So the plugin you linked to doesn’t really have anything to offer (other than stopping embeds in WP).

Did you try it? That plugin is specifically for those new WordPress post embeds.

THe setting I mentioned in the bbPress forum settings removes all embeds (youtube, flickr) including the WordPress post embeds.

You do not have to use CSS to hide the little post id number.

Did you try the disable embeds plugin? It may not do the forums specifically, just site wide.

Also, can you explain what you meant by “… or use a plugin like functionality. “.?

This plugin its called Functionality, its like a plugin that can hold custom php code snippets.

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/functionality/

Thanks for the code. unfortunately it doesn’t work for my website

Both of the code snippets I posted should show the forum search above a single topic, single forum, and in search results. Well unless your custom theme has custom bbPress templates with all the available hooks I am using in my code removed.

can you tell me if its actually worth adding a child theme, if the parent theme is an individually created one by a web design company?

I mean you do not have to.

    Hi Robkk,

Thanks for the code. unfortunately it doesn’t work for my website. Well, I have a vagrant set up on my computer with a copy website and i test everything there before i make real changes.
I made a child theme and a style.css file (this works as my wordpress site recognises it) and i made a functions.php file and added the code you gave me. The thing is, i tried some other code that exists on https://codex.bbpress.org/layout-and-functionality-examples-you-can-use/#23-show%c2%a0the-bbpress-forum-search-everywhere and they didnt work either.
    any suggestions?
    would greatly appreciate any help.
    thx
    Dan

I couldn’t get it to see anything I put in my child theme, because it is accessed through plugins, not themes. I know I’ll have to update the file again manually as soon as I update bbPress.

You don’t need to change anything in bbPress to do this type of thing, just put any template files in a child theme or custom theme package plugin (there is no info on this but this is possible too).

    https://codex.bbpress.org/themes/theme-compatibility/

Also, that plugin only allows you to add new fields, not display existing ones. Doesn’t it seem odd that you would be prompted to enter data in fields on user profile edit, but then not have any of them show on view? By default the user fields should be available to show, at least standard ones like description, website, and social media profiles.

This is the only plugin I can think of that might be easy for some users to display content. If you want contact Robin later in the support forum to see if he would add existing fields to it.

How are some people not caring about this? It just seems so fundamental to me.

There is a plan to add certain fields to the profile page in the future, mostly default existing fields for now.

You can disable threaded replies for now to fix the issue, there is currently an issue with some of the responsive styles and some markup that is broken somewhere while activating threaded replies.

    https://bbpress.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/2757

There is also a way to keep threaded replies and just changing your layout to a more mobile first layout, but threaded replies has some other issues that users might encounter like not having pagination.

There are a few WordPress themes that you can use.

    WP Knowledge Base

    Stargazer Colloquium

    Eighties

There are also other free themes that add functionality for bbPress here and there.

And there are a few good premium themes on themeforest.

Actually bbPress does not have a “thank you page” instead I think it mostly piggybacks off of the default WordPress registration process and this issue you are talking about seems sort of common, but I think the whole frontend forms bbPress provides are either incomplete functionality or functionality that has broken along the way through upgrades in WordPress or something.

You do not necessarily have to use the frontend forms anyway, as all your users can just the default WordPress registration forms. Or use another plugin for now for frontend forms like Theme My Login.

IF you ever need a more advanced solution than what Robin has provided, look into the MyCred plugin.

If you are talking about leveling up user role capabilities, there is no plugin that can do such a thing yet.

    Before Posting

    Yes these ^^

There is a plugin to disable across your whole site

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/disable-embeds/

We might add an option to the bbPress plugin to turn this off, or include this WordPress post oEMBED to the already present enable auto embed option.

In your post you said random images show up and some screen flicker? This makes it sound like a really bad bug, but thinking over it, is it just the icon images (share icon, WordPress logo, possibly a comment icon), and the post embed loading?

EDIT: Actually disabling auto-embed in your forums will also stop the WordPress post oEMBED feature.

I have found a rather nasty bug:

    Details:

If you right click on the (reply #number) in the top right of a topic reply, you can then click to copy link address.

If you then paste this address into a new reply form and submit, the result is a screwed up blockquote of the Topic name and some random graphics.

It appears to be conflict between bbpress and the WordPress 4.4 content embed feature.

On my local host installation it also causes screen flicker in a loop.

I discovered this when trying to look for a quote replies solution.

Any chance we can do something to block/stop/patch it.

    Kind Regards

    Max

    Hi,

    Yes there are.

It looks like when I update just the forum role for user, on my site it set it “blank” (empty) – there is no role and that is the reason why I don’t see the “Blocked” users.

On other side, when I update wordpress role, everything works fine.

    It is strange…

bbPress is tested with wordpress default themes. It maybe a conflict – you need to check plugins and themes

It could be a theme or plugin issue

    Plugins

Deactivate all but bbpress and see if this fixes. if it does, re-enable one at a time to see which is causing the error.

    Themes

If plugins don’t pinpoint the problem, as a test switch to a default theme such as twentyfifteen, and see if this fixes.

ok I think you need my private groups plugin which allows you to set up groups, and then give users access to different forums, and using topic permissions have different access to different forums

I’m having a problem with my Forum registration and page. After filling out the data it the page refreshes and takes me to the wordpress login page. Surely it should take to a page where it say, ‘thank you for registering, etc, instead of the wordpress login page. Please can someone advise me on this as I am getting really frustrated with it.

This plugin has a shortcode that lets you display recent topics by forum or forums

    https://wordpress.org/plugins/bbp-style-pack/

see dashboard>settings>bbp style pack>shortcodes for options

Most wordpress themes work fine with bbpress. There are plugins such as https://en-gb.wordpress.org/plugins/bbp-toolkit/ and https://wordpress.org/plugins/bbp-style-pack/ that will help integration and add features

When users try to reply on a thread on their mobile it very often happens that they just bumps to first post in thread without submit the post. I have experienced this myself. I then go back, and send again. Sometimes it takes 2,3 or 4 times before posting is successful.

    I use wordpress 4.5.3
    bbpress 2.5.9

Is there any tip on how to find the error?

I use this theme on mobile:
    GM Neo (Graphene)

    This app to mobile switch:
    Any Mobile Theme Switcher

I also have the following plugins for my bbpress:
    GD bbPress Tools
bbPress Go To First Unread Post
    bbPress Unread Posts v2

Hello everyone, I recently installed bbpress to my wordpress website and noticed that the forum search bar was not working at all. For example, if I search for a topic, only my blog posts show up and not any topics. I’m pretty sure that this is due to a problem with my theme because if I switch back to twenty sixteen, then the search bar works again. However, I don’t want to switch back to twenty sixteen for certain reasons. Does anyone know how to fix this issue then with the theme?

I’m using wordpress version 4.5.3, bbpress version 2.5.9, and my website is http://www.purposeshare.com/forums

    Thanks,
    David

It’s been a while since I tried it, I’ll have to re-attempt it in a couple of days when I have an opportunity to try it again.

    Cool

As I recall, it imported the users fine, and then it looked like it was doing the posts, but after, I want to say about 150 posts, it froze there, never indicated further imports. When I checked the database tables, it didn’t appear that it actually brought the content from Dizkus over to bbPress at all.

Ok, so it did something, thats a good sign in that the database name and password were correct.

If you’ve ever used Chrome/Firefox “inspect” debugger, you can right click and select “inspect” or (view the source code of the web page) and there is some extra debugging MySQL statements you will see there, if when testing you have issues take a look at the last query and include that MySQL code here when posting back, it will help determine what went wrong.

As to the localhost problem, I mirrored the Zikula site to my local WIn 10 machine, and then tried to import on a local WP/bbP site and it didn’t do anything. Seems like it just couldn’t find data.

If it can’t find any data it should thrown an error message to that affect, if you don’t select Dizkus from the dropdown menu on the importer screen and use the default AEF that can be one of the causes, another is that the database is not in the same database server as your WordPress install.

Did you import that database to your Win 10 machine or were you trying to connect to it remotely?

Is it possible to replace WordPress posts with forum topics to keep discussions at one place?
