Apologies @tesicg, I presumed you were using IIS because Windows 2008 Server R2 😉
Ignore the IIS suggestion I made, you’re using XAMPP so they would be useless.
For translations check your WordPress updates page for any available translation updates, both bbPress 2.5.x (the current release) and upcoming 2.6.x releases are 100% translated into Russian: https://translate.wordpress.org/locale/ru/default/wp-plugins/bbpress
There might have been a fix for “port conflicts” in the upcoming bbPress 2.6, could you try that and see if it is fixed please? https://bbpress.org/download/
If 2.6 doesn’t fix it could you add details on whats different between your 2008 Server and Windows 7 install, strange that XAMPP works on one and not the other
Hi @alexwilmac,
Are you trying to update bbPress translation? Because that’s all centrally managed, so better do it there. If you need any help with that, just leave me a message here.
Pascal.

Hey, sorry if it has been answered before…
The are some words that don’t seem to be translated in French like “at” or “by” in the forum main page.
Therefore i tried to translate them with loco translate, but the translation is written as 100% done, and I can’t find any correspondance in the translation file.
What can I do ?
Thanks a lot!

Hi everybody, first post here! 😉
I hope somebody can help me, since I’m having problems with the translation of a new bbPress installation… It’s kind of strange actually, because it seems to translate only part of the strings, but if I check my .mo & .po files they’re fully translated, just how it should be.
I’ve been using WordPress for years but it’s the first time I used bbPress as well, so I followed these instructions religiously.
(I actually only had to change the directory in which I put the .mo & .po files to wp-content/languages/plugins, since putting them in wp-content/languages/bbpress/ – I had to create this folder to try – like written in the documentation won’t work. After that I tried to put them in every other “logic” place that came to mind with no success)
Here are a couple of screenshot to let me show my “half translated/half not” situation:
EDIT: img’s won’t work so here are the links

I have the same issue, my custom translation doesn’t work.
As far as I understand the problem exist for a year already:

Hello,
Can somebody please tell me how translation of bbpress works?
What I did:
I installed WordPress and set my default language
I installed bbpress plugin
I installed Loco translate
I create the map languages/bbpress on ftp
I downloaded the .po and .mo and put in the map
But nothing is working! Can somebody help me please?
Hi, I have installed bbpress and uploaded the bbpress-es.mo and bbpress-es_US.po files in
wp-content> language> plugins
but it doesnt works.
I have added this line to wp-config.php
define (‘BBLANG’, ‘es_ES’);
But nothing was happened, all help is welcome ..!
Thank you..!
You shouldn’t need to do any of the above, setting your WordPress install to use German as the default language should automatically download bbPress’ translations.
p.s. If you’re using the method above for a different reason, uploading them to wp-content/languages/bbpress
instead of wp-content/languages/buddypress
would be the answer 😉
OK, Robin, thanks for your help.
Two plugins were generating the conflict:
1. Filtro de Traducción Transposh
Translation filter for WordPress, After enabling please set languages at the the options page Want to help? visit our development site at trac.transposh.org.
Versión 0.9.6 | Por Equipo Transposh
2. W3 Total Cache
The highest rated and most complete WordPress performance plugin. Dramatically improve the speed and user experience of your site. Add browser, page, object and database caching as well as minify and content delivery network (CDN) to WordPress.
Versión 0.9.5.4 | Por Frederick Townes
Now all is OK. But maybe it helps to know these two plugins to create some kind of solution.
Regards 🙏
Hi,
bbPress translation is centralized here: https://translate.wordpress.org/projects/wp-plugins/bbpress/stable/ru/default
If you want to propose a new translation so everybody in the world that uses it in Russian gets your update (when it gets approved), then you can do that using the above link.
If you only want to change it on your local installation, you can read the codex on https://codex.bbpress.org/getting-started/bbpress-in-your-language/
Goede middag Jos,
The translation is done centrally and changing it would change it for everybody in the (Dutch speaking) world. If you think it should be changed, feel free to join the #polyglots channel on the Dutch local slack that you can find on https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/handbook/about/teams/local-slacks/
If you want to change it only for your own website, I would just change the width adding some extra CSS like:
.bbp-login-form label {
width: 150px;
}
(you might need the !important to make it work)
Pascal.
Hi,
But you should not need to run anything from https://codex.bbpress.org/getting-started/bbpress-in-your-language/ . If you have a standard WordPress install, the language files are downloaded automatically.
How about other plugins that have translations available, do they work ? Like SEO or something ?
Hi,
I tried to start back from 0. I reinstalled wordpress 4.7.3, deleted loco translate, deleted and reinstalled bbpress. I then followed this guide : https://codex.bbpress.org/getting-started/bbpress-in-your-language/ to download and install a translation which is apparently 100% complete for my language. Still it’s not completely working. I verified in /wp-admin/update-core.php and I have no updates. You cannot blame loco translate this time as it’s not even installed anymore on my website. Also, I can know my wordpress language is correctly setup because some translation does work as you can see on the following image :
Please help me, this really seem like a bug with your plugin…
Thanks
One last thing: Check that there are no translation downloads waiting here: /wp-admin/update-core.php
Hi,
My language is already set to french and no translation have been downloaded… I am not using wpml but Loco Translate for updating my language files. I also can translate some of the string but not all so I know my translation setup is correct.
Thanks
@pcalexpc
If you switch your WordPress to Français in /wp-admin/options-general.php (Options > General), WordPress will download the French translation for bbPress automatically.
Pascal.
Hi, I am trying to translate the frontend section of my forum, but I can only translate parts of it. Here’s a screenshot :
As you can see, I can translate the top sentence, but I cannot translate the form part. I even tried to manually edit the php files without success (reverted to default files after).
I am using Loco Translate for editing my translations and my wordpress language is correctly set because I can translate some parts. I also can see the sentences in the Loco Editor but event after changing them, they do not change in the frontend.
I hope I have given enough informations.
Thanks
following
(newest WP, newest polylang, newest bbpress) – same issue, polylang string translations works fine and are displayed in frontend where used, but bbpress content (forums, posts, comments) are all language-neutral, so same content are displayed in every “polylang-language-site”.
Does bbpress support multi-language at all, or do we miss some setting/plugin?
Hi,
That’s something to be checked with the General Translation Editors ( https://make.wordpress.org/polyglots/teams/?locale=cs_CZ )
I will forward the link here to them.
Pascal.
Hi,
at wordpress translation page https://translate.wordpress.org/locale/cs/default/wp-plugins/bbpress
There is a LOT of waiting translations.
Could you please look at it and confirm them as ‘current’?
Thanks!

Hello, I am having great difficulty getting any widgets to appear in my Forums sidebar. I believe now that it relates to the page I have bbPress running on. After initially installing bbPress I later added a new page and added [bbp-forum-index] as directed to do in the documentation. However, when I’ve tried to use the Forums page id to exclude the Forums link from automatically appearing in the footer it did not work. Also I had to use (.bbpress) in my css to style the header of the page as .page-id- was not working.
My issue still occurs when tested using Twenty Seventeen.
I’m not satisfied with some of the translated words i bbpress (danish) – I have tried to change in / wp-content / languages / plugins / bbpress-da_DK.po
I have tried to change freshness:
#: includes/admin/forums.php:414 includes/admin/topics.php:638
#: templates/default/bbpress/loop-forums.php:22
#: templates/default/bbpress/loop-topics.php:22
msgid “Freshness”
msgstr “Seneste indlæg”
