Update: It does seem to be my theme. When I switch to Kakumei, I don’t have the problem.

I’m using a modified version of Misty for bbPress. I’ve been using pretty much the “stock” theme, aside from some CSS tweaks. Yesterday, I removed the javascript in header.php but it didn’t change anything (I thought it might be causing a conflict somewhere).

    in forum Troubleshooting

I have bbpress with wordpress integration.

I noteiced that if i log in from wordpress ad administrator, then if i click on Administration in bbpress e get redirected to the forum’s main page.

Instead if i login on bbpress form, e can get to the bbpress’s administration page.

    Is this a bug!?

    thanks!

    bbPress ver 1.0.2

Post Notification ver 1.3 and 1.4 (tried both)

    Wordpress 2.7

    Godaddy hosting

    complete error is:

Warning: mail() [function.mail]: SMTP server response: 451 See http://pobox.com/~djb/docs/smtplf.html.

    in D:***Forummy-pluginspost-notificationnotification.php on line 23

which seems to be indicating a LF error. No mail gets sent. RSS feed is working. WordPress mail is working.

Anyone else seen this or have an answer?

    Thanks!

Since BBpress 0.9’s release almost 2 years ago, we’ve had 5 different WordPress releases. My question here is, which versions of BBpress work with which versions of WordPress?

We dont mention it anywhere (crazy), and far too often the phrase “latest version of bbpress/wordpress” is used in the forum. I know we cant have documentation or change the static pages on this website, or post an HTML table in these forums, so I apologise for the long list:

    I’ll add in

    4) Ability to sort posts per bbPress category, based on WP category

(example: I post a blog post to News and that gets posted to the bbPress category News).

bbPress does have support for Pretty Permalinks, which are SEO friendly. Just go to your admin panel > settings > permalinks. You can change it there. :)

Simple:Press is developed externally – so more effort has been put into bbPress to make sure it integrates properly with WordPress.

    Thanks guys,

Yes, i like bbPress. At First I tried it with the Simple:Press forum plugin for wordpress and it did work well. But the Simple:Press plugin has two downsides, There are a lot of functions and therefore, it is very big. Plus it is very slow. While bbPress is “Simple, fast, elegant”. And this is definitely the reason why I choose bbPress. I am happy with everything except the lack of a simple possibility to add pictures and the SEO friendliness. It would be better for instance if it was combinable with a SEO plugin to change the forum links. What I also see, bbpres has problem to be indexed in Google, the indexing is very slowly. While Simple:Press plugin is much more faster get indexed in google. I don’t know, maybe it’s because of that simple:press is plugin of wordpress.

I have read that bbPress wil be in the future also a wordpress plugin (canonical). I am wondering about it.

I think conceptually you’re going to need to renumber some members, and then change all the places where their old ID was being used, to the new ID.

The odd redirect thing is not really, it looks normal to me. When you try to access bb-admin directly, and you’re not logged in, you get redirected to bb-login.php, with the query string ?re= redirecting you to where you initially wanted to go. It works like that in WordPress too.

Try accessing wp-admin on the same site without being logged in:

Yes, install WordPress first, then install bbPress and follow the instructions for integration. I think these are probably the most recent good instructions on integration:

I am starting a new site which I am wanting to use this with the wordpress. I would like to have it set up very simular to what you have here. How do I do that?

Do I first get the wordpress as the main part of the site and than use this for the forums? and how do I get them to interrogated with each other

This looks hugely useful…. but two ideas to make it more useful:

    1) If it’s based on RSS, you could conceivably pull other blogs in.

    2) It would be cool to have a switch where an admin could choose to pull posts in or not, based on categories or something like that

    3) Some way to let people know that a discussion has been spawned in the forum indicated on the original post…

    Hi guys,

Got a bit of a problem. Installed bbpress integrated it into wordpress got all the bits right so it uses my wordpress database and wordpress logins etc and thats all fine and dandy but none of my pages load.

I can only get to my bb-admin pages but only by going to the direct section say “appearance” I get a page 404 error when I go to http://www.londonmuscle.com/blog/forum/ or http://www.londonmuscle.com/blog/forum/bb-admin/

I havent actually done anything but follow the bb press install instructions so wondered why its not working.

Anyone able to help, Really need to get it sorted asap as this is quite a big part of our business.

    Regards,

    Chris

… something very similar to the way wordpress works now.

Does such a function/plugin exist for bbpress?

If so, I can’t find it. If you know of one, please point it out to me.

but duplicates, owing some content! for example, if ceronimo of WPMU (ID# 23) have comments in WPMU and ceronimo of bbPress (ID# 333) have topics in bbPress, what to do then?

ah ok i see paul…..that actually sounds VERY cool. But would you be able to pull the whole post or how does it work.

I am looking forward to see what you come up with.

@bingsterloot – you are quite correct, no need to reinvent the wheel. Your plugin looks good! For someone synchronizing with their own WordPress, your plugin looks like the perfect solution.

That said, the “Rss Poster Bot” is still something I will pursue as it will allow me to draw on news/posts from a variety of other sources so long as I have a feed. Think of it this way:

    1. a post is made to your favourite news web site
    2. the “Rss Poster Bot” pulls the feed and sees a new item
    3. the bot now makes a post to your bbPress forum, starting a topic
    4. local users are able discuss that news item

I’ll give it a shot in my spare time and see how it turns out.

No need to re invent the wheel here guys. Just DL http://bobrik.name/code/wordpress/wordpress-bbpress-syncronization/ and you are all set.

Hey Paul thanks for the reply. That’s exciting news, and I think it would be a very useful feature for bbPress

As long as the individual posts from wp show up as properly formatted threads, I don’t think theres much more that would be required. Anndd I actually have a small budget set aside for this, so if you shoot me an email me maybe we can work something out and get this done? My email is simon.raize[at]gmail.com

    Cheers bro!

I am planning to create a plugin to do this – I was going to call it my “RSS Posting bot” – with options to post new items to either a single thread or start a new thread for each item, and config to say who (which bbPress user) the bot should post as. Other than general design, however, I’ve not really got too far. Should I take it that you would like such a plugin created? If so, any other features you’d want?

You’ve done an awesome job with this! :)

This is what I LOVE about bbPress – you can do almost anything you like with it. I almost confused your forum for phpBB. Very nice :)

Is there any way to pull new posts from wordpress blog and have them show up in bbPress as a thread with full text? Using RSS would be the best way to do this of course, but will it take some sort of hack or plugin?

I took a look at this plugin but it doesn’t have this functionality: http://bbpress.org/plugins/topic/wordpress-latest-post/
