Well, thats out of the way.

I switched from phpBB3 to bbpress 1.0.2 because I couldn’t stand the huge administration section and the constant spam. In addition I had problems integrating phpbb with wordpress (yes, I tried, wp-united and hated it).

It took me roughly 2 days to implement the forum and wordpress the way it is now and I converted the data from phpbb to bbpress. Lost a lot of users because they couldn’t convert for whatever reason but I managed to keep all the data.

Does anyone know if this still works with the current incarnations of wordpress and bbpress? I’ve tried it but it comes up with nada (using the default bbpress template with <?php echo bb_list_pages();?> added).

Can’t explain why one thing worked for me with the footer and another works for you. I get lost trying to follow the divs, so I just kept fooling around with it until it worked. Not exactly the right way to go about it I know, but…

I took a look at your site and saw no difference between the footer on the front page and the other pages. So I don’t know what the issue is there.

With regard to editing the two style sheets, I did not have to mess with much but the login field. It crowded the line below, so I fixed it. I just looked for things on all pages in WordPress and bbPress that weren’t right and changed what I had to. But the idea is that you want to merge the two style sheets. So far as I know you could put all of the styles in one sheet if you wanted and eliminate the other. I think the point is that you can’t have different styles for the same elements without it causing a problem somewhere. As I recall I made no changes to the WordPress style.css. I made all changes in the bb-style.css and bbPress theme.

Your site is looking good to me. Is Firebug available for Opera? If not, that edit styles bookmarklet I mentioned in my documentation is very helpful in making changes to styles.

I’ve also now increased php memory limit to 96M as well as tried with no plugins activated in WordPress.

It also doesn’t work if I prebuild the tables with data from the original forum (from before moving to MT). The data is there in theory but nothing shows on step two.

My date? I’ve removed bbPress more than once. I’ve also removed the bb-config.php file and copied the information out of the working WordPress install as well as going through the installer.

I’ve downloaded a fresh copy of bbPress from the site as well as getting it from Trunk.

No idea what my date may have to do with it.

I solved the problem, the issue was about using xampp locally. The solution is

The solution is to turn on mod_rewrite by editing apache/conf/httpd.conf. Just remove the comment in front of the line (around line #118) and restart Apache.

Personally i prefer the 1.0.2 version, both of them are fast and light, some say 0.9.2 is faster but even if it is faster i can´t really notice it.

with version 1.0.2 i can switch the pretty permalink function on very easily, i was unable to do that with version 0.9.2, in fact i was unable to turm it on and spent a good amount of time in the support forums trying what everyone said (multiviews, htacess etc etc etc), the permalink structure is a bonus point for me in any forum script (i dont like all those cripthgraphic urls).

visually (user side) there aren’t many differences, from the admin prespective version 0.9.2 has a “wordpress retro look” version 1.0.2 looks like wordpress 3.0 .

version 1.0.2 added a few functions/pluggins to the core that were missing or needed a pluggin in 0.9.2.

if you use wordpress, version 1.0.2 can be integrated a lot easier than 0.9.2.

There’s been some talk about forking it but in my opinion the next version (pluggin) will be what everyone wanted, better integration at several levels, no backpress dependency, bbpress admin area inside wordpress etc etc)

i tried several forum scripts and i think nobody will be angry if i write a few lines about them:

1- phpbb3 – fairly simple to setup but way too much options in the admin area, nothing difficult as it is understandable but no “pretty permalink structure”, there was a pluggin but you need to reinstall it with every new version and its a pain to even set it up.

2- SMF – simple to setup but its kind of complicated to get around all those options, to much stuff.

3- PunBB/FluxBB – Original forum script and fork – both were a breeze to install, PunBB had native permalink structure and FluxBB had a pluggin but in my opinion the community has lost his “power” forking PunBB split the community but i could be wrong.

4- Simple press – the best forum pluggin for wordpress, had most stuff i wanted (clean urls, integration with wordpress at all levels, theme, users etc) nice community forum, international language support but it was sluggish, there were a few tips on how to optimize its speed but never managed to optimize it, otherwise a great forum script for wordpress.

5- MyBB – easy to instal with a easy to understand administration area, great community, lots of pluggins, themes, international support, fast forum system, clean urls (through pluggin) etc, if the bbpress project doesnt take off in next version it willprobably be my choice.

I’m installing on a MT GS and have WordPress 3.0.1 already working. I want to install bbpress into the same DB ad the WP site. Once I upload the files and hit /forum it asks me for the DB information which I put in. It seems to connect to the DB just fine but then just gives me a white screen with no errors.

Thanks for your reply. Yes, if I select year/month/title option, it goes to http://localhost/wordpress/forums/ (which is bbpress) page, which I wanted.

However, I have another page, like about and staff.. and they do not exist like forum, so I need them to be like default?p=123

Currently, if I click about page, it tries to go to http://localhost/wordpress/about/ and it throws Object not found! error because I do not have about page. How can I solve this problem?

I am using the default WordPress and Kakumei themes at the moment. It seemed that bbPress was very sluggish, so I activated the default theme in order to check the load on the server and found that it was significantly less with the default theme than with the integrated theme. In my case it’s a personal call in favor of performance. This is a well known trade off about which there is plenty of information available.

Having an integrated and non-integrated theme created no issues of which I am aware. Unless I am forgetting something the only change to the WordPress theme was the call to the bbPress style sheet in header.php. All other changes are made to the bbPress theme. So either remove, comment out, or leave the call – I don’t think it hurts performance. I commented it out so that I can do some testing. I may be wrong about something here, but it’s all working for me at the moment.

I followed these steps to integrate WordPress with bbPress. However, there appeared some errors that I could not fix.

1. Since I am using the theme “Twenty Ten”, I tried to use the page template One column, no sidebar, but could not. Is there any way?
2. The sidebar does not appear in your place.
3. The footer in both WordPress and in bbPress, was disfigured. How can I fix it?
4. The bbPress admin pages comes to a blank page.

Follow the steps as per this – WordPress bbPress Integration

and keep the WordPress plugin for integration activated.

a) I unzipped wordpress 3.0.1 under /wordpress/.

b) I created the necessary mySQL db and username for wordpress.

c) I entered the db, user, and password into wp-config.

d) I unzipped “bbpress” into a folder inside of /wordpress/ called /bbpress/.

e) I created the necessary mySQL db and username for bbpress.

f) I entered the db, user, and password into bb-config.

g) I enabled multi-site on my wordpress by adding the necessary lines of code to wp-config.

h) I finished up configuring the network for wordpress.

i) I randomized my cookies in wp-config.

j) I went to /bbpress/ and started to configuring it. I specified my website and URL to be /wordpress/.

k) I entered my cookies (including SALT – 8 total), db, user, and password into the /bbpress/ installation website.

l) I ran the installation of /bbpress/ and got no errors – everything is good up to this point.

However, the cookies don’t work! When I log into /wordpress/, it does NOT log me into /wordpress/bbpress/. And vice versa – when I log into /wordpress/bbpress/ it does not log me into /wordpress/ !

What is the actual full path to wp-load.php, and what are you using in your require or include statement?

Ok, so I got impatient, dropped the database, removed bbPress from wordpress root, restarted my apache2 and mysql services, cleared the browser cache, closed the browser, created a new database, unzipped bbPress into the wordpress root, logged in as the new user, logged out, and after logging out that php end tag is back.

No plugins, no integration – no modifications of any kind, just out of the box bbPress. It’s a mystery to me.

It always seems to load homesite/community/wp-load.php instead of homesite/wp-load.php when you test it out. Any thoughts?

I’m having trouble getting it to recognize the path to my wp-load.php file. I’ve tried many combinations but none seem to be found, they all end up in a warning atop the page, even tho they still load.

Several days ago I did a new install of bbpress in my wordpress root on localhost/, checked it out and all looked fine. My intention is to work through the integration of wp and bbp, but I didn’t have time to work with it then, so I went back today to try it out and find that there’s a misplaced “?>” displaying at the top of every page – before the header. I also noticed that the footer on the Appearance page of the admin panel runs across the Kakumei-blue theme so that the activate link is inaccesible.

I’ve messed around with it for a few hours – saved my bb-config.php, deleted bbpress/ and replaced it from the zip; checked permissions; repaired my mysql database; restarted my apache2 and mysql services; checked the header.php; cleared my browser cache… I’m at a loss to understand this.

I have had a wordpress website now for some time and think its amazing first off.

My website is a gaming website for online gaming of all kinds, I wanted to install a high end discussion board/forum and after trying out a few ‘simple to install’ ones I wanted to get bbpress.

After hours of trying I finally got everything working!!

The problem I am facing is now getting it to ‘Fit’ to my current theme. Atm it just looks like alot of misplaced writing etc.

I think it may have something to do with the theme editing as i wasnt 100% sure what to put in there. I replaced bb_get_header(); ?> for get_header(); ?> <div id=”content class=”narrowcolumn” role=”main” and like wise for the footer but not certain if it is the right layout for my theme
