I already have Buddypress installed on my wordpress theme. After I install bbpress, I can’t access my dashboard anymore. When I click on dashboard I get this message:
Server error
The website encountered an error while retrieving http://www.
. It may be down for maintenance or configured incorrectly. How do I fix this?!
Good Day,
Please forgive me for being a complete Village Idiot in regards to WP + bbPress…
I am working on a 2nd site, it’s in development right now. I have BuddyPress installed and inactive, bbPress 2.1 RC 2 installed and active (working well so far, I might add).
I am also using the Custom-Community-Pro theme by ThemeKraft because the young lady that will manage this site is even more clueless than I am and needs the easy CSS updates this provides.
Per the below (copied in the text I’m referring too at bottom of post), I thought with 2.1 we no longer needed to make child themes, etc., for bbPress to match our WP theme. Am I missing something (most likely)? Do I need to still create a child theme or follow the other directions below on making bbP match my site seamlessly?
Again, my apologies if this has been addressed elsewhere…
Thanks and Regards ~ Alisa
Codex Home → Theme Compatibility
As of 2.1, bbPress has built-in theme support. All required elements such as front-end editing are included. This means that all functionality will work, even when a theme has no specific bbPress coding.
All bbPress compat can be overridden using a theme or another plugin. Check bbp-theme-compat template wrappers for what a normal theme should include.
To customize bbPress::
Create a new directory within your theme root called ‘bbpress’ for example: wp-content/themes/YOURTHEME/bbpress
Copy any files from bbPress/bbp-theme-compat/ to the new directory within your theme
Edit the new files for complete control over bbPress display in the theme
You can completely disable the included front-end elements by adding the following to your theme’s functions.php:
add_theme_support( ‘bbpress’ );
I recently installed bbPress and BuddyPress and thought that it would look like this forum… help! My forum can be found here: http://www.mykidlist.com/forums/
Right now it takes up too much room vertically and the columns are too skinny. Can someone please help me?
Topic: Buddypress and BBPress
I have a Buddypress site which I wish to take advantage of the sitewide forums facility.
I have done what I imagine to be all of the necessary setup required but still users cannot create new forums, replies or topics.
If anyone wishes to see my setup who may have some suggestions for me the website is http://www.socialmummys.com. The test account is Username: test Password: test. The tab to click on is sitewide forums.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
Garteth
The bbconverter is drastically improved and much faster in v2.1 RC2, but when importing from my bbpress1 install (> 360,000 posts) it always fails at some point by just stopping, and when I try to refresh the page it sends me back to the login screen.
My question is how to “resume” the import/convert process after leaving the dashboard and coming back. By checking the “restart” option it sounds like it will resume, but both with it checked and unchecked, when I start it over, it tries to re-import everything again and appends each forum with a /forum-name-1/ slug.
Is there a way to tell it to just import “replies” at this point? I’ve successfully brought over the forums and topics, but each has just the original post.
*Alternatively*, is there a way to reverse it so that the import starts with the most recent posts/replies/etc?? The 360k posts go back several years, and even though it times out on me, if it were importing the most recent first I’d at least have the last few months and my users would be much happier.
I’m running SVN builds of bbPress 2.1-rc2 and Buddypress 1.6-beta1
Some forum posts go through just fine. Others log in the Buddypress activity stream, but disappear and never show up on the forum. I’m going to go through my Apache logs to see if I can figure out more about what is happening. I’ll gladly open a bug in Trac, but first I want to make sure this is a bug and not something in my particular site config.
What can I do to help troubleshoot and vet this issue?

Hi,
I need your advice,
When I look at bbpress.org, I like this plugin very much because it look clean and nice.
But once, I install plugin (automatically version 2.0.3), I found many difference things e.g.
– My forums does not have the possibility to upload avatar picture
– The input box not like bbpress.org
– The forum list has many information messages which I don’t want to see
– The login, join, register are not shown
Please advise me how can I make it look same or similar to this forum. If there is the team to make change for me with small amount of money, please suggest me to.
Thank you.
I’ve searched all day for a solution that works for me to no avail. I have WordPress 3.4.1 installed. I then installed buddy press 1.5.6. After which i selected the sitewide forums which initiated the auto install of bbpress.
i then changed the slugs to make sure they are different.
i created a sample forum.
http://forum.pureoffroad.com/discuss/forum/atv-tires-and-wheels/
then created a sample topic:
http://forum.pureoffroad.com/discuss/topic/yamaha-atv-tires-and-wheels/
If i browsed to the website there are no forums or topics visible, even though following the direct link from the admin… those pages do exist.
i deleted the original ‘forums’ page created by the buddy press install, then created a new page called discussion boards and affiliated the forums with that page under the buddy press settings – thinking maybe a fresh page might show the forums and topics. Still nothing there:
http://forum.pureoffroad.com/discussion-boards/
i can’t get forums and topics to show up on the live site. Any ideas. I’ve searched all over the place and installed and uninstalled about 10 times today trying to get an installation that works.
Since BBpress is now a plugin to wordpress, how do I set it up so that bbpress is really the only thing running. In other words, I want to run bbpress as the index and have the look and feel look like bbpress v1?
I’ve looked all over the forums, and am not sure the answer is listed.
