    Hello!

    I would like to try bbPress forum because of it’s WordPress integration and the advantages that would come with that.

    I currently have a Simple Machines Forum (SMF) with the following statistics:

    Total Members: 98
    Total Posts: 9924
    Total Topics: 1519
    Total Categories: 4
    Total Boards: 34

    Version of SMF: 2.0.11 (Current)
    Version of WordPress: 4.3.1 (Current)
    Version of bbPress: 2.5.8 (Current)

    I’ve read the guide of importing forums here: https://codex.bbpress.org/getting-started/importing-data/import-forums/

    Based on that I’m fairly certain I followed the steps right. I have the server (localhost), the database, the prefix and user added in the import tool. The processing gets stuck at the following point (tried several times):

    Converting topics (57 – 57)

    I did try with ‘Row Limit’ 1 and also tried ‘Delay Time’ between 1-30, but that did not make a difference. I tried to Stop / Start it a few times… nothing.

    I’m not an expert with MySQL databases, so I don’t think I can manually edit the row which is causing the problem.

    Can anyone help with this please?

    Hmm, nothing comes to my mind directly. Maybe with a plugin like https://wordpress.org/support/plugin/bbpress-new-ui ?

    I also saw a lot of ‘Oh bother no topics’ and other messages. You can always use my bbP Toolkit to hide those.

    Pascal.

    Well, you seem to have managed to remove 60K already in the mean time.

    I edited my post, not sure it you saw that, but WordPress proposes PHP 5.6 and not 5.5 as you have. Of course all works, but I remember well, the latest bbPress test runs show increased performance on the higher PHP platform.

    Well, for finding the help and responses, I hope you’re not disappointed.
    Please note that WordPress runs best on PHP 5.6 and higher (you seem to use 5.5) : https://wordpress.org/about/requirements/

    – Have you run all the repair tools of bbpress after import to be sure your structure is optimized ?
    – Have you deactivated any not-needed plugin ? Is your theme ready for bbPress ?
    – Are you using any cache mechanism to improve speed where possible ?
    – Did you try to run performance tools like the P3 plugin performance profiler to narrow down the possible slow parts ? Or gtmetrix.com as starting point ?

    Some further reading: https://codex.bbpress.org/getting-started/improving-performance/

    Also note that in the upcoming bbPress v2.6 (hopefully before the end of this year), a lot of focus went on possible performance issues.

    Hope it helps,
    Pascal.

    well, I am 1000% sure it is bbpress (or wordpress) ‘s codes issue

    Dedicated server
    Intel SSD
    48G ram
    PHP 5.5
    MySQL 5.6

    We were at invisionboard forum system(ZERO issues on this) , with wordpress+bbpress, it hangs even we just try to trash 10 topics….

    reason why I move to wordpress+bbpress? better integration and easier to find someone to help

    We have imported 660K posts forum into bbpress, wordpress ‘s backend management for bbpress just works so BAD for any mass move/delete/trash functions

    e.g. , I now want to remove a forum with 56 topics ONLY, I click “trash” on WP’s /wp-admin, it simply HANGS. It is crazily slow and it never ends done… I could not imagine one day when we need to delete forum spammer’s posts, how slow it will be

    I am ware of that there are some mass move/delete plugins, but they are not for bbpresss

    please help on this if you could, thanks !:)

    bbPress 1x standalone is not going to work with any new WordPress plugins, unless you use custom code to allow it to somehow.

    The plugin list labeled Legacy on this site, is for plugins that with bbPress 1x. The plugins section on this site, pulls plugins that work with bbPress on wordpress.org, are plugins that work with the plugin version of bbPress 2.

    Your users do not really have to type a code?? They just they could just type regular smilies in text and it would output to the icon.

    :) :( :P

    Also I just told you, WordPress has smilies and emojis that you can use. The bbPress plugin can use WordPress’s library too. SO you may not need a plugin.

    I am guessing you want something like a custom quicktag button that will show a dropdown of the smiles on your site. I can create a ticket for this if you want, and then we can see what the devs think of trying to add this to core.

    @yolandal

    If you have the bbPress plugin activated on your WordPress site.

    Go to Tools > Forums, then select the Import Forums tab at the top, then in the forum platform dropdown select mingle forum.

    Well here is the trac ticket for Drupal Advanced Forum.

    https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/2756

    Any help toward creating it/leading us to the right software to test out is greatly appreciated.

    Apologies about bumping the thread. I was new to the forum. I tried BBPress as standalone first and that didn’t want to work with the WP plugins. I then made it part of a WP Website, and that didn’t work for the smiley plugin WP-Monalisa. Suggest that it should at the very least be removed from the bbPress list of plugins as it is listed here. AND it didn’t work for my stand alone Website.

    I really don’t want my visitors to have to type a code first before I see the smiley. I want it as one would find everywhere else in real forums. Without a plugin. I also don’t want to code it. WordPress is supposed to be for people who don’t have to get under the dashboard, preferably stay out of it. I spent probably a few hours last night researching this and I know for a fact I’m not the only one asking WordPress and especially bbPress to add smileys to people who make posts without having to load a plugin for it – or in the very least create a dedicated plugin by the developer of the bbPress that works at the time of downloading the stand alone software or WP Plugin.

    @kiss_the_sky

    Not entirely sure what the exact code is.

    I think it is caching the forums using the transient api. That plugin I mentioned definitely has this type of feature though, uses a custom query I think.

    I’m going through the same process right now. I’m migrating a very large site from Drupal 6 to WordPress and I’ve written the queries for most of the site now, but now I got to the point where I need to migrate the forum (which is Advanced Forum too) and from the looks of it I think I’m gonna have to write my own queries/scripts.

    Did you find a way to do it?

    Closest thing I can think of is to use a quote plugin like this, which when a user is quoted will insert an @user for each user quoted.

    That crashed my sight for some reason. Any thoughts?

    @tallsam

    Did you place the code snippet I placed earlier correctly?? It seems to work fine on my test site.

    Same thing goes for @pinkishhue‘s code.

    These both work if you want to show only 1 revision log on the Frontend of your forums.

    But first, is there going to be an update to bbpress that will remove the extra revision statements? If so, any thoughts on when this will be ready?

    Not really remove the statements, but just make 1 visible. Have no idea when @netweb’s code will make it into core.

    @tallsam

    Do you want them all gone?? This topic is all about just having one visible on the frontend.

    Also there might be a bug about the revisions somewhere I think. Haven’t fully checked that one out though.

    But you can always disable the revision logging from being displayed in the forums in Settings > Forums, there will still be revisions on the edits in the backend though, since it is a post type in WordPress. And hide the existing revisions with CSS using the first half of pinkishhue’s code.

    There is a way to limit the total number of revisions kept per post though in WordPress.

    But if you do want to completely remove the revisions you can use a plugin that @casiepa listed, but this may remove ALL revisions of any post or plugin using the revision system in WordPress. Some custom css plugins may use it, and clearing the revisions may lose all your saved styles.

    @deanhills

    First don’t bump up 7 year old topics, it is annoying.

    Second that bbPress in this topic was a standalone forum software and is entirely different from the plugin version now.

    bbPress can use WordPress’s supplied smilies.

    🙂 🙁 😛

    And even its emojis

    I can’t find the setting to ensure I get notified whenever a new post is added.

    There isn’t a setting by default in bbPress. THere are a ton of plugins for this though.

    This plugin that I found might work for you.

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/bbp-notify-admins/

    I cannot find their emails or names at all in my user tab of my wordpress admin

    It should be there if you are using the bbPress plugin.

    Is the data blank but the users are there, can you not see the columns or something??

    Hi, let me try to cut these questions in different parts.
    I only get email notifications on some new topics and replies.
    Some basic things: You need to subscribe to the forum to get new topics. You need to subscribe to the topic to get the replies. You will not get notifications for your own topics that you post.
    Said that, it seems that on some forums there are issues in getting out the emails. You could try by installing a plugin like https://wordpress.org/plugins/asyncronous-bbpress-subscriptions/ and I would also suggest to use an SMTP tool (like postman smtp or other) that has good logs so you can find out what is happening.
    I can’t find the setting to ensure I get notified whenever a new post is added.
    As you are on the bbPress forum, I suppose you talk about ‘topic’ and not ‘post’ ? If you talk about new topics, you need to be sure to be subscribed to the forum. You could use a plugin e.g bbP Manage Subscriptions to have the overview of who is subscribed to what forum.
    I cannot find their emails or names at all in my user tab of my wordpress admin….
    If you just use bbPress on WordPress, you have to find them there. If not, you will have to ask in a pure wordpress forum. If you would also use BuddyPress, then it’s better to ask in their forum.

    Hope it gives you some directions.
    Pascal.

    Also, my users are not being stored.
    I cannot find their emails or names at all in my user tab of my wordpress admin….

    Hello,

    I recently added a bbpress forum to my wordpress site and I encounter a weird bug with the freshness column. If I delete a post in a topic the freshness column on the forum page display the date and author of the topic, not the last reply.

    Here are some screens :

    In the topic section (Which display the right information) : http://imgur.com/fHeSVrD
    in the forum section (Which display the wrong information) : http://imgur.com/Xlg7UQX

    I tried to do a repair through the forums tools in wp-admin but the bug is still here.

    If someone have an idea.

    Thank you,

    Jaeha

    Here is the hack we are using to make our custom filter work:

    <?php

    function likebtn_notifications_get_notifications_for_user($action, $item_id, $secondary_item_id, $total_items, $format = 'string')
    {
        global $wp_filter;

    	$return = '';

        if (count($m) == 3) {
    		// Do something here

            // We modify global wp_filter to call our bbPress wrapper function
            if (isset($wp_filter['bp_notifications_get_notifications_for_user'][10]['bbp_format_buddypress_notifications'])) {
                $wp_filter['bp_notifications_get_notifications_for_user'][10]['bbp_format_buddypress_notifications']['function'] = 'likebtn_bbp_format_buddypress_notifications';
            }

        	return $return;
        }

        return $action;
    }
    // bbPres has a bug:
    // https://bbpress.org/forums/topic/return-value-in-bbp_format_buddypress_notifications/
    // https://buddypress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/6669
    // Filter must be called before corresponding bbPress filter
    add_filter('bp_notifications_get_notifications_for_user', 'likebtn_notifications_get_notifications_for_user', 5, 5);

    // Wrapper for bbp_format_buddypress_notifications function as it is not returning $action
    function likebtn_bbp_format_buddypress_notifications($action, $item_id, $secondary_item_id, $total_items, $format = 'string')
    {
        $result = bbp_format_buddypress_notifications($action, $item_id, $secondary_item_id, $total_items, $format);
        if (!$result) {
            $result = $action;
        }
        return $result;
    }

    I look after a site that is purely used as a forum and news posts and have two small groups that have an exclusive membership, the groups are hidden and until recently they appeared on the groups list. They are now invisible to the members of said groups though the list shows that there are some, you just can’t see them.

    I am using the following:

    Theme: Quest (1.3.0)
    Plugins: Anti-Spam by CleanTalk (5.31), Buddypress (2.4.0), BBpress (2.5.8), FEEDZY RSS Feeds by b*web (2.6.1), Jetpack by WordPress.com (3.8.0), MailChimp Forms by MailMunch (2.1.3), Meta Slider (3.3.5), Sitewide newsletters (0.4)

    I have tested this with Twenty Fifteen (I do not have the others installed). It works with Twenty Fifteen (but looks pretty awful).

    I know that I can give people links to the forums, but it looks incredibly odd and is rather difficult for those who aren’t so savvy (or are looking for something quickly).

    Does anyone have any idea why this isn’t working?

    Hi,
    A trac ticket was already registered for that. The full fix should be included in the upcoming 2.6. If not the wordaround is also mentioned in the ticket.

    This seems to be a serious BuddyPress bug.
