    Hello everybody,

I tried to install bbpress on my webspace, but ran into a few problems and seem to struggle getting it running.

First of all: I’m using the alpha 1.0, because i want to integrate it into WP 2.61 installation. The directories are structured like this:

    root

    root/blog (my WP installation)

    root/blog/bbpress (desired bbpress installation)

I have downloaded the files yesterday, have modified my bb-config.php (double checked the keys, so they match my WP-keys, even tried out with keys that contain no special characters). After uploading i went through the installation process (where i had to reenter the keys) and filled the two cookie salts, which I found in my WP-Installation.

Everything went well, up to the point, where the log is printed out, which states: “Forum cannot be created.” (Any other .log entries point out no problem)

If I now try to load the page, I get a redirecting loop (hope it’s a good translation).

I even tried to clear all database tables, and installed again, but the same problem occurs.

I hope that someone maybe has a hint, what I am doing wrong.

    Thanks

    Felix

I’ve never done it myself but I believe you first have to put the translation es_ES.mo file into bb-includes/languages directory.

Then you go into bb-config.php` and change the BBLANG setting:

    define('BBLANG', 'es_ES');

    Here is more info:

    and the file:

bmg1227: I think the actual text appears in /bb-includes/template-functions.php either line 139 or 1063, depending on if you want “Add New Topic” or “Add New »”. The template file holds the reference that makes that appear in the page, but the text is in this file I believe.

Not sure if adding a translation/language file would translate that text or not.

The SVN repository is already managed by the WP localization team that do the same fot bbpress, cause I’m the one that havs commit access and i was in hospital i want’s ablet o upload the updated version that will be revised soon and committed to SVN.

on entrans.wordpress-it.it (in futuro entrans.bbpress.it as iI said to Matt during Milan WordCamp there will be a collaborative translation for all the automattic products.

    Hi Thomas,

Sorry for the inconvenience. Web hosting problems.

Here’s another download URL for the Danish language file for bbPress 0.8.2.1: http://munksgaard.net/?dl_id=1

Sure, I will have a go on translating bbPress 0.9.0.2 whenever I get the time…

bbPress has many translations, but AFAICT only one may be active at a time, set through $BBLANG

    Am I wrong about this?

    Assuming I’m not wrong…

It would be nice to enable users to select a language (or have it set for them through content negotiation).

Perhaps this could be done via a plugin a la http://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/user-timezones/

    Hi there!

Why don’t use plugin authors gettext localization as bbPress itself does?!

I start testing plugins for the german community at bbpress.de and find out that absolutely NO plugin could be used without direct translation. That’s a pitty and I really wonder about this situation :-(

The bbpress-i18n repository is organized by {language}_{COUNTRY} directories.

Is the correct directory for your translation

    uz_UZ

    ?

Swedish translation in the making now :)

    #3136

I intend to make some Swedish translations for bbpress, but I can’t find any updated .pot files for 0.9.0.1. Latest .pot file in SVN seams to be 0.8.3.1.

We build a bbpress forum integrated with WordPress and a custom template at http://www.wiatrak.nl/forum

We also have a Polish translation available for the forum if anyone is interested.

    #63576

    @sambauers

something like this if I remember well:

    > msgcat fr_FR_wp.po fr_FR_bbp.po > fr_FR_merged.po

Then I used poEdit.exe to manually edit the conflicting translations (same key with different translation between the two packages) – only about 30 of them.

Then I saved in poEdit, which automatically creates the corresponding .mo file.

Had a hard time finding how to merge .po files on the Web, seems there’s not so many other ways to do it. This one worked for me.

I’ll create a special page on my blog to document this if I have time and get lotsa requests.

WOuld be nice if sometimes you bump the .pot SVN too, so we thta do translation can jump on it earlier before the release.

Thanks for sharing this… I am sure it will help others…

I added an “internationalization” tag to try to help people find it.
