I would like to install bbpress on a wordpress site I am trying to build- all static pages, so all loged in users to the website domain and sub domains (not multi site) have access to the forum and public viewers of the site do not know the forum exists. Also, the forum should not be indexed or published on the internet.
I can’t belive, that this is acutally no out of the box function for bbpress / wordpress – but I have really big issues, with having certain forums or topic just accessable for certrain user groups.
It seems impossible, to create something, like user-groups, only roles can be done – thats okay. But Even with the Members Plugin, where I can create certain roles, it is absolutely impossible to specify, which user-role has access to a forum or topic.
Ex.: I created a user Role, then I created a forum, and I set the User-Role I created to be the only User role, that should have acccess to it. If I set the visibility to public, everyone could see it, If I set it to private, only logged in users could see it – everyone.
Isn’t there ANY way, to let my customer
- create User Groups (or roles)
- apply them to users
- and specify at each forum OR Topic, which user role should have access
We really need this! I know that this is possible with BuddyPress, but with my years of WordPress Experience, I have still no clue how to make a hole BuddyPress Site – there is no satisfying documentation about it. (as well as with bbpres.. btw..)
Hello guys,
I am running wordpress 3.4.1 and bbpress 2.1.2..
The Add this topic to your favorites and Subscribe button works well for Administrators but not for Authors
Author clicks those links, the span goes red color and happens nothing..
Would anyone suggest me what may be causing this?
Thank you!
Hi there, can any kind expert help me out? I’ve been doing lots of trial and error but I still can’t figure out the solution:
When I set my bbpress forums to wordpress home page, the page layout gets messed up
i.e. http://semjunkie.com/
If one goes directly to the forum page, the page layout displays how its supposed to
i.e. http://semjunkie.com/forums/
I really want bbpress to be on the home page though, is there anything I can do to make it display correctly when its set to static home page?
Hi
i use worpress 3.4.1 and I installed bbpress 2.1.2 on my site karnhack.com.
I have the permalink activated (I have tried to reset it) and the wordpress page is named karnhack.com/forum-test
When i click the forum “provaforum” bbpress opens the contents out of my site and ignores the permalink /forum-test/
Could someone help me? thank you very much
When a user login to the the site, they are automatically logged out out when the forum is visited. The only exception is the ‘admin’
I really need a fix to this issue.
I’m using the latest version of WordPress, and my site is http://www.cvshore.com; bb version is 2.1.2
No, you do not need BuddyPress installed.
Is the bbPress plugin activated on your plugins settings? (if it is deactivate it and reactivate it)
There are three new menu items on your WordPress navigation menu. These are:
Forums – create and manage your forum.
Topics – topics are created within forums, they are the issues that are being discussed.
Replies – replies are made to topics, this is the actual discussion.
You should be able to see your forums at http://yourdomain.com/forums/
You can also create a standard WordPress page and add a shortcode eg. [bbp-forum-index] (This will Show your entire forum index) to the page content.
You can then add either to any of your main WordPress menus for easy navigation.

netweb, thanks for your reply. I had previously looked at the bbpress getting started page, but did go back again per your suggestion. Unfortunately, I am unable to apply anything past the installation. I did not install BuddyPress – do you have to install BuddyPress in order to get bbpress to work?
When I go to my WordPress dashboard “Pages/All Pages” there is no sign of any forum page – I suspect that this is probably closely related to my problem, which is that I don’t have any idea how to “connect” bbPress forum pages to my WordPress blog (e.g. for hyperlinks). I am assuming that the primary purpose of creating bbPress was to make it function effectively and somewhat seamlessly with WordPress – but I can’t find anything that tells me what the developers have in mind for that?
Thanks for your help and advice
bbPress does allow shortcodes for security reasons, you should look at something like https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress2-shortcode-whitelist/
To order your replies in reverse order add the following code to your themes functions.php file.

Bingo! as soon as you said “conflicting” I knew it was the wordbooker plugin. Wordbooker integrates wordpress with Facebook.
But that for sure has to be a bug. Is it bbpress bug or Wordbookers bug? I don’t want to compromise between those two but if I have to choose I choose to have a forum.
Try this and post the link back here:
Does this now include the forum description?

> Visibility: decide whether your forum is public, private or hidden.
> Public – Anyone can see these forums
> Private – Only logged in registered users can see these forums
> Hidden: Only Moderators/Admins can see these forums

If you want further granular access you should use a plugin to control the access privs:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/members/ or
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/s2member/

> permalink structure and save. Then select your preferred permalink

Have you had a look at BuddyPress Courseware?
It may have some of what you are trying to do already done, and a bit more 😉

If you just want to keep rolling your own, get started with your own templates customizations here:

For your second issue could you please create a ticket on trac https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ with as much detail as you can.
For the first issue does repairing the forums fix your problem?
https://codex.bbpress.org/repair-forums
The best thing I can suggest is to create a ticket on trac https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/
Once/if/when the following plugin is updated to support bbPress 2.1x (it is currently broken) it should do what you are looking for:
https://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/bbpress-threaded-replies/
That’s the only option I can suggest at the moment
It prevents users from flooding your site with posts and is ‘Throttle Time’ setting in your forums WordPress Dashboard -> Settings’ -> ‘Forums’
Also have a look at this thread for more info
Slow down; you move too fast

Go to your WordPress dashboard -> ‘Settings’ -> ‘Media’ and change ‘Maximum embed size’ width/height to suit your needs.
I think you may need to wait for the plugin to be updated to work with bbPress 2.1x

It does seem strange, could you create a ticket/bug report on Trac with ‘if you can’ detailed reproduction steps and some screenshots would probably also help so we can look further into this please.
