Topic: Notifications Widget
Hiya,
I apologize if this is the wrong section but I have a quick inquiry for you all. Is there a bbpress plugin that creates a notifications widget. So basically say a standard user is sent a private message from another user but I’ve removed my admin bar…. is there an existing plugin to create a widget that would display notifications which I could place on my page to show that private message is waiting to be read in a similar way to the admin bar?
Alternatively how would one go about editing the admin bar to remove the content to the left like the wordpress logo or “visit site” / dashboard tachometer icon?
Thanks in advance to all who respond!

I have searched the forum and can’t find anywhere to find the BBPRESS importer. I have an old PHPBB forum that I’d love to move over to my brand new BBPRESS one but eveyr post says the importer is under TOOLS>IMPORT and I don’t see that listed. Am I missing a plugin? Can I get the steps listed?
Topic: Page can’t be displayed
I set up a new WordPress blog today and set it up with no changes. I may not ever use the blog but wanted the bbpress forum. I added the plugin and created several test forums. But every time I create a forum I cannot view it – I get “This page can’t be displayed”. I’ve tried just about everything you recommend (everything I can understand) and even deleted the plugin and reinstalled it. Nothing seems to work.
My main website: http://www.portwennonline.com
Wordpress blog: http://www.portwennonline.com/blog3/
Two of the forums I created:
http://portwennonline.com/blog3/forums/forum/newesttest/
http://portwennonline.com/blog3/forums/forum/testforum/I’ve been searching for a solution on this for hours, to no avail, and it seems like such a simple thing:
All I want to do is have my website show other users’ basic info when I click their name in a forum post.
For example, if I write a forum post, another user should be able to click on my name and see the profile info that I’ve added to my profile in the backend–e.g. “Contact Info” and “About Yourself” (email address, website, biographical info)–on a page on my site.
Right now, when they click on my name, or when I click on another forum user’s name, it sends to our 404 page.
What gives? Pretty much any site I’ve ever used that has multiple users allows you to click their name to see their bio. It seems insane that WordPress/bbPress doesn’t have this basic feature. And I haven’t even been able to find a plugin or any kinds of codes to make this happen. I’ve found all kinds of plugins that allow you to add additional user fields (like social media info) or prettier front-end login pages, but nothing that just displays another user’s contact/bio info.
Thanks in advance for your help.

Topic: The status of bbPress?
So, I’m thinking of using bbPress for a forum I’m about to create. But, the more I read on this forum, the closer I get to the conclusion that bbPress is a dead project and should be buried. I’m writing this because I want to know if it really is as bad as it seems and in that case, why?!
So, I want my guest users to have the option to start forum threads and answer to topics, so far so good (but that’s about it). I also want the guest users (non logged in users) to be able to “quote” previous answers – a very basic forum function that is still not included in the most recent bbPress release?! I have searched this forum for answers about a quote function and as far as I can see it was promised to be a feature in the upcoming versions ABOUT 3½ YEARS AGO?! I’ve tried 3 plug ins to accomplish this without success. The Quote feature shows up if I’m logged in as admin, but not for guests. Same results for all the plug ins I’ve tried. Why is this not a standard feature yet?!
Another thing discussed here is the permalink function, the option to use wildcards to control how the forum permalink structure looks. There’s even a fantastic request about how this feature is supposed to work here: https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/2258 The priority is set as “low” though this is a critical and very useful feature?! Nothing has happened. WHY?!
It seems that this is the same for all requests for new features on this forum. A lot of users are asking the developers for the most basic functions any forum on the net should have, but 2, 3 even 4 years later, nothing has happened. Again, as far as I can see, this laziness and ignorance showed by the developers is always defended by a phrase that goes something like “bbPress is a basic forum and you can expend it to your hearts content with plug ins!” but that is not the case. There are so few plug ins for bbPress, and even fewer good ones that is currently being updated on a regular basis.
So, what the f*ck is going on with bbPress? Is there any point in considering bbPress when creating a forum with more >10 users? Why is notning happening?! Also, how would I go about fixing the Quote function problem. “Quote option” isn’t showing to any guest with any plug in.
Oddly, my “page attributes” and even plug-ins don’t seem to work on my forum page.
I click “Template: Full page width” under Page Attributes, but the forum page doesn’t become full width.
I also have a plug-in remover for “Title Remover”, I select it, but the title “Forum” remains on top of my forum webpage. Also odd (and maybe a clue) , when I navigate to the forum page, the “edit page” option is missing from the top wordpress navigation bar. It is present on all other pages.
I can still edit the page by going to the dashboard – pages – forum (edit page), but as stated above, the edits I do for Page attributes and plug-in selections don’t seem to take effect on the webpage.
Why might the page attributes and plug-ins not be working on the forum page?
Thanks
Topic: Cleaning Up Forum Sub-Forum
Okay….so I was on the WordPress forums thinking it was the bbPress forums….I know, I know. DUH!!
Complete NOOB here. I’m looking to create a forum based community.
I’m using Twenty Ten them and have started created my forum with bbPress.I have a “Master Forum” with with sub-forums “North”, “Central” and “South”. It is displaying as:
Location
North (0, 0), Central (0, 0), South (0, 0)
I’m assuming the “(0,0)” after each sub-forum title is the number of topics and replies. I want to remove those on the main forum page so it looks like:
Location
North
Central
SouthAny ideas?
