    In reply to: bbPress 2.2.1

I test updated bbPress 2.2 (it does NOT say that it is 2.2.1) on my MAMP server, and it is now missing several of the Settings from 2.1.3 that I actually used.

“Theme Packages – Current Package” is gone, which I set to Twenty Ten (bbPress) on my sites, although then I use the ‘bbPress (Twenty Eleven)’ child theme from ServerPress.com as my active theme – which may negate any effect of this setting.

I don’t see the “Per RSS Page” settings any more, and I have “Akismet – Use Akismet” selected on the production site in 2.1.3; now those are gone in 2.2.

I did not see anything in the Changelog for 2.2 that led me to expect these changes.

I also have ‘Search bbPress 2.0’ ver 1.0 from ServerPress.com installed; I wonder if that will still work in 2.2.x???

After a bad week following an update from Wordfence 3.3.7 to 3.4.1 (just fixed in 3.4.4), I am in no hurry to update another major plugin on my site prematurely.

i am building a site using bbpress & s2member, but i am also using user role editor plugin to apply custom capabilities to s2 member roles, so far this has worked fine, but i have not updated this test site to bbpress 2.2 yet

ross, have you tried inspecting your s2 member roles with something like user role editor, members, or role scoper ? this should allow you to customize you roles w bbpress permissions as needed

also, is there a clear explanation anywhere about just what this new role system in bbpress 2.2 is and what it means for sites with custom capabilities ?

    Hello bbpress,

I updated to version 2.2 and I am getting the error. The line is

    948 endif; // class_exists check
    949 exists check

Is it missing something…like the comment tag or semicolon?

Thanks for the good works you guys do

    Hi Everybody, Guys !! ^_^
    Please, I have a question.
My Forums shows me this message:

The qTranslate Editor has disabled itself because it hasn't been tested with your WordPress version yet. This is done to prevent WordPress from malfunctioning. You can reenable it by clicking here (may cause data loss! Use at own risk!). To remove this message permanently, please update qTranslate to the corresponding version.

The point is that: Even if when I’ve installed the bbPress qTranslate was not updated, so this message was right … Now qTranslate it is updated, but by the way bbPress doesn’t seems to see the change and it doesn’t shows me forum-contents by language.

The 1.st link in the message (reenable qTranslate) doesn’t works …
What to do, please, if I want to build a multi-language Forum ??

    Another deal:
Why bbPress shows me this ugly editor ??

If I click on Visual then it is good, but the 1-st one is the defaul one …

    THANK YOU !!
    Pietro

Great news to hear about 2.2 and thanks for your support John. Unfortunately I’m working to a deadline, so I’m forced to use any temporary fix for now.

From notes mentioned in threads above I followed these directions and have been able to re-move the fatal error…

    – Stripped out the entire BBP_Twenty_Ten class in my child’s functions.php file
    – Temporarily disabled the plugins folder by renaming it ‘plugins~’
    – Reload the admin page to get back on the dashboard
    – Rename the plugins folder back to its original ‘plugins’
    – Re-enabled the updated bbPress version on the Plugins page
    – Re-save my Permalinks and Forum settings

Just got exactly the same issue whilst updating today. Fatal error: Class ‘BBP_Theme_Compat’ not found in …/wp-content/themes/***/functions.php on line 32

I had just updated to bbPress 2.1.3
    – Using WordPress 3.4.2
    – ‘toolbox‘ theme
    – a child theme which was a clone of bbPress 2.0 standard theme

    Line 32 of my functions.php reads if ( ! function_exists( 'toolbox_setup' ) )

I found the ForumConvertor. It says that version is not compatible with the newer WordPress 3.4.2 that I have. But I decided to try it anyways since you recommended it. I have no attachments or avatars, so I left those fields blank. Everything else was filled out. Then when I initiated conversion, it said Conversion failed. Conversion not support.Stumped. I guess I have to wait till this Forum Convertor is updated?

This particular error occurs when WP can’t unzip the .zip file. Check if you have enough space on disc or that you haven’t hit the quota. Also check if you have the permissions for doing such operation. Have you ever updated other WP plugin?

I wasn’t using jetpack, and the error occured after I updated bbpress to 2.1.3
I rerun a backup, where bbpress is 2.1.2 again and the issue is gone.
The insert media button within wordpress works again and the fancy editor shows all buttons normally.
No clue if the update really caused it not too fond to find out either haha.

I’m having the same problem, althought I thought it had something to do with my theme so I dismissed it. But I have exactly same problem, I cannot insert any media in posts or add a link to my posts and pages anymore as soon as I activate bbpress. Quite annoying I must say ^^ I have no clue how to fix it thought I’m afraid it happened after the last update from buddypress because before I updated everything was still working.

I’m using the bbpress WordPress plugin on one site. I want to move it to another site. I looked at the database thinking there would be some wp_bbPress tables or something but didn’t see any.

Is there a way to do this? It woudl be a move from one WordPress site to another, both using updated WordPress and bbPress plugins, with no forums or threads on the new site.

@jjj little suggestion, reduce the size of the avatar rendered here at bbpress.org/forums, content should take the center-stage i think! thanks!

    Hello!

I am having a problem with my site. I have had the bbPress plugin installed on my WordPress for some time now, but it has not been activated. I just kept it there, and updated it regularly, until I finished working on my theme. Well, that work is finished now. When I activated the bbPress plugin, the entire website doesn’t load (“View Page Source” reveals nothing).

I would like to delete bbPress from my database, but I have no idea how to do that. I just want to start over from scratch…

    Anybody? 🙂

I am new to bbpress and setting up a forum in my blog. I want the sharing buttons to not show in the forum’s name. I go to the edit forum page, uncheck the “Show sharing buttons.” but, when I update it, it ‘re-checks’. I am unable to uncheck them no matter how many times I do it.

Further, if i go to Appearance/Elbee Elgee settings (my theme)/bbpress I check “Disable Sidebar Widget Areas:” and/or “Disable Footer Widget Areas” and save changes. Once updated and saved, the boxes always remain unchecked.

I have been to setting/sharing checked and unchecked everything but it simply won’t take the changes I requiere. I would appreciate any help you can provide.

    Hello,

I am just wondering if this is how it suppose to work. I was testing the user’s page in bbpress and I update my bio and when I hitted the update profile button it seemed that it worked ok. Later on I was in my WordPress user profile when I noticed that most of my settings were reset to defaults. I shouldn’t updated my profile through bbPress? Or there is a bug?

    Thanks,

PS: I am using WP 3.4.2 and bbP 2.1.2

I just updated to the latest bbPress version from 2.0 and I don’t the new fancy editing elements in my forum.
I am currently using an edited version of the twentyten theme that I am using as a child theme. Do I need to update the theme in order to see the new fancy editing elements? How can I fix this problem? Thanks,

PS: I am also running WordPress 3.4.2

And if you’re using bbPress in conjunction with BuddyPress, the mentions will point to BP profiles instead?

Hi Pippin, great work on this plugin so far. Thank you. I read through the code and tested it out. The plugin works great, and I commend you for your hard work on this. I wanted to provide a bit of feedback in case you are planning any further revisions, just to weigh in with my 2c: 1) I realize you needed somewhere to hook the “mark as read/unread” link, and by default in bbp_theme_compat no action hook is provided in a topic header. Hooking it onto the subscribe link wedges it between subscribe/favorite and is overall a bit awkward for templating. I’m not sure what a better default solution would be, but personally I felt the need to unhook this and manually place the toggle button somewhere more appealing. 2) A standalone function to display a loop of unread topics would be great. show_unread_topics() is purpose built for the bbpress user profile, but under many circumstances users might want to call this list elsewhere (if we are using BuddyPress profiles for example). Personally I created a “View Unread Topics” page that functions similarly to the “Recent Topics” archive. Anyways, including a function for just the unread topics loop (with pagination) would be a nice addition for template flexibility purposes. 3) For a site with thousands of topics, is having that bulky a “_bbp_mar_read_ids” entry in meta a concern? 4) The plugin serves a nice function of allowing a user to track whether or not he/she has looked at topics which are posted. However, it seems to me that full “view unread posts” functionality would entail clearing resetting the “read” flag when the topic is updated with a new reply. What about saving each “read” ID to meta as: post_id?num_replies where num_replies is the number of replies to the topic when the user marked it as read. When a topic is called you can explode out how many replies it had when the user first marked it. If the topic now has more replies than when it was marked, you can override the “read” flag and reset it to unread. Probably not a very elegant solution, but I think what most users would be interested in is being able to generate a list of threads with unread content, not necessarily just unread topics. Anyways, thanks very much for your work on this. I’ll be keeping an eye on how this project develops. Andrew

    Hey,

I’m running Version 3.4.2 of WordPress, with Version 2.1.2 of bbPress.
When I’m logged into the site as a Forum Participant, I can see the forums and topics, but when I actually click on the topics to view the content (i.e. the actual topic post and replies), all that appears is “This topic contains 0 replies, has 1 voice, and was last updated by…” as well as the “Reply” form underneath that. The actual posts and replies don’t appear.

However, when I’m logged in as an administrator, I am able to see everything (it all functions normally).

Do you know why a normal forum user can’t see posts and replies? How can I go about fixing the issue?

    Any help would be appreciated!

    Cheers,
    Laura.
