Yeah, that is correct, the widget uses WordPress function that counts only published forums (in this case, that is only public visibility), the rest is not counted for this widget statistics.

WordPress creates a unique sequential number for every post, page, custom post type (which bbpress has as forums, topics and replies), every revision of the above, and many other plugins also use this mechanism.

so if a topic is created as 15623 it means there are 15622 pre-existing entries of the above in the database.

replies to topics are associated by another entry in the database giving the post’s ‘parent’

so numbers are entirely irrelevant in the scheme of bbpress.

    Hello,
I have updated bbPress plugin to the latest version and i noticed that my forum is not working correctly now, when i go in the main page of the forum it loads just one topic and the page is without CSS, just a blank page with the title of the topic and some infos like the date and the creator.
Then i tried to download some old versions of bbPress to install but i dont remember which version was installed before.
So i tried bbPress 2.5.4 (its the one that i think it was installed before) and with this one i cant reach any page of the forum, infact when i go in the forum section of wordpress dashboard it load just a blank page.
I tried already some versions of bbPress from 2.5.1 to 2.5.9 then 2.6.0 and the latest but nothing changes.
The only difference is that with 2.6.0 or next loads correctly the forum section in the dashboard and with 2.5.9 or prev doesnt.

What went wrong just updating and reverting the update?

Hello I have the latest wordpress and bbpress version.
Some of my users told me that they cant subscribe to a forum anymore. By deactivating all my plugins and activating them again I found out it is due to BP Plugin.

Do you know anything about that?
    Thanks a lot!

I’m redesigning my site, and for some reason, the child (sub) forums are not showing on the Forum Index under their parents. This happened on my first development site and after trying different things, I uninstalled bbPress and reinstalled it. They appeared. Now, when I moved my redesigned theme (which does have some template overrides) to a new dev site setup, once again my child forums are missing. However, uninstalling and reinstalling bbPress didn’t fix it this time.

I looked at the source code of the forum index and there is absolutely nothing there (no child forums).

Any ideas why they are not showing up again?

NOTE: I’m on WordPress 5.4.2, PHP 7.2. I switched to the twenty twenty theme, and the same thing happens…no child forums show under the parents. I also cannot give a link because my redesign is done locally on XAMPP.

If you need a forum to look a certain way, that can be done with WordPress and bbPress. bbPress look and feel can be fully customized.

that’s a WordPress core function, looks like you site is having issues.

Suggest you contact your host provider and see what advice they offer. You might need to roll back to a previous backup if the site is corrupted.

I have released a new free plugin for bbPress (it will remain as a free plugin, there will not be a Pro version in the future) for easier management of the topics and forums through the use of quick and bulk editing. Check it out here:

    GD Forum Manager for bbPress

In the plugin page you can see the video showing how the plugin works. If you have any suggestions for more edit actions to be implemented, let me know.

    Regards,
    Milan

Thanks Robin for a great help. I am coding my own theme, and code from this plugin helped me to find out the filter ‘bbp_subscription_mail_message’. Though function ‘bbp_pre_notify_subscribers’ and ‘bbp_post_notify_subscribers’ are not working. But its working great with the ‘wp_mail_content_type’. It is now returning all mails from wordpress to Html emails. Anyway atleast it solved my issue. Thanks!!

    Hi Robin,

I’m using the free version of Astra and Elementor.

However, I’ve spent far too long trying to figure this out so I purchased CSS HERO like Chook suggested and I must admit I’m so happy I did!

I imagine somehow it finds the root of all css on the site then somehow by putting in new css it overrides the current css (which is odd as when putting custom css into the wordpress customizer – additional css literally nothing will change on the site).

    Anyway.. it works!

    Thank you both,

    Tim

For some unknown reason, the Merge topics function starting return the error:

“There has been a critical error on your website”

“Learn more about debugging in WordPress”

So I setup a staging site and disabled all of the plugins and started re-activating them one-by-one. With everything deactivated the Merge topics button worked just fine. You could see the dropdown box with all of the available topics to choose from.

I got down to the last major plugins, “Paid Memberships Pro” and “Business Directory Plugin” and when I activate either one of these, the Merge topic button returns the “There has been a critical error on your website” message.

We are running WordPress version 5.4.2, PHP version 7.0.33 and bbPress version 2.6.5

Any suggestions on possible fixes or quick ways to troubleshoot further will be greatly appreciated!

I’m using a paid wordpress theme. I can modify code if that is needed. I haven’t changed any bbPress theme thus far. Thanks for your help.

    Hi Robin,

Thank you very much for replying!

Ah yes, so it’s the ‘forum index’ page that is displaying a different style to all the other pages.

I’ve used the short code: [bbp-forum-index] on the forum index page that I made in the WordPress ‘Add New’ page.

I’ve then linked the url: http://findgyms.co.uk/forums/ to the ‘Forums’ button in my header.

I hope this answers what you were asking?

In regards to the explanation in the linked item 8.. Well, that was a learning curve! I didn’t even know how to access the WordPress database but now I do!

If I’ve understand it correctly, this header issue is possible as the ‘topics’ pages in the forum posts have the correct header styling but the ‘index’ does not – from the description this says it could be due to the index page using the ‘about’ page style instead of the topics using the ‘posts’ style.

After looking in the database I think that the forum index page is using the correct ‘Astra’ theme, but not showing the correct css for my header that all my other pages are (even the ‘About’ page).

So I don’t think I would need to copy and rename the page.php file to bbpress.php (unless I wanted bbpress theme to be different to the astra theme – I think I’ve got that correct, if not apologies!)

I really appreciate any further help with this as this is becoming quite confusing for my extremely novice brain 🙂

    Thanks,

    Tim

    Hello all!

I’m using WordPress with the plugin bbPress slightly modified by me for my use.

    So far, so good.

The only thing I’m stuck at, is the fact that for certains functions to appear (like Approve Reply, Close Topic etc.) I need to refresh the page, otherwise the buttons won’t appear.

How can I implement a sort of a function in order to refresh the current page just after I clicked on it?
So that basically when I enter this page, it gets automatically refreshed (and so the buttons will appear).
I’m talking specifically about the Topics / Replies page, I really need to refresh the page over there.

    Thank you!

Here is a different plug in that does a reasonable job:

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress-post-topics/

After installing it, go to discussion settings and then set it to create a forum topic for each post, copy tags, etc. Then you have an option to apply settings to all existing posts.

I tried this on a test site and it worked pretty well. It did not do all the bookkeeping of reply counts correctly, but it did create appropriate topics for each post and import the comments and replies to them. Local bookkeeping services

It is also reversible as it does not delete either the posts or comments — if you deactivate the plug in your posts (which were unchanged anyway) and their comments are intact. You do still have a bunch of new topics in your target forum.

yes, I also removed the add-in

    Hi there,

Please bear with me here as I’m new to all this css stuff! I spent all of yesterday trying to find out what is going wrong..

After installing BB Press in my Astra Theme my header background colour, site title + tagline and sub menu + button have lost their formatting (or maybe more correctly termed style?).

    You can see here:

    http://findgyms.co.uk/forums/

This is compared to the header background colour and site title/tagline formatting in all my other pages (for example):

    Home

This confuses me even more because the forum topics have the correct header formatting like all my other pages:

    General Discussion

As I couldn’t understand where this issue lies I posted on the WordPress forum who then directed me here to ask the question 🙂

I’m building the pages through WordPpess dashboard as per this video example:

I’m using Elementor to build all my other pages.

    Can anyone help please?

    Many thanks in advance,

    Tim

p.s. I would like to add even though I’ve literally spent 8 hours trying to figure this out I think bbpress is an awesome addition so thank you to whoever put it out there!!
