try all the general troubleshooting first, if you have other plugins deactivate them, and switch to a default theme like twentytwelve or twentyfifteen.

create me a simple subscriber/participant account so i can check out the quicktags toolbar, send the login details to my email.

search like google or the wordpress search??

you might have to edit your forum in the back-end of WordPress and if you have an SEO plugin activated change it to NOINDEX.

reply back if you need more help with this.

The additional fields might have to be some custom development so consider hiring a developer.

I would like for my users to have the option of creating topics for the forum through the toolbar option ‘+ New‘ that the admin or moderators have. Many users will not understand the minimalist editor (the same that this forum has) and may discourage user threads and possibly replies. One of the plugins I installed was User Role Editor as you cannot change permissions by default. Is there something that I am missing within that plugin or what are the available options? Even if users could not use the editor I use TinyMCE Advanced I would be happy; though I would prefer if they had access to that editor.

    WordPress Version: 4.2.1
    BBPress version 2.5.7

Hello there, I am running my website on WordPress 4.2.1
bbpress version is 2.5.7 and buddypress version is 2.2.3.1.
Now, I have a private set of pages, and within these pages I have my forums and members only content. I was so glad to have buddypress and bbpress working together happily ever after, but then out of the blue once I clicked on ‘allow buddypress to have its own group’ my wordpress went into the ‘white screen of death’.

I am not a developer, but thank goodness I know how to deactivate my plugins.
Long story short, if I activate one of the two (either buddy press or bbpress) everything works fine. Once I active them both, BAM, white screen of death appears.

I know that Envato themes have been having issues with plugins recently, but I find it odd that the white screen happened as soon as I ticked the option. I deleted and reinstalled the whole thing, and now it appears to work as long as I don’t click on that option.

thought you’d like to know, this is the website for reference:

    Hello everyone,
first, I would like to apologize if my writting is not very good, but I’m french and I’m not used in english phrases. And that’s why I dont’ understand some explainations on the blog. so please be soft with me.

I would like to create a page wich gives a view of the last replies of my forum. I tried to create a new page with the short code [bbp-single-view id="last-replies"] but it does’n work when I clik on that page I have a notice “Aucun sujet n’a été trouvé ici!” which means “no topic has been found here!”

I have others questions about short-codes meaning, but I’m going to ask it in another topics.

    thanks for your answers.

    Hi,

Well, I am a bit frustrated 🙂 due to the bbPress 2.5.7 plugin. At first, nothing was going on, as long as I kept logged in after the install. However, after I wanted to login in my admin panel after the initial installation 3 hours later, a problem emerged.

I found out that the bbPress 2.5.7 installation on my WP 4.1.2 (also 4.2.1) platform results in a redirection loop to my homepage, locking myself (admin) continously out. The funny thing is that I am actually logged in. I can see that at the front end.

When I click on my backend tab in Chrome, which normally loads:

    http://www.wordpress.spiritueleverlichting.nl/wp-login.php

I am redirected to the homepage, though I am actually logged in.

    I have tried the following:

    – deactivating all plugins, to no avail
    – switching themes (20-15), to no avail
    – asking support from Siteground, everything is set up correctly according to them

Via FTP I change the bbPress folder name so I am able to access the backend. Once logged in, I change the folder name back to its original name.

What is interesting is that when I log out while bbPress activited, the following URL emerges after the log out:

    http://www.wordpress.spiritueleverlichting.nl/wp-login.php?redirect_to=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.wordpress.spiritueleverlichting.nl%2Fwp-admin%2Findex.php%3Fpage%3Dbbp-about%26loggedout%3Dtrue&reauth=1

And in my error log, I found the following script:

mod_hive matched URI – normal admin URL – with match 2, referer: – admin URL with redirection

I am just wondering if somebody has something meaningful to say about the redirection loop to my homepage.

Thank you very much in advance.

    Best regards,
    Bark

I am missing all of the html formatting buttons with the exception of “close tags”. I have them turned on in the settings, but nothing is visible for my users. Any suggestions of where to start?

    My website is http://www.allthingsbranson.com/forums

I am using the latest wordpress and bbpress. I tried uninstalling and deleting the plugin and reinstalling the latest version. Sacrificing all of our topics, I still had no luck correcting this issue.

Thanks a bunch for the code, both @robkk and @undergroundnetwork!

I’m running Avada theme, with latest WordPress 4.2.1 and BBPress 2.5.7 and this works perfectly.

Seems like this *should* be an option in WordPress when BBPress is installed: “Check the box to include Forum Topics and Replies in the sitewide search”. Would be a helpful addition.

Luckily we have this resource, so thanks again for the code snippets.

    Hi everyone

I am having a lot of trouble getting bbPress to work with my WordPress site that is using the Warp7 framework from yootheme.

Some views work fine, like the main forum view, adding topics and replies but there are some that don’t give any content back like when you click on an author’s name, and others that look a bit messed up like when you look at the list of all forums.

The site is live but this page is not in the menus yet, feel free to have a look if that helps:

    http://www.aida.org.au/forum-test/topic/welcome-to-the-aida-members-forum/

I know that the Warp7 framework does things in a bit of a non-traditional way, but I am hoping that someone can help me get these two to play nicely together!

    Thanks in advance

    Hello!

Until recently I have got no problems but when I upgraded my WordPress to 4.2 version and my Bbpress to 2.5.7 version all the topics disappeared. I`ve got them on my dashboard, but when I try to find them in the user mode I fail. It is written that no topic has been created yet. How to fix this problem, who knows? Is there any way to do that without waiting for some patches? Well, the way to do that with help of shiftback to the older version of WP is not the right one, because other plugins on my site require it.

    Thanks for you possible help!

Hi. The ending / (trailing slash?) added automaticly if you setup something like /news/%POST_ID%/ on the WordPress permalinks page. And not be added if no slash at the end — /news/%POST_ID%. This works because I use user_trailingslashit() inside the code.

BuddyPress group forums not supported yet. Something hardcoded inside and I not find the solution to this issue right now but I keep digging. 🙂

If anyone stumbles upon this thread and is interested in a css solution, here is the code I use. It goes in the ‘Appearance’ -> ‘Editor’ section on the wordpress control panel or in ‘~/<your theme folder>/style.css’:

    .bbp-template-notice.info { display: none; }

if you did read those already you might need @netweb’s help since he knows more about this stuff.

or you could hire a developer to do this for you,

post a job at http://jobs.wordpress.net/ if you do this route come back with some kind of information to hopefully help out other users.

    @tomorrowsretail

why did you avoid the Recalculate the position of each reply option??

and you might also have to split our import file into pieces if you haven’t already.

other than that @netweb maybe would chime in to help out.

    @tonycntr

you could remove some capabilities from some user roles

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/members/

this guide will help find the user capabilies ( what they do is self explanatory)

    https://codex.bbpress.org/bbpress-user-roles-and-capabilities/

as for a membership plugin s2 member and pmpPRO (its free) with its bbPress addon should be two good candidates.

    @kellygree

but when I try to register it direct me to my wordpress login page

ive looked into this and its normal, its because the register form functionality isnt really finished

    https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/2137

you can use the default WordPress registration pages if you want they are fine for user registration for all your users, and you could customize the default WordPress registration pages with some other plugins too.

if you want dedicated front-end forms use a plugin like this

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/theme-my-login/

our login shortcode [bbp-login] works fine though.

Did you know bbPress has had a JSON API available for ~2 years?

Well, not quite, if you use Jetpack and enable the WordPress.com JSON API:
Custom post type and metadata support in the REST API

Because we love bbPress, we’ve bundled in support for bbPress and the REST API directly into Jetpack, so that you can read, write and edit bbPress forums, topics and replies right out of the box. You can also use this file as an example on how to bundle support in your own plugins or themes.

Anyways, as you state in your post you’ve seen the work Brent has done, once I get some time and a few other interested parties we’d like to look at incorporating this into bbPress core 🙂

For what it’s worth I have started on a bbPress app.

It’s a personal project and one that I want to do to hone my Android development skills (I am a professional developer, but have no Java experience!!). It’s something I will continue with regardless of other commercial implementations.

The idea is that you can add any number of bbPress sites, once the WP REST API is in core you won’t need any additional plugins for it to work. I’d also like to make it easy for others to produce a custom / branded app that works for their own site only.

You can find out more here:

WordPress JSON Rest API bbPress and Android

I will host on GitHub once I have some basics in place.

This will be Android only, cos hey, nice for Android to have exclusives for a change ;). I’m sure someone will do an iOS one someday…
