    Topic: bbBlog 2.0 (plugin)

    in forum Plugins

    Member

I’ve finally finished bbBlog 2.0. This plugin adds a blog page to you bbPress forum, using posts from a forum category, specified by you. (For those wanting to do some simple blogging without the WordPress installation hassle…)

    You can download it here:

    http://www.bbportal.org/bb-downloads/bb-blog2.0.zip

    Demo:

    http://www.bbportal.org/mssp/view.php?view=blog

    Features:

    – Total rewrite of the bbBlog plugin (1.0 compatible)

    – Now a link to the blog is created under the “Views list” at the front-page (forum index)

    – The blog items are now correctly filtering bold text, hyperlinks, smilies, etc (thanks _ck_)

    – Comments() link now goes to the first comment made (thanks _ck_)

    – You can now prevent members and guests to start blog posts (they can still reply)

    – Now also showing topic tags

    – Added sticky support: Topics marked as sticky now show on top on the blog page

    – Admin display redesigned to match bbPress 1.0 admin area

    – Blog post date uses the same Date Format as set in: Admin -> Settings -> General -> Date Format

    – Now shows blog main category no subforums yet)

    – Now pre-loads the selected (blog) forum in the dropdownlistbox in the admin area (thanks Ben L.)

    To do:

    – Set as start page, can be done by htcacces, how does WP do this?

    – Generate a nicer error message when there are no topics in the blog like: “No blog started yet”

    – Show some confirmation when settings are saved (this is broken in 1.0)

    – Add pagination

    – A “Read more” functionality. Show a Read more link after an amount of words set in the admin

    – Add: You are not allowed to create new topics (like when locked topics)

    – Sub category support (admin option?)

    – Separate tags with commas

    Enjoy!

ps: I am NO programmer, so don’t expect much support. Code suggestions and help (esp. with Read more and pagination) are welcome.

We have to charge to make these types of things possible; we’ll be doing a BBPress addon for each of our current themes plus the new ones coming.

Currently the forum code is GPL; although we do things to prevent ‘free’ distribution.

I will say that being on Automattic’s good side is pretty core to our business model and I think Thesis has taken the wrong approach.

Deep integration has never worked with my theme, and I’ve had a couple within this topic look at it.

PLEASE make the integration of bbPress into WP just as simple as WP Forum / Forum Server – for these plugins all you have to do to integrate the forum is to make a blank page and insert a HTML code like [VastHTML].

I’m still running Forum Server only because I can’t integrate bbPress the way I’d like to, but I’d really love to switch because of it’s far superior forum possibilities (and it looks like the WP Forum / Forum Server development has been discontinued, so their bugs will probably never be solved).

Oh, another important thing for the wishlist: make it possible to import the WP Forum / Forum Server database.

Still the same, logged in the wordpress, not logged in the bbpress but can do it.

only with define( ‘COOKIEPATH’, ‘/’ ); in the both files!

But i look very carefully into the cookies.

    I found 2 differences!

    First for wordpress cookies

login cookie is with name wordpress_logged_in_xxxxx and path /

and other cookies are with path /wp-admin, wp-content/plugins, /forum/bb-admin /forum/bb-plugins

and for the bbpress cookies are

    wordpress_xxxxxxx and path /

and other cookies are with path

    website.com/wp-admin

    website.comwp-content/plugins

    website.com/forum/bb-admin

    website.com/forum/bb-plugins

I think this is the problem, but I don’t knew how to fix it, to have path without the host in bbpress cookies…

We’ve got a set of new site editors here on bbPress.org, and so I wanted to start a thread for everybody to track anything they think could be improved in the copy and documentation of bbpress.org.

    Thanks, I posted it.

    I want this same functionality.

The problem is, these are all hacks. The bottom line is there’s no functionality to provide this.

I’m disappointed… The more I look under the hood with BBPress, the more I’m kinda let down.

You have to log in there with a wordpress.org account, then you have some additional options. I’m not certain I see a way to create an account there, so create one at wordpress.org and then click “login” https://trac.bbpress.org/login – once that’s done, you will have the option to create a new ticket https://trac.bbpress.org/newticket

Indeed, the poll is a joke, they already have decided to work on WordPress integration OR Matt didn’t do his homework and check if any plugin existed first and just copied the results into a poll.

I guess people are too lazy to check if there is a plugin or don’t understand the way bbPress is set up: as small and less feature rich as possible, giving you the option to customize it anyway you like (through plugins etc)…. Would be a shame if that idea disappeared…

As much as i appreciate all her work, i find it a bit childish the way she took down her site and made a big drama about the leadership o BBPress. But hey, this is now in the past so lets look forward to the upcoming release of BBPress.

How do you post a ticket there? I don’t see where I can do that. =(

With head hung low I come here to update:

After a week off of this, I fired it up again and noticed that I had installed an older version of bbpress, .9. I upgraded to 1.1 and clicked a few things and was perfectly integrated.

Thanks for helping, everyone, I appreciate it.

daudev if you are NOT using WPMU then you shouldn’t have so many lines.

delete what you pasted and follow these instructions

6 Login to your wordpress dashboard. Go to Plugins->Add New-> search for “bbPress Integration” it should be the first one. Install it and activate.

7 Go to Settings-> bbPress Integration. Enter the bbPress URL without the www. Your plugins URL leave blank. Click on Save Changes. On the bottom box you’ll see some text copy it. Most likely it will say “define( ‘COOKIEPATH’, ‘/’ );”

There should be only ONE line in both files. Make sure you have the correct checkbox that says wordpress not wordpressmu

this question should be addressed on buddypress.org but I know the answer!

The Buddypress’ forums uses the BBpress technology for their Groups. Buddypress has something called Groups. The Groups allow people (your users) to form their own group which they can invite people to join or have people join on their own. The group has it’s own forums controlled by the Group creator. The group creator can add/edit put any forum titles they want. Buddypress adapted the BBpress Forums into the groups.

    You’ll have WPMU

    BuddyPress with Groups (intergrated BBpress)

BBpress which is a forum only controlled by you.

Good luck. I tried it, got it working for the most part but there are things that aren’t address because it’s three different programs trying to be one.

    Hi!

    I am new to bbpress/buddypress

we are planning to migrate phpbb3 to bbpress,

so, we plan to have wpmu/bbpress/buddypress

what confuses me and my whole concept, is buddypress forums..

as it is, we plan to move php forums to bbpress

but where do buddypress forums stand?

sure, each group can have a forum – that’s all I know – so I guess they wont replace bbpress forums

Has anyone set up bbpress/buddypress forums? could I have a look at your site and how you are using forums?

    Kind regards

    Kris
