Thanks for the replies. I have faith in BBPress…it’s a very stable and lightweight product so it has a strong base to build from. If it can achieve even a fraction of what wordpress has, I think many people will be happy. I hope to contribute to the best of my ability as well, and I think I will be sticking with BBPress.

    Cheers

There’s also PunBB and FluxBB (fork of PunBB) as alternatives.

Both are also lightweight and actively in development.

Although if you’re using WordPress for your main blog/CMS, you should think about sticking with bbPress for your forum.

    Hi Raize

bbPress is currently in that stage. There are a number of us who will be contributing to the new bbpress so that it will be a mature package.

See this link for more information about the starting steps of this make-over: https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/help-out-with-bbpress

bbPress will take a while before it gets on it’s feet again – once it does, it’ll be great – competing with the likes of phpBB and SMF (vBulletin is out of the question as it is too ‘full’ of junk.)

I highly suggest using bbPress. I’m using it here: http://www.inniosoft.co.cc/devstation. As you can see, the quality is good and it caters for most things. Once bbPress starts getting better, upgrading will be easy. Also, if you have a WordPress Blog, you’ll be able to integrate the two. bbPress is aimed at simplicity and good operations.

(I had already posted this but got accidentally closed it, so resubmitting)

I would like a quote on integrating WordPress, bbPress, and Memberwing membership system.

To see what I need —

1)Go to http://internet101.biz/wordpress-how-to and join the site (upper right “Free registration for premium content”)

2)Login and then go to the Forum http://internet101.biz/forums . You will be logged in but won’t be able to post because there is no bbPress role defined for Memberwing “Bronze member”.

What I want is for bbPress “member” role to be assigned from Memberwing “Gold member”.

Write to me directly from http://everymanmarketing.com/contact/. I would expect this a 1 or 2 hour job.

I still have the same problem, I’m logged in the WordPress, but can’t log-in in the BBPress. The strangest thing is that the cookies are the same and wordpress_logged_in is with / path. I also have cookie with path to bb-admin folder , but I’m still not logged into the BBAdmin. Any ideas where is the problem?

I still can’t get it. I even renamed the directory BBPress to see if that would somehow help! so it should now be at http://www.schooladmissionappeals.co.uk/BBpress – still no joy.

I checked and in the admin folder there are three install files (install rtl.cc, install css, install php). I am probably making some really obvious mistake but I just can’t get my head around it (it took me half a day to manage wordpress’s 5 minute install so I should have expected some issues!)

    Any help is much appreciated.

followed instructions for the cookies and still resulted in me loggin in 1 side and auto-logout on the other.

also would like to know which plug-in should i use for the wordpress if i want ,primarily to…

    – i want my wordpress homepage to show 5 columns x 5 rows of latest post image, which will be grabbed from a few specific forum in BBpress. i also need a few buttons to sort or filter results by recent,by view counts, by specific forum

-i want my wordpress to have a few horizontal navigation bars at the header instead of the default ones at the side.

-i want to be change the default header image to my own and able to make my left/right sides blank like this forum. the left/right sides should be easily customized with my preferred wallpaper.

i hope i’m not asking for too much.

    thanks in advance

Regarding the number of available plugins for the current version, I started a topic on this

    https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/list-of-working-plugins-with-102

so far, 34 plugins listed as working, I still have to add a couple more…

many that are written to be compatible with 0.9 or earlier, do work with 1.0.2 (we should update the plugin directory).

    Hi Guys,

My name is Dan Milward and I’d like to help. I’ve always yearned for a better bbPress + WordPress integration. Ages ago when we integrated bbPress on our site I thought it would be cool to make a shortcode to run bbpress or significant portions of it from WordPress.

This is how we want to contribute – by doing this.

    Skills are advanced.

    Best,

    Dan

Not to worry – I did some research and found what I was looking for. Simply integrated it into the existing htaccess file – all is working just fine. :)

About that – I’m not sure exactly how it is done.

I have two pages set up: FAQ and Rules. What do I need to add to the htaccess file, and which file do I use?

We use the bbpages plugin and simply do some url rewrites in htaccess to make the urls prettier.

    Hi gang,

I’m an enthusiast of all things WordPress and would love to help out if I can.

Being unemployed right now, I’ve definitely got some TIME.

My php/javascript skills are kind of entry level, my html/css skills are fairly advanced. That being said, I’d love to get my hands dirty with the code end of things and I’m more than willing to do any testing that’s necessary or write up some documentation.

Just point me at a problem and I’ll get to work.

    Hi there :)

I’m not 100% sure how it would work on a manual basis. There is a plugin called bbPages (https://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/bbpages/) that will have support for “pretty permalinks” in the near future.

Some-one may have to take over the development of this plugin. It may happen in the next couple of months.

You came to the project either a little too early or a little too late, depending on how you look at it. The project is in transition right now so there’s not a lot of visible stuff going on with it. There is quite a bit of discussion behind the scenes.

    To address your specific points:

    1. yes, the idea is to keep the core light and add plugins to establish the functionality with plugins.

    2. https://bbpress.org/plugins/

    3. there used to be a site called bbshowcase.org that listed many bbPress sites. That site was recently taken down. You can see people posting about their sites here https://bbpress.org/forums/forum/pimp-your-press and with a little creative googling you can find bbPress forums as well http://www.google.com/search?q=%22powered+by+bbpress%22

If you need functionality that is included in a plugin, be sure to check the version compatibility to be sure it works with the version of bbPress you want to use. There are not currently many plugins for 1.0: most were written to be compatible with 0.9 or earlier. If you want login integration bbPress 0.9 with the latest WordPress, there are plugins to make the cookies compatible between the two versions.

Look the following image; it’s a fatal error with social-it 1.4.

    http://s2.subirimagenes.com/imagen/previo/thump_3676975fatalerror.png

I have tested with the other versions, but the problem continues. I have wordpress 2.8.6

    Any solutions?

Sorry for my English level, I am a Spanish student.

If you’re looking to have a community within your Blog, you should really be using BuddyPress. It adds a social/community layer onto your existing WordPress MU installation.

Like Chrishajer said, bbPress is not for that – it is simply forum software.

I’m using bbPress for a community – but it’s a Discussion-based community. So a forum is great for that.

Visit my forum to see what I mean: http://www.inniosoft.co.cc/devstation

    WordPress: 2.86

    BBpress: 1.0

I have installed bbpress integration and done all things following the instructions. However, I still need to login again when i switch from wordpress to bbpress or vice versa.

    what is the problem?

I am pretty bummed because I thought that was one of the benefits of using this forum over others.

1.) The forum seems a bit lacking in features after setting it up. Is the idea that additional functionality for the forum comes from additional plugins?

2.) Where is the complete listing of available plugins for bbPress?

3.) Where can I find examples of other people’s bbPress forums? The site only had two and one of them I have no way of seeing without a username and password.

    Thanks.
