    For some reason when I log into my dashboard under Settings I no longer see Forums as an option. If I go to the plugins page and click BBpress settings from there I get a permission error. Also when I view WordPress users the Forum roles are blank for all my users. I recently deleted one of my admin users and think this might be the problem. Is there a way to verify forum roles via the mysql db?

    Right, so I have a website that’s just for my mates, and I’m using BuddyPress. I made a few “Divisions”, since my website’s a domain for my group on XBOX Live. So I go on the Divisions page, and I look around for a change avatar button. (Currently, the logo is just a blank box with “—–‘s Logo”) I can’t find a button anywhere. I tried changing my theme to the BuddyPress theme, also I tried with TwentyEleven, and it still happens. On my sub-domain I have on another site, I tried it, and it works. (The theme on the sub-domain is TwentyEleven).

    Can someone help? If you need it, here’s a list of all the plugins that are active:

    BP-Registration Options
    BP Avatar Suggestions
    BuddyPress
    BuddyPress Template Pack
    Wordpress Popular Posts
    Color My Posts

    Wordpress version: 3.5.1
    bbPress version: 2.3
    site: http://www.heavenlyz.com

    Apologies if this is considered cross-posting, as this appears as a reply to another thread (but that other thread title isn’t similar). The other thread is… http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/non-functional-index-page-when-bbpress-2-1rc4-is-used-with-woothemes-canvas-5-05/#post-133638

    Ok, so newbie here who knows html and understands coding but is really keen to not screw up the site that someone else has built for me (so apologies if the answer is above and I’m not seeing it).

    The site is http://www.heavenlyz.com and, I think, I’m using the “Nollie” theme.

    I’ve installed bbpress, created a couple of forums and – via the great info on this thread – created a page called “Boardroom”, into which I’ve inserted the “[bbp-forum-index]” shortcode. Hey presto, after much head scratching, I can now see a forum index on http://www.heavenlyz.com/boardroom/…woohoo

    But, my next challenge is to be able to open one of the forums shown. Am struggling with this.

    Having searched, the most relevant answer seems to be… http://bbpress.org/forums/topic/non-functional-index-page-when-bbpress-2-1rc4-is-used-with-woothemes-canvas-5-05/#post-133638

    If you think there is a better (read “easier” 🙂 solution, then please suggest but if not, please read on…

    Because I am using the Nollie theme – I think – the parent/ child argument in that thread doesn’t apply, so am looking at changing the root page.php only (to be honest, I wouldn’t know how to work out whether the child page exists/ how to find the child page).

    In the thread linked to above, Lab says

    Next, change the entry div as shown, to modify the current conditional check to ALSO see if you are on a bbPress page. Without this extra bit, it assumes that you want the page to show the_excerpt() on every page other than single.php …. not true. We want full content on bbPress pages as well

    But my page.php says…

    ID, ‘mfn-post-layout’, true) ) {
    case ‘left-sidebar’:
    $class = ‘ with_aside aside_left’;
    break;
    case ‘right-sidebar’:
    $class = ‘ with_aside aside_right’;
    break;
    default:
    $class = ”;
    break;
    }
    ?>

    Where’s the “entry div”? Apologies if this is a laughably stupid question.

    All help appreciated. N.b. As I’m learning, to start with, I’d rather keep the changes simple and effective rather than complex and golden.

    At first, sorry about my english, i’m not fluent.
    WordPress version:3.5.1
    bbPress version: 2.3
    Theme: Origin version 0.3.5

    The problem don’t happen with TwentyTwelve.
    I’m using a very modified version of Origin from AlienWP. Everything works fine with bbPress, except any forum page (list of topics). It stays blank.

    Checking the code in this blank page, we can see that nothing after site description is loaded, not even the content is opened. Theme header stops at this point:

    `…

    /** STOPS HERE ***/

    …`

    I tried to create a new “normal” page and use the shortcode [bbp-single-forum id=2633] to list topics;, it works, but there’s a link on breadcrumbs (inside each topic) that still pointing to original forum list.

    I really don’t want to change my theme, so any idea is appreciated.

    Links
    Main forum list (working) http://www.memoriabit.com.br/forums/
    Forum page – list of topics (not working) http://www.memoriabit.com.br/forums/forum/sega-mega-drive-genesis/
    Topic (working) http://www.memoriabit.com.br/forums/topic/super-monaco-gp/

    I use BBPress-topic-to-post plugin to replace my wordpress replies for bbpress topics.
    Now I face the problem that I would like to link from BBpress forum to my posts
    Can anybody help me?

    f.e.
    domain.com/forums/forum/forumname contains links to forumtopics. These links I’d like to redirect to the orginal post

    So changing the link from
    domain.com/forums/topic/xxx/ (xxx is a post AND a forumtopic thanks to the plugin)
    to
    domain.com/xxx/

    Hope my questiosn is clear. If not, I’m looking for the file with the hardcode of domain.com/forums/forum/forumname

    I have the very same issue and to make it clear: i’m using Origin theme too, and the breadcrumbs on topic page have a link to forums list (works fine) and to forum which those topic belongs (don’t work).

    Even creating a blank page with the shortcode [bbp-topic-index], how to use same slug (WordPress automatically puts a number 2 in the end)?

    Forums list (working fine) http://www.memoriabit.com.br/forums/
    Forum (not working) http://www.memoriabit.com.br/forums/forum/sega-mega-drive-genesis
    Topic (working fine) http://www.memoriabit.com.br/forums/topic/super-monaco-gp/

    Thanks in advance.

    I totally agree, this is a much needed function and is included in the majority of forums software. I am constantly asked for this and I cannot do anything about it. I really hope this ships with bbpress2 in the near future and I hope that developers of this great software take my request and the OP’s request to heart. The proof is in the pudding so to speak, if you look at the votes on this page you will see most people voting for BBPM to be updated for bbpress http://nightgunner5.wordpress.com/2011/03/12/bbpm-plugin-plugin/

    this is a necessary update we all need.

    I think you’re right about the dynamic capabilities in bbPress, but I’ve had weird situations where I’ve changed a capability in WordPress and it affects bbPress functionality (eg https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/topics-are-invisible-for-all-users-except-for-admin/#post-124896)

    Good to hear you’ve found the culprit. It is quite an old plugin (over 3 years old), so it would’ve been compatible with an older version of WordPress, and most likely some of its functions have been deprecated since. Are you able to find an alternate but similar plugin?

    hm, thx for the feedback, so I did this:

    – all plugins off except bbpress and User Role Editor: posting worked. so now I am re-activating all plugins one-by-one to find the culprit.

    The culprit is: WP Easy Uploader

    http://chrisjean.com/wordpress-plugins/wp-easy-uploader/ very old but useful plugin.

    btw. User Role Editor cannot edit bbpress roles as I understand they are dynamic? Not 100% about that statement but haven’t found a way to edit them.

    @ovizii

    It could be one of your plugins that is blocking regular users from posting. I had a similar problem last month and I thought it was a bbPress problem, but it turned out to be another plugin.

    If you have a production version of your website, try to deactivate all of our plugins except bbPress and User Role Editor. Also try to switch back to the default theme, just to confirm that it’s not something in your functions.php that is causing problems. What version of bbPress and WordPress are you using?

    The other thing to try is to use User Role Editor to add capabilities to your Participant role, and keep adding until it fixes the posting issue. Then at least you’ll be able to pinpoint the capability that is causing the problem. But first make sure to create a backup of the Participant role so you can revert back to it.

    HELP!

    Thanks Stephen,

    I finally got it by doing it all manually at a database level.

    Incrementing all of the users, posts, post_meta etc then merging them into the existing database. A little time consuming but got me there in the end and that all that matters really.

    Can anyone provide some guidance on how to implement bbPress in the iThemes Andrina theme.
    Wordpress version 3.5.1
    bbPress version 2.3
    Andrina theme vesrsion 3.2.2

    I activated bbPress and created Forums and Topics but I do not see how to implement it in the same manner as the demonstrations that I have seen on the twenty eleven theme and others.

    Thank You

    I hope this is the right place to ask.

    I am moving away from vBulletin (yay) and on to WordPress.
    Currently I have vBulletin 4.2.0 which includes forum and CMS.

    When I move to WordPress I will not be using bbPress (at least for now).

    Is it still possible for me to export my vB users and import to WordPress 3.5.1 if i’m not using bbPress? And if so, is it easy to do?

    Thanks.

    I may have found the reason for pending posts..

    there were certain words in wordpress (comments) black listed, and I think it has prevented also bbpress new topic/replies being posted automatically

    Previously only the wordpress search was on the page on the left side column. I thought that would be sufficient to search through bbpress posts especially with the plugin that I have, see below. I would like to disable the bbpress search box.

    My plugins are bbpress, bbpressmoderation, bbpress topics for posts, en Spam, search bbpress 2.0, and wanguard.

    Here is my link. http://www.canadianbookclubs.com/forums2/

    Where you see the forum summary section, it used to be the latest posts.

    The new search is a bbPress specific search and while the previous one is a WordPress search. Do you want to disable the bbPress one?

    Can you provide me with a list of plugins you are using? That is likely the culprit at play here.

    And there is a new search box above the new forum summary page. So now I have two search boxes on the page. One that is set by wordpress, and one that has appeared courtesy of the updated bbpress plugin

    Is there any way to revert back to the bbpress plugin before this last update?

    I updated bbpress. Never had problems with the previous updates. Now, I have the following problems on my front page:

    Oh bother! No topics were found here! (why has this appeared? Comes from div id=”bbpress-forums” and div class=”bbp-template-notice”

    Even though my front page is checked for latest posts. It is now showing my forum summary page. Why is bbpress plugin superseding the wordpress of only showing latest posts?

    I never changed anything in bbpress files.
