I am also trying to converted an integrated standalone to the plugin. For some reason, some but not all of our posts carried over to the plugin. I’m not sure about the users, but I think if your bbpress standalone and WP were all integrated before, the users should already be in your WP database, right? I’m just having problems with getting the posts and topics over. I’ve tired the bbpress converter plugin, and tried deleting the plugin and starting over, but nothing seems to help.

As noobish as it sounds, how the heck do you get to the admin area of the bbpress 2.0.2 plugin to install other plugins on it then?

Yes, you can install bbpress plugins…so long as they are designed for 2.0.2 or higher. There are also many wordpress and buddypress plugins that will work with bbPress 2.0 in this configuration.

You can see many examples of these plugins on our demo sites at http://labsecrets.com/showcase

    Cheers!

Currently there is no such plugin, anyone is free to build one though.

I’m guessing that the most ‘generic’ way to do this would be to use multisite, put bbPress onto a single site, and then simply add a link to that site in all the other sites menu’s.

You could use a plugin like

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/multisite-user-management/

That would add each user to every site on your network when they signup on one site. It does take some setup, but works pretty well for what it is.

    Bump again.

Is there actually no way to use multisite users and use, for example, an iframe from the main website? They don’t need to be individually skinned.

I would love an answer to this too.

Hi guys. I know there’s an unread posts plugin for older versions of BBPress – and even BuddyPress – but not the latest version (BBPress 2.0).

I moved from SMF and since then i’ve learned users are not bothering with our forums as this feature was used so frequently in their navigation habits.

Is there any way of adding this functionality?

I am on the latest WordPress and I installed the new bbpress plugin.

I created a forum. I made it private so that non-forum participants cannot see it.

I created a test forum participant.

I logged into as the forum participant via another browser. The forum participant cannot see any of the forums at all. Unless I make it public.

(Sorry, I just realized this should be in the troubleshooting forum)

If I make it public, anyone can see the topics, which I do not want.

    Is there a solution?

Could you tell me where can I find this version of bbPress? Why look at this link [https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress/download/] not found.

    Thanks.

My question is, can I install bbpress plugins on this type of setup? I’m looking to get for example youtube embedding etc. infrared Stationsgoing on them as well as the b or img or other shortcodes.

I installed WordPress, and then BuddyPress. As far as I know, BuddyPress comes with bbPress 2.0.2.

In BuddyPress’ components, the “Discussion Forums” component is NOT ticked, it’s off.

Instead, I have a bbPress 2.0.2 plugin on the wordpress’ list of plugins. I unfortunately don’t remember if I installed the plugin, or it got installed as I installed BuddyPress.

My question is, can I install bbpress plugins on this type of setup? I’m looking to get for example youtube embedding etc. going on them as well as the b or img or other shortcodes.

Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Please clarify to me if I’ve misread this, but each user can only have ONE role, correct?

Which is why I wanted a way to do this without altering member roles. Because I have a fair quantity of members with a unique role already (I heavily use User Role Editor).

Like I said… I have two users who have a custom role already: StoreItems. So they can edit items in the store from a different plugin. Their bbpress membership is normal. One of these users will eventually have VIP and the other will have Special.

In order to do as you instructed, I will have to make some convoluted things happen.

I have latest bbPress installation but I get different permalink not like what you said above.

    Sample:

    Page http://themescommunity.com/faqs/

Forum http://themescommunity.com/ forums/forum/faqs/ -> I don’t have faqs forum this is just a sample. See the “/forums/forum/” that make different url.

Buy you saying that your http://www.domain.com/gaming/ redirected to http://www.domain.com/forums/forum/gaming/

Can you provide more details about it, real url maybe. Does it related to your wp permalinks setup?

    #111291

Thank you for the reply. I did try resaving the permalinks via wordpress main settings and then under the bbpress settings (changing prefix from forum to allforums and then back again) but it didn’t work. Hmmmmmmmm This one has me stumped.

Before I answer, I have a bbPress forum site that create for some times and I don’t really make it public. So there is no other post than mine and team (and spam that i deleted already). I still manage others projects with other team.

1 – Are there any anti-spam measures on sign-up? (I just had to enter an email address to register here)

Yes, I use WangGuard and reCaptcha for bbPress 2.0

2 – Do you have to have wordpress already installed? (I was thinking of testing bbPress by itself first)

Yes, because bbPress is a plugin

3 – When you have wordpress installed, can it load in ‘latest posts from the forum’ in wordpress pages? Such as on category listing pages or actual blog posts.

    Yes, sample:

    Newest topics at http://themescommunity.com/newest-topics/

Newest post … no idea yet since I don’t need it for now.

4 – Is bbPress server efficient? vB has always been good on that front.

vB still the best choice if you want the best forum IMHO

5 – Is it easy to customise? The style I will want to port over is at http://www.gameslurp.com

Yes, but not the same. The feel maybe can be achieve by styles but not the features.

6 – Does bbPress track unread/new posts? So any new posts can be shown in bold on the forum listing page if they contain new posts since the last visit/page refresh?

Some modification needed, but no idea yet since I don’t even think about yet.

Hope satisfy your need, not much but that my little knowledge about bbPress that I can share. I believe others will answer more and detailed.

    #111282

First latest bbPress don’t have custom theme, instead it (merge) using your WordPress theme. And off course you can edit how the way bbPress look by customize the styles of bbPress css but it will use your wp theme not your custom bbPress theme.

I believe bbPress theme that you download are for bbPress 1.x

    #111285

To be the truth, there aren’t latest completed bbPress documentation except the code itself (along with description on each code or function).

Since you are programmer that already satisfy your need IMHO.

    But I found a documentation at http://phpdoc.ftwr.co.uk/bbpress-plugin/

What I want is to personalize bbPress. For example, I want to show all posts, with a function to filter by user, area, etc… Is this possible ?

I think you can, but I’m not really sure since I haven’t do that yet.

I had noticed awhile back that logging into the admin side of my WPMS site was real slow. Today I had time to spend turning plugins on and off. After disabling bbpress I was back to normal. Any other reports of slow loading? Is this being addressed?

    Thanks!

    #111290

I have visit your links and you did have the problem.

Can you resave permalinks for both bbPress forums and WordPress, and try again.

Hi, I’m thinking about converting a vBulletin forum over to bbPress and have a few questions I hope someone can help with.

2 – Do you have to have wordpress already installed? (I was thinking of testing bbPress by itself first)

6 – Does bbPress track unread/new posts? So any new posts can be shown in bold on the forum listing page if they contain new posts since the last visit/page refresh?

Think that’s it for now – any input from people who have converted a vB forum would be great appreciated too.

I am also very much concerned about this. I run a WordPress site with almost 1000 users that is integrated with standalone bbPress 1.0.2 forum and everything is working just fine, so if anything went wrong with the migration to bbPress 2.x it would be a disaster. Is there a guaranteed safe way to do this? Or, if something goes wrong, how to undo the changes?

Hello, I would like some feedback on a small issue I have been having where when the user submits their registration they are not notified that their form has been submitted successfully, rather the same page just reloads.

The data is submitted fine so the user gets an email. But I am not sure where to start with actually telling them that everything went right, or redirecting to a different page saying that their registration has been received and they should check their email.

I am using the latest version of wordpress and bbpress Plugin. The rest of the theme works fine, I am not using 2011, and have followed the instructions for turning my custom theme into a bbpress compatible theme. Just having this one issue now.

    Thanks :)

What I want to do is have a few forums with different visibility and use functions. The problem is that every way I have found how to do this thus far requires me editing the user’s role, which is not what I want to do. This will quickly become too bloated for me. I would rather use some other kind of meta information.

The main reason is because I will something akin to the following:

-Most of the forums (100% visible to all members and public; only members may post)

-Special Forum (100% visible to all members and public; only SOME members may post)

-Restricted Completely Forum (0% visible to public and general members; SOME members may see and post)

It is important to mention that the members who can see the restricted areas are not necessarily admins or moderators. Also we use WP for all kinds of things aside from just bbPress and I heavily use User Role Editor already. I have, for example, two users who have a special role that allows them to edit items in the store. One of these users will eventually have access to the restricted forum; the other will not and will have no idea it exists. Neither of these users are moderators or admins on the fourm. You can see how at this point relying on user roles to accomplish this task is unrealistic.

What I wouldn’t mind doing is some kind of meta way of doing this. I have a few ideas but I wanted to ask if anybody else has done this or knows of a way to potentially do this before I start mucking around and potentially breaking things.

    Thank you!
