Using WordPress 3.4.1, bbPress 2.1.2, TwentyEleven 1.4 (unmodified theme).

Widgets are correctly placed on non-bbPress forum pages (See screenshot)

But on any bbPress forum page, the widgets appear below the forum content (See screenshot)

What’s wrong? How can I fix this?

    WordPress version: 3.4.1
    bbPress version: 2.1.2

I am looking for a way to allow users to upload profile pictures on their bbPress profiles. Currently, even as admin, I see no option to upload an image to display my profile. I thought that uploading a user profile image would be a feature that is built in to bbPress, or that a standard bbPress plugin could be found to enable this functionality, but have not been able to find such a plugin.

Any guidance would be MUCH appreciated, and I thank you, the amazing bbPress community, in advance for your care and direction.

In addition to that, I have found another bug.

When you insert a new message, it tries to calculate its position by using bbp_get_topic_reply_count

The problem is that wordpress passes it through bbp_number_format filter and tries to convert it back to the integer.

In my case if a topic has 3000 replies, number format will be 3,000 and returned integer will become 3.

I google and not able to find a good Recent Bbpress posts plugin for my wordpress site.

I found this Dashboard Forum Activity, looks great! It comes with poster’s name and avatar!

However, it is limited to dashboard only!!!

Can someone please tell me how can I make use of the function and put it at my sidebar?

    Thank you.

I’m having the same problem as outlined here:

bbPress 2.1 -Can't do anything except for posting a topic & reply in group forum

Editing group form posts in Buddypress 1.6.1 works well, same with editing sitewide forums in bbPress 2.1. But once you combine them, you can’t edit group forum posts.

    It’s a known issues now:
    https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/1906

Hope they’re able to come up with a solution very soon

    Hi John

I don;t understand? I have a wordpress site, using bbpress as a Forum (I don;t really get bbpress, is it just a forum?). I would rather not reinstall a whole new forum. I have a self hosted version of wordpress, creating a new site with buddy press is not an option for me (it’s a social network building block right?)

Surely there is Pm functionality for this forum?> It’s a forum!

Firstly if you only see bbPress as a WordPress integrated forum software package in the traditional sense of what other forum software looks like then please step outside of that box, it is far more flexible and powerful than just that.

Take a look at how PostDesk have uniquely integrated forums into their site and check out in particular the ‘featured sites’ at https://bbpress.org/about/examples/ showing what can be accomplished with theming in bbPress.

That all said, I also see merit in having the option of a traditional forums hierarchical category sub-category forum layout for those who do want that feature/layout option available.

I have a few ideas already and would love to hear your ideas and feedback.

    Cheers,

    Stephen aka @netweb

Not sure what the answer to your question is, but for what it’s worth the Simple Local Avatars plugin works flawlessly with bbpress.

    Hello!

I am using the HTML5 Reset Blank Theme. I am creating a WordPress Theme from scratch….

    I have two issues:
1). Can I use bbPress with an HTML5 theme?

2). After I active it, I really get lost from that point. Can anyone please tell me what the next step is? Because I am lost. When I do go to All Pages, I see at the bottum the name of the forum I had created. But do I do with it? I am lost.

Sorry for the double post. I don’t see the edit button. I guess its disabled after a certain amount of time? any ways essentially I want to theme BBPress. The problem is that the theme needs to be apart of the WordPress theme (I created) so that if you install the theme, and you have bbpress installed it will be able to use that theme instead of default which I think is a theme compatible … theme

think of it this way: WordPress comes with two themes when you install it. 2010 and 2011. you can go out and get new ones or modify this one. what if you want your own. You write it from the ground up.

This is what I wan’t to do with bbpress – a “theme” so to speak. So that when you install bppress you can “use as default” or “click to enable this look” (which in my case would be on by default) how would I achieve this? pure css?

what if I wanted to create a new “display forums” template or a new “login” template? is there documentation on “themeing bbpress?” and making that theme the default? Hope that makes better sense….

So um…. What’s up with this?

Im using the bbpress widget in wordpress, and when certain pages do not have a listing on them, “phantom page links” appear from out of nowhere. I have the widget placed in the center section of the footer.

Does anyone know what’s going on?

    Sure thing.

The boxes are CSS and our own design but you can use the Vote It Up plugin for votes, although it hasn’t been updated in ages.

You’ll need to customise and theme it. BTW, we are using BBPress 2.0.2 and not the latest but it should work.

    Good Luck…

    Hi

I just installed bbpress on our wordpress site, but the users cannot edit their own topics (no edit menu in the bar)
I checked then the permissions with the plugin “User Role Editor” but I saw nothing weird in it.
We tried to install another WordPress/bbpress on another machine: same issue !

    Thanks for your help !!

Hey bbpress community, I’m excited to say I launched my new website yesterday, its running the 2.1.2 plugin version of WordPress, but I’ve modified its templates pretty heavily, and added some custom functions. You can check it out at: http://tamrielfoundry.com Some cool features of my bbpress are:

    • Dropdown forum index in navigation menu
    • User profile integration with custom profile pages
    • Forum quotes
    • User signatures for forum posts and comments

I’ve got plans for a bunch more features I’d like to build in, but I’m just happy the site is live for now. Thanks for all the hard work developing this awesome forum plugin. Let me know what you think of the site!

“The WordPress page will always win”? The bbPress settings’ “Forum base” always overrides a page in WordPress by the same slug for me. This has ALWAYS been a problem for me, on any WordPress installation. I use the Origin theme currently, if that helps any…

    #116936

I still don’t understand. Just make them the same slug? The WordPress page will always win.

I want the option for it to go to a page of my choosing. People often don’t like the default forums-archive page (which ends up being the root/home page), so they create a WordPress page with bbPress shortcodes in it to be the forums’ home page. The problem is, when they do that, the breadcrumbs root link, which says “forums”, doesn’t go to that page. it goes to the archive page, or forums-index– which is the page they were trying to avoid.

In the receiving end, bumping topics here is really annoying, so I’d recommend not doing it. 🙂 These forums don’t move quickly enough to necessitate it, and we’re all volunteers that will help you whenever we have the opportunity to do so. A bump, even with friendly intentions, just ends up making us feel bad because we took a few days off, and making us look like we’re lazy to everyone else.

Also, cryptidwolf is incorrect, and offers nothing to this conversation that helps you with your issue(s) of which it seems like there are 2; the first being you can’t get the forum index sorted, and that once you do, you want it to look differently than the default templates look.

The way I suggest fixing it, is to create your own custom page template with the look and feel that you want your index to have. It’s no different than a WordPress theme; if you want it to be different than it is, you sometimes have to do it yourself.

The forum/category sections are a layout that a few people are working on, and certainly could be a bbPress core feature. Since bbPress has always been topic and content focused, the forum layout isn’t something that gets a lot of attention. Sorting out the forum/category hierarchy and layout is actually a pretty complex set of loops to automate, as it involves checking depth and walking a tree of forums that could potentially be outside of the current scope.

I haven’t bothered looking too far into it since it’s something that will take concentrated time and effort, and there are other things bbPress needs before that becomes the top priority to put time towards. If you, or anyone else wants to put the time in because it’s important to you, I’d happily review and commit a patch to make sure it’s included in future versions.

I know this isn’t the best set of answers you were looking for, but it’s all I have for now.

While creating new topics from list of topics I am getting this error (red outlined box):”ERROR: Are you sure you wanted to do that?”and no topic is added. I am able to add topics through Dashboard/Topics interface (admin console) WordPress: Version 3.4.1bbPress: Version 2.1.2 I am using custom theme but tried with default “twenty ten” theme. Result is the same – no topic is created and error is shown. Have no idea where it comes from. I suspect this started happening after WP 3.4.1 installation. Any ideas?

As per the banner when creating a new topic, we need some more info please.

    > If asking for help, please include your WordPress version, bbPress version, and a link to your site.
    > If you have a problem while using a non-bundled theme, check if it happens with TwentyTen or TwentyEleven.
