Where is bbPress's style sheet?

Published on April 6th, 2012 by Ratspeed

Where is bbPress’s style sheet?

Simple question, yes, but after having looked through all the child theme stuff, I’m expecting a very complex answer.

I’m simply trying to change the size and shape of the login widget’s text fields. It’s not fitting in my theme’s sidebar. (The theme that I use is Dandelion v268.) This has turned into a long-winded goosechase of installing and uninstalling theme files, templates, changing obscure comment fields, etc. I simply want the style sheet and change bbp-username’s style. That’s all. Help? :(

Activating bbPress plugins when using WordPress

Published on April 6th, 2012 by MTPrower

I have WordPress with bbPress 2.0 installed as a plugin. I’m looking for some basic functionality:

1. The ability to upload an avatar from the front-end, so the WordPress back-end can remain hidden

2. Topic and forums icons that can change depending on whether the user has read the topic(s) yet

3. Signature and custom bbcode support.

I can’t seem to be able to add any real functionality to bbPress simply because bbPress isn’t the stand-alone version. There is no page to activate bbPress plugins that I downloaded, so what do I do? Without plugins, bbPress is nearly useles…

Upload Avatar via edit profile section

Published on April 5th, 2012 by marques_uk1

Hi everyone,

I have recently installed BBPress plugin on my website, which I use with WordPress.

I’ve been searching for a solution to allow my members to be able to upload their own avatars via the user edit section on BBPress.

At the moment the defualt WordPress avatar is used which looks rather boring. I have found two plugins that have been built for this purpose however I can’t seem to get either to work.

These are https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/avatar-upload/ and https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/bavatars/

avatar-upload plugin requires a number of changes and even when I follow these steps I can’t get it to work. Bavatars doesn’t work either when I follow the WP option.

Does anyone know of a simple solution?

Thanks in advance

let's try this again … (private forums!)

Published on April 5th, 2012 by Nate

two questions . . . i’m building a site for a non-profit that offers peer support, etc., so the forums must be private – read & write permissions only to registered members. i don’t think i need anything as intuitive as s2member, curious if there’s a simpler way to accommodate?

thanks!

Fatal Error when adding forum short code to page that is also forum base

Published on April 5th, 2012 by Pairmybeer

Created page – support – and assigned it as the forum base. Then added the short codes:

  • Oh, bother! No topics were found here.

You must be logged in to create new topics.

404 admin akismet alpha Anonymous avatar bbpress breadcrumbs buddypress bug cookies css custom database email error Forum forums freshness getting started help htaccess i18n import install installation integration keymaster language localization login menu Moderation mod_rewrite notifications Page pagination password permalink Permalinks permissions PHP phpBB plugin plugins post posts private problem profile redirect register registration replies reply roles RSS search shortcode Shortcodes sidebar spam Sticky tags template templates theme themes TinyMCE topic topics translation upgrade URL user username users widget WordPress wpmu

And get a fatal error when trying to view page http://blog.webactivedirectory.com/support/

Created a new page customer-support with the same short code and renders exactly as planned. http://blog.webactivedirectory.com/customer-forums/

Switch the forum base to “customer-support” on the settings page and that page has fatal error and support page renders correctly.

I played with the short codes and pages do not get fatal error when only using:

  • Oh, bother! No topics were found here.

But the page does not render correctly.

Am I missing something completely?

Can't add text on main forum page (not as a topic)

Published on April 5th, 2012 by ericaski

I want to add one sentence to the top of the Forum page (under the “Forum”) title. I put the text in the html/visual editor on the forum “page”, however, it is not appearing on the site. I do not want to post this as a topic. Please advise?

Spiel on the front page…

Extremely trivial I know, but:

bbPress is forum software with a twist from the creators of WordPress. Create a simple and engaging community to compliment your WordPress powered website or blog.

“Compliment” fits grammatically and is even semantically sensible… but assuming the overriding purpose of bbPress is not merely to enable site visitors to shower website administrators with praise, it’s “complement” you’re after!

Removing log of edits to forum

Published on April 4th, 2012 by Biswadip

On this bbpress forum page of my WordPress site:

http://www.readingmarx.net/?topic=circulation

there is a a log of edits:

This reply was modified 80 days ago by Bis.

This reply was modified 80 days ago by Bis.

This reply was modified 80 days ago by Bis.

etc. etc.

How do I remove this feature from this page or from my settings for any page?

Thank you

Bis

BB Press Forum with UAM (User Access Management) Plugin

Published on April 4th, 2012 by ericaski

I created a forum that is intended to be only visible to logged in users who have been elevated to a higher access role (“Members”). http://ctos-toa.org/wp/

I use the User Access Manager plugin to designate the roles/groups. When logged into the site in Admin, everything works fine (user can have access to all forum topics and post). When not logged in at all, it is fine (users can’t access anything).

However, when a user is logged in as a “member”, with bb_participant access, the forum topics do not show up in the right column widget of the home page, and when they click on Forum page, it says “Oh bother! No new topics…”

If this is a question for the UAM plugin developer, I will go there. I am new at WP, so am just not sure and would appreciate any advise.

If you need to login as a “Member” to see what happens, use test:

user name: erica

password: test
