I am using the most recent version of wordpress and bbPress, with the theme my login and user avatar plugins.

Avatars show up fine in the first post, but any additional posts have the avatars thrown down to the bottom.

Activating TwentyTen or TwentyEleven does seem to fix this problem. I have contacted the theme developer, but wondering if anyone could provide some insight for me to fix this quickly myself.

I have strong html/css and basic php knowledge.

@fontadoni – Thanks for the info. I have tried several times and not having any luck.

Here are somethings I have tried and still have not been successful:
1. install bbPress 1.2 as a standalone without WP integration on a local test domain (bbpress.dev)

2. Install WP with bbPress 2.3.2 on a local test domain (wordpress.dev) and then tried to do an import from bbPress1, using separate DB tables.

3. installed WP and bbPress 1.2 in another local test domain (wordpressbbpress.dev), using the same DB, and selected the WP integration when I installed bbPress. Then I installed bbPress 2.3.2 and tried to do the import and no joy.

In all the scenarios above, I get the yellow “Starting Conversion” box but then it shows:

Conversion Complete
No replies to convert

Converting topic tags (0 - 99)
Converting topics (0 - 99)
No forum parents to convert

Anyone have any other suggestions? I do have test data entered and forums created for testing but I don’t understand why it doesn’t find them. And yes, I did verify the prefix as bb_

Hi guys,

I have the latest version of both WordPress & BBPress.

I have set up BBPress on my website but it’s not quite right. I haven’t set it up in a way that is good enough and I need to do more.
I have spent the last hour reading through forums on this site but I can’t find the answers to my questions and problems. Granted I am probably a bit thick, I’m certainly nowhere near as smart as some of you guys on here, judging from the responses I’ve read in other comments.
So what is wrong with my set up? Well the forum is separate from posts. Users or members can also comment in posts and the comment function comes from Jetpack. The Jetpack comments doesn’t show up on the BBPress forum member activity and I don’t even get notification of comments, I just find them if I’m lucky.
It is obviously silly to have two systems and I need to switch off the Jetpack comment feature but I don’t know what BBPress add-on or Pluggin I should use. Can you help?
Also, I think I’d like people to have the option of registering with their social media login (Facebook/Twitter/LinkedIn), is that possible?
I have a BBPress Member login Widget which handily goes in a sidebar but it doesn’t allow users to register instead of logging in and I kind of think it should because they usually do. Is there a solution to this?
Lastly, I think I should have a separate page on my WordPress site for Forums. That just makes sense to me, is this feasible?
I know I’ve raised too many points here I think. If you have any suggestions on any of them, doenst need to be all I’d very gratefully love to read them.
To recap my queries are:
– BBPress Pluggin for posts to replace Jetpack
– Social Media Login – Is this possible?
– BBPress Member login widget – can it include register?
– Forum Page – Can I set one up?
If you have suggestion for any of these issues, doesn’t have to be all of them I’d love to get your feedback.

I know this not necessarily is a bbPress-bug but it is closely tied to bbPress so I’ll post it here first, hoping that you have got an idea on how to debug / fix it.

>> WHAT IS HAPPENING?

My users get locked out of single topics after they access the link to their subscribed topic (“Notify me of follow-up replies via email”). I use a plugin called “bbPress Custom Reply Notifications” in order to easily modify the email’s output and thought of this one to cause the issue but I had to rule it out…

But from the start:

>> SYSTEM SPECS / INFO

The site in question is a membership-site which uses a membership-plugin in order to make our content accessable only after payment. We incorporated bbPress there and things are going OK (although the usage it is not offically supported by the membership-plugin’s authors – but that doesn’t say much). I use a plugin named “Theme My Login” in order to style the account-pages. We us OptimizePress as template.

Although I am listing “Theme My Login” f.ex., I think this most likely has to do with the membership-plugin & bbPress.

>> THE BUG

The issue only happens with singular users & singular topics (= the other topics and forums are functioning as intended). We have had numerous complaints so this ain’t due to a certain system-environment. How it happens:

– User A creates topic X, sets subscription via mail to “on”
– User B replies
– User A gets an email saying “User B replied to your post, go see it here: “http://mysite.info/thema/neuer-post-ohne/#post-5812”
– User A (state: not logged-in (!) // works when already logged-in…) clicks on link
– link “http://mysite.info/thema/neuer-post-ohne/#post-5812” shows “you are not allowed to view this” (because User isn’t logged in yet)
– User A clicks on “login”, enters credentials, gets redirected to our default start-page (weak Usability, I know…)
– User A then navigates to the forum where he/she got the reply

— ERROR —
“you are not allowed to view this” (but user is logged in!)

>> WHAT I HAVE DONE SO FAR

– emptied the cache(s) (W3 Total Cache in use)
– deleted all the site’s cookies (problem persists!)
– (double-)checked the permission-settings fot the topic with the membership-plugin

>> HOW YOU CAN HELP

Maybe you have got an idea on how to fix / debug this – any help is greatly appreciated. I can provide to test-accounts within our development-system so you can check it out for yourself.

Well, when you have a forum that is image based, it is a pain to have to use image urls only. We are an art group and showing images is necessary for everything we do. It seems to me like the administrators of each forum should have the ability to decide whether to trust their users or not. I really wish that we could have the TinyMCE for all participants. I tried a couple of different plugins and some could see the editor and others couldn’t. Then, I tried RT-Media’s plugin and test each update of theirs, but it doesn’t work.

A big problem with using image urls (if you can’t load them into wordpress as the admin) is that that image could disappear if the hosting post is deleted or if the site goes down. We are using the GD BBPress Attachments plugin for attachments, which is a nice thing to have, but it does not do well if you are explaining something and showing several images which would be best embedded inside of the text.

I looked everywhere for an explanation of what the symbols mean in this bbpress editor and couldn’t find anything, so I did a demo for our members: http://www.tafaforum.com/user-groups/tafa-forum-help/forum/topic/text-editor-or-wysiwyg/

It’s not intuitive and a couple of the buttons seem to be useless. Most of our members will have no clue as to what they mean and using symbols that are commonly around on text editors would have been helpful.

Things are finally working pretty well, but it’s been quite the long road in getting this set up. I think there should be a warning in documentation on bbpress: “Non-coders beware! You will need coding experience to make this work!”

I am having a problem with bbpress forums and buddypress groups. I have activated bbpress and buddypress on a sub-site on my sub-domain (http://community.example.com). In bbpress settings, I selected the checkbox “Allow BuddyPress Groups to have their own forums”. Now in buddypress when I am creating a group, in step 3, I should be able to select a checkbox (Yes, I want this group to have a forum.) to enable forum feature for my group, but for some reason the checkbox is not showing up and I cannot proceed by clicking “Next Step” button. I am using the latest version of BP (1.8), bbpress 2.3.2 and WP 3.5.2. The same setting works just fine on my local XAMPP but it doesn’t work on production server.

After this error, when I click on my groups, I can see the group is created with no avatar (because I never got to step 4) and when I click on the group and go to Admin > Forum > Now I see the check box but when I enable it and then select one of my forums from the dropdown and click save, I get this error “Are you sure you want to do this? Please try again.”

When I check my error_log file, I get this error:

I have installed the latest version of bbpress on my test site. I experiance strange behaviour, when I click on the user name in the forum, it should take me to the user profile but t doesn’t

but the actual profile is for some strange reason is using the first name and the last name of the user to generate the user profile link, here in the example:

username: test
first name: test
last name: user

user profile shows when I use firstname and the last name in combination (When I am logged in as test user), if I am not logged in it gives 404 error, but bbpress is using the username to link to bbpress user profile. In actual fact the profile is at …/”First name””Last Name”/

I’m currently running v2.0. I see from the chnagelog that that latest version (bbPress 2.3.2) is safe for upgrade to any 2.x version.

However, would people recommend going straight from version 2.0 to 2.3.2 or go to an intermediate version first and then on – or use an older version for stability?

We are considering BBPress to power discussions on our high traffic website. The site also runs WP and we’ve had our share of scalability issues as we’ve grown. Searching the forums here I was terrified to read about known issues with slow query times and with private forums.

Can anyone confirm that these problems have been fixed with the latest version? is BBPress really scalable?

Our traffic / setup info:
– over 150k registered users
– over 1M unique visitors per month
– running latest version of WP v3.5.2
– have APC and Memcache installed on Apache
– use W3TC
– use HyperDB

I am having the exact same problem.

2 weeks ago I had downloaded the forum and was able to have others test it and it worked fine without anybody having to register.

However, now that is not the case. I have gone to forum settings and made sure that I unclicked the ‘anonymous posting’ box, making it possible for anybody to post (Theoretically).

I have also gone to the “Discussions” settings and unclicked the box “users must be logged in and registered to comment).

Originally when I uploaded the forum, people who replied had to enter their name, email and optionally their website. That was fine. Where did it go? I can’t recall if there has been an upgrade since then.

My site is http://www.cclhdn.org and you can see “MEMBER FORUM” on the top menu (far right).

I use Suffusion theme, and have also recently dowloaded Askimet and bbPressCaptcha. However, the problem was there before I did this. Also, I can’t figure out how to use bbpressCaptcha with bbPress, but maybe that will come when people can actually respond.

I would really appreciate some help with this, I’ve been trying to fix this for about 3 days now and need it to be done by the time of a newsletter launch this Thurs!

Just downloaded the bbPress for the forum option and trying to mess with it before I can tell my company to use it. Able to create forum and topic and link them to each other. Also, able to embed the forum in a page. Now everything is set up on the forum for public and open, but when I visit the forum to test it, it won’t let me reply to it.

I am doing this in a different browser and not logged in on that browser so that doesn’t mess it up. Please help.

the recent topic widget displays topics from private group forums to everyone… groups are private for a reason… is this a bug or?

I have searched but cannot find a plugin that works as a widget – it lists your latest topics, along with a thumbnail of the featured image you’ve added to the topic. The widget can be used in your main WordPress powered blog to promote the forum.

I updated to the latest version of WordPress SEO and when I open my forums none of my threads populate and when I open a topic the most recent thread shows up but no user info or replies populate. I would like to continue using WordPress SEO as a lot of work has been done on it and afraid I will have to change to Ultimate SEO.

I am using the latest versions of wordpress and bbpress. After I installed my bbpress, created categories and forum and created a link to the index it won’t move up or down. I click on the link and it takes my to a page that doesn’t have a bbpress sidebar but it has a wordpress sidebar. I can’t move up or down in my forum. I read somewhere that my theme may not be compatible with bbpress WP Tweaks. Also, not all of my forum is showing. Where it say freshness is being squeezed to the left of my screen. How can I get all of my forum to show up on one page,how can I get my forum to move up and down and is there a way to have my forum show up in a separate window or page. In otherwords, I don’t want my wordpress sidebar to show up on my bbpress forum page.

BBpress has reduced the text editor to a minimal one that is really sub-par, in my opinion. I would really like to use something like a TinyMCE version that works for all of the users. There is this one, set up for bbpress, but only authors and above see it: http://wordpress.org/plugins/bbpress-enable-tinymce-visual-tab/

We are an arts org and we need to have good ways to share visual content. I loaded GD BBPress Attachments which is fine for uploading images and docs, but you can’t insert them into the text: http://www.dev4press.com/plugin/gd-bbpress-attachments/

I found this one: http://premiumsoftware.net/CLEditor/Index, but it’s not as nice as the TinyMCE ones that I’ve used and it shows the bbpress one (the minimal one) right above it, so that is confusing, too. Do you have any recommendations of what would work well for us?

I am attempting to import bbpress 1 forum into the new bbpress plugin on a new site using the Import Forums tool in WordPress. I successfully did this in a test – once. I tried to do another test and haven’t been able to do it again successfully. When I start the conversion I get the yellow box at the bottom “Starting Conversion” and the turning wheel… the wheel keeps turning… an hour later, it’s still turning. It’s not progressing. I have to quit out of it. There is no new data in the DB. What is the issue here?
