    Extremely trivial I know, but:

    bbPress is forum software with a twist from the creators of WordPress. Create a simple and engaging community to compliment your WordPress powered website or blog.

    “Compliment” fits grammatically and is even semantically sensible… but assuming the overriding purpose of bbPress is not merely to enable site visitors to shower website administrators with praise, it’s “complement” you’re after!

    You are using WordPress 3.3.1.

    Example of problem:

    http://wbbg.com/blog/forums/forum/member-forum/

    #112912

    Hmm, that’s weird. What version of WP/bbPress are you running?

    bbPress should work no matter what permalink structure you have WordPress set to use.

    #112919

    Sure.

    The forums will be separate for each site, but will share user accounts.

    On this bbpress forum page of my WordPress site:

    http://www.readingmarx.net/?topic=circulation

    there is a a log of edits:

    This reply was modified 80 days ago by Bis.

    This reply was modified 80 days ago by Bis.

    This reply was modified 80 days ago by Bis.

    etc. etc.

    How do I remove this feature from this page or from my settings for any page?

    Thank you

    Bis

    Your feedback is appreciated. It’s not new information, though – and it doesn’t really help us do anything differently to improve your experience here.

    Making bbPress easier to use has been the primary goal of its past 2 years of development. The number one tag on these forums is ‘integration’ and it’s because a majority of users want bbPress to work seamlessly with WordPress. Given the constraints of WordPress’s templating engine, we’ve done a great job with bbPress 2+.

    Had you tried to use bbPress in 2008, you probably would have completely written it off; you *had to* go into the code and make edits to configuration files, it was part of the connection process and there was no turn-key solution.

    Right now, as long as your theme is behaving:

    * Install bbPress

    * Make some forums

    * Go to yoursite.com/forums/

    * You now, have forums

    * Optionally make login/register/lost-password pages, configure widgets, etc…

    If you have BuddyPress installed, if your theme isn’t playing nicely, if you have a page with the slug ‘forums’ already for some reason, if you have anything more complicated you have to go hunting around for solutions. bbPress can’t predict every situation, it can only work with WordPress core files. If you’re experiencing one of these complications, it’s unique to a small subset of users and you (or someone you hire/know) is the expert in your installation.

    You say you don’t want to look at code, and you’re not a developer; that’s okay. The problem is that bbPress isn’t going to be exactly what everyone wants, and why plugins exist. If you decide to dive into the code, it’s been painstakingly documented to read like a book – top down, left to right – with hints, direction, and pointers to connect things together in plain English.

    In terms of staff on these forums, we are a volunteer staff of mostly Jared and myself with others that come and go as they can. When a topic goes unanswered, it’s because we just don’t have the time to take away from other things to help that day. Being disappointed is understandable; the only way that improves is by becoming familiar with the project and committing to time towards it.

    bbPress, the project, has been around since 2005. bbPress, the plugin, since 2011. It’s born again, and new. No better time to get in on the ground floor of something awesome.

    Sorry you’re unhappy. In the future it would be great to have more specific things we can address. General happiness isn’t really what we supply here. :)

    Hi there,

    I am looking into bbPress — but we run a mult-site wordpress configuration.

    Am I able to put forums on each of the sites?

    Ok so I am new to BBPress. I was looking for a quick and easy solution for forums.

    So far so good. Then I updated my permalinks structure in WordPress to be “post-name”

    Now all the forum links come up as 404s.

    Perhaps I am just having a dumb day but I have read the similar problems and cannot make head or tail of them.

    I want my blog in general to use the post name permalink structure, as I like it for SEO purposes. I really could not care less for the Forum. I just want it to work.

    What am I missing?

    Thanks for your help!

    Hi

    Thank you for your reply.

    I have set the forum base to ‘home’ and the page title is ‘home’ but I am still getting the same problem, I have included the link below if that helps.

    Hi folks,

    A newbe to WordPress and bbPress so please forgive me (and advise) if this post is in the wrong place.

    I’m working with my client’s existing website at http://nmhunts.com I’m attempting to create a Forum in which his clients will be able to discuss their hunting experiences. My intent is to create the forum in a subdirectory and link to it from the main website.

    I installed WordPress in folder /wordpress. I installed bbPress. I had to change my Site Address (URL) in General Settings to http://nmhunts.com (from http://nmhunts.com/wordpress) so I could get my log in and log out buttons to work properly. (Without this change, the links would add an extra /wordpress to the url yielding something like http://nmhunts.com/wordpress/wordpress/wp-login.php . . .)

    Now my links to my Registration and Lost Password pages don’t work. The path does not include the /wordpress that it needs. i.e. the buttons are looking for the Registration page at http://nmhunts.com/?page_id=8 instead of http://nmhunts.com/wordpress/?page_id=8.

    Ideally, I would like to get the login and logout links to quit adding the extra “/wordpress” to the path.

    I tried messing around with permalinks and slugs to change the path of these pages but WP apparently won’t allow the forward slash (/) after the

    /wordpress/

    As stated earlier, I am a newbe and I’m hoping that it is my unfamiliarity with WP and bbPress that is preventig me from finding the easy solution. Your help or suggestions are greatly appreciated.

    Hey guys, I just install bbPress on my WordPress website with Magnifizine design, but I have a big problem when I go to forums page, just look at this : http://image.noelshack.com/fichiers/2012/14/1333461538-bbpresswtf.jpg

    How to fix ?

    It is the same problem on “forums” page (list with category/forums), and when I click on a category too.

    No problem on a forum, and no problem while reading a topic.

    Thanks.

    Hi!

    I´m running a wordpress/buddypess/bbpress combination and I also need to change the permalink structure, in a bit different way then eleram – I´m looking for a more logic structure in all forums: example.com/forum/name-of-forum/name-of-post/

    -> replace slug “forum” by name of forum

    -> replace “topic” by name of topic

    I can customize the code, but I´m not sure where to look on.

    @John: “WordPress handles the rewrite rules for bbPress’s content types” -> where do I have to look for (bbpress´ custom post types) to adjust the permalink logic?

    Of course I will share my customization as soon a sfinished.

    Thanks!

    hi all, sorry for bad english. i have installed bbpress by wordpress plugin search tool and i have uploaded the theme in bbp-themes folder (also tryed in my-templates).. now, what to do? lol

    practically i’ve got the same problem http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/where-is-dashboard

    version 2.0.2

    I installed bbPress and created 8 forums and several topics. All was good. I added the bbPress Attachment plugin and now I can no longer access the forums in admin. I can see and edit topics in the admin and on the front end I can see the forums and add/see topics. I just can not access the forums to add, edit, delete on the admin. The link to Forums does not show up on the Admin navigation.

    I am running:

    WordPress 3.3.1

    bbPress Version 2.0.2

    The issue seemed to start after I added the plugin got bbPress Attachments. However, I deleted the plugin (both bbPress and bbPress Attchment) and just reinstalled bbPress.

    On another website I used the same template and added both bbPress and bbPres Attachment and it works fine. I also switched to a bbPress (Twenty ten) and had the same issue.

    Before I had these problems, I edited the Archive Slugs and Single Slugs several times here (Settings >> Forums)

    Currently the slugs are set at:

    forum

    topic

    topic-tag

    I do have the warnings: Possible bbPress conflict: Forum slug

    However, I get warning no matter what I put in these fields.

    Any suggestions?

    Hey Jared, just to share this with you, i finally did what i need it in the front page with a tabs plugin found at

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wordpress-post-tabs/

    and the shortcodes found at

    https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/bbpress-20-shortcodes

    you can check it out in the main page of quimbumbia dot org any comments will be apreciated..

    Thanks for the support!!

    the only thing i need to find now is a shortcode for most visited and most commented ;)

    Thanks John

    so I need to use “Rewrite API/add rewrite rule” in wordpress, isn’t?!

    Unfortunately not easily. WordPress handles the rewrite rules for bbPress’s content types. It’s possible to overload them, but you’ll need to do so on your own.

    #112795

    In reply to: Breadcrumb problem

    1. Create a WordPress page with the same slug as your forums root

    2. Add the [bbp-forum-index] shortcode to that page’s content

    3. Make this page the front page of your site

    I got this solution… which is probably not so clean but it works; previously I had already created a function to retrieve the full width bp avatar in wordpress, now I looked at the bbp code and filtered the function fetching the avatar in replies with that function I had previously created

    function sg_author_avatar($size) {
    global $post;
    if ( function_exists('bp_core_fetch_avatar') ) {
    echo apply_filters( 'bp_post_author_avatar', bp_core_fetch_avatar( array( 'item_id' => $post->post_author, 'type' => 'full', 'height' => $size, 'width' => $size ) ) );
    }
    elseif ( function_exists('get_avatar') ) {
    echo get_avatar(get_the_author_meta('ID'), $size );
    }
    }

    function sg_bp2bb_author_avatar() {
    $author_avatar = sg_author_avatar('150');
    }
    add_filter('bbp_get_reply_author_avatar', 'sg_bp2bb_author_avatar')

    Hi all. I’ve read that there is no way that the main page of wordpress can be the forum itself, but i wonder if I can take the code of the bbpress that hanlde all the forums and insert it as an include into the wordpress index.php. if that is posible an some one help me telling me which part of the code is the one I can copy to call the forum and topics in to the very front page.

    I’ve seen i can show all that in the sidebar, but i would like to make it the main page like the forum page with the latest topics, most comented and most visited.

    Thank you

    Are you on bbPress 2.x or 1.x?

    If you are on 2.x do not use the plugins on bbPress.org, instead use WordPress.org

    https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/tags/bbpress

    Done that too, anyway there’s nothing else being loaded on forums besides forums, as I said I haven’t touched yet the template files, just copypasted into my theme. Other than the forums themselves, in the forum pages, there are being loaded just wordpress menus. As I said it looks like they are ordered in the frontend based on their ID not on the page order. Which is the function listing all the forums in the template files? Can I try perhaps forcing the order or if I know which is the function responsible for that perhaps I can throw some PHP to reorder them manually – in this case may I know how it is stored the ordering variable?

    thanks

    Hi All,

    Read the instructions and installed through wordpess.

    The options I have seem very limited and read about a BBPress Dashboard but cannot locate it.

    On WordPress I can see Forums/Topics/Replies and a few basic settins in Settings Forum.

    But nothing that seems to give you any degress of control.

    I have obviously missed something and from searches so have many people on the internet.

    I would like to install a set theme for the BBPress – I have created my-templates and added theme static-red I found. But cannot locate how to activate.

    I am sure it will be on the BBPress Dashboard (probably)

    Any pointers to its location and how to access it would be great.

    Or it maybe I have access to all the options and have just missed it.

    Thanks in advance.

    D
