    Site Home › Forums › Forums › News & Announcements › Topic Title

    when i click on the first forums, it gives me not a list of forums, but a plain, unlinked text list of forums without any links or anything. its bizarre, not sure whats wrong. :s

    hi there guys,

    i’m using a rockettheme wordpress template and seem to be having issues with the beta 2 profile pages. whenever i click a username on the forums to visit the bbpress profile page of that user, it is a completely unformatted page consisting of:

    >

    Home

    About Us

    Page 3

    Page 4

    Forums

    Logout

    Fatal error: Call to undefined function get_query_type() in /wp-content/plugins/gantry/core/gantrybodylayout.class.php on line 94

    I don’t know what to do. That’s all that appears on the page. That first “>” is indicating to me that there’s something wrong in a code somewhere, maybe thats an extra “>” or there’s another missing “>” or something. im not too experienced with php or wordpress, but im comfortable editing it if given instructions. if anybody could help me on this issue, i would be extremely grateful – i’ve been trying to fix it for a few days now.

    thanks, i hope somebody can lend a helping hand!

    (by the way, this exact same thing happens, with the same error too, when i click ‘EDIT’ to edit a post other than the first post in a topic.)

    Evening,

    Although the code is well documented within, I am having trouble getting my head round all the files/locations in the first place!

    I wanted to hide my forum by default (as oppose to having to choose public/private), achieved this by getting down and dirty with all keys that feed into the “post__not_in” field in the main forum query.

    Having achieved this, my question: Where in earth do I change the friendly “Oh bother! No forums were found here!” message???? Can’t find it anywhere!

    Thanks in advance

    Im new to both wordpress and bbPress forum, however i got it to work and both the website and forum are up and running.

    The only problem i have is: I cant seem to figure out how to link my forum to one of the menu bar buttons. Lets say i have a menu button called ” Community Forum “, when someone klicks that menu button i want the forum to show.

    How do i link the forum page to the Community Forum menu bar button? Ive pulled my hair for hours trying to figure this out. :D

    Oh, one more thing. What file should i edit to fix the background and text on the forum?

    Thats all, thanks for a lovely plugin!

    This can be easily done with plugins which do it for WordPress like this one. :)

    Hi Jared,

    I have also been beating my head against the wall on this, and was thrilled to find your post above.

    May I ask what the bug is in Genesis?

    What do you think are the odds core will be updated?

    I’ll release a plugin that should prevent this issue from happening for others who are looking to run bbPress with Genesis.

    Any chance you have the plugin done? :)

    I am working on a pro-bono site for a not-for-profit, and trying to use BuddyPress 1.5 and bbpress 2.0. Been going ok, other than this issue.

    Thanks!

    I have resolved this by editing the bbp-template.php file.

    Anyone else with the issue should look to the function: bbp-list-forums and replace the separator ',' with '<br />'

    Hope this helps

    I had this problem, and resolved it by editing the bbp-forum-template.php file.

    You need the bbp_list_forums function at about line 637..

    Find:

    // Defaults and arguments

    $defaults = array (

    ‘before’ => ‘<ul class=”bbp-forums”>’,

    ‘after’ => ”,

    ‘link_before’ => ‘<li class=”bbp-forum”>’,

    ‘link_after’ => ”,

    ‘count_before’ => ‘ (‘,

    ‘count_after’ => ‘)’,

    ‘count_sep’ => ‘, ‘,

    ‘separator’ => ‘,’,

    ‘forum_id’ => ”,

    ‘show_topic_count’ => true,

    ‘show_reply_count’ => true,

    );

    If you edit the ‘seperator line, replacing ‘,’ with '<br />'

    Then you will list your forums as required.

    bbPress Signatures:

    i tried to change the bb-attachments.php and the line:

    ‘.signature {clear:both;border-top:1px solid #222; font-size:85%; color:#777;padding:1em;}’ <

    the font-size:0.87em;

    but the changes wont show in main page. if i check via the chrome developer tool i see this when i target the div:

    .signature {

    padding: 1em;

    border-top: 1px solid #CCC;

    font-size: 0.87em;

    color: #444;

    its unchanged even after i changed the php file. do you know if i need to update some other file? cant see anything in the style.css file atleast.

    cheers

    @JohnJamesJacoby – First off, excellent work. Beautiful system. However, sorry to disagree with you, but I believe Anthony is right that there’s a problem with the plugin with both logging in and logging out (particularly when using the sidebar widget). Here’s why…

    I’m testing with the bbPress RC4 installed in a WP 3.2.1 Network config using sub-directory instead of sub-domain (no BuddyPress installed, just bbPress … no other plugins installed. – I have also tested with another sidebar login plugin and everything worked fine, but I’ve uninstalled it, and when I use the bbPress login widget I get problems.) If I use the bbPress login widget and enter the right credentials it logs me in and redirects me to [site]/[site]/ which obviously a problem.

    When I inspect the Login button element for the bbPress login widget I see:

    <div class="bbp-submit-wrapper">
    <input class="user-submit" type="submit" tabindex="104" value="Log In" name="user-submit">
    <input type="hidden" value="1" name="user-cookie">
    <input type="hidden" value="http://[host]/[site]/[site]/" name="redirect_to">
    <input id="_wpnonce" type="hidden" value="299cce3d83" name="_wpnonce">
    <input type="hidden" value="/[site]/" name="_wp_http_referer">
    </div>

    Since the problem is with the redirect_to hidden value, my guess is that there’s a problem with either

    $redirect_to = apply_filters( ‘bbp_user_login_redirect_to’, ” );

    or

    bbp_redirect_to_field( $redirect_to );

    which are called from bbp_user_login_fields() in the bbp-user-template.php file.

    ….

    Moving on to Log out

    If you correct the URL so that you’re back a the page for your site, you can now see the Gravitar, your name, and the log out link.

    Again, inspecting the log out element we get:

    <a href="http://[host]/[site]/wp-login.php?action=logout&_wpnonce=c08ad91218&redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2F[host]%2F[site]%2F[site]%2F%3Floggedout%3Dtrue">Log Out</a>

    Again, the link to the wp-login.php is fine… it’s the redirect_to afterwards that has the site name twice that’s the problem.

    I’ve also noticed that if the bbPress plugins is activated the WordPress meta for log out includes the redirect_to [site]/[site]/

    If the bbPress plugin is deactivated the native WordPress meta for log out reverts back to normal (without the redirect_to).

    With bbPress installed:

    <a href="http://[host]/[site]/wp-login.php?action=logout&_wpnonce=07d2823a80&redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2F[host]%2F[site]%2F[site]%2F%3Floggedout%3Dtrue">Log out</a>

    Without bbPress installed:

    <a href="http://[host]/[site]/wp-login.php?action=logout&_wpnonce=07d2823a80">Log out</a>

    How is it possible to change or replace the “You must log in to post” text that appears on the Forum.php and Topic.php pages? It appears that changing it directly in the “functions.bb-template.php” file doesn’t work. Can anyone provide any help, searching the forums and web has brought up very little, which makes me wonder if I am doing something wrong. :P

    Thanks in advance for any help!

    See how the poll appears on the right hand side? I wouldn’t mind but you can’t see all of it. Can I change it to appear above the first topic response.

    This is the CSS code within the plugin;

    #bb_polls {list-style: none; width:35em; line-height:120%; margin:5px 0; padding:5px; border:1px solid #ADADAD; font-size:90%; color:#000; background:#eee; }

    #bb_polls .submit {cursor: pointer; cursor: hand; text-align:center; padding:2px 5px;}

    #bb_polls .nowrap {white-space:nowrap;}

    #bb_polls p {margin:15px 0;padding:0;}

    #bb_polls .poll_question, #bb_polls .poll_footer {font-weight:bold; text-align:center; color:#2E6E15;}

    #bb_polls .poll_label {font-weight:bold; margin:1em 0 1em 1em;}

    #bb_polls .poll_option {overflow:hidden; white-space:nowrap; margin:2px 0 -2px 0; text-align:center; font-size:11px; line-height:9px; padding:1px 0 0 0; border:1px solid #303030; color:#fff; }

    #bb_polls .poll_option1 {background:red;}

    #bb_polls .poll_option2 {background:green;}

    #bb_polls .poll_option3 {background:blue;}

    #bb_polls .poll_option4 {background:orange;}

    #bb_polls .poll_option5 {background:purple;}

    #bb_polls .poll_option6 {background:pink;}

    #bb_polls .poll_option7 {background:olive;}

    #bb_polls .poll_option8 {background:navy;}

    #bb_polls .poll_option9 {background:teal;}

    #bb_polls .poll_option10 {background:aqua;}

    #bb_polls .poll_option11 {background:maroon;}

    #bb_polls .poll_option12 {background:fuchsia;}

    It is the blank 3 column theme. I am using bbpress 1.0.3

    I’m running the latest dev version of the plugin, version 3476, in hopes that it would have solved my issue, but no luck.

    I was getting the error mentioned in this thread http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/tags-archives-page-are-broken-in-bbp-20-rc2-and-rc3#post-90903

    I downloaded the branch code after reading the above issue and it’s resolution. Then, I started getting the WordPress “Hands off, partner!” error which is a 500 Internal Server error in Firebug.

    Any ideas about what could be causing the page to not display correctly?

    Thanks so much for your help and the great plugin.

    Hi folks,

    Always one to make things twice as hard as they need be, I started out designing a theme for the standalone product and I’d now like to change gears and port it to the plugin version.

    Essentially, I didn’t think I’d use WordPress for my main site… but I’ve since come to change my mind. Now, I’ve got a nice custom theme for both my WordPress installation and a nice theme for my bbPress installation.

    At this point, I can’t decide if I’d be best to keep them separated and use the integration options or to sit and re-theme everything with the plugin version. If I were to continue to use the standalone, is it possible to create widgets similar to the “recent topics” and others created by the plugin version? And subsequently, is there a way to use shortcodes for embedding bbPress into WordPress pages? heh

    Sorry for the novel…

    Sorry about the popup…forgot I had activated that plugin. Was testing a few things out and left it up because I needed someone to test my code for me. Once he tests the code out with plugin activated, I will change settings so that it doesn’t pop up for quite that long and also you should’ve been able to click away to close. I may have to make that more clearer to other visitors.

    Thanks again for that…

    But back to the topic. Do you know what template files would have to be edited in the bbp-twentyten theme for me to play around with it to try to get it that way?

    I’ve been trying to figure out what file needs to be edited and can’t seem to find it.

    Thanks

    #39711

    I use this conde in bb-config.php for my integration with wordpress 2.9.2

    if ( !defined( ‘ABSPATH’ ) & !defined( ‘XMLRPC_REQUEST’ )) {

    define( ‘WP_USE_THEMES’, false );

    //

    // You will need to get the ABSOLUTE path to this file |

    // |/

    require_once( $_SERVER[“DOCUMENT_ROOT”].’/wp-load.php’ );

    header( “HTTP/1.1 200 OK” );

    header( “Status: 200 All rosy” );

    }

    /**

    now I upadated wordpress to 3.2.1 but I get an error, my forum home not load, the error log is blank, but if I comment the above code it work.

    I think that the problem is incompatible with that version

    As suggested by InterMike I set up a new fresh combo of both with clean databses on localhost via XAMPP to identify the problem! Guess what? I am still stuck!

    bbPress related stuff won’t show in buddypress activity stream.

    So either me is an idiot :) or I have some problems in understanding the setup for getting it to work. It’s stated that this should work since bbPress RC2 but didn’t work for me til now.

    Here’s my setup again:

    Install WP 3.2.1

    Install bbPress RC2

    Install BuddyPress 1.5 Beta2

    Disable Discussion Forums in BuddyPress on Installation Wizard

    Tried so many things and switched installation orders of bbPress / BuddyPress but that still won’t work. So anyone of the people having the bbPress related stuff working / showing in BuddyPress activitiy stream please show me the way on how to get it working, too.

    The guys at WPCandy either used Shortcodes or a custom template to pull that off.

    If you’re going to link to your site here for help, please remove the Facebook pop up. Waiting 30 seconds to see it was really frustrating.

    I think I finally figured this whole bbpress thing out somewhat…finally!

    I just need a little help from the community here to add one last thing.

    My forum can be viewed here:

    http://www.theurbantwist.com/community

    Nevermind the “Company Man Comic” banner that’s there now…it’s just a place holder til I get a banner designed strictly for this forum.

    I’m used the bbpress plugin and the default bbp-twentyten theme that came with it…nothing fancy. I just updated some of the css code that would apply to make some of the tables fit.

    My main question is how could I go about adding a “Recent Topics” list on the front page of forum as seen on this site?

    Open Forums

    It looks they’re using the same default theme that I am.

    Just curious as to how I would list Recent Topics beneath my forum list on the front page. Like what theme files would I have to edit and such.

    Appreciate the help.

    Thanks
