I am interested too.
Subscribe to Comments should be a part of core. Simplicity and all is cool but come on, have at least some of the base features.
What’s up with the BBPress developers? What precisely are they adding to BBPress when the bloody thing looks exactly the same as 3 years ago!
BBPress has nothing else going for it other than the fact that it’s from the WordPress folks.
1. Simplicity: Vanilla is top notch, and also has a plugin system.
2. Comprehensiveness: Invision boards or PHPBB etc.
So. Why is it that BBPress is not just a full plugin to WordPress and therefore totally integrated with WordPress? If this is already being discussed (as I hope it is!) then when is this planned?
@willabee – Don’t move any files anywhere. Just activate bbPress and see how it fits on your site. If it doesn’t, use the bbp-twentyten theme. It puts itself in your list of available themes even though it’s in the plugins folder
@Rick Lewis – I’ll post a new topic tonight with instructions on how to test.
I need to install two separate forums, each on a different page of a WordPress site. One forum page is private for members and people must be registered in order to see the posts, or to create a post. The other forum, on a different page, is public to read, but must be registered to create a post. Is this possible (and hopefully easy) with bbPress?
been following this for sometime as I am in the midst of converting a vbulletin site over to wordpress/buddypress. The forums are a huge part of that and I was told to look into bbpress. Initially I wasn’t to happy but it seemed like the better option based on the relationship between all the top people involved in all the WP, BP, BB family. I did actually find a way to get the users and data over to bbpress on a test site. I am about to look into that again for the new site beings we are now ready to get that open to the public. Before I do that though, I am curious as to how the stand alone will integrate into the plug in. I am reading things in this thread and see mention that is might not be ready as of yet?
Also, how do I get the plugin itself to test out? I see mention of it being uploaded on wordpress repository??? Is that not the main area there?
Tried searching and only some other thing came up.
Please post a link if it is something everyone can test out as it would be helpful for the development of my site.
Thanks.
Good to see that the plugin is progressing so fast now.
To catch up, the bbpress files now can be placed within the theme folder? And if so, what files go in there?
Keep up the great work JJJ and Gautum.
Hi Gautam, yes, I can access the page, but the form is not displaying, here are 2 screenshots that shows what I’m talking about:

Can you please verify that you can’t go to this url – https://bbpress.org/plugins/forum/requests when you’re logged in with WP.org user/pass?

Erlend: As BuddyPress installs bbPress standalone with only a few tweaks, I think it would be very much possible to convert the BuddyPress bbPress forums too. Just point it to its directory.

Hi admins, I was trying to add a plugin on bbpress (the plugin’s name is WangGuard), I logged in with my WordPress.org user/pass but the request form didn’t show up.
I read the forums and saw this happen some time ago, but without a resolution.
Before I gave up I signup for an account on bbpress.org, sign in and the request form was finally displayed.
The problem (I think) is that this form is not showing when you login with your WordPress.org credentials, that was my case tho.
Hope this help!
chrisbrocklesby: There was a fix posted earlier in this thread about that (which I don’t actually remember and it’s hard to locate that). It happens when you upgrade from an old version of bbPress plugin. If you could nuke the whole dev site and install it again, then it should start working again for you.
Matalina: Try adding bbpress in the list of tags in style.css of your theme. That behavior should be changed though.
I have just downloaded from SVN the most recent version and started testing it with a theme I’m building with custom posts in it, it’s a child theme of twenty ten so I took all the bbpress specific files from the bbpress child theme in the repository and put them into my child theme.
I added everything I think I need in order to make the theme compatible for bbpress and added add_theme_support( ‘bbpress’ ); as the template files are all in theme.
I’m still getting the
bbPress is almost ready. First you’ll need to activate a bbPress compatible theme. We’ve bundled a child theme of Twenty Ten to get you started.
Message. Am I missing something or is this a bug? I’ve got the forums showing up and I’m assuming working as I put in the forums and they are displaying.
Hello, thanks in advance for your help.
I’ve just installed bbpress to my site and I have created three forums that I would like to use for different purposes as listed below:
1) open access – no log in required, existing posts can be seen by anyone. New posts are moderated and have to be approved by me (admin).
2) members only – users have to register themselves and have their registration approved by me before they can read topics in this forum. When I have done that they can log in and read/post to this forum without moderation.
3) super-users only – I have to manually set up each user, after which they can log in and read or post to this forum without moderation. Existing posts can only be seen by members of this ‘super user’ group.
The users for forum (3) would be a subset of forum (2) – all members of (3) can post to (2) but not vice versa.
Hope this makes sense!
Thanks
Hi Guys,
Very quick question, I may be missing something simple… But…
On my bbpress plugin test site, I get the forums page layout as if my forums were blog posts ( http://www.webition.com/dev/forum/ )
Yet on ( http://www.ricardouk.com/bbpress/forum/ ) Demo Forum the Forums page is how I would expect it to be…
Is there a bug, I am on the latest bbpress plugin ‘trac version’ ( https://trac.bbpress.org/changeset/3062/branches/plugin?old_path=%2F&format=zip ) .. should be using this version?…
I am just using a child theme on top of the Official BBP Twenty ten theme, but even with out the child theme I still have this issue…
Thanks Guys,
Chris
Great job guys, really excited about how close all this is now.
If you are searching for the german translation of bbPress: You will find the language files for bbPress 1.0.3, 1.0.2 and 1.1 (Beta) on my page. I’ve brougt them up-to-date and I will also maintain them in future.
If you find any errors or faulty translations, please report them to me.
That’s a bug. I experienced it once before and thought I’d fixed it so might be a regression of some newer privacy handling code. Will check it out. Go ahead and create a trac ticket for it and I’ll close it when it’s resolved.
I have been using BlazeForce Web Hosting
for my bbPress forums. They actually offer helpful support and I needed plenty of it.
