within it?
So each blog/post/article/whatever would not only have comments and a comment form below it? But it would also have an option to create an entire thread/discussion about a specific aspect of that blog post? So instead of one giant list of every kind of comment possible, there could be multiple discussions/threads branching off based on the original blog topic?
If that is what you are suggesting I think that is an awesome idea. Just looking at any article on Smashing Magazine and the usefulness of something like that is pretty obvious.
Does this still look like it will be on schedule for Oct 15?
I just obtained the “alpha” version of the Gigya bbPress plugin directly from a developer at Gigya, who emailed it to me. Unfortunately, it’s been in “alpha” for more than a year and they are unwilling to support it or help me get it to work. It’s on my backlog to take a look at this and find out what the problem is.
For what it’s worth, the Gigya wordpress plugin works pretty well, though last time I tried it, it was not pulling Facebook users’ profile pics, which is potentially confusing to the user. Otherwise I was impressed with it.
thank you zaerl!
Actually, I registered a new account that is able to post to the Plugins forum.
I am guessing this is an authentication issue. I never registered “3sixty” at this site, so I assume bbpress.org is pulling in login information from buddypress.org or wordpress.org. kind of sucks… but I can work around it by posting under a different account name.
