    @joesusername

    Given that you’ve downgraded, suspect you won’t want to upgrade again to do a test !

    But if anyone else out there still has problems with 404’s or topics/replies not showing and is on wp4, can they try the very optimistically named bbpress wp4 fix plugin, and let me know if it makes a difference !+

    bbpress wp4 fix

    Hi,

    I installed bbpress on my WP4.0 install.

    I created a page and added the forum-index to it. The problem is that the breadcrumbs nav on top of the forum index shows not “Forum” as root, but instead “About us/Forums”.

    “About us” is of course the title of a page that was once used as static frontpage, but currently the install is set to use “latest posts”. I re-confirmed that NO STATIC FRONT PAGE is used (in Appearance/Customize, as well as in Settings/Reading).

    It seems to me that BBPress is somehow using the static front page setting, even though it is deactivated.

    In an attempt to solve the problem, I re-set “latest posts” as frontpage setting, refreshed permalinks – no change.

    The only way to fix this turned out to be to trash the page in question and then restore it. After doing this, the Breadcrumbs correctly read “Home > Forums”.
    Apparently bbpress doesn’t update its breadcrumbs when the homepage is changed from static pages to latest posts.

    If you’re on wordpress 4.0 then there are some issues with themes and plugins, so it could be a theme or plugin issue

    Plugins

    Deactivate all but bbpress and see if this fixes. if it does, re-enable one at a time to see which is causing the error.

    Themes

    If plugins don’t pinpoint the problem, as a test switch to a default theme such as twentytwelve, and see if this fixes.

    Hi,

    I am having exactly the same problem. I am also using the latest bbpress 2.5.4 and the newest version of wordpress. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Hi,

    How do I remove the “User” on the topic overview.

    I want to keep “latest activity”. But not the User.

    I’ve marked the row I want removed in this picture:

    upgrading to wp 4.0 has caused some issues with bbpress and some themes and other plugins

    I’d see if this is the case for you, so as a test try

    Deactivate all but bbpress and see if this fixes. if it does, re-enable one at a time to see which is causing the error.

    I hope it’s OK to post something like this…

    I’m brand new to bbpress and not a professional developer. I’m using it with Buddypress on my new site – I’m moving a community from Facebook to the site. A lot of my members are not very net-savvy and are unfamiliar with how forums works. So, I’m trying to offer familiar functions that they’ve seen on Facebook. The forum is going to be the main hub of the site, so I need to get it look good and easy to use.

    Set up has gone well, but the forum is just looking a bit dull.

    Is there a better way I can display the forum to show the activity?

    Are there any other plugins people would recommend to make the forums as similar as possible to what my members have been used to in the Facebook group?

    I have a Latest Activity feed on the site homepage which shows all forum activity:
    This looks a bit more compelling than the forum page, but it would be nice if it could have things like reply buttons or ‘Go to forum’ to make it more obvious how people can get in the conversations.

    Just looking for suggestions really. Thanks. πŸ™‚

    There is also the Meta Title for the tags pages and search pages who looks like that :

    http://www.site.com/forums/topic-tag/test4/

    http://www.site.com/forums/search/test7/

    How can I modify the meta title for the profile, search and tag pages ?

    Thanks

    thanks but it does in fact kill the page if I add text above the shortcode. My theme is Divi and I’m on the latest WP and all. Pretty generic actually.

    Hi, took a while (been checking a lot of backups to pinpoint the moment of the bug appearing). But I could recreate te same by setting up a new site, add a second admin to the site and then installing and activating BackWpup, checking the settings (a nice new column in Users named ‘BackWPup role’, and still all standard roles available on a new user), then installing and activating bbPress and bingo. Only the first admin (or probably the admin who installed bbPress, thats the fitting scenario for the live site) is now Keymaster, for new accounts there are only 4 standard roles available (no admin, only subscriber, writer, author and editor).
    Opening All users shows both users are actually Site Role = admin, BackWPup Role = BackWPup Admin and Forum Role only the user installing bbPress is Keymaster.
    Then when I open the other user and scroll down to Site Role (named just Role here) IT shows — No role for this site –. Scrolling down shows both the role setting for BackWPup and Forums, with BackWPup defaults to BackWPup Admin (probably because I didn’t configure it yet) and Forum Role = — No role for these forums –.
    In our live site I see the following: With bbpress installed, activated, used with some forums and 3 different users, in the user edit view there’s a Role field (limited to the 4 lesser roles), a BackWPup Role and a Forum role.
    When we deactivate bbpress the Forum Role is gone, but now the Forum Roles are visible in the Site Role list, next to the aforementioned roles, still lacking the Admin role.
    The same happens when deactivating bbpress on my test site.

    Hi Stephen,

    Thanks for responding! I actually updated from 2.5.2 to 2.5.4. Before I updated, I could just activate bbpress on a site-by-site basis on the multisite network and folks could use it just on their particular site. When I updated from 2.5.2 to 2.5.4, they could activate it on their site and I could see Forums, Topics, Replies but they couldn’t. I tested with the various roles and only Network Admin could see the menu items Forums, Topics, Replies. However, the actual forums were there and if I sent the site admin or site editor, etc., a direct link to the site forum, then could access it. It’s just the menu item visibility that’s the problem.

    Thanks!

    Why, this is fabulous! Thank you so much for your help!!

    I tested with your modified code for about an hour, and can’t seem to find any issues. I will post an update in case I do discover any problems…

    But this does appear to be the solution to searching single bbpress forums, including private ones in Buddypress. Thanks to you, @tobyhawkins! πŸ™‚

    @stg – then it is probably a plugin conflict.

    Plugins

    Deactivate all but bbpress and see if this fixes. if it does, re-enable one at a time to see which is causing the error.

    Themes

    If plugins don’t pinpoint the problem, as a test switch to a default theme such as twentytwelve, and see if this fixes.

    Yes. That’s not ideal. I think the problem is the bbp_pre_get_posts_normalize_forum_visibility function in bbpress > includes > forums > functions.php.

    I’m not going to vouch for the security of this (although I think the logic is ok and cursory testing seems to bear this out) but you can get round this by changing your my_bbp_filter_search_results function to the following:

    function my_bbp_filter_search_results( $r ){

        //Get the submitted forum ID (added in gethub > bbpress > form-search.php)
        $forum_id = sanitize_title_for_query( $_GET['bbp_search_forum_id'] );

        //If the forum ID exits, filter the query
        if( $forum_id && is_numeric( $forum_id ) ){

            $r['meta_query'] = array(
                array(
                    'key' => '_bbp_forum_id',
                    'value' => $forum_id,
                    'compare' => '=',
                )
            );

            $group_id = bbp_get_forum_group_ids( $forum_id );
            if( groups_is_user_member( bp_loggedin_user_id(), $group_id[0] ) )
            {
                function my_allow_all_forums () { return true; }
                add_filter( 'bbp_include_all_forums', 'my_allow_all_forums' );
            }
        }

        return $r;
    }
    add_filter( 'bbp_after_has_search_results_parse_args' , 'my_bbp_filter_search_results' );

    To negate the danger of plugins forgetting to manage permissions for posts properly the normalize function visibility automatically steps in on any WP_Query activity and shuts it down, but apparently doesn’t account for the possibility of forums being private, but viewable by low level users within the group context. By adding the filter only when searching on a single forum and then only if the logged-in user is a member of the correct group I think I have accounted for the security issues, but I’m not enough of a php expert to be 100% confident that I haven’t missed something.

    I have deactivated all the plugins again for you.
    Still getting same bahavior

    I still see plugins enabled, the issue cannot be reproduced with only WordPress 4.0 and bbPress 2.5.4, thus in every instance thus far this issue has occurred it has been a plugin conflict, we need to find this conflict to work out where to from here.

    It should take only a few minutes to test this as I outlined in my original reply above.

    Hey guys,

    I’m currently in the process of migrating from phpBB over to bbPress and I could use a little help.

    I was wondering if you guys could help me out…

    I would only like to have 1 Forum on my website instead of the 3 that I currently have and I would like people to be taken to this forum when they visit the root URL of http://www.mmabettingtips.com/forums/

    For example I would like to just have “General Discussion” as the main root forum, instead of having the option to visit various different forums.

    Right now I can’t work out how to do that and I can only show either a set number of the latest posts or the top level forums that are displayed at the moment:

    http://www.mmabettingtips.com/forums/

    Is there a way to set bbPress up, so that it is just one forum?

    I doubt there will be a need to expand the forum in the future, so this won’t be a problem.

    If you guys could let me know, I’d really appreciate it!

    Thanks a lot!

    Thank you but nope. Still no luck. See eg. http://pupyshevo.hol.es/forums/forum/11/
    Maybe some debugging? You can use my credentials on this test site, would be glad to help! Let me know and thanks again for proper support!

    Oleg

    PS: flushed permalinks with default and then with postname. Also reactivated both bbPress and the plugin. Still believe it isn’t really plugin’s fault, but me doing smth wrong…

    Currently if I access the user’s profile of bbpress (ex: http://example.com/forums/users/admin/) then it’ll list the profile, topics started, replies started….) from the viewing user.

    Is there a shortcode that allow me to display forum user’s profile by user’s id from anywhere besides original bbpress url( ex: http://example.com/test/ )?

    I found the bug in plugin with some validates. Never liked if ($var) constructions. if ($var !== false && $var !== '') better to understand πŸ™‚

    Just replace content of plugin.php in plugin folder:
    https://github.com/korobochkin/bbPress-permalinks-with-id/blob/master/plugin/plugin.php

    Tested on brand new WordPress install only with bbPress and my plugin with default theme – works as… haha.

    Hi!
    Embedding Youtube video worked fine on my site until 1-2 days ago.
    I was using Smart Youtube Pro plugin and lately alongside that also the WP Youtube Lyte, since some subscribers reported problem with youtube video when viewing my site via iPad.
    SO, everything worked ok, on my blog posts/pages/comments as well as within bbpress forums. In forums, videos were embedded either with http:// or https:// link, all worked ok. On the rest of the site (post/pages/comments) they were embedded either via httpv:// (Smart Youtube Pro and WP Youtube Lyte requirement, well, it became optional now) or normally (http(s)://)
    Now, “all of a sudden” some of the videos are not embedded in forum topics. And in no particular pattern that is: some https videos are embedded, some not, some http:// are embedded, some not.
    I recently upgraded to WP 4.0. but a few days ago I downgraded to 3.9.2. due to problems with bbpress and s2member (see topic)
    So… Does anyone have a clue what is going on? I should probably make a developer page and then test plugins one by one to see which one is causing the problem? An easier way perhaps?
