    Hi All!

I’m getting quite far and have overcome a few problems myself which has been fun, but I am stuck with the style issue.

My theme and test is here: http://www.coffeesocial.co.uk/forums/forum/coffee-social-forum/

I am running a theme called Continuum, with a child theme that adds a few extra bits to the main theme.

I got as far as installing the files from the settings folder into my child theme folder (actually functions.php and style.css were overwritten because Filezilla did not warn me!!!)

Was that supposed to happen? Because it messed up the theme (although bbPress page style looked miles better) it still did not look much better than what it currently is: http://www.coffeesocial.co.uk/forums/forum/coffee-social-forum/

That aside, I went back and replaced the functions and style files with the correct ones from the original child theme to make my website look and function right.

Can I merge the two files style and functions to then include both necesarry code elements to let my theme and bbPress look correct?

It would be stupid to let the bbPress style and funcions overwrite becasue then it would mess up everyones themes. What did you guys do to get it working on a custom theme (i.e. not the one that comes with bbPress).

    Cheers :)

There’s a “Zip Archive” link on the bottom of https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/browser/branches/plugin that will download the latest version. I hope you are aware 2.1 is a development version, not a released version of bbPress.

Hello, I’ve just set up bbPress 1.03

I’m having two issues, number 1 is that No emails go out when people attempt to register for the site

Number two is all of my posts show up as anonymous, and the threads show up as empty.

I am hosting this out of my own home, running the latest Apache and MySql through XAMPP.

I have test bbpress locally using my theme (it’s premium theme) and I have the same problem as you are (sidebar displays below the main content). I will follow this thread.

Hey guys, I just wanted to say thanks for creating this plugin. The possibilities with it are only limited by a persons skill with php, and of course, their imagination.

Using this plugin, and attempting to build a website around it has dramatically increased my understanding of WordPress, PHP, and everything in between. Before I started tinkering around with this thing I didn’t even know what an array was, nor did I have the slightest understanding of loops, queries, actions, or functions. If I needed something on my website, I used plugins, which often slowed everything down quite a bit and created a ton of conflicts. Now I’m not only designing the website I wanted, but I’m understanding it’s architecture.

Though I am a long way from finishing it, I feel like I actually have the ability complete it on my own, which never would have happened without this plugin.

So thank you again to the creators of bbpress, you truly are the last surviving Jedi Masters of wordpress.

I’m new to bbPress and I am testing it right now to see if it is a good replacement candiate for a phpbb forum I own.

I’ve set up version 2.0.2 on WP 3.3.

I’ve ‘done’ the extensive installation video on YT, which was very helpful.

Although I really appreciate the cleanliness of bbPress, my forum members really need a few addtional features, like bbCode and PM’s.

I found both plugins, but they claim not to be compatible with bbPress 2.x

Also they’re referring to an installation system I don’t get, where is ppPress ‘myplugins’ directory located?? I cannot seem to find this folder, where should it be?

Thanks for helping me out! (and a version compatible indicator in the plugin section of this site would be very helpful for beginners like me!)

Hey John. Sorry just spotted your reply….

We’re getting nailed by spam and its not good. Michelle was going to post the following but I decided to copy it here instead:

We have a huge problem with spam! (40+ posts a day) We have tried quite a few things to try and get rid of this problem but nothing seems to be working.

Currently our site is running the latest version of BB-Press we have the Akismet plugin activated and running we also have the Stop Spammer Registrations reCAPTCHA plugin for new user registration.

We have in the past tried the reCaptcha for bbPress 2.0 this didn’t make much difference and we couldn’t use this plugin with the spammer registration one so have removed it for now.

We are running out of ideas and things to try so are reaching out to you guys for some help or suggestions, have we missed something or can anyone recommend a solution to all this spam.

My solution and best thinking involved finding the spammers in the real world and removing their hands as punishment :P

I have made a forum for heavy metal music here: http://metalwebonlineradio.com/Metalforums/

The forum is integrated with Buddypress. I have removed the Buddypress group option, and use it as a forum only. I have not modefied other than the css yet.

I would like to have a latest post link on top or a exerpt of the latest 5 posts, but I have not found where to mod in the theme files.. I would like to find some good tutorials on bbpress mods, and I would appriciate if any of you shared a good tutorial link..

I use the standalone version of bbPress (1.1).

According to the instructions found on this forum I did the following:

    – downloaded most recent NL .po and .mo

    – created a new directory my-languages in bbPress

    – edit the config-php and added nl_NL at BB_LANG

Most strings are then translated, but not everything.

E.g. on the front page of the forum:

    – Search

    – Latest Discussion,

    – Main theme etc.

I cannot find these strings in the po file.

I’m working on a multisite network using latest stable versions of Buddypress and BBPress.

I’m building a child theme to bp-default, but I can’t find the right template files for the forum par of the site.

    Is it really:

    wp-content/plugins/bbpress/bbp-themes/bbp-twentyten

Or should I be looking in:

    wp-content/plugins/buddypress/bp-forums/bbpress

    Or perhaps somewhere else?

@shoo, 169k is nothing… I’ve got on with 3.5M posts and estimated it’ll take almost a week to import… lol Got another one running right now that’s got 300k and it’s been running 22 hours and is maybe 2/3 the way done.

The problem is with the meta updates and the way WP stores that kind of stuff there’s a boat load of inserting going on for every post. I’m hoping to take a look at the script in a few days to see if I can help it along.

@citizenkeith, if you are using the lastest version of the converter it should be pulling the correct dates. At least it is for VB now, where it wasn’t on the last version.

I believe that I have installed bbPress correctly and setup the shortcodes so that the forum displays on my site (both the topics, login, and registration). But the problem is that once I believe I’m logged in and I click on a topic to try to add something, it will not let me. It says this:

“You must be logged in to create new topics.”

Can anyone tell me what I’m doing wrong? I setup a new user to test it out and this is what I’m getting the problem with. I setup blank topics ok when I’m logged in as administrator so is it an issue with user rights? Here is my forum:

errol, you need the development version, not the latest stable release. You’ll have to use Subversion to check it out. Link in on the download page: https://bbpress.org/download/

How to display the BBpress Version anywhere? I want to provide a download link showing the latest version on my WP Blog

Havent tested the plugin, but most of the standalone bbpress plugins are not being actively updated any more.

Is upgrading to bbpress 2.0 out of the question? Their is alot of facebook connect plugins that will work.

The ‘simple facebook connect’ plugin over at the wordpress extend was updated last month… but, it wont work on the stand-alone version of bbpress.

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/simple-facebook-connect/

if using bbpress 2.0 is not an option, i’ll have a look at the plugin tonight and see if anything can be fixed.

EDIT: The plugin not doing anything seems to be a facebook issue, alot of people seem to have the same issue.

    #39776

    Here’s the problem I’m facing:

    – Yesterday, I created the following website – http://smallworldexperiences.com/

    – I added the Facebook Connect mod. It worked great for a day.

    http://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/simple-facebook-connect/

    – I woke this morning and it wasn’t working. I hadn’t make any changes.

    – I tested the site with Facebook’s debugger http://developers.facebook.com/tools/debug

    – I made the appropriate changes so no errors are reported from Facebook’s end but the button still doesn’t work. Nothing happens, it’s simply dead.

Any thoughts as to what’s going wrong here?

Here is the site I’m working on: http://testtrack.tv/forums

It’s WordPress site using a custom child theme of the Thematic wordpress theme/framework.

As you can see, I have used the WordPress functions.php to filter away the sidebar to get a full width layout. Other than that, I have just the styles.css of my theme to restyle the forums slightly.

However, as far as I can tell bbPress doesn’t have a built in login/register link anywhere on the forums – why on earth not? Did I miss something?

Therefore, can anyone tell me how I add a simple login/register link within bbPress? As I’m not using the sidebar, I can’t add a widget there.

    Any help hugely appreciated.

you can see an example of what I’m trying to pull off at http://test.objectsinmotion.org

The area in question is the meta data for the post that is situated just below the featured slider. You’ll see an area that reads “posted in”. It should say “posted in General Discussion”, rather than “posted in whatever the topic title is”

I have noticed that my permalink structure when viewing a forum topic looks like this http://test.website.com/topic/topic-title,

could this have something to do with it? Shouldn’t the permalink look like..

    http://test.website.com/forum-title/topic-title ?

Honestly I’m kinda baffled. even bbp_get_topic_forum_title only pulls the topic title.

Goal: Add BuddyPress with GROUP forums using bbPress.

Situation: Current WordPress has bbPress installed as a SINGLE forum. BuddyPress is not installed yet.

Problem: (on a test WordPress site) When I add BuddyPress, bbPress uses existing files and shows up as a SINGLE forum and will NOT show up as a GROUP forum.

Q1. How do I remove/restructure bbPress so I can add BuddyPress with bbPress as a GROUP forum? (I am ok with losing current bbPress data, but would prefer to backup for a different use.)

Q2. WHERE is current bbPress forum DATABASE so I can copy (then remove) it before I install BuddyPress with Group Forums using bbPress?

    Thank you for help!

I received it and ran some tests the issue is: “I have firstly migrated the punbb to bbpress 1.1 so all the tables reflect that migration”. Well the data in the table is wrong compared to a fresh bbpress and posts in it. The “post_position” column is always 1 on your site this is not accurate and causing part of your issues. I see “topic_poster” and “topic_last_poster” all 0 as well.

If you can send me your punbb database I can make a conversion file for it and will solve everything.

Anyone who is doing a two step process this to that to this please refrain from using my script and ask for the direct conversion file. Everything I have tested is fresh copies of each forum platform without ever being converted into and I haven’t been able to get any issues.

Right now I have requests for phpbb3 and punbb. I need databases for these if you want to help speed up the process. I just need to test the phpbb3 and I can go live with it so if anyone has test data would be appreciated.
