I have a multi-site installation of WordPress. I have created a local bbpress stylesheet in my theme that I want to load ONLY if the site administrator has activated the bbpress plugin. I am unclear on the conditional statement (e.g., “if(function_exists..”) to accomplish this as I do with other plugins that are optional. I have tried the following in my functions.php file but it throws an error. Please advise:

    <?php
//Load the bbpress styles if bbpress is installed //
    if (class_exists( 'bbPress' ) ) {
    ?>
    <link rel="stylesheet" id="bbpress_style" href="<?php echo get_stylesheet_directory_uri(); ?>/bbpress.css" type="text/css" media="screen" />
    <? } ?>

Any input would be appreciated. Thank you!

Experienced with WP but new to bbPress

Have installed BuddyPress and bbPress plugins WP 3.5.1 bbPress 2.3.2 BuddyPress 1.7.2 on test site.

I’m logged in to the backend as admin and forum keymaster

    Settings>BuddyPress

I have 3 tabs “Components” “Pages” and “Settings”

I think I should also have a tab “Forums” but this is not present.

I think this should be the page:

    ../wp-admin/options-general.php?page=bp-forums

But if I try and access directly I get “You do not have sufficient permissions to access this page.”

Have searched web and forums without any joy.

As I understand it without this tab I can’t make much progress

    Any help much appreciated

I am also still experiencing this. I did post it in BuddyPress support as I didn’t know whether it is an issue with BuddyPress groups or bbPress forums.

This is not an issue with bbPress 2.3.2 and BuddyPress 1.7.2 (within group forums at least).

Glad to see a response to this. Thanks for the info. I’m still having a problem however.

I don’t even have “Forums” in my settings menu anymore. When I click on “Settings” link for bbPress from the plugins section I get the message that I do not have permission to view that page.

The user profile that I have always used has the roles listed as “Administrator” and “Keymaster.” I also have another profile on my site and I changed the roles on that profile to be “Keymaster” for both Site Roll and Forum Roll. When I log in with that account I the the error message “Cheatin” uh?”

Thanks for any further help you can give me.

I’m wondering it’s possible to use bbPress to accomplish the style of forum found here:
    http://www.stockhouse.com/companies/bullboards/aun?s=AUN&t=LIST

Where replies are listed in one big list.

    Thank you.

Hi, sorry for kicking up this thread. But I have the same issue or related with disabling the group forum and the link above seems to be down.

I have the latest version of everything. Installed BBPress and BuddyPress. Enabled group forums. I now want to disable group forums. This seems a piece of cake. But when I disable group forums, on the frontpage the link to the group still tries to open [group]/forum. And this provides a notice” page doesn’t exist”.

It seems the group forum is disabled. How can I change the group link so that it doesn’t open to the forum by default, but (for example) the activity stream of the group?

Even when I open a new group without a forum, it still tries to open a forum for this group.

    Hey guys!

When I launched the site the forums worked. In a few months I didnt notice any activity on them so when BBpress broke I simply removed it from my menu.

Now, my website grew and I have some visitors that requested a forum. So when I enabled it again I found the same error.

    http://www.airsoftclubnederland.nl/forums/forum/algemeen/

Thats the place where my forum hangs out. Is it a theme problem? I disabled the WP security plug-in as a test but it didnt fix it. I have some plug-ins active like social log-in and the likes. But I’m not sure where the start looking to fix this problem. Cant find anything on Google as well.

Curious if anyone can help me out with this 🙂

jwind, if you figure it out, please let m know as well! I am struggling with exactly the same thing after having told a client they could (based on an older version of BBPress which used the WP User Roles functionality).

    Aron and Irene,

I tried using the User Role Editor and resetting all roles, but no luck. Still no menus. If I click on the bbPress dashboard widget, I get a “Cheatin’ uh?” message.

    #134441

The theme has CSS rules that are too broad. You’ll need to write some CSS yourself to counter it, and even the bbPress styles back out.

    Hi there,

in relation to the “ERROR: Are you sure you wanted to do that?” error, we can confirm that changing the port from 8888 to default (80) one fixes the issue on MAMP Pro.

I need to filter the forums link, so it can take me to a different page when I click “Home > Forums”. Please don’t ask why I need this to be done.

    Hello,
I just installed bbPress and am developing locally but when I create a new Topic from the front-end I get the following error:
ERROR: Are you sure you wanted to do that?
I’m not trying to do anything fancy (no sticky, no tags, no email subscription) and I checked using Twenty Eleven and had the same problem. I also updated the permalinks.

    WordPress 3.5.1.
    bbPress 2.3.2

I’d be most grateful if someone could shed some light on this.

I have exactly the same problem on a virgin install of WP and WPML using the latest builds.

Can someone please help as it seems WPML is a flawed plugin otherwise.

    Hello,
I have upgraded the bbpress to 2.3.2 and buddypress to 1.7.2 . Since then I am having trouble to fix group forums. Well after going through the guide I was able to get the group forums to work. Now I see that when I go to particular group>select forum from group menu, I see that the sub-nav with “Add new topic” and “forum directory” has disappeared from the sub-nav. What I see is that the Add new topic form is seen at the bottom. If there are 20 forum posts, users have to scroll down to start creating new posts. I would like to know if there is any way
    1. to tweek into the template to create an event “Add new post”. If yes , Which is the template that I need to work on?
    2. If I need to work on HTML part of the templates is there, which is the template for group forum?
I am pretty sure many more people are looking for this as there is a major change. Help highly appreciated. Thanks in advance
    Cheers
    Satish

I have already made a forum signup page as directed in these forums and the forum signup is on my widget sidebar of the site. You can see it under “login” which is in bold…to the right of the site. (you probably need to scroll all the way down though)

The problem is, I don’t want a sidebar signup link

I want the link to show right on the forum. It could be below this on the main page or above it. I don’t really care.. I just want the link on the main forum page.

Home › Forums › Toe of The Camel Forum

I tried searching here but not much luck. How can I do this? I am using a theme from Elegant Themes and it shows the templates but it does not show BBPress as an option which is weird.

How can I make the register link show up on the main forum page and not the sidebar?

    My site is: http://toeofthecamel.com/forums/forum/toe-of-the-camel-forum/

    Just updated Trac.

Here’s my latest findings/ questions on this matter:

Hey JJ, just wanted to drop back in here.
I’ve duplicated my live site on a brand new dedicated server and the behaviour I was seeing on my shared server is still there.

I’ve been doing some tests with a server analyst from my host and his initial thoughts are that WP or BBPress, BP is waiting for a ‘true’ return on mail confirmation before it’s actually allowing any php to continue/ refresh the page to let the user see his post.

If I open up a new browser window and refresh the activity stream for example – AS THE OTHER WINDOW IS STILL PROCESSING THE POST – I can see that it has actually ALREADY been posted.
This means the post is being written to the DB pretty quickly and mail is starting to be sent with the topic reply subscription notifications, but it seems that the page can’t refresh for the poster until the mail has been sent and some kind of confirmation of that has been received.
It makes no difference whether I send the email locally or through SMTP (Google Apps), so it’s not the mail server being slow.

The topic that this is worst on still only has about 30 subscribers though, so it’s hardly hundreds or thousands.

I’m guessing that not many users even on BIG sites will get loads more than 30 or so for each topic, so this is why this may have gone unnoticed in the past.
Could you guys explain to me the process of what BBPress is actually going through BEFORE it is allowed to refresh the page the user who is posting is on.
Their post is being posted way before they get to see it – does the page wait for confirmation of the emails being sent.

There isn’t a problem posting new topics with no replies or very few voices.
I think it has to be something along these lines. Thanks! 🙂

I downloaded and installed bbPress. Put together a forum with three topics, added it to an existing page on my WordPress driven site and all was great! Half a dozen people registered, a couple of discussions began…it worked great. Now, all of a sudden with no warning, the forum is gone. If you click the page to view it, you see the path for the forum at the top, but nothing else: no topics, no area to add a topic or comment, nada. I’ve tried everything I can think of short of deleting the forum and starting over from scratch. Any thoughts? P.S. I can still see the forum and all topics/posts from the dashboard. I’m using wordpress 3.5.1 and bbPress 2.3.2. My site is henderson.lpnc.org.
Thanks for any help or advice!
